ROB ZOMBIE – Oh those cover songs. Sometimes there are so many bands doing cover songs these days I realistically lose track of many of them. Some cover songs are super fabulous, some are good and some are plain forgettable. Rob Zombie’s cover song of We’re An American Band falls into the category: Super Fabulous. Well, in my Metal opinion it does and this cover of We’re An American Band is:
Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!
Who could possibly argue that Classic Rock wasn’t the meat and potatoes for the evolution of Heavy Metal? I sure can’t. Rob Zombie took this Grand Funk Railroad Rock classic and Zombiefied it to a level of unthinkable Metal bliss and I’m flying high again! I guess when you get Rob Zombie and John 5 together with Piggy D and Ginger Fish, grand Metal miracles happen on an almost too common basis. In other words: Rob Zombie RULES.
I could have easily targeted Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor as Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day; only that’s for… another METAL day. Now, if only the corporate lame-O’s over at The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame would induct Grand Funk Railroad into their prestigious society. What am I thinking? AmericanMidwest Rock N’ Rollisn’t supposed to exist in that building in Cleveland. Shame on me for even dreaming like that. Metal be thy name.
Credited as Grand Funk, Grand Funk Railroad released their seventh studio album We’reAn American Band back in 1973, via Capitol Records.

Pitchfork.com has premiered “Heathen Child,” from DEMON LUNG’s forthcoming full-length debut. It’s the second song released from The Hundredth Nameset for release via CandlelightRecords on June 4. The conceptual album was produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).
Discussing the song, drummer Jeremy Brenton reveals, “‘Heathen Child’ is the fifth track on the record and is definitely one of our favorites to play live. We got the gnarliest guitar tone at the end of that song. It’s the part of the story where our hero, the warlock, kills an unbaptized male child in order to make a flying potion from his fat. Don’t try this at home, especially without a sharp knife.”
Early reviews of The Hundredth Name are encouraging. Sludgelord.com writes, “The Hundredth Name is a masterpiece from top to toe… this IS doom.” Metal Review says, “This is a band that knows how to make Doom Metal dramatic,” while Vegas Seven adds, “DEMON LUNG’s debut record destroys. Literate and lacerating, the ‘LUNG breathes real fire.” With the album’s full impact at Metal radio nationwide set for this coming Monday, it is an album that will find a rightful place in the collections of doom and metal fans round the globe.
Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG self-released Pareidolia in early 2012. The band was dubbed “Earthy-yet-horror-themed Doom Metal,” by Metal Hammer and, “One of the best new bands out there,” by PureGrainAudio. Signing with Candlelight Records last Autumn, the band featuring vocalist Shanda Fredrick, guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, with drummer Brenton, entered Oakland-based Sharkbite Studios in mid-December. Emerging a few weeks later, the album was turned over to Billy Anderson to work his mixing magic. Fredrick notes, “Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He helped us craft something we are very proud of.”
DEMON LUNG continues to perform live as the album’s release draws near. Confirmed performances are noted below.

Fans of Michaels know him as a long-time RV devotee, and now Travel Channel is revealing, for the first time, just how deep his RV passions run. Michaels, a hands-on enthusiast, leads a team of skilled, custom RV designers and fabricators who transform travelers’ ordinary RVs into the most outrageous, badass, hooked-up mobile mansions on the road.
“For the past 25 years, Bret Michaels has spent at least 9 months out of the year in a tour bus that he personally designs from top to bottom,” said Andy Singer, Travel Channel GM. “We couldn’t think of a better front man than Bret for the series. He lives and breathes life on the road, and undoubtedly, holds the record for the most hours logged in a custom coach. Bret jumped at the chance to share his passion for travel and the RV experience through the fascinating, obsessive world of customizing RVs.”
“Between touring and traveling, I spend a lot of time on the road, and my tricked-out, custom coach is my home away from home,” says “Rock My RV” host Bret Michaels. “I crisscross the country and live in my tour bus, and I know how to take an RV from ordinary to extraordinary. I can’t wait to put my expertise to use and show people how to make their RVs rock.”
Ronnie James Dio – As incredible as it sounds, it’s been three years since the iconic Ronnie James Dio passed away. May 16th, 2010 was one of the saddest days in the history of Metal and Rock N’ Roll. At age 67, Ronnie James Dio’s battle with cancer came to a tearful end. No matter how evil cancer is, the one thing it cannot destroy is the memories and spirit of its courageous victims.
The spirit of Ronnie James Dio shall forever live on and my memories of seeing him in concert, listening to his albums and letting his lyrics and music move me will never fade away. Never. I am very pleased to see the constant and never-ending outpouring of love that the fans, bands, musicians and record labels give toward Ronnie James Dio each day on social network sites like twitter and facebook.
It’s truly amazing to read about how many lives that this one incredibly talented man had touched over the decades; and Ronnie James Dio is still touching us all with his never quit strength he had exhibited and priceless Metal spirit that lives on (in all of his fans). There will never be another Ronnie James Dio.
God Bless Ronnie James Dio and may he rest in peace.
Stone.

May 15, 2013, LOS ANGELES – Palms, the Los-Angeles based band featuring members of ISIS and Chino Moreno of Deftones, have unveiled the album art for their June 25th self-titled debut album as well as the six-song (47 minute) track list.
The quartet have also announced their first tour dates: a four-date west coast run this July with stops in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and San Francisco:
Palms came together following the demise of ISIS, with Jeff Caxide (bass), Aaron Harris, (drums) and Clifford Meyer (keyboards/guitar) electing to continue playing music together. “After a little time Jeff, Cliff, and I decided that it was insane that we all still lived here in Los Angeles and weren’t playing together,” Harris says. “It just sort of happened naturally, probably because we have been playing together for so long, and things started to come together. But we didn’t want to be instrumental: We wanted vocals. We just weren’t exactly sure who that would be at first.”
The band, knowing that Chino Moreno (Deftones) had been a fan of ISIS, thought he would be a great fit and he agreed. “A chance to work with the guys from ISIS sounded like a lot of fun,” Moreno says, “I’ve always been into the atmospheric sounds they had created with that project and felt my sense of melody would meld well with theirs.”

WITCH CROSS – Honestly, the Metal comeback story of the legendary WITCH CROSS is one for the METAL ages. Who would think this Metal band would ever return? And return they have! With a Metal vengeance! With their (also legendary) peers SATAN making a Metal comeback as well in 2013, I couldn’t be more overflowing with Metal glee!
What’s so remarkably impressive about this WITCH CROSS Metal comeback are their (obvious) connection to their fans, their wooing same fans at various European Metal festivals and the lead single, Demon In The Mirror, from their forthcoming NEW studio album: Axe To Grind.
Metal as my witness, Demon In The Mirror has made me feel like a Metal kid again; making me feel the way I did when I first heard such classic Metal songs as: You’ve Got Another ThingComin’ (Judas Priest), Denim And Leather (Saxon), Power (Rainbow) and Bark At The Moon (Ozzy). Why those particular songs? Call it Metal imbedding in my (very own and personal) Metal soul and call it delicious Metal elements all coming together.
Demon In The Mirror exhibits elevated Metal vibes of profound substantial levels, is Old School and has a quasi-energetic outro (courtesy of guitarist Mike Kock) that (to me) rivals what the incredible Jake E. Lee had accomplished so brilliantly with the song classic Bark At The Moon. Kev Moore was born to sing Metal. This band was born to play Metal. For me, Witch Cross has created a thunder strike of Metal bliss with Demon In The Mirror.
Listen to and watch Demon In The Mirror below. If it doesn’t blow you away, your listening to the wrong genre of music. Metal be thy name.

“…prepare for a delectable feast of old school Death Metal that not only remains both catchy yet punishingly heavy throughout but also incorporates slower more methodical and sinister moments, darker and colder segments that border on Black Metal influence and the constant presence of a band who totally dominate their sound and style.” [10/10] – Destructive Music
“…obscured and rotten death metal with classic dark vibes.” – Zombie Ritual Zine
After 3 decades of sickness, the 2 piece maggot eating death machine known as ZOMBIEFICATION is ready to crawl out of the grave with disgust. Soon they will take over the graveyard and unite the dead for the unholy ceremony. Few have been to the encounters so far, but the new age of putrid Death Metal will stench the world. Philadelphia – Baroness have added an additional leg to their previously announced Yellow& Green North American Tour, with a number of Midwest and West Coast dates including a stop at Bumbershoot.
The band has also released a candid interview clip where they share their thoughts on the Summer 2012 tour bus accident and reveal the first rehearsal footage with Nick Jost (bass) and Sebastian Thomson (drums). Watch below:
Baroness has a full summer ahead of them with their headlining dates kicking off on May 24 at Union Transfer in Philadelphia and upcoming stops at Chaos in Tejas, The Orion Festival, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Heavy Mtl.
Baroness announced their eagerly awaited return to the road in early April with guitar player Pete Adams saying: “It’s hard to find the words to express how excited we are to announce this tour. Seven months ago, who knew when it would be or even if we could get back on the road. But here we are, picking right back up where we left off. A heartfelt thanks to everyone’s unconditional love and support for us through, let’s hope, the hardest time this band will ever see. We told you we’d be back so let’s do this thing!”
Inter Arma opens May 25 & 26; True Widow opens May 28 – 31; Coliseum opens June 4 to 15; Royal Thunder opens on headlining dates from Aug. 1 to Sept. 4
Tickets for the additional dates are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time except Denver, which is on-sale Saturday at 10 am.
Baroness was sidelined when their tour bus plunged off a viaduct in the Bath area of England on Aug. 15, leaving the band and crew members with a variety of serious injuries. Yellow & Green had been released less than a month when the accident happened, and with just four shows remaining in the six-week trek before the band could return home to enjoy the praise that was being heaped upon the double-album. Singer/guitar player Baizley suffered extensive injuries, which, at one point, clouded the future of both the band and his return to music.
In October, after an unprecedented outpouring from fans, peers and friends, Baizley posted an open letter in which he painfully recounted the horrific crash (http://baronessmusic.com/update-from-baroness/), ending the ten-paragraph note with a fierce determination to return to music and touring. By December, a clip of Baizley and Adams performing an acoustic rendition of “Stretchmarker” was posted on the Baroness website (http://baronessmusic.com/a-message-from-john-stretchmark-video/) with a brief note that started with “Simply put: it’s time to get back to it.” With that, Baroness’s return to touring was not a matter of if but when. Adams and Baizley made their first public appearance with a performance in late January at Decibel Magazine’s 100th issue celebration in Philadelphia. Earlier this month, Baizley ventured to SXSW for a solo performance at Invisible Oranges/Brooklyn Vegan’s showcase as well as pair of art exhibits (Baizley’s art can be viewed at www.aperfectmonster.com).
Yellow & Green has garnered enormous praise and landed on various best of and year-end lists worldwide including reigning over Spin’s “20 Best Metal Albums of 2012,” iTunes awarding “Take My Bones Away” the distinction of the best metal song of the year, Metal Hammer Germany placing the release at #2 on their year-end list and BBC Music describing the album as a “nearly flawless collection” while giving Yellow & Green the #13 spot in their Top 25 albums of 2012. The 18-track record also landed on year-end lists from Amazon (#46), Close Up Sweden (#4), Decibel (#2), Guitar World (#15), Loudwire (#4), Magnet (#12), Metal Hammer Norway (#4), Metal Hammer UK (#14), Paste (#47), Pitchfork (#27), PopMatters (#4), Revolver (#4), Stereogum (#18), Terrorizer (#2), Treble (#2), Village Voice (#6) and Visions Germany (#4).

SEVER THE DRAMA – I crossed Metal paths with SEVER THE DRAMA and would like to share their raging music video, Watching You, with all my fellow Metal brethren. WatchingYou is the lead single from their (2010) debut album Vested Interest. I hereby make this Metal declaration:
SEVER THE DRAMA – Watching You music video is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!
SEVER THE DRAMA calls Hartford, Connecticut home and are an unsigned Hard Rock/Metal band. This band bestows some potent Metal talent and should not fly under your Metal radar! I dig what I’m hearing from SEVER THE DRAMA; this is underground Heavy Music that must be heard and spread stateside and worldwide!
Take a listen and look below to Watching You… crank it up LOUD and remember these 3 words: SEVER THE DRAMA. Metal be thy name.
BUY THE DEBUT ALBUM, VESTED INTEREST, FROM SEVER THE DRAMA ON ITUNES!
Sever The Drama is as much a mission statement as a band name. This focused, driven four-piece from Hartford, CT delivers a dynamic Hard Rock experience. Intricate and explosive rhythms lay the foundation for solid bass, powerful guitars and melodic yet aggressive vocals.
Since 2009, Sever the Drama has been playing stages in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York – building its fan base. High powered, tight, visually arresting performances separate Sever the Drama from the rest.
