WHITESNAKE – Cancels 2022 North America Tour Dates

Posted in classic rock, classic rock bands, Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Heavy Metal, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 7, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Due to David Coverdale’s “persistent upper respiratory infection” Whitesnake has cancelled their 2022 North American tour with Scorpions and Thundermother. Scorpions and Thundermother will still proceed with their North American tour, together.

From Whitesnake.com:

It is with profound disappointment and a heavy heart that I must announce that Whitesnake will no longer be able to join The Scorpions on their US and Canadian tour due to my continued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection that affects my ability to perform. This includes the cancellation of our own headlining shows as well.

While Whitesnake will no longer be on the tour, the Scorpions will be continuing on. We Wish Our Good Friends, The Scorpions Every Success!!!

We Wish You Well”

David Coverdale

Pre-Order the Deluxe CD on AMAZON

Pre-Order the Regular CD on AMAZON

(February 25th, 2015 – New York, NY) – Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. The Purple Album will be released in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. The Purple Album is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order on Amazon in a deluxe edition format ( http://geni.us/WSPurpleDLXamz ) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album. A standard edition and a double LP vinyl format will be available in the near future. Plans are also underway for a special limited box set edition with memorabilia and merchandise. All details will be announced soon.

“It’s a tribute. A homage. It’s a huge thank you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago,” states Coverdale. “As I said to Ritchie, you guys set me on an incredible journey that continues today and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The University of Deep Purple was an extraordinary, amazing school to learn from. We can’t wait to play these songs in concert!”

From the opening notes of the classic track “Burn,” to album closer “Stormbringer,” Whitesnake are back and better than ever. Songs like “Lady Double Dealer,” “Soldier of Fortune” and “Sail Away” are given a new energy in the very capable hands of the current Whitesnake lineup featuring David Coverdale on vocals, Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitars, Michael Devin on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums. A video for the first single “Stormbringer” can be seen below:

Whitesnake was formed in England in 1978 by David Coverdale. The band has released multi-platinum selling albums throughout the years and have been known for hits such as “Slide It In,” “Here I Go Again,” “Still Of The Night” and “Is This Love.” Whitesnake will hit the road this summer on a headlining world tour.

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Saturday, May 24th, 2014

Death - Individual Thought Patterns - promo cover pic

Hello my fellow Metal brethren and Rockaholics! It is Saturday morning on May 24th, 2014. In another month from now, the year will be nearly half over! Whoa! Today in Southwestern Ohio it is sunny with a most fantastic blue sky, along with a current temperature of 68°F. When it comes to weather, it just doesn’t get more comfortable than that! However, the humidity will settle in later today and I will surely sweat like a stranded hippo on a Florida highway, by late afternoon. Whoa.

Biohazard - classic band logo - 2014 - #1011

I fell into a whiz-bang trade yesterday that landed me 6 cassettes from yesteryear. Man, we are talking about Death, Morbid Angel, Biohazard and GWAR, when it comes to these (kinda rare) cassettes! All 6 are in super-duper condition too! Yes, those classic cassettes of our Metal heroes are rising in value and becoming more collectable by the week!

The Death cassette I landed is the incredible 1993 release: Individual Thought Patterns. I’ll post a quick story about this trade, with an accompanying photo in the coming days. Whoa!

My 2000 Ford Taurus is currently sitting idle at my local mechanics shop. That sucks so badly. Apparently, it needs a sensor that triggers some gadget to tell the fuel pump what to do; or something like that. This stinking “sensor” is not available as an “after-market” product; thus the mechanic and I are waiting on the dumb-dumbs at some Ford auto parts warehouse to send the sensor we need asap. This sensor is on backorder; thus I don’t know when I’ll have my car back. Trust me, the car won’t go farther than 20 yards without this ridiculous and necessary part. In the meantime, my wife and I are sharing her car. Yay!!

Whitesnake - classic logo!

Wouldn’t it be sweet if Adrian Vandenberg was to return to Whitesnake, replacing Doug Aldrich? Man, I wish Doug didn’t have to leave Whitesnake, cause he paired up with David Coverdale to write some amazingly memorable songs on their last 2 studio albums. Regardless, Doug Aldrich has a soaring music career happening and Burning Rain is a fine example of that notion.

_______________________________

That’s all I have to say, really. I could write another 5,000 words, however, would you really want to read it? I will be reviewing some killer Death Metal albums in the coming days, stay tuned my Deathaholics! Yes, I will review some new Hard Rock releases from 2014 as well. I have been listening to the  music more than writing about it, lately! It’s all freaking good. Metal be thy name. – Stone

SNAKES And METAL = Some Very Intense And Memorable Album Covers!

Whitesnake - Lovehunter - promo cover pic - #77077

Snakes And Metal – What makes snakes so attractive to Metal? It must be the biblical reference/story of Satan taking the form of a serpent in the Garden Of Eden. No? Maybe it’s the snake being profiled throughout history as simply… evil? No? What about many, many snakes being downright intimidating and venomous? Yes? Regardless the reasoning, snakes are undoubtedly badass; and Metal is badass.

I chose to pick some of my favorite Metal album covers that depict, in various grand forms, the almighty, evil and often times misunderstood snake. I surely hope y’all like the album covers I’ve chosen. For certain, there are probably one million other album covers out there with a snake or two on them, I just cannot list them all! However, feel free to share which snake themed album cover you dig and which did not show up here, via comment.

Whitesnake - classic logo!

The Whitesnake Lovehunter album cover (at top of post) is my all-time favorite snake themed album cover. No, no, no… it’s not because of the gal’s naked butt either; although I’ve never complained about it. I first fell in love with this album cover as a graphic design student, many light years ago, back in college. I absolutely cherish the artwork of Lovehunter and countless other works of world-renowned painter/illustrator Chris Achilleos.

WARNING: If you suffer from Ophidiophobia or ophiophobia, which is the abnormal fear of snakes, feel free to leave and visit an ABBA or U2 website.

Satyricon - Volcano - promo cover pic - #77590

SATYRICON – VOLCANO

Released back in 2002, this fifth album from the powerful Satyricon depicts a snake that looks 100% evil. Pure evil. A perfect Satyricon album cover! It’s as if this snake will leap from the cover and bite my face off. I love that! Plus, I love this album and band.

Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill - promo cover pic - #660805

PANTERA – THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL

Released back in 1996, The Great Southern Trendkill is another album I infinitely love. PANTERA is personified to perfection with this snake, cause it looks extremely pissed-off and ready to strike! This snake doesn’t seem like it wants to f*$K around; it looks like it wants to kill and eat anything in its path. Neat.

Fight Or Flight - A Life By Design? - promo cover pic - #22892

FIGHT OR FLIGHT – A LIFE BY DESIGN?

Released in 2013, A Life By Design by the Metal/Hard Rock supergroup Fight Or Flight is a tremendous album! I wish I had room to put it on my best of list, from last year. The album cover depicts a creepy, creepy snake that has syringes for fangs! Ouch!! Plus, that melancholy driven corn field as a back-drop, only worsens the nightmare for me. Excellent!

Alice Cooper "Constrictor" X-Large Album Pic!!

ALICE COOPER – CONSTRICTOR

Compare this snake on Alice Cooper’s Constrictor cover and it doesn’t look to be as mean-spirited as the others on this list. However, this snake is wrapping itself around Alice Cooper’s neck and face rather well. A very commercial Alice Cooper album from 1986, I do enjoy listening to it for its over-the-top mid-80’s MTV and Arena charm.

Escape The Fate - This War Is Ours - promo cover pic - #660303

ESCAPE THE FATE – THIS WAR IS OURS

This sophomore album from Escape The Fate I don’t own. I do own their last two releases. With that out-of-the-way, This War Is Ours, from 2008, has snakes bookending their band logo in a subtle, yet very cool way. Sometimes, less snake is more. The overall artwork is solid as hell too.

_____________________________

That concludes this Snakes and Metal list! Thanks for taking part! Perhaps y’all dug it? If not, please feel free to pull out your Barbara Streisand CD’s and crank ’em up to the point of constipation. Metal be thy name.

Whitesnake - Made-in-Britain

During 2011, the mighty Whitesnake embarked on one of their most successful world tours in recent times, performing 96 shows in over 35 countries, starting in North America in May right the way through until the 2nd UK run in December…

The request for another live album came from the incredible Whitesnake fans, who are notoriously not shy about insisting what they want from their favorite musical reptiles…So, before heading out on the ‘FOREVERMORE WORLD TOUR 2011’, the decision was made to record every performance on the tour….

After spending the early part of 2012 editing and mixing the “WHITESNAKE MADE IN JAPAN” DVD the production team The Brutal Brothers, DC, Doug & Mikey Mac had the task of listening back to over 90 shows and 130 hours of 100% raw, muscular WHITESNAKE performances began in earnest…

________________________________

Inspired by the performances from the 9 sold out UK shows and and a further 87 performances from around the world, the CD MADE IN BRITAIN & it’s accompanying CD THE WORLD RECORD was born.

The recent ‘FOREVERMORE” songs shine as brightly as the classic Whitesnake songs, “IS THIS LOVE” …”STILL OF THE NIGHT” and “HERE I GO AGAIN,” all performed with feverish energy, encouraged by remarkably enthusiastic audiences from NEWCASTLE to SAO PAOLO…

Once again, WHITESNAKE have delivered the goods that fans new and old, have been clamoring for…& make no mistake, this is WHITESNAKE at their finest & most electrifying…now YOU can relive the energy, the passion, the brilliance of a band still as resoundingly relevant today as they have ever been…

Five (More) Hard Rock Albums You Must Own This Summer Of 2011 – Part II: Whitesnake, The Poodles and…

Posted in classic rock, classic rock music, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, melodic rock, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 5, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

It’s been a fantastic year thus far for Hard Rock album releases. No, make that super fantastic. The obvious trend I’ve seen with all these incredible Hard Rock albums of 2011 is: A majority of these albums are from seasoned or old school bands. There have been many comeback albums released so far this year that absolutely ROCK… hello King KobraThe CarsWarrantMr. Big and Nelson, to name more than a few.

Realistically, I cannot possibly listen to every Hard Rock album that’s been released at this point in the year, therefore this list of MUST OWN albums for this Summer of 2011 may not correspond with your favorites in parts or in whole. As we approach the midway point of 2011, these are the Hard Rock albums that have ROCKED my brains out! In my Metal opinion, these are five albums worth your hard earned money to buy and crank up LOUD during this coming Summer of 2011… and beyond.

Metal Odyssey Note: This list is in no particular order and it is Part II of a series. All the albums chosen are 2011 releases. You have to wait for the “Metal Odyssey Best Of 2011” lists that come out around Christmas/New Years for a definitive list. Be patient, that time will come quicker than we all know!

SHAKRA – From Switzerland comes the Hard Rockin’ and much experienced… SHAKRA. This band puts double exclamation points after their brand of Hard Rock and I’m listening! Back On Track (AFM Records) is the 8th studio release from SHAKRA, plus they are showcasing a new lead singer: John Prakesh, replacing Mark Fox. John comes across as an original with some slight Mark Storace (Krokus) influence here and there.

Old Schoolers from the 80’s heydays of Arena dwelling just have to dig what SHAKRA plays for Hard Rock, I know I dig ’em. Mixed into all 13 melodically driven songs on this album, there’s so much thump and stomp and tasty guitar licks happening that it makes for an above memorable listen time and again. Once you buy and listen to this new SHAKRA album, it might just become a top favorite on your playlist, due to the Hard Rockin’ ass kicking it gives you.

THE POODLES – Attention North America: There is a Hard Rock band from Sweden that are a hot ticket over in Europe and they deservedly should catch on over this side of the Atlantic, they call themselves: THE POODLES. On May 3rd, 2011, the fourth studio album from this Swiss Hard Rockin’ outfit, Performocracy, was released in the U.S. via Frontiers Records. This new album is incredibly loaded with everything great about Melodic Hard Rock and… quality songs are the rule!

From the lead vocals of Jakob Samuel and the beyond catchy chorus, to the driving guitar of Henrik Bergqvist, Performocracy has 13 songs without one filler to be heard. THE POODLES make it their mission to ROCK like a late 80’s Arena Band while bestowing a bounty of impressive hard edged relevancy. This band steers away from the corn-dog lyrics that so often becomes recycled from generation to generation. I really dig listening to THE POODLES. Fans of 80’s Hard Rock along with connoisseurs of today’s mainstream and non-mainstream Hard Rock should find them very appealing too.

Warning: There is “something” about the overall sound, feel and vibes of THE POODLES songs, thus becoming unavoidably contagious to the ears, resulting in ultra-repeated listens to Performocracy.

SEETHER – I wrote in a previous post regarding this new SEETHER album, that the song Here And Now brought me to tears. I will never shy away from the Metal truth, that song hit me on a personal level like an emotional avalanche. Just a tremendous song it is, with it’s unbelievably melodic ride. Released on May 17th, via Wind-up, Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray is yet another Hard Rockin’ milestone in the growing and always impressive catalog from SEETHER.

Shaun Morgan proved to me a long time ago he is a premier songwriter, musician and vocalist. Shaun’s lyrical expressions are simply amazing on this new album. I can’t prevent myself from calling this album a contender for Hard Rock album of the year… or even album of the year. Country Song became an instant hit once it was available on iTunes as the lead single… and for good reason, this song Rocks. SEETHER convincingly shows they are a band that can play the ever legit Heavy Rock, with their unique Alternative style, while the mainstream absorbs them like a Hard Rock hungry sponge.

WHITESNAKE – There is that mystique about David Coverdale’s vocals that just makes me feel like everything is alright… that everything is gonna be okay. It’s always felt that way to me, regarding David’s vocals, going back three decades now. David Coverdale can sing the Hard Rock daylights out of the sky and still he comes across as soothing to my ears. Does that sound corn-dog? Maybe… at least I’m being honest though.

David Coverdale has never sounded mightier, while his band is as melodic and Hard Rock driven as ever, on the eleventh studio album from Whitesnake. Forevermore, which released back in March on Frontiers Records is solid proof that Whitesnake reigns atop the Hard Rock heap, looking up at no one. Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach are quickly becoming a legendary Hard Rock guitar duo and Forevermore is the audio evidence. Between deluxe editions, Amazon.com and iTunes, there are loads of bonus tracks out there for Forevermore that you can sink your Hard Rockin’ senses into.

What separates Whitesnake from the pack of other old school Hard Rock bands, is this band’s uncanny ability to write and play songs that instantly scream out: timeless. To not own Forevermore, if your a Hard Rock fan, is a crime under the Metal Odyssey “Code Of Rock”. My favorite song on Forevermore is One of These Days. It’s just like I said at the beginning of this post… David Coverdale sings this song and it’s alrightmy vibes tell me everything is gonna be okay.

BLACK STONE CHERRY – Back in 2006, Black Stone Cherry released their self-titled debut on RoadRunner Records and I was drawn into their Classic Rock influence from the onset. The raw sound of this band may have diminished a good deal since that first album, still there is an air of Classic Rock roots about their sound that makes Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea so attention grabbing. This being the third studio album from Black Stone Cherry, all with RoadRunner Records, this one can easily be pointed out as their best. This band is a throwback to when artists cared about writing and playing a complete album of songs.

The bluesy vocals of Chris Robertson mingles so well with his Hard Rock and Southern Rock tones. The song Killing Floor is a can of psyche-you-out whoop-ass that I’ll need to drink in for many more years to come. The nod of reverence to old school seems to illuminate from Black Stone Cherry like a beacon, making it a quality that I admire most. With the cover of Can’t You See, originally written by (the late) Toy Caldwell for The Marshall Tucker Band, it only shows the Southern and Classic Rock roots will never fade away for this group. This is an album of 12 songs that will stand the test of Rock ‘n’ Roll time… and forever be labeled a Hard Rock gem from 2011.

Metal Odyssey wants to give out a LOUD Happy Metal Birthday to legendary Rock drummer – Aynsley Dunbar! Aynsley Dunbar turns a solid and cool 64 years of age on January 10th, (born January 10, 1946). Aynsley Dunbar’s association to Heavy Metal is with Whitesnake, UFO and Sammy Hagar, (to name a few), being the drummer on one or some of their respective albums. Being the drummer for Frank Zappa in the early 1970’s is a music milestone in itself. Aynsley was also a member of Journey, being the drummer for their first four studio albums, released from 1975 to 1978. Let’s be real however, Aynsley Dunbar is a fabulous Rock drummer… period. Regardless of Rock genres Aynsley Dunbar has played, at the end of the Metal day it’s all about talent and musical integrity… and he has proved it for decades. A complete list of Rock musicians and bands, that Aynsley has performed with over the decades, would be a who’s who in Rock History for certain. In celebration of Aynsley Dunbar’s birthday and legendary Rock career, I have compiled a very abbreviated list, (in no particular order), of just some of the great Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal albums that he played drums on and bands he was a member of. By no means is this a definitive list of albums that Aynsley Dunbar has appeared on, just a Rock solid salute to his achievements in Rock History.

Thanks for all of the great Rock Music you have created and been a part of Aynsley Dunbar.
