MANRAZE – FEATURING PHIL COLLEN (DEF LEPPARD), PAUL COOK (THE SEX PISTOLS) & SIMON LAFFY (GIRL) RELEASE NEW EP – “I SURRENDER” – TODAY

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags hard rock albums 2013, manraze, manraze i surrender ep, metal odyssey, phil collen def leppard, rock albums 2013, rock music news on November 12, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Will Be Featured Guest On Rockline – November 18, 2013

________________________________

(Los Angeles) MANRAZE, the London-based rock band formed by iconic Def Leppard lead guitarist Phil Collen, along with punk rock forerunner Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) on drums and Simon Laffy, rockin’ bass player of Collen’s former glam-band, Girl, release their new EP, I Surrender available on iTunes today – November 12th. On November 18th MANRAZE will be the featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio show, ROCKLINE with host Bob Coburn. Fans can tune in at 8:30 pm PT/11:30 pm ET. Check rocklineradio.com for more details.

When not rocking together, the MANRAZE trio continues to keep busy. Collen holds down his ‘day-job’ as lead guitarist with Def Leppard, heading with the band into a Dublin studio in February to write and record new music. Collen is also working on his own blues album Delta Deep featuring soulstress Debbi Blackwell-Cook and is currently writing his auto-biography (Simon & Shuster/Atria) due out late 2014. Cook has been working with Edwyn Collins first on his 2013 album release Understated, and then touring with Collins playing live shows. Currently, Cook is also playing in Subway Sect with Vic Goddard, touring and recording a new album.

Laffy has taken his talents into another creative lane having authored two novels in his ‘off-time’, Red Sunrise and Seed of Satan. Both are historical fictions set around epic events of the 20th century and are in the process of being published.

It all started in 2004 when Phil Collen, after 20+ years as lead guitarist for Def Leppard, decided to express himself via another creative outlet. After a fateful conversation with Simon Laffy and a next day chance meeting with Paul Cook MANRAZE was formed and finally released their debut album SURREAL through Universal Records in the summer of 2008 to rave reviews.

In August 2011 the trio re-enetered the studio and released punkfunkrootsrock which featured the single, “Over My Dead Body.” In the spring of 2011 the MANRAZE single “I, Superbiker” was the theme song for the feature documentary of the same name. Directed by Mark Sloper, and released solely in the UK, the documentary is an in-depth expose’ into the merciless world of competitive speed bike racing and a look at the men who have dedicated their entire existence to this incredibly dangerous, adrenaline-fueled sport. MANRAZE’s single “Take On The World” featuring Debbi Blackwell-Cook was subsequently released in 2012 as a part of the soundtrack to Sloper’s sequel film “I, Superbiker: The Showdown” which chronicled the rise of 2011 British superbike racing champion Tommy Hill.

LORD MANTIS – Chicago Deviants Recording Profound Lore Debut

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags lord mantis, lord mantis new album 2014, Metal, metal albums 2014, metal odyssey on November 12, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

The deviant sect known to their cult fanbase as LORD MANTIS is currently decimating the innards of hometown Chicago-based Electrical Audio and Soma Studios, harnessing the astonishing madness that is to be the group’s third full-length release.

LORD MANTIS is working in conjunction with Sanford Parker (Twilight, Voivod, Eyehategod, Samothrace), the engineer also responsible for recording the band’s previous two albums. While the newest composition has yet to bear a title, the third installment of the band’s torrid lineage will be their first release for the eclectic Profound Lore Records — following their 2009 Seventh Rule Recordings debut, Spawning The Nephilim, and subsequent 2012 full-length, Pervertor, released by Candlelight Records — and promises to be their most disturbing works yet, crawling forth from some of the darkest recesses of the human psyche.

Having revamped their lineup since their previous releases, LORD MANTIS has inducted Ken Sorceron into its ranks on guitar on this outing, the lineup rounded out by the three founding members, bassist/vocalist Charlie Fell, guitarist/vocalist Andrew Markuszewski and drummer Bill Bumgardner. Additionally, Indian guitarist/vocalist Dylan O’Toole will contribute additional vocals on several of the tracks.

Stated Fell this week in a brief recess between the punishing sessions on these new works: “This record is more serious and dark than our other stuff. We have all been through a lot of really fucked-up shit in recent years, and that’s all showing through in these sessions. We left behind anything slightly sci-fi, nightmarish or casually antagonistic, musically and visually; this time it’s all brutally realistic and ultimately much, much darker.”

More on the pending album will be available in the coming weeks as the sessions conclude, and LORD MANTIS prepares to pillage the populous with their new odes of torment with a Spring 2014 release date being confirmed.

THE BANG GANG – As with any Metal genre, the Hair Metal scene had many a talented band that were never signed to a major label and become a household name. The Bang Gang from the USA is one such band and their 1990 studio album, Love Sells (Sinclair Records), is a genuine need for any Hair or Sleaze Metal aficionado!

This first album from The Bang Gang is now realistically rare. Very rare! How rare? Try the $50.00 to $69.00 (U.S.) range for both new and used CD’s of Love Sells, currently listed on Amazon.com! That’s rare.

The opening track on Love Sells, Pedal To The Metal, is, in my opinion, the greatest (if not) one of the greatest Hair Metal songs of all-time! Listen to Pedal To The Metal for yourself below and decide for yourself… cause…

WARFATHER – Death Metal Horde Fronted By Ex-Morbid Angel Frontman Steve Tucker, Confirms Debut Full-Length Details

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Death Metal, death metal bands, metal albums 2014, metal odyssey, steve tucker, warfather on November 10, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

After months of secrecy spent in the crypts finalizing the details on their debut recordings, today Death Metal horde, WARFATHER, finally declares their battle plans.

The new full-time project fronted by ex-Morbid Angel bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker, WARFATHER was initially announced in mid-2012, but has remained otherwise virtually a mystery until now. As the finishing touches are currently being handled on their debut album, now confirmed to bear the title, Orchestrating The Apocalypse, this band sees Tucker back to fronting a Death Metal outfit after over a decade since his departure from Morbid Angel and over two years since his participation as a vocalist and writer in the well-received Nader Sadek project.

On the impending attack, Tucker states, “I am stoked about WARFATHER and our first album! WARFATHER is more than just a metal band; it is a belief system and a meeting of the minds, the ones that can see what is truly happening in the times we are living in. Orchestrating The Apocalypse is a warning to the eyes that choose to be blind, and a call to arms to the minds that do feel the coming changes. It is pure blackened, apocalyptic Death Metal. Fuck religion, fuck the government! This is their apocalypse. Our time is NOW!”

Orchestrating The Apocalypse brutalizes in a relentless style that builds on the work laid on the three Tucker-fronted Morbid Angel albums – Formulas Fatal To The Flesh, Gateways To Annihilation and Heretic – resounding with over forty minutes of pure American Death Metal. WARFATHER delivers an intense, debilitating performance that should no doubt please fans of Morbid Angel, Nile, and Behemoth, while also sporadically infusing unique, even bizarre atmospheric elements, elevating the album to a cutting-edge status.

The album was recorded and mixed at Cincinnati-based TME studios by Steve Tucker and mastered by Maor Applebaum at Maor Applebaum Mastering and is now confirmed for release via Greyhaze Records on January 21, 2014 in North America, with a European release date to be announced in the coming weeks.

Be on the lookout for new music from Orchestrating The Apocalypse and more on WARFATHER in the coming days. For now take in the track listing and cover artwork by Ken Coleman below:

IMMORTAL BIRD – Chicago Blackened Death Thrash Troupe Announce Debut EP “Akrasia”

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags death thrash, immortal bird, immortal bird akrasia, metal albums 2013, metal odyssey, rae amitay, Thrash Metal on November 9, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Immortal Bird - Akrasia - promo cover pic - 2013

Chicago Blackened Death Thrash troupe, IMMORTAL BIRD, are pleased to announce the release of their debut EP. Titled Akrasia, the abrasive manifestation of audio filth was recorded at Lo-Tech Laboratories this past summer by unsung Windy City sound sorcerer Jeff Ziolo, mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High On Fire, Skeletonwitch) at Godcity Studio, mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails, All Pigs Must Die) at Audiosiege and delivers four scathingly visceral tracks of torment. Led by the diseased vocal oscillations of drummer/front woman Rae Amitay, IMMORTAL BIRD is at once celestial and deadly.

Comments Amitay of the offering:“‘Akrasia’ is the state of acting against one’s better judgment, or weakness of will. The EP is centered around this concept, and the tracks serve to explore feelings of rage, resentment, and anguish that have resulted from ‘akratic’ behavior — mostly my own. The riffs, lyrics, and overall tone are meant to reflect both intensely caustic anger and moments of poignant self-realization. Writing and recording this EP was initially intended to be a cathartic and one-time experience, signifying the beginning and the end of IMMORTAL BIRD, but after collaborating with my bandmates and performing live, I’ve realized that this is a project that will press onward both in the studio and on the road. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to work with Kurt Ballou and Brad Boatright, as they’re complete commanders of their craft. This music could not have been placed in better hands, and that is an amazing feeling.”

Akrasia – Track Listing:

1. Spitting Teeth
2. Ashen Scabland
3. Akratic Seminar
4. The Pseudoscientist

IMMORTAL BIRD took its perverted form when drummer Rae Amitay (Thrawsunblat) yearned to step out from behind the confines of her drum kit, write some riffs and scream. With those dreams in tow, she enlisted the help of longtime friend/guitarist Evan Berry (Wilderun, Replacire) and bassist John Picillo. With Amitay opting to handle the mic onstage (while tackling drums and vocals on their albums), Garry Naples (Novembers Doom, Kastasyde, Without Waves) was recruited to take on all live drumming duties.

IMMORTAL BIRD Personnel:

Rae Amitay – Drums, Vocals, Lyrics
Evan Berry – Guitars, Backing Vocals
John Picillo – Bass

Akrasia is set for release via Closed Casket Recordings on December 3rd. Teaser tracks and live rituals to be announced in the days to come. Stay tuned.

KAYSER – Swedish Metal Band Signs With Listenable Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags kayser, kayser read your enemy, Metal, metal albums 2014, Metal News, metal odyssey, thrash metal bands on November 9, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Swedish Thrash purists KAYSER have just signed a long-term deal with Listenable Records. KAYSER has just completed work on their Listenable debut, entitled Read Your Enemy. The album is set for release in early 2014. The band is currently working with Sinemax Productions on a video for as-of-yet-unnamed track. More details to come.

KAYSER saw the first ray of light in early June 2004 when Spice (ex Spiritual Beggars), Mattias Svensson (also The Defaced), Bob Ruben (ex The Mushroom River Band) and Fredrik Finnander decided to join forces to create a pure Metal band. The band’s sound is fully immersed in true original Heavy/Thrash Metal genre with emphasis on the muscular songwriting : hammering blistering and catchy riffs one after another, delivering the goods through scorching witty arrangements with fluid virtuosity. Focus always lies on the song, easily identifiable through the supreme vocals by Spice, though the emotional and musical expressions stretch from heavy introvert pounding to pure hate driven ferocity.

“No boundaries and no limits… and that goes for everything,” the members stated initially to set the aim straight. As for comparisons, it might be best described as a mutation of Black Sabbath/Megadeth/Slayer with dips from different good bowls of Classic and Modern Metal. Popular for their incendiary shows, KAYSER enforces the pillars of metal with absolute authority. KAYSER became a much talked about live act among the Metal fans, rampaging cities across Europe with bands like VOLBEAT and more.

The acclaimed Reverence To Stone was released in July of 2012 via 20 Buck Spin, the label responsible for unveiling the band to the masses on the masterful 2008 debut SAMOTHRACE album, Life’s Trade. Through two lumbering, expansive tracks, the band explores more cavernous realms of thunderous tone hand-in-hand with even more beautiful and organic elements than ever on Reverence To Stone, all culminating in an incredibly real-sounding, psychedelic doom metal that continues to prove SAMOTHRACE as one of the top bands of the genre.

Since the LP’s triumphant release, the band has trekked across the US regionally several times and also ventured across all of Europe on their debut tour of the continent, and as they continue to book more dates this Autumn, continue their most intense touring cycle in the band’s entire lineage.

REPTILIAN DEATH “The Dawn Of Consummation And Emergence” = Imperative Death Metal!

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Death Metal, death metal albums 2013, death metal bands, Metal, metal albums 2013, metal odyssey on November 8, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

REPTILIAN DEATH – The Demonstealer (drums, guitars & bass) is the Metal mastermind behind the sheer evil that lurks within the Death Metal attack of REPTILIAN DEATH, while fronted by the sinister Vinay Venkatesh. Honestly, The Dawn Of Consummation And Emergence came upon me this year like an unexpected high from the Metal Gods of Center Earth! I had no idea about the existence of such a dark and venomous Death Metal advocate, such as Demonstealer. Now I do know and I’m a better night dweller for it.

If you think the album cover art screams bloody-cruel Death Metal nightmares from Hell… wait till you listen to this album! Yes, this is a substantial case where one can judge an album by its cover for the better. REPTILIAN DEATH have created one of the best Death Metal albums I’ve had the privilege to listen to during 2013; while standing up to being one of the best Death Metal albums I’ve ever heard. Sometimes the best Metal surprises of 2013 come in the most dark and wicked of packages.

Make NO Metal mistake, REPTILIAN DEATH are not taking any prisoners with their Death Metal. This amazing Death Metal band from Mumbai (also known as Bombay) India, justifiably has my Metal endorsement and I’m not letting go! Relentless, furious, (of course, evil) and brain stinging Death Metal is all I hear on The Dawn Of Consummation And Emergence. The quality of musicianship, horrifying and mean-spirited vocals, combined with a trueness to the genre, are the deadly attributes I hear on this album. No over-production and no rats-ass filler; just straight-up Death Metal the way I cherish it, both musically and lyrically. Metal be thy name.

Introducing The OBSCENE EXTREME WORLD TOUR For 2014!

Posted in Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags extreme metal news, Metal, metal festivals 2014, Metal News, metal odyssey, obscene extreme festival 2014, underground metal on November 7, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Since the birth of Obscene Extreme back in 1999 exactly 643 (next year will exceed the ‘magic’ number of 666) bands will have played the Obscene Extreme festival. These bands have come from almost every corner of the globe and have attracted hordes of diehard extreme music fans from all over Europe and well beyond its home base in the Czech Republic.

What brings the fans to Obscene Extreme is more than the wide selection of underground grindcore, crust, punk, death, thrash, hardcore and almost every underground style in between, but also the incredible atmosphere, the DIY ethic and the true spirit of community. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or who you are, everyone is the same when you’re in the pit!

“For almost 15 years people have traveled the globe, driven across continents and slept in airports and railway stations to make it to Obscene Extreme, and now Obscene Extreme is making the same effort to come to you once again!!!” states OEF organiser Curby.

“After a really insane OEF World Tour in 2013 with festivals in Mexico, Indonesia and Australia we can say, we will never give up and we are back to do it once again in 2014!!! With the OEF Club World Tour 2014 we are rolling into Japan, Australia and the USA like the United Nations of Grind.”

Check more info on OEF websites and see you soon!!!

5 Reasons The Obscene Extreme World Tour Is Going To Blow Your Mind!

1. Truly underground – Obscene Extreme is one of the few truly underground festivals to unite big, genre-defining bands, and small, cult bands.

2. Vegan-friendly – Whatever you do or don’t do, believe or practice, you’re welcome at Obscene Extreme.

3. Fair ticket price. No massive booking agent or energy drink mega-festival bullshit. Obscene Extreme is affordable for everyone.

4. No shitty rules, no shitty security – Stage diving, stage invasions and more, all welcome. Obscene Extreme treats you like people and doesn’t stop you having fun.

5. Grindcore carnival – Wear a gas mask, dress as a goregrind banana. Obscene Extreme is more than a festival – it’s a party!

Welcome to the Obscene Extreme family!!!

SKELETONWITCH – “Serpents Unleashed” Debuts At #62 On Billboard’s Top 200; Album Also Cracks Top 10 On Independent, Hard Rock And Vinyl Album Charts

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags blackened metal, extreme metal bands, Metal, metal albums 2013, metal odyssey, serpents unleashed, skeletonwitch, thrash metal bands on November 6, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

The critically adored new SKELETONWITCH offering, Serpents Unleashed, debuted on this week’s Billboard 200 at #62, marking the highest chart position of the band’s career! The record’s first-week sales marked a 68% jump from those of its 2011 predecessor, Forever Abomination.

Additionally, Serpents Unleashed debuted at #5 on this week’s Vinyl Albums chart, #7 on the Hard Rock Albums chart, #10 on the Independent Albums chart, #17 on the Internet Albums chart and #20 on the Rock Albums chart. Serpents Unleashed also debuted on the Top Current Albums chart at #87 in Canada, where the album reached #11 on the Hard Music chart as well.

Formed in Ohio a decade ago, SKELETONWITCH has received considerable acclaim for its trademark “blackened metal,” which Metal Hammer calls, “a potent brew of everything that makes metal so brilliant, vital and special.” The group’s relentless work ethic — personified by a 63-concerts-in-65-days test of endurance last year — is second to none in the genre, and true to form, the band is currently in the midst of an extensive North American tour with The Black Dahlia Murder. That tour will be followed by a US trek in early 2014 alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. International tour dates will be announced shortly.

Recorded earlier this year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High On Fire), Serpents Unleashedfeatures artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak), who also designed the memorable cover of the group’s 2007 breakthrough Beyond The Permafrost. Subsequent releases Breathing The Fire (2009) and Forever Abomination (2011) — both of which cracked the Billboard Top 200 — cemented the group’s reputation as one of metal’s most important acts, and tours with the likes of Danzig, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Cannibal Corpse and a slot on Ozzfest helped to cultivate one of the genre’s most passionate fanbases.

PRIMAL FEAR – To Start The Metallic New Year With A Bang! “Delivering The Black” – The New Album – Out On Frontiers Records In January!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal music, Music, Power Metal, rock music, rock music news with tags Metal, metal albums 2014, metal odyssey, Power Metal, power metal bands, primal fear, primal fear delivering the black on November 6, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of PRIMAL FEAR’s new album “Delivering the Black” on January 24th in Europe and January 28th in North America.

_____________________________________________________

PRIMAL FEAR – On the heels of the general consensus met by the previous studio album “Unbreakable” which was the band’s highest chart entry in Germany at Position #31, charting in 7 other countries, PRIMAL FEAR are only getting better with time and metal fans around the world are acknowledging this.

After some very intense songwriting sessions and pre-production schedule, the band started to record the new album, “Delivering The Black” in summer 2013 at the House of Music studios in Germany, with producer Mat Sinner and engineer Achim Koehler. The idea was to create the most powerful PRIMAL FEAR album ever! The band then moved to Denmark in September to finish the album with acclaimed producer/engineer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Pretty Maids, Amaranthe) handling the mix.

“Delivering The Black” combines the strongest Primal Fear moments ever, with a well-balanced typical PRIMAL FEAR trademark riff-vibe, crushing songs and some very ambitious musical journeys. The centerpiece of the album is the two epic tracks “When Death Comes Knocking” and the 10 minute opus “One Night In December”, spiced with big orchestral arrangements and complex sound designs.

Classic and ultra-fresh PRIMAL FEAR riff-rockers like the title track, the album opener “King For A Day” or the groove monsters “Alive And On Fire” and “Road To Asylum” hit the bulls-eye just like the untamed speed killer “Rebel Faction”. The outstanding ballad “Born With A Broken Heart” shows a new side of PRIMAL FEAR with an acoustic guitar vibe and the addition of Liv Kristine (Leaves’ Eyes) on backing vocals.

Singer Ralf Scheepers says: “We worked hard to create our best album ever. I already felt the vibe during the pre-production, that we were working on something very special this time! And now the result is just an amazing Metal album, I’m extremely proud of!”

Producer/bassist Mat Sinner adds: “The songs, the production, the sound – this album is a very special one for me and my career. In my view, everybody in the band just did a killer job and Jacob was fantastic choice to mix the album!”

The release of “Delivering the Black” will be anticipated by the release of the digital only single / video “When Death Comes Knocking” on December 2nd – a song which sets the pace for the outstanding quality of production and songwriting displayed on the full album. You can enjoy a sample of the track below:

“Delivering The Black” will be available in regular cd edition, deluxe edition with 2 bonus tracks and – in cooperation with Soulfood Music – vinyl edition and DVD and limited edition (666 copies only!) of a Super-de-luxe version including a metallic eagle!

“Delivering The Black” Track Listing Includes:

EASTERN SPELL – Underground Doom Metal has raised its calamitous head in Southern Maine. An underground Doom Metal sound that when played at maximum volume, the vibrations are equated to a one ton sledgehammer, as it’s being struck down upon a bolstered granite ledge; crippling and destroying all other sounds around it for miles. EASTERN SPELL is this underground Doom Metal troupe that makes such sonic Sludge enormity, as they, along with their new single, Entraced, are:

Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

At 11:10 long, Entraced is a Doom Metal epic, one that is capable of registering an impressive reading on the Richter magnitude scale. Seriously, no shit. This Doomed offering from EASTERN SPELL is an apocalyptic death march to a bottomless pit of hellfire; an evil hole of death that echoes the tormented souls of bubble-gum Pop fans, the sorry ones who’ve been eliminated from existence.

Listen And Watch For Yourself, Below, An Exercise In Underground Doom Metal Dominance! Metal Be Thy Name.

EASTERN SPELL:

Dan Rich – Guitar

Angus McFarland – Guitar

Eric Rancourt – Drums
