SPEED\KILL/HATE – Out for Blood: Brutally Intense Thrash Metal… A MUST HAVE Album For 2011!

SPEED\KILL/HATE – Stop right there. Before you read on any further, please understand that this album review is about an East Coast Thrash band that plays REAL Thrash Metal… bludgeoning bass and deathly fast on all points with pissed off vocals… just like Thrash was meant to sound like. Death Thrash. Hardcore Thrash. Thrash. Thrash up your ass. Whatever you want to call it… this is the stuff your momma cursed about and warned you not to go near.

Alas, your safe here at Metal Odyssey… so sit back, put on your Metal seat belts and read on about one of this years most amazing, brutalizing and spine snapping Thrash Metal albums: Out for Blood created by SPEED\KILL/HATE. This band is a force, founded by guitarist Dave Linsk of Thrash Metal Legends: OVERKILL. Not to be confused as a “side project”, Dave Linsk and his band of Thrash brothers are playing for keeps… and Out for Blood is audio proof. This new album is the follow up to their 2006 debut: Acts of Insanity.

Metal be thy name does this Thrash band devastate with their crushingly heavy and mind blasting speed. I put this CD of SPEED\KILL/HATE atop a stack of other CD’s and the entire stack below Out for Blood disintegrated into dust. Seriously, Out for Blood is a Thrash Metal album that you MUST BUY, whether your a casual fan or the most Hardcore follower of Thrash and Extreme Metal. The Thrash hurtin’ is for F’n certain throughout this entire album of 10 songs. After my very first listen, I was wishing this band was around for the last 25+ years with a vast catalog of albums.

Dave Linsk’s violent guitar riffs, leads and solos are unmistakably dominant, his Overkill signature and tone inevitably will follow him wherever he goes… and that’s something he should be proud of. With that said, SPEED\KILL/HATE is no carbon copy of the iconic Overkill machine. This is a Thrash Metal band that carries their uniqueness to the highest of Thrash Extreme.

Bob Barnak is an Extreme Thrash force to reckon with. Bob’s vocals are a lethal weapon and can easily tear your Metal soul apart. Evil Thrash. Darkened Thrash. Metal be thy name, I’m using every Thrash Metal adjective that can possibly exist about SPEED\KILL/HATE. This band kick’s undisputed Thrash Metal ass.

Album opener No Remorse is the knockout Thrashing punch… and if you think this song is heavy and fast, Written in Blood and Behind the Mask are superiorly intense, superiorly Hardcore Thrash, overloaded with maniacally fast double bass and searing guitar. Mark of Judas is the face melter on this album, undeniably a Thrash Metal song that thrives on it’s all encompassing Extreme force and total domination of all that exists around it. Brotherhood of Arms is yet another blistering Thrash attack of profound strength, a strength in this band’s jaw dropping Extreme musicianship.

The consistence of Thrash brutality that SPEED\KILL/HATE dish out on Out for Blood is incredibly impressive and bizarrely astounding to my ears. Once the album closer of The Cleansing finishes, I’m realizing I’ve been Metal schooled again. Bob Barnak has ripped apart my eardrums with his unearthly vocals and I’ve fallen down to one knee… with my hands raised in the air begging for Metal mercy… I cry out to you all: SPEED\KILL/HATE has kicked my Metal ass into oblivion! Please, pl, pl, please… can I have more sirs?

Melodic Death Metal titans, AMON AMARTH, today kick off their long-anticipated near two-week run of live dates in support of their latest studio offering: Surtur Rising. Dubbed “An Evening With AMON AMARTH,” this special tour will find the band performing two sets each night with no openers. The first set will feature the band performing Surtur Rising in its entirety while the second will boast a collection of songs from previous releases. The Viking-inspired mayhem will begin tonight in Chicago at The Bottom Lounge.

Released on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, Surtur Rising has topped the charts both domestically and abroad and continues to reap praise from critics and fans around the globe for its sheer debilitating heaviness. Said Decibel of the offering: “…it’s a pleasure to learn one of metal’s most consistent bands remains as indefatigable as ever.” L.A. AMON AMARTH: “Surtur Rising” First-Week Album Sales Revealed

Surtur Rising, the latest studio album from Swedish Death Metal tyrants, AMON AMARTH sold approximately 15,000 copies in the United States landing the band the #34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums, #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums and #10 on the Indy/Small Chain Core Store Chart. The record entered Austria’s Top 40 Chart at #12 and Switzerland’s Top 100 at #20. In Germany, Surtur Rising sold over 14,000 units, entered the Top 100 Chart at #8 and is in the official Media Mark Charts at #14 in its second week.

THE HAUNTED – Releasing on March 29th, 2011, via Century Media Records, is the seventh studio album, Unseen, from Sweden’s very own… The Haunted. I’m looking forward to getting my ears into this new album from The Haunted. While earlier reviews on Unseen have not been very positive or mixed, the experimental and detoured direction of the Metal that The Haunted have taken seems to have alienated some. From what has been written thus far from other reviews I’ve read, a Sludge Metal sound with many clean vocal moments from Peter Dolving are heard on Unseen.

I’ll keep an “open Metal mind” and deliver a review for Unseen in the near future. If you’ve never checked out any album from The Haunted, you must… this is a Metal band that goes back to 1996 with their debut/self titled album releasing in 1998.

My “all-time” favorite song from The Haunted is The Cynic, from their fifth studio album released back in 2006 – The Dead Eye. Jonas Björler on bass just makes The Cynic sound so melancholy and creepy… it’s right up my Metal alley. Metal truth be told, The Dead Eye is Heavy stuff, I recommend The Dead Eye to all Metal fans across the globe. Peter Dolving on vocals can sing as vicious as any in the world of Metal, while giving way to those tempered down moments when the song dictates. Another Metal truth be told, I’ve never met an album from The Haunted that I didn’t like.

This will be the seventh studio album released by BTBAM and their first on Metal Blade Records.

Currently, as of March 26th, 2011, a brand new track (Specular Reflection) from The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues is streaming right here: Between The Buried And Me – myspace music and here: METAL BLADE RECORDS. This new BTBAM song is worth every Metal micro-second of listening to and absorbing!

Specular Reflection clocks in at 11:21 and is progressively enriched with all things great about BTBAM. The piano key intro accompanied with orchestration and chorus, only leads me into the mind blowing, Extreme Metal journey that this ultra-talented band is so vastly known for creating. BTBAM fans won’t be disappointed while new fans shall be mesmerized and pulled into the Progressive and Extreme circle of sound that they’ll hear from Specular Reflection. Without a Metal doubt, I’m buying this new BTBAM album.

I have listened to this new song called Specular Reflection many, many, times now and I’m going to continue listening… and listening. I’ve always felt that Between The Buried And Me have been slightly ahead of their Metal time, now I feel they have arrived at being labeled “a Metal measuring stick” for their sub-genre. Today, popular Horror site Bloody Disgusting streams AMON AMARTH’s long-anticipated full-length, Surtur Rising, in its entirety! Scheduled for North American release via Metal Blade on March 29, 2011, the record, which was voted among Decibel Magazine’s most anticipated albums of 2011, marks the eighth studio offering from the melodic death metal tyrants. Dutch Death Metal all-stars, Hail of Bullets, will be making a U.S. appearance here as well and they will certainly set forth their old school Death Metal proficiency upon the masses.

The legendary Voivod looks to add some potent Thrash with their progressive extremity. Thrash Metal warriors Nuclear Assault are back! Thrash Metal has their pioneering flag bearers at this Death Fest IX without argument. GHOST has been stirring up quite the Metal buzz the last several months, they should fit right in with this Death Metal party just fine. Their brand of old school, Classic Metal with their identities unknown, will only recruit more fans at this amazing event to the dark and evil gospel according to GHOST!

As the country of Japan has suffered tremendously from the recent earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear reactor problems, we have all been watching in horror and feeling for the people of Japan. Some have been hit on a more personal level, Hemoptysis vocalist/guitarist Masaki Murashita is a native of Japan and has issued the following comment:

“I first want to thank our fans for the overwhelming support they have shown me in the last few days since my home country of Japan was hit by devastating earthquakes and a tsunami.
