Morfin - Inoculation - promo cover pic - 2013

From the depths of Californian crypts, FDA Rekotz presents bone-breaking Death Metal act MORFIN and their debut album, Inoculation. Comprised of 10 classically-inspired death metal hymns – including a surprise cover tune – Inoculation crushes faces in the vein of early Death, Gorguts and Skeletal Remains. The album was recorded at Executer Studio in Pico Rivera, Calif., (Skeletal Remains), with artwork by Badic Art (Skeletal Remains, Goregast, Demonical, Dehuman Reign).

Inoculation is set for a February 21 release on CD, vinyl and digital formats. The vinyl LP will be offered on red/black marbled (100 copies only) or standard black vinyl. Pre-orders are being taken now at this location.

Check out album track “Dark Creator” below:

Rising from the influences of Heavy Metal, MORFIN is a Metal band, delineating the negativity present in the world, in life, and the future that is caused by the evil, veracity, domination and deception that drives the human race. Delivering the message with their music to prepare for what lies ahead…..

Compiling My 2013 Best Metal Albums List Has Put Me In A Metal Quandary!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 28, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Carcass - Surgical Steel - promo cover pic

CARCASS – Surgical Steel

For the past month, I’ve been listening to, re-listening to and debating over which albums will make my “Best Metal Albums Of 2013” list. For clear reasons (to me) this year marks the most difficult time I’ve ever encountered, in compiling this list. I’m in a quandary!! Someone call Dr. Phil or better yet, someone call Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Carcass, Sodom, Stryper, Satyricon and Satan and tell them ALL they should have never released such amazing milestone Metal albums; especially ALL at once this past year! Um, please, no one tell them that.

Throw in the fact that Witch Cross and Sinister Realm are in the mix with spellbound like True Metal releases in 2013 and I’m on my knees begging for the Metal Gods to help me sort it all out!! Which band’s album gets #1 and why? Which band’s album comes in last on my best of list and for what reason? Rankings super SUCK and I have the urge right now to eat a case of Doritos. Can anyone please kick me in the ass and tell me to stop!?

Motorhead - Aftershock - promo cover pic

Motörhead – Aftershock

Adding to this quandary, is: I believe that any album that makes any “Best Of” album list of mine, equates to either an instant classic or soon to be classic, within our beloved pages of Metal History; at least my pages of Metal History! All of this self-debate and (at times) self-doubt over which best Metal albums I’ve listened to over the year is very important to me. I need a very cold beer right now, from my very cold garage.

Stay tuned. My Metal list will be done eventually. Stone will come through. Hell, my “Best Hard Rock Albums Of 2013” list is already secured in my brain. For some crazy reason, the Hard Rock albums list never drove me even remotely insane. My “Top Ten Songs Of 2013” list went down easier than a Yuengling lager. Go figure. Best Metal Buddy, Scott Coverdale, already has his Best list done and ready to go. I know he struggled with it, though. Ha, ha. Still, he’s the best.

I gather it’s time for me to stop whining and get back to my Metal debate with myself. Once this fun task is complete, I can then begin to listen to what 2014 has in store for my Metal hunger… and look forward to another quandary such as this in a year from now. Metal be thy name.

Due to a line-up issue (specifically, no chance for the band to find a replacement drummer in time for MDF), WITCHRIST will not be performing at MDF XII.

Also, we can now announce that PSEUDOGOD (Russia) have been confirmed to appear at MDF XII. They will be playing on Sunday at the Edison Lot. We will not be announcing anymore bands for any of the venues.

DARK FOREST – “The Awakening” Coming March 11, On Cruz Del Sur Music

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , on December 27, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Dark Forest - The Awakening - promo cover pic - 2014

UK-based traditional metallers DARK FOREST are set to return with their anticipated third long-player, The Awakening. The album has been slated for North American release on March 11 via Cruz Del Sur Music.

DARK FOREST was forged in the Black Country, England by guitarist Christian Horton. For just over a decade they have been delivering their uniquely rousing, defiant heavy metal to the world. With the release of their self-made EPs in 2007, the band quickly gained the attention and support of the heavy metal underground, both in England and abroad, and then went from strength to strength, gigging across Europe and the UK and releasing their self titled debut album in 2009, then Dawn of Infinity in 2011.

In 2012 DARK FOREST recruited the outstanding vocalist Josh Winnard as their new front man and shortly afterwards also gained the incredible talents of guitarist Pat Jenkins. With this new line up, the band immediately began writing fresh material and entered the recording studio in June 2013 to produce their third album The Awakening.

Dark Forest - promo band pic - #193 - 2013

The album is recorded in 444hz instead of the standardized 440hz tuning. The decision was based by studying the lost “Solfeggio frequencies”, original sound frequencies which were apparently used in Ancient Gregorian Chants and were believed to impart “spiritual blessings when sung in harmony”* and also by studying the nefarious origins of 440hz. Tuning to 444hz corresponds to a “C” of 528hz on the Solfeggio Frequency Scale, the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair broken DNA.  This frequency is also believed to encourage “Transformation and Miracles.”

DARK FOREST’s innate sense of melody remains intact on The Awakening, as well as the band’s trademarked epic twin-guitar dueling, but this time the album is permeated by a general sense of oppression and sorrow and sounds much more reflective than their previous works. Not by coincidence, The Awakening opens with the ending lines of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem ” The Mask of Anarchy” and ends with the anthem “Sons of England”.

The awakening must be both spiritual and intellectual and through the rediscovery of our roots and a connection to nature, must lead all humanity to remember the truth – that we are infinite consciousness and we are one. This is the realization that will defeat the global control system of the elite and set humanity free.

FALLEN FATE – Announce New Album ‘Into The Black’

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on December 23, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Fallen Fate - promo band pic - #669 - 2013

North East England’s purveyors of modern metal FALLEN FATE have announced an upcoming full album release. After storming the UK in 2011 with ‘The Virus Has Spread’ the band is back, has regrouped and is ready to utterly waste with new release ‘Into the Black’.

Recorded in part in Stymphalian Productions in York with producer James Stephenson and finished in vocalist Lee Skinner’s home studio, ‘Into the Black’ retains the Fallen Fate’s signature punishing heaviness but it’s also apparent that the band has moved on musically since ‘The Virus Has Spread’.

Comments Lee Skinner, ‘Dark, Expressive and Heavy…The sound and feel of Fallen Fate has changed quite a bit since the release of ‘The Virus Has Spread’. The band has progressed and developed a more solid metal sound while maintaining a unique mix of speed and heaviness in the music.’

Fallen Fate - Into The Dark - promo cover pic - 2013

INTO THE BLACK – Track Listing:

1. The Rise (Intro)

2. Blackened Within

3. Until The Final Hour

4. Into The Black

5. Possession

6. I Welcome The Dead

7. Rituals

8. Last Rites

9. The Demise (Intro)

10. Vespa

‘Based on a horror movie theme around a young girl called Vespa, the concept of ‘Into The Black’ plays a big part in how the album sounds and how it is visually portrayed through the artwork and upcoming videos. It contributed to the evolving sound of the band as we introduced more keyboards and experimental sounds into the mix, giving it a different dark feel and sound.’

Talking further about the concept of the album Skinner elaborates, ‘She [Vespa] chose a life without faith and over time became possessed by a demon. The demon slowly took over her body and ultimately lead her to kill herself and her family. The drive behind the concept is to empower the listener to decide whether she was possessed by the Devil, as she has no saviour in her life, or if she was possessed by God, punishing her for her lack of faith.’

The artwork designed by both Photographer Ian Cameron and Skinner through his own Black Venom Designs compliments the album’s running theme.

Supported by a release show in The Forum, Darlington, the album is set for release January 30th 2014.

The band’s debut EP “THE BIRTH OF THUNDER” was mixed and produced by the Wieslawscy Bros from HERTZ STUDIO (BEHEMOTH, VADER, DECAPITATED). Their logo was designed by Christophe Szpajdel (EMPEROR, MOONSPELL, DESASTER) and the cover artwork of “The Birth of Thunder” EP was created by Mario Lopez.

Cruz Del Sur Music is proud to announce another prestigious addition to its roster, occult metal unit VESTAL CLARET!

Are you ready for the ritual to begin? You better go sharpen your krises!

The band’s first release with Cruz Del Sur Music, The Cult of the Vestal Claret, is the follow-up to their 2011 debut, Bloodbath and will see the light of day in April 2014. The album will be available on CD, digital and vinyl formats.

STONEBURNER – Portland Sludge Metallers Join The Neurot Recordings Family

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on December 7, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Stoneburner - promo band pic - #12 - 2013

The Neurot Recordings family is pleased to welcome the audio devastation that is Portland’s STONEBURNER to their expanding roster of forward-thinking music.

Featuring four members with a compelling musical ancestry that winds through Buried At Sea, Buried Blood, Heathen Shrine and more, STONEBURNER – named after a subterranean weapon from the novel Dune — spews forth a groin-churning orchestration of crust-strewn, hypnotic, sludge metal, their torrid odes glazed with pain and distress. The band will unleash the follow-up to their 2012 debut full-length, Sickness Will Pass, which The Sludgelord fittingly crowned, “an ugly, visceral and truly terrifying beast of an album,” via Neurot Recordings this Spring. Titled Life Drawing, the offering promises to take their sonic crush to entirely new levels of heaviness.

Notes the STONEBURNER collective on their union with Neurot: “We’ve been working on the material for this album for a long time now and couldn’t feel better about how it’s come together. We’re humbled and honored that Neurot have asked to be involved. Since the band formed, we’ve always done our best to work with people we respect and know personally, signing to Neurot is an extension of that…another step in combining our personal and musical lives and bringing it all full circle.”

STONEBURNER was spawned in early 2008 though the bands’ familial roots reach back two decades. To describe STONEBURNER‘s music one need only look to the list of bands with whom they’ve shared the stage: Yob, Sleep, Eyehategod, Neurosis, Buzzov-en, Weedeater, Saint Vitus, Watain, Tragedy, Noothgrush, Graves At Sea, Lord Dying, Drop Dead, Whitehorse, Wind Hand, Bastard Noise and so on. For STONEBURNER, it’s all about domination through amplification and soul-cleansing catharsis.

STONEBURNER Personnel:

Elijah Boland – guitar

Jason Depew – guitar

Damon Kelly – bass/vocals

Jesse McKinnon – drums/vocals

Further STONEBURNER intel, including Life Drawing release date and track listing, to be announced in the coming weeks.

Each title will feature the original album artwork including reproductions of the original 12X12 inner sleeves. For the first U.S. run, 500 unmarked copies will be pressed on 180-gram, blood-red, colored vinyl and randomly inserted and sold in stores as part of a “lucky dip.”

As American Recordings’ owner and long-time Slayer producer Rick Rubin put it, “Slayer defines speed metal and these albums define Slayer. Listen at your own risk.”

NIGROMANTE – Spanish Heavy Metal Act To Release “Black Magic Night” On January 7th, Via Shadow Kingdom Records

Shadow Kingdom Records is proud to introduce NIGROMANTE! The Classic Heavy Metal Spaniards will release Black Magic Night through Shadow Kingdom on January 7.

SKR Commander Tim McGrogran had this to say about the band and album:

“They’ve been around since 2003 trying to perfect their Heavy Metal sound. Spain hasn’t exactly been a melting pot for Classic Heavy Metal, so we’re very lucky to find such a great band there. NIGROMANTE are the big fish in the small pond over there. They are from Spain, but they’re absolutely influenced by the N.W.O.B.H.M. and 80’s US Metal. The vocals are more barbaric, very much like Portugal’s IRONSWORD. The guitar tone on this album is so thick and abrasive, which creates a great heavy metal pounding atmosphere. The songs are well crafted and extremely catchy. They have so many influences from ANVIL, MOTORHEAD, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, a tinge of old 80’s Black Metal, and many more.”

Below, is the lyric video for the track Heavy Metal Age:

TRUCKFIGHTERS – Swedish Fuzz Rockers Unleash Live Track From New EP

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on November 22, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Truckfigters - the chairman - ep - promo cover pic - 2013

In celebration of the release The Chairman Special Edition EP from Swedish fuzz rock contingent, TRUCKFIGHTERS, today the gatekeepers at Blow the Scene offer up a stream of “Monte Gargano” alongside a killer photo set of the band demolishing Philadelphia last August, courtesy of Useless Rebel Imaging.

Rock out with your blocks out at THIS LOCATION.

To hear TRUCKFIGHTERS is to hear the sounds of the desert; it’s in their wide open expanses, grand open grooves and dust-caked metal riffs. Falling somewhere between Fu Manchu and Queens Of The Stone Age, TRUCKFIGHTERS are a band bred on the California badlands, on sprawling vistas and parched wilderness. The dynamic trio however hails from Örebro. Unafraid to plough their own furrow, TRUCKFIGHTERS have forged ahead and spend months on the road touring the world.

Closing in on four-hundred gigs across four continents (Europe, Australia, South America and North America), being in front of crowds, sweat-sodden and crazed is where they are happiest. Commended by Terrorizer for, “putting more rock energy into a single performance than a good proportion of bands do into a career’s worth of shows…,” a TRUCKFIGHTERS performance is a wild, free-form, charged affair.

Truckfighters - band logo - yellow & black - 2013

With that in mind, Last Hurrah Records brings fans The Chairman Special Edition EP. Delivering over thirty minutes of pure power fuzz, the EP features the title track (“The Chairman,” to be featured on the band’s forthcoming 2014 full-length) plus three live tunes – “Desert Cruiser,” “Monte Gangano,” and “Traffic” – all recorded while on tour in Australia. Presented at 45 RPM for best sound quality on a multi-colored vinyl 12-inch, The Chairman Special Edition EP comes in a full-color sleeve and jacket limited to 500 copies worldwide and only available from Last Hurrah Records. The jacket cover artwork has spot UV gloss, spot PMS, and silver metallic ink designed by artist Lindsey Kuhn and comes in two different vinyl colors: Desert Sunset and Desert Sunrise, each a mix of opaque and translucent colors (250 of each color).

Order your copy of The Chairman Special EP courtesy of Last Hurrah Records at THIS LOCATION!

 Critical Praise:

“TRUCKFIGHTERS blast your ears with their unique take on modern rock.” – Metal Hammer

“…The power and charm to make society grind to a halt…” – Kerrang!!!
