2012-09-12 – SUICIDE SILENCE are proud to announce that they have inked a deal with Nuclear Blast. As one of the leaders of the Extreme Modern Metal movement, it is only fitting that their new home be one of the biggest Metal labels on the planet. It’s a union that is sure to bring much success to both parties in the not so distant future.
“I’ve been following SUICIDE SILENCE since their debut album and immediately grew to love their music,“ commented Nuclear Blast CEO, Markus Staiger. “I knew we had to work with this amazing band and today is the day to finally welcome one of the most brutal bands on Earth to the Nuclear Blast family. The next SUICIDE SILENCE album will no doubt push boundaries once again.“
“I am thrilled to have such an innovative and unique band like SUICIDE SILENCE as the first signing to Nuclear Blast Entertainment,” added NB Entertainment (a newly formed division of Nuclear Blast) President MonteConner. “Even though I was totally blown away by their last album, The Black Crown, I am certain the band’s best music is still ahead of them.”
Guitarist Mark Heylmun commented:
“I and all of SUICIDE SILENCE are proud to announce that we have signed a worldwide deal with the one and only Nuclear Blast. It wasn’t a tough decision, Nuclear Blast has been a huge part of Heavy Metal for decades and we couldn’t be happier. This is a new beginning for us and we’re ready as all hell! Let Chapter 2 begin now!”
“I am beyond stoked to be signing to the sickest of all Heavy Metal record labels,” continues bassist Dan Kenny. “It has been a dream of mine since I was a youngster with Nuclear Blast posters on my bedroom wall”
North American Label Manager Gerardo Martinez concluded:
“It’s pretty amazing when you hear SUICIDE SILENCE talk about the Nuclear Blast bands they love. It puts all of us on the same level – we are all music fans here. Super stoked to be a part of history with this Californian bunch!”
SUICIDE SILENCE’s Nuclear Blast Entertainment debut is tentatively scheduled for a Summer 2013 release!

Elusive German Doom quartet OBELYSKKH have completed their second full-length, WhiteLightnin’,confirmed for release via the avant-garde-minded riffmongers at Exile On Mainstream Records in North America on October 16th.
Today the aficionados of thunderous riffage at The Obelisk have gladly premiered a brand new track from OBELYSKKH, and not simply because of the obvious name kinship… but because they were the right doomsters for the job. Deafen all in earshot with the fourth track from White Lightnin’, the six-and-a-half minute homage to their previous album, via “Mount Nysa” RIGHT HERE.
Amidst tours and live performances throughout Germany and abroad since their 2008 inception, White Lightnin’ follows-up OBELYSKKH’s long-time-comin’ debut Mount Nysa, which was released in 2011 via now defunct German label Droehnhaus, nearly four years after the band’s formation. Following the immediately incredible response from the Doom/Sludge scene it received, the band decided against a massive gap until the next album, and over the turn of the year into 2011 set up camp with Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Mr. Bungle, Eyehategod, High On Fire, Melvins, etc.) to capture, mix and master their new work.
The more than hour-long White Lightnin’ is a roaring tour de force of catchy, flowing Sludge/Doom with just the right amount of atmospheric properties to counter its skull-shattering low-end assault, drawing from pure filth through psychedelic soundscapes into postrock and back. The output of OBELYSKKH is crushing but it also breathes some kind of repetitive mantra-like ambition, which clears the air here and there and thus declines total negativity. Diehards of Sleep, Ufomammut, Electric Wizard and labelmates Black Shape of Nexus will unquestionably embrace this outfit’s offerings into their record collections.
Recent Indie Recordings signees, NIDINGR, will unleash their new full-length, Greatest Of Deceivers, in North America on November 20th. Starring present and past members of bands such as Mayhem, Gorgoroth, DHG (Dødheimsgard), 1349 and God Seed, among others, the Norwegian Black Metal magicians are known for their efficiently complex songwriting, ravagingly dissonant, yet infinitely catchy riffs and breakneck tempos. Their two previous offerings — 2005’s Sorrow Infinite And Darkness and 2010’sWolf Father — prove what this maniacal assault is capable of.
NIDINGR recorded G.O.D. in Crystal Canyon Studios in Oslo, home to a host of prominent Norwegian acts including cult experimentalists Ulver, to accomplish a unique ‘70s, vintage style production. The sound they’ve created is a wholly organic, warm, unedited and un-triggered production that further emphasizes the great musicianship caught on tape. Greatest Of Deceivers was produced by guitarist Teloch, mixed by Anders Møller (Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O, Euroboys, 120 Days, Turbonegro, etc.) and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. The cover was crafted by the renowned Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Nachtmystium, Paradise Lost, Watain, Blut Aus Nord, etc.).
Greatest Of Deceivers continues the theme from Sorrow Infinite And Darkness, based on Enochian texts. As on the previous album, ten Enochian Æthyrs are evoked through the course of the album.
Greatest Of Deceivers Track Listing:
01. Greatest Of Deceivers
02. All Crowns Fall
03. O Thou Empty God
04. The Balances
05. Vim Patior
06. Rags Upon A Beggar

Alpine Black/Death occultists VALDUR recently completed composing their upcoming, as-yet, untitled new full-length. Official recording sessions will commence on November 12th at Earhammer Studios. Additionally, VALDUR recently unleashed an ultra limited two-song EP entitled The Hammer Pitcontaining a rough version of two new songs. Taste the blood of track one, “Conjuring The Fire Plagues,” at the band’s Official BandCamp Page. When asked to talk about the upcoming new material, the band said in a collective statement: “We wish not to elaborate too much and allow the music that we will be putting out in the near future to do the talking.”
In the meantime, check out VALDUR live in the studio at KDVS at THIS LOCATION.
Hailing from Mammoth Lakes, California, VALDUR released Raven God Amongst Us in 2010 via Blood Mountain Records. The record proved to be an infernal masterpiece among the underground masses. Noted The Metal Crypt in a review of the record: “USBM is so often by the numbers that I am wary of it right out of the gate, but this is a band that remembers what is good about black metal, and does it very well indeed. Not an album to overlook,”About.com called the band, “the best black metal band in the United States that you’ve probably never heard of,” while Thrash Pit opined, “…a shimmering brand of black metal which pierces hearts rather than suffocates lungs.”
CANNIBAL CORPSE will be embarking on their first U.S. tour since dominating the stage as headliners of the Summer Slaughter Tour 2012. This headlining tour is scheduled to begin on November 16th and wrap up on December 7th. Dates and venues are listed below and can be found on the band’s Facebook page. Support will be provided by Misery Index and Hour of Penance. Tickets for the tour will be on sale beginning September 14th online and at your local venue’s box office.
CANNIBAL CORPSE are touring in support of their critically lauded, impossibly brutal full-length,Torture, released through Metal Blade Records earlier this year. On the twelfth studio offering of their inspiring twenty-four year career, the Floridian quintet have never sounded so vital, the album building upon the wealth of powerful, dark, and memorable songs comprising 2006’s Kill and 2009’s Evisceration Plague and pointedly upping the ante at every turn.
The record landed the band at #38 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart upon its first week of release, making it the highest debut in CANNIBAL CORPSE history!Torture landed at #7 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart, #4 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums chart and #32 Billboard Top Current Albums Chart. Produced by Hate Eternal’s Erik Rutan, Torture continues to reap critical accolades from critics and fans around the globe and is yet another testament to CANNIBAL CORPSE‘s permanent allegiance to shrewdly arranged, pile-driving Death Metal madness.

Death Metal legends SIX FEET UNDER will be embarking on a headlining tour this Fall. The Chris-Barnes-named Autumn Apocalypse Tour will include label mates CATTLE DECAPITATION as well as Death Metal newcomers, Wretched. The journey will commence on October 30 and run through the first half of November, with the full routing available below.
Chris Barnes
Led by the inimitable Chris Barnes, possessor of one of the most dominant and instantly recognizable voices of the Death Metal genre, SIX FEET UNDER now features new guitarist Ola Englund, longtime guitarist SteveSwanson, new bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Kevin Talley, whose history blasting for Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and Chimaira speaks for itself. SIX FEET UNDER 2012 finds the band reinvigorated and churning out some of the most visceral, in-your-face, and downright horrifying tunes in their renowned discography of brutality both lyrically and musically.
Said Decibel Magazine off the band’s recently-unleashed Undead full-length: “This is the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence… [Chris Barnes] hasn’t sounded this focused or committed in years.” Listen and order at:
CATTLE DECAPITATION‘s 11-track album, Monolith Of Inhumanity, is an achievement that stands out as one of the most volatile, ambitious, and impossible-to-pigeonhole records of 2012. Commended by Stereokiller for being “their most focused and intelligent album yet… this is another solid CATTLE DECAP release that proves again that they are not to be fucked with,” and noted for being “arguably the quartet’s strongest effort to date,” by Blistering, the record was produced by Dave Otero of Denver’s Flatline Audio and finds the progressive grind conjurers exploring innovative new techniques in song writing without abandoning their signature formula of confrontational audio wreckage. Be sure to check out the band’s latest video for “Kingdom Of Tyrants” HERE.

Killswitch Engage will be headlining the upcoming California Metalfest. It’s a special gig for the Grammy-nominated, Massachusetts Metal band, long considered one of the forebears of the Metal resurgence of the ’00s, as they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their landmark release, 2002’s genre-defining Alive or JustBreathing. To commemorate the album, KSE will play the album in its entirety, from start to finish, as well as other more recent hits.
The much-anticipated sixth annual California Metalfest will be held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday, November 24th. Ash Avildsen, founder of California Metalfest had this to say:
“Alive or Just Breathing is one of the most important and timeless albums for this era of heavy music. KsE’s special headlining set combined with the rest of the line-up is going to make for an incredible day of metal and memories. Having all these bands in the same place on one day is really exciting both as a fan and as a festival producer.”
Killswitch Engage
WWE Superstar “Mankind” Mick Foley will be hosting the festival along with several other stars TBA who will be doing signings and appearances. There will also be many carnival style prize games where fans can win special, limited edition band merch and memorabilia instead of stuffed animals. Special pre-sale ticketing packages will be available exclusively through www.soundcheckhollywood.com starting Sept. 8th with general on-sale ticketing being available starting Sept. 13th. This is easily the most exciting and talent rich line-up to come together in years and it’s going to be a night that will go down in history. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this.
The stellar line-up also features Asking Alexandria, As I Lay Dying, Black Veil Brides, Pierce The Veil, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Chiodos w/Craig Owens, For Today, Suicide Silence, Memphis May Fire, Blessthefall, Unearth, Bleeding Through, The Faceless, Born Of Osiris, Winds Of Plague, Shadows Fall, Veil of Maya, Acacia Strain, Attila, Sleeping Giant, Upon A Burning Body among a slew of others. Big Dad Ritch is the lead singer and founding member of Texas Hippie Coalition, aka THC. Red Dirt Metal is what THC plays, with a reverent nod of influence to Country Music’s most famous outlaws to the late Dimebag, with Black Label Society and Lynyrd Skynyrd in between. Texas Hippie Coalition’s Southern Hard Rock ‘N Metal is as American as corn dogs washed down with (plenty of) Shiner Bock beer.
This badass band from Texas aren’t about kowtowing to the mainstream or the man sitting high-up inside some ivory tower. Hell no. This is Texas Hippie Coalition and they aren’t about being a band for the ages, they’re a band for the people, in my forthright opinion. With 2010’s Rollin’, their newly released Peacemaker (Carved Records), coupled with a notable live presence from clubs to festivals, Texas Hippie Coalition have earned a continuously growing fan base that knows real when they hear and see it.
They’re skilled musicians that are loud, proud, hard and heavy as hell with contagious American Southern pride. Texas Hippie Coalition are: bassist John Exall, guitarist Wes Wallace, drummer Timmy Braun and of course, Big Dad Ritch and his earth splitting vocals. Big Dad Ritch took the time recently to answer more than several questions that I tossed his way. As this being my second (appreciative) encounter with Big Dad Ritch, I can honestly say he is as genuine, kind, professional and badass as they come. Metal be thy name. There is and forever will be only one Big Dad Ritch. Here is what he had to say:
Stone: I know I absolutely love your new album Peacemaker. The fans and critics have spoken and this album is a winner! Can you put into words just how rewarding all of this widespread acceptance feels to you?
Big Dad Ritch: Feels like a backyard friends n family Bar-BQ, with all the fixuns n pecan pie.
Stone: What is the secret behind the muscularity that Peacemaker represents musically and lyrically?
Big Dad Ritch: Just being proud of being BADASS. If u were a rodeo stock bull would you want to be the ol’ piece of beef every sod buster rode for a short 8 seconds or the Horned Monster Bull that punished every belt buckle chasing cowboy for a long 2 second ride. Dare to be BADASS.
Stone: Your vocals are so powerful! Are there any steps you swear by in keeping your voice so healthy and strong?
Big Dad Ritch: Never drink or smoke… I’m lyin!
Stone: Yes, Big Dad Ritch, you’ve proven that you can sing a ballad! What’s the story behind the creation of “Think Of Me”?
Big Dad Ritch: I wrote that song on Valentines Day, like most Valentines Days I spent it with the love of my life – music. I think people will say a song like this is dated or that it shows a softer side. Yet, in my opinion, I believe to write a song like this in this day and age only shows that this band has balls, BIG BALLS.
Stone: What came easy and what was difficult about recording Peacemaker?
Big Dad Ritch: Music and words flow thru those that participated on this album, the task seemed so easy at times. Difficult part was deciding what 11 songs of the 14 to put on the album. My stance was like that of Sweden. I held the money while they argued.
Stone: THC will be opening for the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd on select dates this September. Describe the thrill you are feeling about this and don’t hold back!
Big Dad Ritch: WhooHooo, yipp, yip, yippy, yeehaw!!! Hyeah! Raise Hell! Sorry, got a lil carried away there. See, couple years back I started tellin people THC would open for BLS (Black Label Society) very soon. At the time an untruth. People on fb started connecting dots comments like “I would pay to see that show”. Next thing I know, were on half a dozen BLS shows. So I started fibbin, again fibbin is almost a lie. Tellin everyone we were gonna open for Lynyrd Skynyrd, at the time not true. Yet here we are today talkin about the Skynyrd n THC show. So what I’m trying to tellya is I never lie, and soon we will be touring with Willie Nelson n Judas Priest… I’m lyin. This show with Shooter Jennings on the line up as well is proof there is a Southern Uprising!
Take a look and listen below to the Official Video for Turn It Up!
Stone: I look at the band photos, listen to the songs and watch the video footage of THC and the feeling of brotherhood hits me like a ton of beer kegs! How important is this brotherhood toward your band’s success?
Big Dad Ritch: Texas Hippie Coalition. Texas = Proud of where we come from, which everyone should be. Hippie = that’s the way my mom n dad raised me, TRIBAL. Coalition = Because we are more than just 4 men, we are many, we are chapters nationwide, we are chapters world-wide, we are fans around the globe, we are men that would be kings, we are twisted hippie chicks, we are FAMILY MEMBERS, we are all together under one flag that we wave HIGH n MIGHTY, we are COALITION.
Stone: Many bands pigeonhole themselves into one “select” genre. With THC, you guys can reach out to many Rock genres with your sound and style. Would I be wrong to call THC “the band for the people”?
Big Dad Ritch: The PEOPLE’S CHAMP, love it. Red Dirt Metal, Southern Fried Rock. It’s all good.
Stone: As THC creates their own hard-earned success, do you ever have time to take it all in?
Big Dad Ritch: Yes I do inhale. What was the question?
Stone: You tour the country and witness many things on the road. Is American pride still alive and well or is there a sense of division among us as a nation?
Big Dad Ritch: There is an immense amount of pride nation wide, but I do believe people are starting to place more faith in their neighbor than in their government. US definitely still applies in my eyes.
Stone: If Big Dad Ritch could sit by the river with a legend of Rock, either past or present, to share some booze, stories and barbecue with, who would it be and why?
Big Dad Ritch: Tuff one, I always aspire to be what I have grown to refer to as “1 man empire”. The likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon or Willie, or modern-day Rob Zombie, Zakk Wylde, or Vinnie Paul. To achieve things in and out of the world of music. Hoping in someway one day to grow up and be an OZZY. Sorry mom. So to pick from all of these would be hard. So I would say this I would pick “Dime Bag” just so I could tell him what he has meant to generations of fans and how much he has influenced me and many others. I would even drink one of those horrible black tooths.
THANK YOU, Big Dad Ritch for this interview! Thank you for creating such memorable Red Dirt Metal with your band! I am so happy for you and the band and wish only the very best for Texas Hippie Coalition both off and on stage.
Until the next time, your brother in Rock ‘N Metal –
Stone \m/\m/
