LIZZY BORDEN – Co-Headlining At Kavarna Rock Festival, July 15th, 2012

The legendary LIZZY BORDEN will be co-headlining at the Kavarna Rock Festival in Kavarna, Bulgaria on July 15th. Stryper will be co-headling on July 14th. The ever legendary Michael Schenker is scheduled for July 13th. Whoa! These three days look like they’re gonna ROCK!

I’m guessed at the spelling of Glen Hughez. Is it supposed to be the iconic Glenn Hughes? Maybe that is how the name is spelled in Bulgaria? Could it be a Glenn Hughes “All-Star” Tribute Band? I just don’t know.

Whoever is going to this very cool festival, have a kick-ass Rockin’ time! Metal be thy name.

18 Nights Of Blood Tour To Commence Next Week

___________________________

Undead, the latest installment of audio brutality from Death Metal deviants SIX FEET UNDER, entered the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #5 upon its first week of release! In addition, Undead landed at at #30 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart, #22 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums Chart, #14 Billboard Top Current Albums Chart and #183 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.

In Canada, the record ranked in at #34 on the Hard Music Chart, #199 on the Top 200 Current Albums Chart, #167 on the iTunes Top 200 Chart, #35 on the iTunes Rock Chart and #3 on the iTunes Metal Chart. Undead reaped additional praise in Germany entering the German Media Market/Saturn Album Charts at #56 and the German Media Control Trend Charts at #40.

Comments vocalist/Death Metal maverick Chris Barnes: “Thank you to all of our fans for embracing our new album Undead with such ravenous fervor! And to all at Metal Blade Records for their belief in the band all these years and all the hard work of everyone at the label! This marks the first time in SIX FEET UNDER’s career, as well as my own, that we have reached Billboard’s Top 200. It is proof positive that underground music and Death Metal is not dead and is still a force to be dealt with. A very special thanks to the decades of hate that spawned the focus that went into this album. Cheers! It’s 4:20, motherfucker!”

Chris Barnes (Vocalist, Founding Member)

Crowned “the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence,” by Decibel, “an album on which this new level of musicianship adds value without tarnishing SIX FEET UNDER’s legacy of brutality,” by Outburn and simply a “kickass SIX FEET UNDER record,” by Revolver,

Undead was unleashed to North American ears via Metal Blade on May 22 and offers an updated lineup of Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira).

In conjunction with the record’s release, SIX FEET UNDER will embark on a near three-week run of live ceremonies next week. The 18 Nights Of Blood Tour will begin in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8. The band will be joined by newly recruited rhythm guitarist Ola Englund who takes the place of Rob Arnold. Support will be provided by Dying Fetus and Revocation.

ALARIC / ATRIARCH Split LP – A Double Dose Of Spine-Chilling Heaviness You Can’t Overlook

Posted in Extreme Metal, extreme music, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on May 30, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

ALARIC/ATRIARCH – This split LP of Alaric/Atriarch was released on May 15th, 2012, via 20 Buck Spin. This album serves as a Metal appetizer for fans of both bands; while new studio albums from Alaric/Atriarch are being recorded for release later in 2012. This split LP has been my introduction to both bands, here are my Metal thoughts:

Oakland California’s Alaric is an Anarcho Death Rock experience to hear. They blend Doom and Stoner vibes with an endless supply of thumping and haunting beats. Picture the scene: Hard Rock with lot’s of foreboding swirling around. Alaric isn’t bashful about being creative with their overall sound, lending guitar parts and vocals that would make perfect sense on many 80’s New Wave songs. Don’t be fooled however, cause these same guitar parts and vocals sound exceptionally terrific and gives this band a unique identity on Memory Assault, So Far Down and Weep.

A heavy band that considers melodies and being memorable is Alaric. The overall feel and vibe I walk away with, after listening to these three Alaric songs, is that this band took the “college Alternative” sound from the late 80’s and early nineties and turned it into a melancholy heaviness of their own; a Death Rockin’ style of heaviness that makes good damn sense to my ears. Alaric has sold me on their style of Rock and I will be listening to them a great deal more now.

____________________________

Portland Oregon’s Atriarch is a Blackened Death/Doom band which spells: Delectable Metal. A cool listen are both songs (Oblivion, Offerings) and they serve up what’s to be expected from a band of this genre. Oblivion didn”t play out as extreme as I had anticipated and I still appreciated it nonetheless. The vocals on Oblivion include an intermittent spoken word which easily adds style points to the creep-out meter.

Offerings begins with an eerie and distant-like guitar, shredding about its sonic wall of inviting blackness, an intro that I gleefully welcomed with open ears. Offerings builds itself up to an Extreme tempo with matching vocals; a nightmarish sounding song and that is a sincere Metal compliment to this band. Metal be thy name.

The intense artistic talent of Bryan Proteau created the album cover artwork.

ALARIC/ATRIARCH Split LP – Track Listing:

Side A (ALARIC):

So Far Down

Side B (ATRIARCH):

ADRENALINE MOB “Omertà” – 5 Quick Reasons To Buy This Album

Posted in album reviews, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on May 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

ADRENALINE MOB – After repeatedly listening to Omertà, the debut album from supergroup Adrenaline Mob; I’ve come to the Metal conclusion; that there is a life after Dream Theater for founding member/drummer Mike Portnoy after all. I’ll add that Mike Portnoy sounds like a drummer unleashed upon his drum kit with a Metal mission to raise some hell and fun.

I get psyched-out by listening to Omertà and can’t resist this band’s full-throttle approach to playing at such a kick-ass level of excitement. Below are my 5 reasons to buy this intense album of Heavy Metal.

01Mike Portnoy ignites Omertà with his drumming! Those fills! A top ten drummer in the world and no one can tell me any different. ‘Nuff said.

02Russell Allen – A premiere Heavy Rock vocalist is Russell and he comes across as commanding as ever on this album. Russell flexes his muscular vocals on Undaunted, Believe MePsychosane, Feelin’ MeAll On The Line and Indifferent with an intensity that can only be marveled by my ears. Yes, Russell’s range is showcased throughout Omertà and he sings with an iron fist, no doubt about it.

03Mike Orlando plays guitars and bass on Omertà and has given these songs their unreal and memorable melodic moments. Mike shreds, entertains and soars throughout all 11 songs. His Groove Metal style is a thunder strike on this album and he is a consummate player. One listen to Omertà and my Metal brethren should hopefully agree… Mike Orlando is versed in Metal history. Hit The Wall is a grand sonic showcase for Mike Orlando; among many I’ve enjoyed on Omertà.

04Come Undone. This 1993 Duran Duran classic is turned into Heavy Metal gold by Adrenaline Mob. Whoa. Yes, Adrenaline Mob made Come Undone their very Metal own; they took the psyche-you-out key and turned the Metal ignition onto overdrive with their cover of this song. Lzzy Hale of Halestorm lends her dazzling vocals to Come Undone and it’s the lightning strike that puts this song right over-the-top. Chills city my Metal brethren… chills city.

05The Vibes – Adrenaline Mob raided some Metal vibe warehouse somewhere and ran off with the entire F’n inventory. This album is so power-packed with Metal vibes, beats and grooves that it has knocked me Metal senseless. Omertà is easily a required Metal album to own; it’s also a blazing comet of Metal whoop ass that I never want to get out-of-the-way from. Metal be thy name.

Omertà was released on March 13th, 2012, via Elm City Music.

Omertà – Track Listing:

Undaunted

Psychosane

Indifferent

All On The Line

Hit The Wall

Feelin’ Me

Come Undone

Believe Me

Down To The Floor

Angel Sky

Massacre Records:

We’re delighted to welcome SOUL SACRIFICE from Istanbul to our family!

The band was formed in 1997 by the two guitarists Maksim and Feyzi.
Maksim also did the vocals in the early days of the band, before he was replaced as vocalist by Baris in 1999. In 2001, Sevan (former bassist) and Cagri (former drummer) joined the band. The band recorded their first demo, “A Gift From An Angel”. But the line-up shouldn’t last forever. In 2003 Onur (drums) and Özgur joined the band as a bass player and vocalist.

SOUL SACRIFICE mostly play Death Metal with melodic tunes but their sound is also influenced by Turkish melodies and offers varied vocals.

Their debut album “Stranded Hate”, released in 2005, was a huge success. Being named “the most successful live band in Turkey”, they played countless gigs in Turkey over the last decade. They had the chance to share the stage with Slayer, In Flames, Kreator as well as Dio and were opening act for Orphaned Land, Dark Tranquillity and Arch Enemy.

Their upcoming album Carpe Mortem was mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan Swanö and is going to be released on June 29, 2012 via Massacre Records.

The band has already shot a video clip for their new song Comatose, which is available here: http://youtu.be/NMv-AEneSJM

BINAH – UK Death Metal Trio To Release “Hallucinating in Resurrecture” This Summer

Posted in Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on May 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Dark Descent Records and Me Saco Un Ojo are thrilled to announce the release of Binah’s debut, Hallucinating in Resurrecture. Despite none of the band’s members being newcomers to Underground Metal, the entity that is Binah has spawned what is certain to be remembered as one of this year’s weightiest and hungriest-sounding full-length recordings.

Spanning ten tracks of morbid-sounding death, Hallucinating in Resurrecture captures the UK trio’s concoction of obscure and primordial sounds; one that makes no secret of their Finnish, Dutch and Swedish (even some U.S. via Autopsy and Morbid Angel) prime inspirations, yet oozes a dense ambiance that’s distinctly their own.

Whether exploring fast and serpentine sections or sparser and more reflective passages; this beast remains unrestrained in its intensity. Focusing on its song-craft and otherworldly in its vibes; familiar yet eerie, Hallucinating in Resurrecture is pure death.

Hallucinating in Resurrecture will be released in late June/early July on CD through Dark Descent Records and as a standard LP via Me Saco Un Ojo. The cover art for Hallucinating in Resurrecture was done by MMonsterbrush.

JUDGEMENT DAY – Sign With minus Head Records; “POLAR SHIFT” Set For July 31st Release

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on May 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Judgement Day, the Oakland based trio that NPR described as “a mix of Progressive Rock and Classical with strings played through distortion pedals and other effects”, have signed on with the eclectic Bay Area label minus Head Records for a July 31 release of Polar Shift.

The band made waves with their 2010 release Peacocks/Pink Monsters, a record Time Out Chicago said “not only spans genres but does away with them altogether… the new school of classical-thrash has its poster boys” and was affectionately dubbed “string metal” by fans and critics.   Following an album cycle that included tours with Dredg, Mates of State and Pinback the band retreated to a Sea Ranch, Calif. cabin to begin work on what would become Polar Shift.

“On this album, we wanted to see if we could make something with unfiltered violin and cello sounds that fits with drums and still rocks as hard as a guitar album does,” explained Anton Pantzer, violinist and songwriter for Judgement Day. What followed was a twenty-day recording session in an isolated wooden room with uniquely vaulted ceilings lending an incredible sound to the fourteen-track release. “It was nice to be away from society and have the opportunity to solely concentrate on music.  We really tapped into something special.

Judgement Day is brothers Anton and Lewis Patzner (Lewis plays cello) with Jon Bush on drums.

MORTAL INFINITY – Digital Media Records Releasing “District Destruction” From German Thrashers MORTAL INFINITY On June 15th

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , , on May 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Canada’s Digital Media Records will release District Destruction from German Thrashers MORTAL INFNITY on June 15th. MORTAL INFINITY offers an album’s worth of surgically precise, immediately memorable, and frighteningly ferocious Thrash Metal. The album was recorded at Sound Lodge Studios from Joerg Uken (God Dethroned, Dew-Scented, etc), ensuring maximum riff crunch and laceration potential.

Taking influence from the likes not only the Bay Area (Exodus, Testament, etc) and German (Destruction, Kreator) scenes, but also acts like Slayer and Lamb of God, MORTAL INFINITY’s District Destruction is one debut album that plays like it was made by 20-year veterans.

District Destruction Cover Art & Track Listing:

Intro

Thrill to Kill

At Dawn of Death

Wake of Devastation

Retribution

District Destruction

Condemned Rising

Radical Response

Sound of Brutality

______________________________

Band Background:

Mortal Infinity is a Thrash Metal Band from Bavaria/Germany. The band combines their influences from old school Bands like Exodus, Testament, Pantera and Slayer with modern bands like Lamb of God to create their own trademark. Mortal Infinity was founded 2009 by lead singer Marc Doblinger and bass player Sigi Weinhart. After the usual changes in the early lineup, they hit the stage with guitar players Sebastian Unrath and Thomas Harlander, who both play rhythm and lead guitar, and Frank Fiedler on drums.

Early in 2011 Mathias Erber joined the band to fill in for bass player Sigi W. who quit to attend a university of applied sciences. Later that year Frank F. left the band because of his health issues, so Mathias E. switched to drums and Daniel Hofer joined Mortal Infinity as the new bass player. This is the line up that recorded the debut District Destruction at the Sound Lodge Studios with Joerg Uken (God Dethroned, Dew-Scented) late 2011.

May 2012 had a historic moment for the band when a contract was signed with Digital Media Records, a proud event for the band indeed. Mortal Infinity are playing numerous shows in Europe (e.g. Metalfest Austria with Megadeth) and looking forward to seeing you on the road!

MORTAL INFNITY is:

Marc Doblinger – Vocals

Thomas Harlander – Rhythm Guitar

Sebastian Unrath – Lead Guitar

Daniel Hofer – Bass

Mathias Erber – Drums

SLIPKNOT – Mick Thomson and Jim Root – On Cover Of June 2012 Issue Of Guitar World

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on May 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SLIPKNOT – This past week I had the opportunity to catch up with the June 2012 issue of Guitar World and what an issue! There is a fabulous interview with Slipknot’s Mick Thomson and Jim Root that no fan of this legendary band should miss. Richard Bienstock asked some real and sincere questions during this interview; an engaging read it is. I truly admire the members of Slipknot for moving forward in the absence of their Metal brother, the late Paul Gray. Long Live Slipknot.

John 5 is also interviewed by Richard Bienstock and what a very cool read! John 5 talks about scoring the upcoming Rob Zombie directed Horror film The Lords of Salem, his gear and new album God Told Me To; plus John 5 reveals about his recording an acoustic album with David Lee Roth! This acoustic album is still to be released. Whoa! This is good stuff!

A tremendous article on PANTERA’s iconic Vulgar Display Of Power is included in this issue! Interviews with the surviving members of PANTERA on the making of this album to personal thoughts on the late Dimebag Darrell, this feature makes for a mandatory Metal read.

Look for some of my quick Metal thoughts about the July issue of Guitar World which features SLASH on the cover, this coming week! Metal be thy name.

ADORNED BROOD – German Pagan Metal Pioneers Sign To Massacre Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, pagan metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on May 25, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Massacre Records:

We’re proud to announce the signing of German Pagan Metal pioneers ADORNED BROOD!

When they started in 1993, ADORNED BROOD were just a few young metalheads who loved Metal and who wanted to create their own unique sound by combining elements of Extreme Metal on the one hand and Folk elements, like flutes, on the other.

Meanwhile, the band can look back on seven full-length albums, such as “Asgard”, “Heldentat”, “Noor” and their latest album “Hammerfeste”.

ADORNED BROOD faced several line-up changes, but they always stayed true to themselves.

Besides playing at Germany’s Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze and lots of other festivals, the band played countless gigs, some of them as support for bands such as Subway To Sally, TYR, Alestorm, Turisas or Korpiklaani.

Vocalist and bassist Frost, drummer Mischa, guitarists Thorsten and Jan, keyboardist Niklas and flutist Anne are currently working on new material for their 8th album, which is scheduled to be released in fall 2012.

The band stated:

“We are looking forward to work with such an established label like Massacre Records, which has faith in us and supports us. It’s an honor to be signed to the same label that Eisregen, Legion of the Damned and Wolfchant are signed to!”

ADORNED BROOD as well as their label mates CORONATUS are going to play at Germany’s famous gothic festival WGT (Wave Gotik Treffen) in a couple of days!

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Friday, May 25th, 2012

Memorial Day – CD Cover (Knightsbridge – 2009)

Memorial Day weekend is upon us here, in the grand country of America. A federal holiday, Memorial Day is always celebrated on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is for remembering and honoring all service men and women who’ve died in all the wars which America has been involved in. Parades, memorial services, fireworks shows and family picnics are four common ways in which Memorial Day is celebrated.

I am thankful to all the soldiers who gave their lives for American freedom. I’m also thankful to all the active duty service men and women of our armed forces who keep our country safe each day; as well as those who survived these terrible wars; both the wounded and retired.

Mark Tremonti (founding member/guitarist of Creed and Alter Bridge) will be having his debut solo album, All I Was, releasing in early July. The one and only time I interviewed Mark was for Hard Rock Hideout, back in March of 2011. Mark was a soft-spoken, polite and nice guy. You can read this interview in its entirety by clicking the large link below!

The new Aerosmith album, Music From Another Dimension, will be released on August 28th, 2012. This will be the 15th studio album from Aerosmith (counting their 2004 cover album Honkin’ On Bobo). I hope it’s a good Rockin’ album. The album artwork looks cool; it’s very retro. I will sample this album online before I make a purchase though…

Motörhead – Ace Of Spades (1980 – Bronze)

What is mandatory Metal? Check below:

Testament – Live In London (2005 – Spitfire)

This past Sunday, May 20th, Robin Gibb passed away at age 62. My condolences to the family, friends and fans of Robin Gibb. If I have to name a favorite Bee Gees song… it’s… Nights On Broadway.

Those are my Metal and Rock ‘N Roll thoughts for Friday, May 25th, 2012. I wish everyone a safe, healthy and Rockin’ weekend, wherever you may roam. Reuse, Refurbish and Recycle. Metal be thy name.

LONG LIVE METAL AND ROCK ‘N ROLL.
