Following the band’s first album under the AFM banner with 2009’s lauded Memorial Roots, German Power Metal kings BRAINSTORM will set loose their sophomore full-length for the label with the North American release of On The Spur Of The Moment on November 8th. SINNER – One Bullet Left: Releases In North America On November 8th, 2011 On AFM Records

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , on October 12, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Hard Rock kings SINNER, who have been engaging the scene with their blistering tunes since the mid-’80s, are back with a brand new album (AFM Records) and are preparing to unleash One Bullet Left onto North American fans this November 8th. The usual cycle of long gap between SINNER albums is over, as One Bullet Left sees release only three years after their persuasive Crash & Burn album. Coming back hard on this album with a renewed lineup, of course you can expect the SINNER-typical guitar harmonies and a high-quality base of Traditional Heavy Metal and honest, handmade Rock, celebrated in a fresh and gutsy way.

Band leader, bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, etc.) has rounded-out the new SINNER lineup with drummer Andre Hilgers (Rage), returning guitarist Alex Beyrodt (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, etc.), and two additional guitarists Christof Leim (The New Black) and Alex Scholpp (Tarja, Farmer Boys)… yes, three guitarists this time. Recorded and produced in several studios in Europe by Mat Sinner, mixed and mastered then by Achim Köhler, some might say SINNER are at their very best on One Bullet Left.

One Bullet Left Track Listing:

01. The One You Left Behind

02. Back On Trail

03. Give & Take

04. One Bullet Left

05. 10 2 Death

06. Haunted

07. Atomic Playboys

08. Suicide Mission

On Tuesday, November 8th, 2011, Cruz del Sur Music will release Dawn Of Infinity, the sophomore full-length offering from recent label signing, UK traditional Metallers DARK FOREST, onto North American soil. Featuring ten triumphant NWOBHM-styled compositions, Dawn Of Infinity soars with over 50 minutes of glorious, unfiltered, heartfelt Traditional Heavy Metal fans of DARK FOREST throughout the underground have embraced since the band’s formation in 2002.

Two tracks from Dawn Of Infinity are now available for streaming via the label’s official Facebook page. Check out the tracks “Light Years On” and “Under The Greenwood Tree” at this location.

Cruz del Sur Music signed DARK FOREST in June of this year as the band entered the studio to record Dawn Of Infinity, after watching the young Birmingham, England-based outfit evolve over the last few  years. Bearing a strong appreciation for the forefathers of the genre, and producing the full-blooded sound of a distinctly English brand of Heavy Metal, the new album fulfills the expectations placed on one of the most interesting bands in the UK’s contemporary Traditional Metal scene, infusing British folklore and Celtic inspiration into their craft.

BOLT THROWER – Latest 25th Anniversary News

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on October 10, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

2011 is the year of the 25th anniversary in the history of BOLT THROWER. It´s about time for an update from the band:

“Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don’t split up and you’ll reach one, whether it’s 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we’ve reached ’25 years of not splitting up’!

We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn’t give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given since 1986, and that we’ve been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We’ve been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that’s the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.

So, we want to organize a Bolty Birthday Bash, where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years. We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we’ll get there in the end! Well, that’s all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon, so keep checking back.”

Cheers,

Bolt Thrower

NILE – Worship The Animal / 1994 The Lost Recordings: 5 Songs Of Essential, Savage Metal

Posted in album reviews, Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , on October 10, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

NILE – Releasing on October 11th, 2011, on Goomba Music, is the five song hidden Metal treasure from NILE: Worship The Animal / 1994 The Lost Recordings. Let’s put this (new) release from NILE into Metal perspective here, these are five Extreme/Death Metal songs recorded back in 1994 that obliterate a noteworthy percentage of the average and “good” albums that cross my Metal path in 2011. These “lost recordings” from NILE are without a doubt in my Metal mind, essential to pick up and listen to on a continued timetable. Metal be thy name.

This early demo from NILE is saturated with crunchy riffs from Karl Sanders and a Thrash colliding with Death Metal wall of sound. Haunting vibes run rampant throughout, while slivers of Doom Metal resonate from many guitar parts, with Surrounded By Fright being a fine example of this. No where is there a dull moment on these songs, they are raw and in your face with a real-feel that I cannot deny. The bass of Chief Spires and drumming of Pete Hammoura are stuff of underground Metal legend on these songs… enough thundering stump to create a sink hole beneath your tower speakers.

The vocals are fierce and hair-raising, just what any NILE fan would come to expect. The union of these mammoth vocals and Metal are an all-encompassing experience of just how incredible NILE did sound at their onset. The chant-like backing vocals on the title track are immediately haunting and it’s elements like this that made NILE stand out among their Death Metal peers of yesterday and even now. This title track is my favorite out of the five and I can’t get enough of it. Metal as my witness, I’m placing this Worship The Animal song on my personal list of greatest Metal songs ever. You bet it is, in all of its non-technical, stripped down and riff heavy glory.

NILE has certainly come a long way since these lost recordings were created, always raising their own bar on jaw-dropping technicality heard swirling within their legendary Death Metal style. Listening to these songs makes me realize that NILE and Karl Sanders were destined to persevere and exist with Death Metal authority in 2011. The Ancient Egyptian themes all started here, a lyrical trademark with NILE. These never before mass-released recordings are the building blocks of what has evolved over time, with this ever successful Death Metal juggernaut. The original NILE lineup has easily been anointed legendary, only these lost recordings power-stamp this Metal fact.

NILE – Original Lineup:

Karl Sanders – guitar & vocals

Chief Spires – bass & vocals

Pete Hammoura – drums

Worship The Animal / 1994 The Lost Recordings Track List:

La Chant Du Cygre

Worship The Animal

Nepenthe

Surrounded By Fright

JUDAS PRIEST – THE CHOSEN FEW: Greatest Hits Picked By Heavy Music Legends Releasing October 11, 2011

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 7, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

JUDAS PRIESTThe Chosen Few is a 17 song compilation album spanning the discography of the legendary Judas Priest and is releasing on October 11, 2011, via Sony/Legacy. In Metal essence, this is a “greatest hits” album which does salute Judas Priest and their unparalleled Metal career. Yes, Judas Priest does have many compilations/greatest hits albums out there, I agree. The story behind The Chosen Few is that all 17 songs have been “chosen” by an impressive group of legendary musicians of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

Oops. Here goes Stone straying off topic a bit here, with the “legendary” musicians who chose songs for The Chosen Few. I had to go and call these musicians “legendary”, now didn’t I? Chris Jericho chose a song and he is cool, still, he has a ways more to go before I call him a legendary musician. Do I consider Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God legendary? I’ve got an answer for you: yes. Yes again.

In my Metal opinion, this is a grand collection of Judas Priest songs, a collection that will prove to be essential for those fans who do not own every Judas Priest album. I will take a pass on buying The Chosen Few for the time being, with money being tight I would much rather pick up new studio albums or vintage releases that I already don’t own. Buying The Chosen Few when I already own the songs just isn’t practical for me. Regardless of my passing over on The Chosen Few, I would recommend new fans of Judas Priest and those fans who don’t own all of the songs to buy it, it looks like a winner to me.

Two Judas Priest classics, that I would have chosen for The Chosen Few are: Hot Rockin’ (Point Of Entry – 1981) and Some Heads Are Gonna Roll (Defenders Of The Faith – 1984). What Judas Priest song(s) would you have chosen for this album? I believe there are 16 studio albums that Judas Priest has their legendary name on, so choosing a favorite song or two is both easy and difficult at the same time for me. I would have to say my favorite Judas Priest album is Stained Class from 1978. Okay, which is my favorite Judas Priest song ever? ACCEPT “chose” my favorite Judas Priest song for The Chosen Few: Exciter. This solid as steel Metal song is from Stained Class too.

Judas Priest is a Metal band that steamrolled the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal into my brain, so many years ago. I honestly couldn’t vision a world of Heavy Metal without their presence and influence. Once Judas Priest are a retired band, I will miss the living Metal daylights out of them. Metal be thy name.

Check out the track listing below for The Chosen Few. The musicians who chose each respective song are listed as well.

Diamonds And Rust (1977) – chosen by Joe Elliot (Def Leppard)

Dissident Aggressor (1977) – chosen by Steve Vai

Exciter (1978)- chosen by Accept

Beyond The Realms Of Death (1978) – chosen by Lars Ulrich (Metallica)

Delivering The Goods (1979) – chosen by Kerry King (Slayer)

The Green Manalishi (with the Two-Pronged Crown) (1979) – chosen by Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) & David Coverdale (Whitesnake)
