NIGHT DEMON – Self-titled EP Releasing Via Shadow Kingdom Records

Night Demon - promo EP cover pic - 2013

On August 6th, Shadow Kingdom Records will release the self-titled four-song EP from NWOBHM-inspired upstarts NIGHT DEMON.

This California trio, featuring members of THE FUCKING WRATH, first started making noise in 2011. It didn’t take long for the band to make a name for themselves with Trad-Metal maniacs from across the globe. In fact, shortly after establishing an online presence via Bandcamp, the organizers of Germany’s Keep It True Festival offered NIGHT DEMON a place on the fest’s 2014 line-up.

British metallic stylings reminiscent of Angel Witch, Raven and Iron Maiden are kicked into overdrive with an edgier and grittier dose of American Venom. Consider NIGHT DEMON mandatory listening for any NWOBHM fan. The Shadow Kingdom Records CD release is remastered from the digital version and offers an undeniably superior sound.

Pre-orders are available at http://www.store.shadowkingdomrecords.com.

“Look out for this band; they have something special…” – AveNoctum.com

MAMMOTH SALMON “Internet EP 2” – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Mammoth Salmon - promo cover pic

MAMMOTH SALMON – Sludge, Doom, & Keeping it Real. Those exact words are found on the about page of MAMMOTH SALMON’s Facebook. Metal truth be told, that sums up this 3 song Internet EP 2 from this Portland, Oregon Metal band quite adequately. There is an Internet EP released prior from these guys, back in December of 2012. I’ll blab about that one too in the near future; working my way backwards, I guess!

This Internet EP 2 has recently been released this past March and it’s HEAVY as freaking homemade molasses and an all-out riff fest. Raw and damn cool are these 3 songs I’ve listened to on this EP. MAMMOTH SALMON aren’t following the leader with their sound either. The Sludge and Doom that this Metal pack from the Great Northwest is tapping into has an electric vibe happening; that’s where the real comes into play.

I just cannot control myself digging the way MAMMOTH SALMON have pieced these songs together, from a super thumping doom march to a crawling drone interval and back again; this band has caught my Metal attention. Paul Dudziak  (vocals, guitar & bass) and Mitch Meidinger on drums are the Dynamic Sludge Doom Duo that makes up MAMMOTH SALMON and it’s my Metal recommendation that you give them a listen.

I can honestly see MAMMOTH SALMON gaining some potent label attention (if the right person hears their Metal) in the near future, with such a strong mindset to keeping their songs both super heavy and fantastically interesting. Metal be thy name.

Black Death Metal Thrash demons ACHERON have completed the recording process for their upcoming Listenable Records release, Kult Des Hasses. The album is now set to enter the mixing and mastering phase.

ACHERON will be doing a mini-tour with INCANTATION in late July. The band has enlisted DISMEMBERMENT guitarist Jacob Shively to fill the slot of second guitarist. When asked if Shively would be their new permanent second guitarist, ACHERON founder Vincent Crowley stated:

“Jacob is a talented guitarist and fan of the band. His group DISMEMBERMENT opened for ACHERON a few times and I really liked them. That is why I asked him about filling in. But we are taking baby steps. We’ve learned from past experiences not to just hire someone right away. For now he is playing with us for all upcoming live shows. We’ll just have to see if it progresses into something more. But we are indeed open to the idea if the dedication and chemistry is there.”

SIOUX – From the fine city of Portland, Oregon comes a really, really cool Metal/Heavy Rock band that recently caught my Metal attention and their named SIOUX. This Metal trio have just released their S/T EP on May 10th, 2013. I have become so impressed with this band’s sound and songs on this EP that I hereby make this Metal declaration:

SIOUX – S/T EP Is:

Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

A (hopeful) majority of Sludge, Stoner, Doom and underground Metal fans will take an immediate liking to SIOUX and their muscular, badass heavy songs. There are 4 songs on their S/T EP and ALL 4 are legitimate listens that need to be heard and passed along throughout the Metal (world) community. Fans of Mastodon, WINO, Saint Vitus, Crowbar and Motörhead should all hear some influence within the song structures, vocals and musicianship of SIOUX.

Kirk Evans (vocals, guitar, bass) sounds like a giant atop the mountain peek, looking down upon his Metal followers who are chanting: SIOUX! SIOUX! SIOUX! In our grand Metal world there are those underground bands that turn up and kick your ass into Metal shape; SIOUX is one of those underground Metal bands. Get your ears into SIOUX and be glad you did; cause this band will serve you Metal right. Metal be thy name.

Aeonic Obliteration - Extinction Protocol - promo cover pic

Aeonic Obliteration, the debut full-length from Erie, Pennsylvania-based death metal henchmen EXTINCTION PROTOCOL, is out now via NYC-based D.I.Y. label P2.

Merging modern tactics with primal, classic death metal vitality, EXTINCTION PROTOCOL bridges schizophrenic old-school riffage with overpowering breakdowns. Their debut album Aeonic Obliteration lyrically scrutinizes the greed and corruption of mankind thus concluding humanity’s eventual downfall due to genetic testing and world altering events. With nine devastating songs packed into a nearly thirty-three minute event horizon, Aeonic Obliteration features stellar production values courtesy of Ivan at Anthropocide Studios (Abominable Putridity) and full-color cosmic destruction ala JoeJesus of DeviantArt.

Aeonic Obliteration can now be streamed in its entirety and purchased at the P2 Bandcamp RIGHT HERE, and the ultra-affordable CD version ordered HERE.

13 Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day… And…

Receives 4.5 Out Of 5 METAL FISTS!!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4Half - Metal Fist - metal odyssey

In case you’ve just gotten back from a trip to Neptune or have been lost in the remote northern woods of Pennsylvania, the iconic Black Sabbath have NEW music videos streaming online! Both songs are taken from their NEW studio album 13. See the links below! Whoa!

__________________________________

This critically acclaimed album, 13, was released on June 11th, 2013 in the U.S. and is an incredible offering of Metal from the founders of our beloved genre. Black Sabbath may be minus the legendary Bill Ward for 13, still, I am overly impressed by the total Sabbathian package of darkness and old school Doom vibes that blanket my senses each time I listen to 13.

As for the production of 13, regardless of any slight fuzz looming about, (which I find old school anyways), the powerful vocals of Ozzy Osbourne coupled with the unparalleled Doom riffage from Tony Iommi transcends any flaws that “some” critics believe to exist. Geezer Butler shines once again as well, proving to me he truly is among the kings of Heavy Metal bassists of both past and present.

Brad Wilk - Black Sabbath - 2013 - promo pic - #13

Brad Wilk (Photo Credit: Black Sabbath Facebook)

I give Brad Wilk so much credit for accepting a challenge to fill the shoes of the legendary Bill Ward. A world-class drummer in his own right, Brad Wilk excels on 13! It’s damn right heroic of Brad’s ability to transform his musicianship to sound so amazingly Sabbath-like. (If any other drummers sat in for the 13 sessions, than I’m not aware of it and please excuse my not being informed).

How much input did Rick Rubin have in mixing and mastering 13 I do not know. I’ll say this much, Rick Rubin surpassed my expectations on 13; due to my anxious thoughts he would turn this album into an overly pasted-together and satin-polished Death Magnetic. 13 sounds much more organic than that, thank God.

Doom Metal was forged and pioneered by Black Sabbath. Stoner Metal spun-off from this iconic band’s Metal atmosphere of sound. 13 is a resounding reminder of just that. This is one Black Sabbath album I never thought would happen and it’s here. Go out and get it and be thankful we still have this band around to make our Metal world that much more prolific.

God isn’t dead; nor is Black Sabbath.

Metal be thy name.

KALMAH: Full Album “Seventh Swamphony” Streaming At Revolvermag.com

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on June 14, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

61PHH94tdUL._SY300_

Celebrate your Friday with a hearty dose of Seventh Swamphony, the impending new full-length from Finnish Death Metal instigators, KALMAH, currently streaming in its entirety via Revolver Magazine.

Recorded at Tico-Tico Studios in Kemi, Finland, the follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed 12 Gauge release was mixed and mastered at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Paradise Lost, et al) and showcases the Oulu outfit’s signature brand of frantic, yet melodic death metal tempered here by a new-found epic mournfulness.

Reaping critical accolades both domestically and abroad, Metal Reviews crowned KALMAH’s Seventh Swamphony “Album Of The Year,” calling the band “one of, if not the finest, melodic death metal bands.” Said Metal Temple is an 8/10 review: “From their blistering opener of Seventh Swamphony, to the windmill inducing finale The Trapper, this album keeps the energy flowing nonstop. Pekka Kokko’s vocal work is solid with vicious growls and soul squirming screams that give an unearthly feel to the album.”

Adds New Noise Magazine: “Seventh Swamphony features quality over quantity and you will be aware of that on the first listen. Never have I heard the band so supercharged and ready to slaughter as they are featured here. Even the slower paced ‘Windlake Tale’ correctly utilizes a death growl vocal approach to its melodic folk and works well as a blueprint to show Amorphis what they’ve been doing wrong all of these years. Quite simply put, Seventh Swamphony might very well be one of the heaviest folk metal albums that I’ve heard in years and should go down in the band’s history as one of their most memorable releases.”

Otargos - Apex Terror - Promo Album Banner - 2013

French Blackened Death Metal mongers OTARGOS have inked a worldwide deal with Listenable Records for the release of the band’s recently completed new album, Apex Terror.

Apex Terror displays a fresher, stripped down and more intense style of songwriting that draws from the catchier end of Death Metal and obscure Thrash. Lyrically, the album is an exploration of the darker side of humanity. Apex Terror will be out in North America in the fall of 2013.

Live footage of the brand new song For Terra, which features BENIGHTED’s Julien Truchan on guest vocals and will appear on Apex Terror, has been posted HERE.

From Massacre Records:

We’re happy to welcome the Progressive Rock/Metal five-piece RUSTFIELD from Italy to the Massacre Records family!

The band was formed in 2007 by guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Davide Ronfetto. He was immediately joined by his long-time friend and singer Andrea Rampa.

They soon started composing demo songs and were joined by other talented musicians to bring their music on stage. In early 2011 the line-up was completed and they played their first shows.

In the past years, they played at the Mö.-Wa. Rockt festival as well as the Italian Revenge Festival and shared the stage with famous Italian bands such as White Skull, Eldritch and Kappa. In 2012, they also played their first acoustic show.

RUSTFIELD have mastered the concept of Progressive Rock/Metal by composing melodies, which incorporate various nuances and musical atmospheres.

On the upcoming debut album you’ll find tracks, which entwine classic Heavy Metal with electronic and psychedelic ambiences; and acoustic and melodic pieces of work will merge with rhythmical joints pertaining to a more progressive style.

RUSTFIELD’s debut album Kingdom Of Rust will be released later this year via Massacre Records!
