Philadelphia’s Thrashbastards RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER are preparing to unload Ghostmaker, their belligerent third album, and first for Candlelight Records, onto North American ‘bangers on June 19th.

Formed by current members of Absu, Woe, Azure Emote, Ashencult, Fucked Forever, Total Fucking Destruction, Smoker & the Rollers and more, RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER‘s hard-partying Death-Thrash surges with more intensity than ever on Ghostmaker, resulting in a maniacal forty-five minute whirlwind that will surely require neck braces for unseasoned and weak metallers. The album was produced by the band and bears cover art by gore artist Mike Hrubovcak (Sinister, Grave, Hate Eternal, Cattle Decapitation, etc.) as with several of the band’s previous releases.

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Friday, June 1st, 2012

It’s already June! Once July 1st hits, 2012 will officially be half over! Metal be thy name, time keeps on moving. There have been so many terrific album releases thus far in 2012; from Rock to Death Metal, I am not at a loss for seeking out new titles to explore. From the new Candlebox (Love Stories & Other Musings) to Six Feet Under (Undead), with new Jorn and Shadows Fall in-between, there is a wide spectrum out there that I’ve been chowing down with my ears.

The title from Loverboy’s 1985 multi-platinum album, Lovin’ Every Minute Of It, says it all about how I feel about this year in music.

I went to see Loverboy on tour supporting this album, back in 1985. This concert was at the Hartford Civic Center. I remember Philadelphia’s very own, The Hooters, opened up for Loverboy too. This was before I started hanging out with Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale and I still bumped into him at this show. Call it Metal buddy fate. Unreal.

To sum it up, Loverboy put on a damn good live show that night; the Hartford Civic Center was packed and the fans were going nuts. Lots of Loverboy lovin’ gals were there, just as many for a Poison concert (for back then). The Hooters were cool to see live too; I made certain to see their entire set.

The new Santana album Shape Shifter is INCREDIBLE. Whoa. As with many new albums, I want to write a review for it sometime soon. To say the guitar playing of Carlos Santana is delicious to my senses is an understatement. All but one song on this new Santana album are instrumentals. If you’ve even been slightly thinking about buying Shape Shifter, just buy it!

There’s just something about the guitar tones of Santana; sonic vibes that puts me into that Summertime good-feeling zone. I love it when a guitarist can take my mind on a journey, especially on instrumentals and Shape Shifter does just that. Carlos Santana is a GUITAR LEGEND. ‘Nuff said.

Both Cannibal Corpse (Torture) and Six Feet Under (Undead) have cracked the Billboard 200 Album Chart this year! Death Metal reigns! Metal be thy name! Both albums were released via Metal Blade Records. I also highly recommend both of these tremendous albums. Yes, I do and ring that Death Metal bell for all extreme and bloody glory.

In addition, Undead landed at at #30 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart, #22 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums Chart, #14 Billboard Top Current Albums Chart and #183 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.

In Canada, the record ranked in at #34 on the Hard Music Chart, #199 on the Top 200 Current Albums Chart, #167 on the iTunes Top 200 Chart, #35 on the iTunes Rock Chart and #3 on the iTunes Metal Chart. SOUL SACRIFICE – Sign To Massacre Records

We’re delighted to welcome SOUL SACRIFICE from Istanbul to our family!

The band was formed in 1997 by the two guitarists Maksim and Feyzi.
Maksim also did the vocals in the early days of the band, before he was replaced as vocalist by Baris in 1999. In 2001, Sevan (former bassist) and Cagri (former drummer) joined the band. The band recorded their first demo, “A Gift From An Angel”. But the line-up shouldn’t last forever. In 2003 Onur (drums) and Özgur joined the band as a bass player and vocalist.

SOUL SACRIFICE mostly play Death Metal with melodic tunes but their sound is also influenced by Turkish melodies and offers varied vocals.

Their debut album “Stranded Hate”, released in 2005, was a huge success. Being named “the most successful live band in Turkey”, they played countless gigs in Turkey over the last decade. They had the chance to share the stage with Slayer, In Flames, Kreator as well as Dio and were opening act for Orphaned Land, Dark Tranquillity and Arch Enemy.

Their upcoming album Carpe Mortem was mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan Swanö and is going to be released on June 29, 2012 via Massacre Records.

DIABOLICAL – Swedish Death Metal Warriors Set To Enter The Studio

Swedish apocalyptic Death Metallers DIABOLICAL are set to enter the studio to record their as-of-yet untitled fifth album. The band has already started pre-production and will begin recording in June. “We have more than enough material written and pre-produced already, and we are confident that this album will be a milestone for DIABOLICAL as a band and for Metal as a genre.” says guitarist Carl Stjärnlöv. The recording will take place at infamous Necromorbus Studio facilities, with vocalist and guitarist Sverker Widgren producing again. A release date is yet to be announced. “Time is never a parameter for us. What we do is beyond time and space.” adds Stjärnlöv. The band will post a series of video studio diaries as work on the album progresses.

Band To Embark Upon 18 Nights Of Blood Tour Next Month

Death Metal ministers SIX FEET UNDER today announces the addition of rhythm guitarist Ola Englund to their legendary ranks. Englund, who will make his first official appearance with the band on the 18 Nights Of Blood Tour set to commence next month, takes the place of Rob Arnold.

Comments founding vocalist Chris Barnes of the new recruit:  “Ola is an amazing guitarist and was chosen for his superlative technique and style of playing. We believe he will be the perfect complement to Steve Swanson, and the devastating rhythm section that is Talley/Hughell. Steve, Kevin, Jeff and myself are so looking forward to Ola’s entrance into the band upon the release of Undead and the commencement of our first tour next month with Dying Fetus and Revocation. We can’t wait for you to witness the new killing machine that is SIX FEET UNDER! Ola takes over duties for our good friend and death metal warrior Rob Arnold who will be retiring from touring but will remain a central writing partner and fellow collaborator on future SFU releases. We are all sad to not have Rob on the road with us, but are confidant and 110% psyched that Ola is now within the ranks of the Undead and will be ready to lay waste to every stop along the way! Hails!”

Adds Englund: “When I got the call from Chris, it felt unreal; first thing that popped up in my head was, ‘why the hell did he want me — the total gear nerd from Sweden — to join his awesome band? To be able to share the stage with one of the biggest icons in Death Metal and the other killer musicians in SFU is a complete honor and a dream come true for me. Undead was officially released in North America today via Metal Blade Records. Called “the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence,” in a recent 8/10 review by Decibel Magazine, the record was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver), mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy) and features the recording line up of Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira).

Paul Kuhr and Mike Feldman of U.S. Death/Doom pioneers NOVEMBERS DOOM have officially launched CHARRED OWEN, a record label catering to vinyl enthusiasts and collectors. Below is a statement from Paul about the label.

Having a mutual love for what is collectable and a vinyl format now considered classic, Novembers Doom members Paul Kuhr and Mike Feldman have brought to life a newly formed record label. CHARRED OWEN was created out of nostalgia and a desire to see our own work released on a timeless format, vinyl. Not only is it collectable, but no other format has even been able to capture the full beauty of cover art, along with a tonal warmth only vinyl could bring.

We will start with a collaboration with The End Records to release select Novembers Doom titles, starting with “APHOTIC” available June 19th,  but we won’t stop there. Plans for other releases in the future are already in the works, with other bands in consideration.

As musicians in the Metal industry and fans of the same genre, our goal with CHARRED OWEN is to create collectable quality vinyl, from talented bands. We have many plans for the future, and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come to life.

ZONARIA – Swedish Death Metal Pack Signs With Listenable Records

Listenable Records is proud to announce the addition of ZONARIA to their roster. WARFATHER – Ex-Morbid Angel Member Steve Tucker Forms New Death Metal Unit; Signs To Greyhaze Records

Greyhaze Records is proud to announce the formation and signing of brand new Death Metal act WARFATHER, a devastating new unit conceived by ex-Morbid Angel gladiator Steve Tucker!

In a statement on what Metal fans are to expect from WARFATHER, Tucker stated: “This is my new band; it will be my main focus…. it is my kind of Death Metal.” Having been known for his vocal and bass skills in all of his previous acts, while still holding down vocal duties here, Tucker has moved on to guitar with this project. “I have always played the guitar and I think now is the time for me to make the move. I think doing solos and extra guitar parts will allow me to express myself in a whole new way!”

Also on guitars is Armatura, formerly of Cincinnati-based Death Metal band Dominion. Recruited to the drum kit is Deimos, a Death Metal veteran currently playing in the band Temple and also having played with bands such as Severe Torture. The bass is dispatched by Nick McMaster (Krallice, Nader Sadek, Castevet). Additional guitar contributions will be tracked by friends of WARFATHER, which include many notable Death Metal stalwarts; full details will be announced shortly.

WARFATHER are currently in the final stages of tracking the yet-to-be-titled album, with mixing to take place immediately after. Tucker himself is producing the entire release, as he did for the 2011-released Nader Sadek album In the Flesh, which Tucker also performed on. The artwork is in the final stages as well, and will be unveiled shortly, along with the details on the album, which is being slated for release this Fall. Upon its’ release, WARFATHER will take their battle to the highways of the planet on tour in support of the album.

After starting out as vocalist/bassist for Death/Thrash act Ceremony, Steve Tucker moved on to handle bass and vocals on Morbid Angel’s infamous Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, Gateways to Annihilation and Heretic LPs. In 2009 Tucker was recruited to take part in the Nader Sadek album In the Flesh for release through then brand new label Greyhaze Records and licensed to Season of Mist Records. The project also featured Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy), Rune Eriksen (Mayhem, Ava Inferi) and more. During this time Tucker struck up a great relationship with Greyhaze Records, and together they decided to bring the reality of WARFATHER to fruition.
