Check out below, the confirmed 2012 U.S. live dates for CINDERELLA. If they’re gonna be in your area, go out and support these true Hard and Heavy Rockin’ legends!
The Sleaze Metal Band Helldorados, from Stuttgart Germany, sign a worldwide record contract with Massacre Records / Soulfood, after their last year’s promotional EP has received very positive reviews all over Germany. The full length album was now produced in the legendary Horus Sound Studios in Hannover (Scorpions, Helloween, Kreator, Victory, Guano Apes) and will be released Friday, 13th of July.
Just in February, 2011, Helldorados recorded a 4-song strong promotional EP in the legendary Horus Sound Studios in Hannover, under the direction of producer Mirko Hofmann. As “a godfather” acted Horus founder Frank Bornemann. From the beginning the ELOY frontman was enthusiastic from the sound, the independence and the logical approach of the Stuttgart quartet. Helldorados now line up themeselves in the list of Bands which recorded some of their most important albums there: Scorpions, Kreator, Helloween, Victory, Guano Apes to call only some.
“Good self and time management does not exclude creativity. We have worked the last 24 months every day very hard for this next logical step,“ Pierre (vocals), Steve (guitars), Gunnar (bass) and Chris (drums) are telling. The times when a newcomer got enormous sums of financial advance, are over definitively. Nowadays it is natural to have a prominent basic product to win other partners, Pierre is sure. With the Massacre Records contract a new chapter is whipped in the band’s history. “We are very glad about the cooperation with a so highly motivated and typically impressive band like Helldorados“, according to A&R manager Thomas Hertler.

Less Sex, Drugs and Roll `N Roll, rather the Blood, Sweat and Tears Helldorados had to experience since the beginning days in 2007. First the Band won a contest price for “best stage performance“ and one year later they sold 500 copies of their first self-distributed album “Just Rock”. More than 100 shows followed in Germany, Switzerland and Austria (supporting Bands like Bullet, Enforcer, Rhino Bucket or Bloodlights) as well as gala show appearances, e.g., at the historical Bregenzer sea stage during the european soccer cup 2008.
In addition the first partnerships begun with local brewery Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu, the English photographer icon Duncan Smith and from 2011 with the Wacken foundation well-known by the world for the biggest Heavy Metal festival. Instrument endorsements with Steve Clayton USA, Pyramid strings Germany or Dr. No Effects Netherlands could also be won. Besides, a global Merchandise licence deal was concluded with the German Art Worx Merchandising AG.
The high-quality production and the dynamic Songwriting of the promotional EP, has given Helldorados the first media attention in all relevant online Fanzines as well as articles in the appropriate magazines. RockHard Vol.296 “… at the latest the Stuttgart quartet presents itself with the ballad “Changes” and the final song “Shout Out” as an absolutely serious candidate on the national rock throne” or Metal Hammer April, 2012 “… these four tracks are worth every second… the EP is convincing with mature songs plus big melodies… Dear A&Rs of the nation – Sign Now!”
At the same time various radio stations played the songs without an entire Helldorados album out on the market. “We see ourselves furthermore as a Rock `N Roll Band in the niche and therefore, are glad about the wide attention. Everything more is add-on anyway,“ says Helldorados guitarist Steve.
Helldorados are musical somewhere between the hit potential of a catchy ABBA tune, the sleaze of Guns `N Roses and the striking force of Pantera. A strange mixture but it seems to function.

Celebrates With 5-Night Stint At The Iridium Nightclub in NYC
(Los Angeles – March 13, 2011) Ever-evolving and improvisational New York guitarist, Wayne Krantz, announces the release of his tenth album, Howie 61, on April 17 through Abstract Logix Records. Better known for his preference of the trio format, the musical main-stay now enlists a multitude of world-class musicians in a variety of lineups, including Vinnie Colaiuta (Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Sting), Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock), Pino Palladino (Jeff Beck, The Who, Eric Clapton), and Anton Fig of The Letterman Show’s “World’s Most Dangerous Band”, among many others (Keith Carlock, James Genus, Nate Wood, Henry Hey, Owen Biddle, Charley Drayton, John Patitucci, John Beasley, Jeremy Stacey, Paul Stacey, Yasushi Miura, David Binney, Kenny Wollesen and Gabriela Anders).
The title, Howie 61, refers to Bob Dylan’s 1965 song, Highway 61 Revisited, an iconic blend of blues-based rock n’ roll riffs. Krantz sends a respectful nod to the musical great through the new format of his latest effort. The result is another step forward for Krantz – a striking album that melds his group improvisation and compositional approaches. Now, Krantz has re-invented himself, yet again, with a stunningly creative recording, and a bold new direction. Highlights include such rocking tracks as “The Bad Guys” and “Can’t Stand To Rock” – both high energy tracks propelled by Krantz’s searing guitar work. On the tongue-in-cheek “U Strip It,” David Binney, a frequent Krantz collaborator, delivers a smoldering sax solo over a playful, driving groove.
___________________________________
Krantz continues to push his artistry even a step further by blending new vocal content into his music; a method more complete and tightly integrated says Krantz, then any of his earlier vocal efforts. “It’s another step in a direction I’ve been making since Long To Be Loose”, he explains. On whether this is the pinnacle of his long career, Krantz says, “This record is not the completion of that journey at all, but it is a step in the direction that’s been in my head now for a really long time.”
Just prior to the album release, Krantz will be joined by a group of friends for a 5-night stint at the famed NYC Iridium Nightclub. The first night will see Krantz join the Les Paul Trio for a special start to the week. Over the next two nights, he will be joined by Cliff Almond on drums, “Cliff has been playing with me in various bands for years and he played on my record, Your Basic Live ’06”; jazz star Chris Potter, on saxophone, who, Krantz toured and recorded with in the band “Underground”. Finally, there is Anthony Tidd on bass who Krantz describes as “the new face for these nights. He’s played with sax legend Steve Coleman as well as producing here and in London.”
For the last two nights, Krantz will be joined by his longtime trio; Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, John Mayer), drums, and Tim Lefebvre (Chris Botti), bass, who held a weekly residency at the 55 Bar in NYC for the last six years. Together, they’ve toured around the world and recorded on Krantz’s last three records.

Vinny Appice – drums (Black Sabbath, DIO, Heaven & Hell)
HEAVYPINK – I just recently had the Rockin’ pleasure to listen to the debut & self-titled 7″ single from HeavyPink. This is the current project from T. Dallas Reed, (vocalist & multi-instrumentalist), known for his membership with Mos Generator and Stone Axe. (See full press release below for more detailed background info).
Now, for the two songs I took in from this single. Whoa. Whoa again. Um, Mr. Reed… please create more? Um, like, how about a full-length album next week? I’m telling both my Heavy Music and Classic Rock brethren right now, both Flower And Song and There Is A Lightare as clever as one could wish for when it comes to Heavy Rock ‘N Roll. With swirls of psychedelia adding ambience amongst the inter-changing tempos of both songs, a 70’s Hard Rock vibe just spills over my senses as I listen with Rockaholic glee.
The way in which these two songs come across to me, they both remind me of hanging out and chilling during the Summertime. Earthy vibes I sense from these songs as well. The guitar tones seem to trigger it all. Go figure.
I applaud T. Dallas Reed for his exceptional end result here with HeavyPink. His fantastic musicianship and vocals come packaged with an honest approach to making Heavy Music that’s both retrospective and relevant. His vocals are subtly reminiscent of a 70’s era Ozzy Osbourne on these songs while the feel of Classic Stoner Rock fills the air. After listening to both songs several times, my best comparison would be Sabbath Bloody Sabbath meets the open-air atmosphere of The Yes Album while being bookended by a Stoner finish.
The Maple Forum is thrilled be releasing the self-titled debut 7” from HeavyPink, the latest project of T. Dallas Reed (Stone Axe, Mos Generator). The vinyl single is limited to 300 and features two brand new cuts, “Flower and Song” and “There is a Light,” exploring a rarely-heard psychedelic side of the Port Orchard, Washington, native’s songwriting.
Reed, who is notoriously DIY, played all the instruments on HeavyPink, sang himself, and recorded the material at his own HeavyHead studio. Fans of Stone Axe will be thrilled to discover that although he is working in a different style, the signature elements of Reed’s work remain intact, most pivotally that there’s zero bullshit involved.
He explains the project’s origins thusly: “Before Mos Generator took our hiatus in 2009 we were working on an album to be called HeavyPink. When the band shelved the project I decided to pick up the concept and use it as a tool to try different recording and writing techniques. I look at it as an experiment in heavy and beautiful music, like ‘Master of Reality’ meets ‘Pet Sounds,’ meets ‘Into the Pandemonium’ all in one and produced by Phil Spector.”

FURYON – If you’re a fan of Hard Rock, Melodic Hard Rock and/or Melodic Heavy Metal, then do yourself a favor today and click on that FURYON video below. Disappear Again is sweltering with melodic guitars and vocals, along with more hooks than a fishing supply store on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. To say this song is an addictive listen (for me) is a gross understatement.
I wanted to hear an album or song this morning that would kickstart my Saturday into high Rockin’ gear, thus I turned to a band and album I’ve yet to check out until now. I am battling a stupid-ass cold and received a welcomed “lift” from a song that I wound up listening to at least 15 (or more) times while I slapped this post together. Disappear Again isthatsong. One damn vibrant rhythm section. Very cool guitar licks and the vocals of Matt Mitchell are stuff of 80’s Arena Rock jubilation.
The all-encompassing Melodic Hard Rockin’ vibe that FURYON delivers on this song has made my F’n day. Looks like FURYON has a nomination for Metal Odyssey’s Hard Rock song of 2012… signed, sealed and delivered. Metal be thy name.
The debut album from FURYON, Gravitas, will be released on March 23rd, 2012 in Europe and March 27th in North America. FURYON is signed to the ultra-Rockin’ Frontiers Records.
FURYON:
Matt Mitchell – Vocals
Chris Green – Guitars
Pat Heath – Guitars
Alex “Nickel” Bowen – Bass
Lee Farmery – Drums
Here’s the track listing for Gravitas:
Disappear Again
Stand Like Stone
Souvenirs
Don’t Follow
New Way of Living
Voodoo Me
Fear Alone
Wasted On You
Our Peace Someday
Desert Suicide

ZZ TOP – Legends. Rock ‘N Roll Hall Of Famers. Mammoth Influence on all genres of Rock. Now then, when a cover song album of ZZ Top songs is released, these “covers” better be damn good. I can’t stand it when a band or musician just messes around with a Rock classic and “thinks” their famous name alone will give them a pass. Not here folks. I will present to you: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly when it comes to these ZZ Top cover songs I’ve been listening to on: A Tribute From Friends. Plus, I won’t be swayed by the fact that these are “friends” of ZZ TOP. Sometimes “friends” can ruin a classic song without even trying.
Let’s get right to it, shall we?
______________________________________
THE BAD:
The opening track is Sharp Dressed Man performed by TheM.O.B. Who’s The M.O.B.? Mick Fleetwood, StevenTyler and John McVie. At first, I found this song fun. Then, it irritated the living hell out of me. All I kept picturing was The M.O.B. performing this song at a senior citizen Summer picnic or some Sunday afternoon church fair, with all in attendance going crazy for it. When a cover song sounds “old” and trudging… that’s what happens to my imagination.
Somehow Wolfmother had Cheap Sunglasses thrown in their lap to cover. Not good. I dig the first two studio albums from Wolfmother, only I don’t grasp this cover of Cheap Sunglasses. Annoying. I’ll have to admit, this is the first time I’ve ever been not keen to Andrew Stockdale’s vocals. Another problem is, this cover song sounds way too much like… Wolfmother. A disinterested Wolfmother at that.
THE UGLY:
So sorry that a Rockaholic and Metalhead like myself had NO clue who Wyclef Jean is until now. Rough Boy sounds so over-covered here entirely. Come on now, a Hip Hop / R&B artist covering a ZZ Top song? That is not an entirely bad idea, as long as this song is on an album of covers from ALL artists of Wyclef Jean’s genre.
This song unfortunately doesn’t fit in with the “Rock” flow for me, on this album. To my ears, Rough Boy was as “commercial” as it could get for ZZ TOP back in 1986 and this cover only magnifies it’s “Pop” personality to an embarrassing level. If Wyclef Jean is a friend of ZZ Top’s, then ZZ TOP should have remembered: “friends don’t let friends cover their songs”.
THE GOOD:
Nickelback. Yes, Nickelback. This love ’em or hate ’em Hard Rockin’ band knocked it out of the Classic Rock park with their cover of Legs. This song does sound like Nickelback, yet they did not stray from the non-stop Rockin’ groove that this song originally was all about. Nickelback just gave it more heaviness.
Daughtry. Yes, Daughtry. This guy sings Waitin’ For The Bus / Jesus Left Chicago as if he really digs and feels the song thoroughly. I make NO apologies, Chris Daughtry sings this ZZ TOP classic straight from the heart. Hell, that’s how it comes across to me anyways. Plus, Daughtry didn’t screw around with this songs tempo or try to “reinvent the F’n wheel” with it.
Mastodon. These guys gave Just Got Paid their signature stamp of progressiveness without even trying. Turning JustGot Paid into a relevant Hard Rock song that smokes was obviously… the mission of Mastodon.
Filter covers Gimme All Your Lovin‘ with a grand Alternative meets Industrial sound that is admirable. It’s Filter. The legendary Billy F Gibbons lends his vocals and electric guitar to La Grange. Cool. The remaining tracks are fine listens, just watch out for the bad and the ugly. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
* ZZ TOP – A Tribute From Friends was released back on October 11th, 2011, via Show Dog / Universal.

Ronnie Montrose – Legendary guitarist and Hard Rock & Heavy Metal pioneer Ronnie Montrose passed away on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012, at the age of 64. From numerous credible reports, it has been stated that Ronnie Montrose was battling prostate cancer. Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family, friends and fans of Ronnie Montrose.
The A-list of musicians that Ronnie Montrose had recorded and played with throughout his legendary career is extensive, (Boz Skaggs, Van Morrison, The Edgar Winter Group) to name a few. Ronnie Montrose had of course, his very own legendary Hard Rock band Montrose, a band in which Sammy Hagar debuted in, fronted and received his career break from. Ronnie Montrose also enjoyed much success with the Rock/Hard Rock/AOR band Gamma.
The Rock N’ Roll of Ronnie Montrose shall live on forever. Rest in peace, Ronnie Montrose.

As you prep your SXSW dance card, you’ll definitely want to add the Austin based duo, Not In The Face. These guys havebeen described by those in the know as; Grimy, gritty and raw – Low-Fi and boisterous with a Texas redneck attitude – blistering blues-pop – Righteous! – their songs reveal a mean streak and melodic sense that would make Paul Westerberg proud…like a punk rock Springsteen from the Deep South.

As you will see, some of the things we’re offering include a never-before-released Vixen song, as well as advance copies of a new Vixen album and live concert video. There are also some one-of-a-kind items and opportunities, like the chance to own the actual desk used on the cover of “Live & Learn” or a guitar signed by all the Vixen foxes or even a pizza date at the Rainbow Bar & Grill with all of the girls!
I guess the above poster says it all. Big name bands. Up and coming bands too. It’s cool that the promoters of Rocklahoma want to “mix things up” with a wide representation of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. From what I’m seeing looking at this Rocklahoma lineup, there is something for just about every Heavy Music fan, both young and (gulp) old. No Death or Black Metal bands on this Rocklahoma bill though, what a shame.
ANTI-MORTEM is a Heavy Hittin’ and Hard Rockin’ band from Oklahoma that kicks some very serious ass. Very serious ass they kick. I’m not one for whining about whose band name is bigger on any F’n festival poster, yet MEGADETH should have their name up at the top. I imagine the same can be said for SLASH and QUEENSRYCHE too. Metal be thy name.
