KYLESA LAUNCH RETRO FUTURIST RECORDS

INAUGURAL RELEASE THIS JANUARY FROM CANADIAN TRIO SIERRA

Dec. 11, 2013, Savannah, GA – Kylesa (Phillip Cope, Laura Pleasants and Carl McGinley II) launch Retro Futurist Records in January with the Jan. 28th release of Canadian prog trio Sierra’s album Pslip.

“The idea behind Retro Futurist Records is to provide an artist-friendly home to bands we like and bands we feel are relevant in aesthetic, sound, concept and/or ethics,” explained Pleasants.Dec. 11, 2013, Savannah, GA – Kylesa (Phillip Cope, Laura Pleasants and Carl McGinley II) launch Retro Futurist Records in January, with the Jan. 28th release of Canadian prog trio Sierra’s album Pslip.

The first release to come from the Savannah-based label is a vinyl release of Sierra’s debut album Pslip. The Kitchener prog trio will join Kylesa for a leg of the band’s European tour (Jan. 19 to Feb. 2). Pslip was produced by Cope and recently described by Caught in the Carousel as “so wrought with high-octane power, crunching riffs, catchy melodies, and good old-fashioned rock and roll that you’ll want to hear it over and over again.”

Retro Futurist is offering music lovers a six-month vinyl subscription series, which includes Sierra’s aforementioned release as well as original albums from Jagged Vision, Darkentries, Wet Socks as well as subscriber only collectibles including a Kylesa 7” (hand-printed and numbered), a Retro Futurist t-shirt by Santos as well as a mystery 7”. Dec. 9, 2013, San Francisco – The Unsemble, a new trio from members of Tomahawk, Einstürzende Neubaten and the Silver Jews, issue their self-titled debut album on March 3 via Ipecac Recordings.

“We wanted to work on something that was typically not what we do,” Denison, explained in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone. “Something that’s not so rock and riff-based and overdriven in that way.”

The Unsemble, a 15-song collection recorded in Denison’s adopted hometown of Nashville, meets the legendary Jesus Lizard guitar player’s hopes of a more organic feel with the band effortlessly volleying between careful compositions and improvisation. The result is an album that is experimental, clever and inclusive of numerous subgenres and cultures.

When Rock legend DORO celebrates her big anniversaries, she will traditionally welcome several true heroes of the Rock and Metal scene. The SCORPIONS, MOTÖRHEAD or SAXON, all of them have been on stage with DORO in front of thousands of fans.

And this will also be the case for her 30-years stage anniversary. DORO will be playing two shows on May 02 and May 03, 2014 at CCD-Stadthalle, where her fans can look forward to seeing many superstars.

Hansi Kürsch of BLIND GUARDIAN has already confirmed his appearance. As of today it is also confirmed that Miland “Mille” Petrozza of KREATOR and Udo Dirkschneider, the former ACCEPT shouter, will come to Düsseldorf to celebrate DORO’s anniversary together with her.

Udo on this: “Of course! For DORO I will always be up front. Actually I was planning on being part of her show in Wacken this summer, but I could not make that date.” Thus there will be a return visit on May 02 and May 03, 2014 – as DORO has been sharing stages with Dirkschneider and his band U.D.O. at their stage anniversary in 2012.

“I have the most awesome friends and colleagues,” DORO bursts out about the Teutonic trio. With this, the guest list for the celebratory events won’t be closed.

DORO fans that can hardly wait till May 2014 have the chance to see the Metal queen this very year. The DORO Christmas tour starts on December 14, 2013 and will feature the following dates:

STONEBURNER – Portland Sludge Metallers Join The Neurot Recordings Family

The Neurot Recordings family is pleased to welcome the audio devastation that is Portland’s STONEBURNER to their expanding roster of forward-thinking music.

Featuring four members with a compelling musical ancestry that winds through Buried At Sea, Buried Blood, Heathen Shrine and more, STONEBURNER – named after a subterranean weapon from the novel Dune — spews forth a groin-churning orchestration of crust-strewn, hypnotic, sludge metal, their torrid odes glazed with pain and distress. The band will unleash the follow-up to their 2012 debut full-length, Sickness Will Pass, which The Sludgelord fittingly crowned, “an ugly, visceral and truly terrifying beast of an album,” via Neurot Recordings this Spring. Titled Life Drawing, the offering promises to take their sonic crush to entirely new levels of heaviness.

With a long history, the band is particularly known for the technical and versatile guitar work of founding member Steve Kachinsky Blakmoor. ANETTE OLZON – Former Nightwish Frontwoman To Release First Solo Album Next Year, Via Armoury Records

It is with great pleasure that Armoury Records, in conjunction with earMUSIC, welcomes ANETTE OLZON to their expanding roster of powerful frontwomen.

Best known for her time fronting symphonic metal brigade Nightwish for five years before fleeing the band in 2012, the Swedish born songstress has established herself as a true apex among female rock singers globally and will continue the trend with her forthcoming solo release entitled Shine. Produced by Stefan Örn and Johan Glössner, co-produced by OLZON alongside Johan Kronlund and mixed by Kronlund, Nicklas Flykt and Ronny Lahti (known for his work with Loreen and Roxette), Shine is a logical next step in OLZON’s flourishing musical journey.

“I am so thrilled to finally release my first solo album,” comments OLZON. “I’ve been working on it for a long time. The album is very personal with songs I’ve been writing since 2009 but there are also very recent songs. The overall message of the album is that life can be really dark and filled with hardship and sadness, but you can always choose to see some light coming through, to make you stronger and full of life, making you shine… no matter what.”

EMBLAZONED – Wisconsin Blackened Death Metal Machine Enters Studio

Wisconsin Blackened Death Metal machine EMBLAZONED has returned to Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisc., to record the band’s as-of-yet untitled full-length album. The album will be the follow-up to the critically acclaimed EP, The Living Magisterium, which was released September 3 via Deepsend Records.

Tracking for the album is almost complete, with mixing and mastering getting underway next month. Production duties are being handled by Chris Wisco (Jungle Rot, Gorgasm, Nachtmystium, Broken Hope). Comatose Music has announced the February 4 release of Violence and the Macabre from Philippine Brutal Death Metallers DOWN FROM THE WOUND. After signing with Comatose in October 2012, DOWN FROM THE WOUND went to work on the follow-up to their 2007 debut, Agony Through Rituals of Self Purification. The results see the band return with 50 minutes of flesh-shredding Southeast-Asian brutality with old-school atmosphere and organic production.

DOWN FROM THE WOUND are no strangers to the death metal scene; they have been punishing eardrums since 2002 with their nasty combination of inhuman breakdowns and technical riffing reminiscent of bands like DISGORGE, GORGASM and LUST OF DECAY. On February 4 violence will prevail.

The newest band ready to take aim at the creative void in the hard rock world, Red Dragon Cartel, are set to release their debut album via Frontiers Records. The self-titled debut by the band, made up of guitar legend Jake E. Lee, bassist Ronnie Mancuso, singer D.J. Smith and drummer Jonas Fairley is set for release on January 28th. Jake E. Lee is best known for his work in Badlands and as guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne on Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin albums.

Red Dragon Cartel also features various guest appearances from some of music’s most notable faces, including legendary Cheap Trick vocalist Robin Zander, original Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno, Kill Devil Hill/Pantera bassist Rex Brown, Slash’s Conspirators Todd Kearns and Brent Fitz and In This Moment front woman Maria Brink. The album was produced by Ronnie Mancuso and Jake E. Lee and was executive produced, mixed and mastered by Kevin Churko (In This Moment, Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch).

From the opening riff of “Deceived” to final sustained piano chord of “Exquisite Tenderness,” it is clear Red Dragon Cartel has created an album that stands amongst some of the greatest hard rock albums of all time. Infectious songs such as “Shout It Out,” “Wasted” and “Slave” showcase the band’s ability to write memorable hooks and vocal melodies. Robin Zander of Cheap Trick lends his voice to the track “Feeder.” Maria Brink of In This Moment lends her unique vocals to the track “Big Mouth.” Paul Di’Anno and Sass Jordan also lend their talents to the band’s debut.
