Wanna See My JANI LANE Autographed Trading Card? It’s Really Cool…

That’s it at the top! That’s my Jani Lane autographed trading card and it’s certified authentic (see photo below). This unbelievable piece of Rock ‘N’ Roll history was seeded into packs of Upper Deck Spectrum Of Stars trading cards, which were initially sold around 2008; that’s the date printed on the back of this card, anyways. I bought this Jani Lane gem a couple of years before he passed away. A sports card dealer in Allentown, Pennsylvania had this card for sale and was asking $10 for it; I offered $8 instead and the dealer accepted. Whoa! Two other of these autographed trading cards that I own are: Miljenko Matijevic (Steelheart vocalist) and Don Dokken. Whoa, again!
To this day, I am very saddened that Jani Lane could not find the strength to battle his addictions. Jani Lane was a bona fide vocal and songwriting talent; he was a huge reason as to why Warrant became so successful, back in the day. Jani Lane also released a solo album back in 2003 titled: Back Down To One.
In 2008, Jani Lane’s (supergroup) band, Saints Of The Underground, released their debut studio album: Love The Sin, Hate The Sinner. I don’t own Jani’s solo album; yet I do own his S.O.T.U. release and it’s pretty damn good. Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of AMERICAN TRASH, the hotly anticipated new album featuring Rock & Roll veterans Jean BEAUVOIR and Micki FREE, on June 3rd in Europe and June 7th in North America.
Best known as the driving force behind the legendary Crown of Thorns self-titled debut album in 1994, Jean Beauvoir and Micki Free’s collective credits read like a “who’s-who” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with a list of collaborations that includes the likes of the Ramones, KISS, Debbie Harry, Pretenders, John Waite, Lionel Richie, *NSYNC, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Bill Wyman, Carlos Santana and Prince to name but a few.
The duo both coincidentally moved back to LA in 2003 and re-connected. They discussed joining forces again for a new project and after a few shows in Europe in 2013, a deal with Frontiers was inked for a brand new album to be recorded in 2014.
The result is American Trash, an album that shaped up as “the continuation of the BEAUVOIR FREE sound as the writing team for the Crown of Thorns debut,” explains Jean Beauvoir. “When we write together there really is this magic. We know we want killer guitar riffs and major melodic chorus… and this is what turns out in our songs, in Beauvoir Free style.”

SKID ROW And Johnny Solinger Split – Tony Harnell Announced As New Lead Singer

New York, NY – After 14 years of touring and 4 releases, SKID ROW has released singer Johnny Solinger.
Founding member Snake Sabo said, “We had a lot of great times together and created a lot of great music. We wish him nothing but the best.”
“Sometimes things just end. People go in different directions and grow apart and you have to make a decision. He will always be our brother” adds co-founder Rachel Bolan.
The vacancy for a new front man has been filled by powerhouse vocalist Tony Harnell. This news comes hot of the heels of his departure from Norway based band, TNT. “Tony’s experience, power and undeniable range made our decision an easy one” commented guitarist Scotti Hill. Drummer Rob Hammersmith added, “I believe this will be a great year for SKID ROW. I’m looking forward for things to come.”
When asked about joining forces with SKID ROW Harnell said, “I’m so excited and honored to be a part of such a great band with an amazing legacy and legions of faithful fans! The guys and I have known each other for many years and this is such a natural fit. I look forward to getting out there and playing live together and being a part of making new music and creating our future together. It’s time to rock!”
The band will head into the studio to record the third chapter of the United World Rebellion trilogy this summer. They will also hit the road for another world tour in support.

On This Day In METAL History – March 28th… From RUSH To KISS

On March 28th, 1973 – The super-duper legendary Led Zeppelin released their fifth studio album: Houses Of The Holy. This studio album features such song classics as: The Ocean, No Quarter, The Rain Song, Dancing Days and The Song Remains The Same.
On this day in 1981 – RUSH peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, with their eighth studio album Moving Pictures. This album spent three consecutive weeks at #3. Moving Pictures has since become a multi-platinum selling album for RUSH, in the United States alone. Yeah!
On March 28th, 1982 – The mighty SCORPIONS performed at Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Bolzano, Italy. This was one of numerous dates on their Blackout tour. Blackout, the eighth studio album from SCORPIONS, was released the very next day, on March 29th, 1982. Whoa, man!
On this day in 1995 – SKID ROW releases their third studio album: Subhuman Race.
On March 28th, 2005 – At London’s Brixton Academy, Queen began their first tour with vocalist Paul Rodgers of Free, Bad Company and The Firm fame. Rest in peace, Freddie Mercury.

Frontiers Music Srl is delighted to announce the signing of US Hard Rock legends STARZ who will release a new album in the second half of 2015!
Although not as commercial successful and well-known as a lot of their peers, STARZ has proven to be a hugely influential band for those musicians who were aware of them. Several massively successful U.S. artists, like Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Poison, Twisted Sister and Motley Crue cite STARZ as a primary influence. Magazines like Kerrang! and Hit Parader have included STARZ albums on lists of the most important heavy metal albums of all-time!
All together STARZ recorded four studio albums in the second half of the 70’s: “Starz”, “Violation”, “Attention Shoppers” and “Coliseum Rock” and gathered critical acclaim with their ability to mesh the smooth with the hard. “We loved pop melodies,” admits guitarist Richie Ranno, “and we also loved heavy guitars. We liked to combine hooks with a harder edge. Our singer Michael Lee Smith had a great sense of melody. In the course of four albums, we only used orchestrations or keyboards once, preferring to mix heavy rock productions with melodic overtones.”
STARZ are now returning with a lineup featuring original members Richie Ranno on guitars, Michael Lee Smith on vocals, Joe X Dube on drums and new faces George DiAna on bass and Alex Kane on guitar.
“We are absolutely psyched to be writing and recording an album of new STARZ songs for the Frontiers Label. We’re really excited about the new songs we’ve come up with – SUBWAY TERROR 2015 – here we come! Our sincere thanks go out to the staff of Frontiers Records for giving us this opportunity,” says Ranno.
STARZ appeared live in Europe at the HRH Festival in Wales, on March 13th.

Supergroup Pink Velvet Krush originate from Long Island, New York and they released a marvelous EP of five songs in the latter part of 2014, via HighVolMusic. If this EP from Pink Velvet Krush, F.S.O.A., is an indication of what’s to come from them, then I am holding my spot as first in line! Everything about this EP is BIG sonically and makes me feel freaking amazingly great!

I cannot help hearing the passion that Pink Velvet Krush has towards their own music and the Rock ‘N’ Roll legends that have influenced them. This band is so grand to listen to on this E.P. that it’s downright stunning. Make no mistake, Pink Velvet Krush are an original group and are/would be an asset to any open-air festival of Hard Rock and/or Metal. Pink Velvet Krush ROCK so damn fine that Mötley Crüe, Judas Priest, Def Leppard and KISS should be knocking down PVK’s door to be their opening band. March 5, 2015, ATLANTA – Royal Thunder, the Atlanta-based outfit helmed by Mlny Parsonz and Josh Weaver, share Crooked Doors’ album opener, “Time Machine,” via NPR:

“You can’t go back,” says Parsonz of the song’s message. “There is no such thing as a time machine. Live for now and learn forever. Beware the black streak that resides within each one of us. Relax, it’s just livin’.”
The band gave fans an early listen to music from Crooked Doors with the recent stream of “Forget You”, which Paste Magazine said takes “the atmospheric elements of their music even further.(https://soundcloud.com/relapserecords/royal-thunder-forget-you/s-JHKg9)
It’s a song that has a heady blend of the sludgy blues stomp that garnered them widespread attention and even heavier, darker elements than before.”

Royal Thunder is Mlny Parsonz, Josh Weaver, Evan Diprima and Will Fiore. Royal Thunder began work on the album in early 2014, returning to work at the Aria Recording Studio where they recorded the band’s critically lauded debut, CVI.
Pitchfork described singer Mlny Parsonz as “a blues-rock banshee of a woman, equal parts riot grrl and gospel diva” while Spin said she “commands a bluesy mix of Led Zep and Sleater-Kinney.” Rolling Stone’s David Fricke said Weaver’s playing has “the meaty, base elements of early-Seventies British blues.”

(February 25th, 2015 – New York, NY) – Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. The Purple Album will be released in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. The Purple Album is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order on Amazon in a deluxe edition format ( http://geni.us/WSPurpleDLXamz ) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album. Whitesnake was formed in England in 1978 by David Coverdale. Some METAL And Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Thursday, February 5th, 2015

I know I am in line as one of the biggest critics of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame; however I do want to congratulate artists that do get elected in and that I dig beyond all belief. One such artist/band is Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. I realize this is rather old news in today’s up-to-the-second information chain; yet I still wanted to give Joan Jett & The Blackhearts their proper due on Metal Odyssey for achieving what seems to be the impossible: impressing the voters of the Rock Hall.
It almost seems as if this Power Pop meets gritty Rock ‘N’ Roll gal and her band have quietly persevered over the decades, never reinventing the wheel and just staying true to their sound and style that I grew to love very quickly as a young lad. I’ve stated this before on Metal Odyssey and I’m proud to state it again: I had a wicked crush on Joan Jett when I was a freshman and sophomore in high school. Whoa. I did see Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in concert once, back in the late 80’s and I remember it being a very cool show. Good times.
Without question, it was long overdue for the late Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble to get inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The late Stevie Ray Vaughan was and forever will be one of the greatest in Rock ‘N’ Roll history, for me. Man, if you ever want to perk yourself up and shred away negativity around you, just listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. For real.
Speaking of the great Ringo Starr, it’s hard to believe it took this damn long for the Rock Hall to induct him as a solo artist. Unreal. I can still see my late sister’s 45rpm of Ringo Starr’s You’re Sixteen, spinning on the old turntable. Man, it seems like yesterday, to me. Pictured above is the cover sleeve for the 45rpm of You’re Sixteen. Good times.
Last Summer (July) I ventured up to Connecticut and was able to hang out with my Best Metal Buddy and Metal Odyssey contributor/researcher Scott Coverdale. One of our to-do boxes was checked off when we went to Music Outlet in Enfield, Connecticut. If you look closely at the above photo, you’ll notice that Scott Coverdale has a psyched-out look on his face, cause he is about to buy a couple of new CD’s. Good times!

This may be off the Metal topic, still, here is a question to ponder: What are your five favorite movies of all time? It seems as if my top five movies change around every now and again. Even so, here are my (current) top five movies of all time and in no particular order: They Live, Escape From New York, Field Of Dreams, Night Of The Living Dead (original black & white) and the super hilarious Wedding Crashers. Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale insisted I watch Wedding Crashers, several years ago; I nearly split open from laughter, while watching it the first time! No, Fried Green Tomatoes doesn’t make my list. Metal Be Thy Name!

I truly enjoyed trying to stay on top of many, many Hard Rock releases that 2014 had to offer. From the dozens or more Hard Rock albums I listened to this past year, this Top 10 represents the titles that psyched me out the most; these are my choice albums that excel from start to finish.
Music creates vibrations that are unique, mystical and timeless. Music is a universal communication that brings us all together, from all walks of life, unlike anything else. Hopefully you’ll appreciate one or many from my personal Top 10 list. Metal be thy name.

Michael Sweet has, for me, delivered what I consider to be one of the most inspiring Hard Rock albums I’ve ever listened to. If last year’s Stryper album, No More Hell To Pay, wasn’t enough to lift me into the Milky Way of hope and positive reinforcement, then Michael Sweet’s new solo album has put triple asterisks on my will to overcome my personal fears and mistakes. I’m Not Your Suicide is a powerful and sincere album from a musician, songwriter, lyricist and singer that I believe to be an American music treasure.

On This Day In METAL History, January 23rd… From Led Zeppelin To Robin Zander

On January 23, 1969 – The iconic Led Zeppelin performed at The Boston Tea Party, in Boston Massachusetts. This was the first in a three-night stand at this venue for Led Zeppelin. Ready for this… ticket admission was $3.50 in U.S. funds. Holy crap, WHOA!!
On this day in 1988 – Heart sits at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their song: There’s The Girl. This hit peaked at #12 and is featured on the Heart studio album from 1987: Bad Animals.
On January 23, 2015 – Nickelback’s new studio album, No Fixed Address, has fallen to #84 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. This album has spent 9 consecutive weeks on this chart and peaked at #4.
On this day in 2015 – Pearl Jam Ten returns to the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, sitting at #157. This amazing album has spent 257 non-consecutive weeks on this chart and in 1992 it peaked at #2.
ROBIN ZANDER

On January 23rd, 1953, Robin Zander was born. Happy birthday, Robin! Yeah! Robin Zander is famously known as the lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist for the super-great Hard Rock legends: Cheap Trick. Robin Zander also has a couple of solo studio albums on his enviable Rockin’ resume; these solo albums were released back in 1993 and 2010, respectively.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Joe started playing drums at the age of five. Privately tutored and professionally trained, Joe honed his skills throughout the years joining his first band DIADEM and then moved to Los Angeles, California attending UCLA and graduated with a four-year degree in music. Joe auditioned for the band Rockstar Supernova and then went on to join the band Tommy Had A Vision. Joe did session work and performed at a variety of industry events before getting the gig with Gene Loves Jezebel in 2013.
“As a young boy growing up I have looked up to many artists. I am not just a fan of their timeless music but they are also my musical Idols.
