From NUCLEAR BLAST:

DEATH ANGEL are pleased to announce their North American headlining tour in support of their upcoming thrashsterpiece, “The Dream Calls For Blood”. Joining them on a savage aural assault across two nations are: 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, BATTLECROSS, REVOCATION, and DIAMOND PLATE.

“We are so excited to announce this upcoming tour,” commented vocalist Mark Osegueda. “We worked so hard writing, and recording this record! Especially writing this while on the road for the last 3 years of touring. And it reflects the triumphs, and mainly hardships of all we went through while touring. The anger, perseverance, and energy was captured on the recording of The Dream Calls for Blood. This tour is the PERFECT spring-board to launch off of and back on the road; hungrier and more focused than ever! With a lineup of bands handpicked by us, you’re basically sonically ravaged from the moment the lights dim at the beginning of the night, until the lights turn back on at the end! I’m confident every band on this bill plan on sending you home feeling like you’ve survived a massacre that you can’t help but brag about. Look forward to feeding off each other’s energy! Stay hungry! Stay thrash! See you on the road, in the pit, and at the bar!!!”

Currently celebrating ten years of blackened Metal, SKELETONWITCH are proud to unveil details about their most venomous release yet — Serpents Unleashed. Set for release in North America on October 29 (October 28 EU/UK, October 25 Germany), the highly anticipated follow-up to 2011’s critical-lauded, Billboard-charting Forever Abomination was recorded earlier this year at GodCity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Trap Them, High on Fire), who expertly channeled the band’s colossal live sound into eleven blasts of abominable, frosty fire. Serpents Unleashed features cover artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak), who returns to the ‘WITCH fold for the first time since 2007’s Beyond The Permafrost.

Today, new track “Burned From Bone” — which the band debuted earlier this year during a headlining set at Pitchfork’s “Show No Mercy” showcase at South By Southwest — premiered on SiriusXM’s “Liquid Metal with Jose.” The song is available now as a free* download by texting SERPENTS to 24587. Behind-the-scenes studio footage of the band recording the track at GodCity can be view at:

Toxic Waltz - promo band pic - band logo - 2013 - #1

In the beginning of 2009, TOXIC WALTZ were founded by lead guitarist Jimi and ex-drummer Tim.

Bass guitar player Rahman, vocalist Angelo and rhythm guitarist Alex joined the band soon to form a THRASH METAL ensemble that is clearly affected by the US BAY AREA style (e.g. EXODUS, HEATHEN, DARK ANGEL), neither leaving out influences from other genres nor lacking recognition value.

TOXIC WALTZ are delivering aggressive, but artistically demanding THRASH, characterized by diversified songwriting.

The band’s unique style and live experience, originated with many smaller gigs, earned them bigger venues soon.

TOXIC WALTZ has shared the stage with well-known bands like SIX FEET UNDER, ALPHA TIGER and DEBAUCHERY.

In the near future, the debut full-length record “tba” is ready to be released through a record company. The band is fully ambitious to reach the maximum success for them and the label!

Stay tuned for additional details about the recording in the days ahead.

AMON AMARTH “Deceiver Of The Gods” – Melodic Death Metal Kings Are Victors Once Again!

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4Half - Metal Fist - metal odyssey

AMON AMARTH – The ninth studio album, Deceiver Of The Gods, from Sweden’s Melodic Death Metal Kings, AMON AMARTH, was released on June 25th of this year, via Metal Blade Records. Metal victory has once again been achieved for AMON AMARTH! Solid songs, musicianship, vocals and lyrics are only just the beginning, with Deceiver Of The Gods. AMON AMARTH have quite possibly released one of their finest Metal works of their storied career.

AMON AMARTH have a catalog of stellar albums that are (rather) difficult to leap-frog, when I think of making comparisons within their discography. AMON AMARTH are undisputed Metal legends, therefore Deceiver Of The Gods (just) has to be grand. Right? It is! This new AMON AMARTH album, Deceiver Of The Gods, rages along with Melodic Death Metal majesty and is a sonic blast of what this band is so legendary for!

Amon Amarth - promo band pic - #39 - 2013

My favorite song on this album is Hel. Glory be to the Metal Gods, this song is impeccable! Hel has now become (quite honestly) my favorite AMON AMARTH song of all-time! Vocalist Johan Hegg and (former Candlemass) guest vocalist Messiah Marcolin compliment each other in eye-popping fashion; it’s Johan’s muscular growl meets Messiah’s falsetto.

The title track (and album opener) plus the closer Warriors Of The North are fist-pumping, headbanging and raise the horns to the sky epics! A well thought-out way of bookending the prime-rib delicacy of Metal that is Deceiver Of The Gods. Northern Mythology is once again embraced within the themes of this new AMON AMARTH album; with the Norse God, Loke, being the current example; however, this album is not devoted entirely on this legendary figure.

AMON AMARTH continuously raises their own bar of excellence and I couldn’t be more sincere and psyched about that. I highly recommend Deceiver Of The Gods to ALL my fellow Metal brethren and consider it as a bona-fide Top Ten contender for Metal Odyssey’s year-end Best Of 2013 list.

INTER ARMA – Enters The Studio To Construct New Recording For Relapse

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on August 11, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Inter Arma - Promo Band Pic - #1 - 2013 - B&W

With accolades from media outlets and fans alike still surging in on their sophomore LP, Sky Burial, following its release via Relapse in March, Richmond’s genre-destroying INTER ARMA is already back to work in the studio. For the next ten days, the band will be bunkered down in Madison, Tennessee-based Dark Art Studios with producer Mikey Allred — the same surroundings and setup that captured the monolithic Sky Burial LP — once again unifying their talents on a massive track, to also see release via Relapse.

“There’s no title yet, but it’s a forty-plus minute piece that was originally written during the summer of 2009 and only played out a few times” stated guitarist Trey Dalton on the track. “We’ll have some different people doing guest appearances (noise, synth, strings, vox, and more) as well. We’re trying to make the most completely off the wall shit yet.”

Further details on the recording will be released in the coming weeks upon completion. In the meantime, INTER ARMA has been confirmed to perform at a pair of late Summer stateside music festivals, including a set alongside Pig Destroyer, ASG, Sleep, Kurt Vile and more at this year’s massive Hopscotch Fest in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 5th, followed by a spot on Boomslang Festival in Lexington, Kentucky the weekend of September 20th with Blonde Redhead, Marnie Stern, Locrian, Grails, Chelsea Wolfe and a ton of others. They’ve also been confirmed to storm Holland in 2014 as part of the annual Roadburn Festival. Expect further tour actions to be announced shortly.

Horlet - The Keys Of Life And Death - promo cover

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metal Fists 5 Metal Odyssey

HORLET – Underground Metal has its tried and true warriors, all over this big ball of rock we call Earth. Horlet is a band of such warriors and they call the greater Dayton, Ohio area home. Horlet is an underground Metal band that makes me proud. Quality Metal is reason #1 and a debut album that has literally left me awestruck is reason #2. The album is The Keys Of Life And Death; an album you cannot afford to not know about and pick up!

Horlet are unsigned and playing live at every chance they get. Horlet will be opening for Texas Metal legends HELLYEAH, on August 13th. Horlet has one of the very best Metal albums I’ve listened to in 2013; so rich with quality musicianship, vocals and songs, that the big and independent labels better find out about Horlet soon! Very soon. I am convinced that once any true Metalhead samples a song or two from The Keys Of Life And Death, they will be sold on Horlet. The production across the board is killer on this album, accentuating the conscientious work ethic of Horlet.

________________________________

Epic and (old school) Melodic Death Metal is the Metal forte of Horlet, while Thrash Metal fans will find plenty to cheer about with this album as well. There are four short interludes heard on The Keys Of Life And Death; all four are integral to the flow of this album and highlights the expansion of thought that Horlet wants the listener to be engaged in. If you’re like me, you will be convinced that Horlet has been recording together for many, many years; that’s how sensational all these songs come together. You shall be amazed by this band!

I cannot express any more loudly and clearly: Horlet is a turn-key Metal band for a Metal record label to sign, seal and Metal deliver to the Metal masses. The songwriting and lyrics are amazing unto themselves; coupled with the high tier musical skill sets of this band, the Metal future MUST be aglow with the Metal of Horlet. Underground Metal legends are not manufactured overnight. Horlet is the real fucking deal. Metal be thy name.

SATAN “LIFE SENTENCE” – SATAN REIGNS ONCE AGAIN!

Satan - Life Sentence - promo cover pic - 2013

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metal Fists 5 Metal Odyssey

SATAN – On June 18th, 2013, NWOBHM legends, SATAN, returned with a new studio album: Life Sentence (Listenable Records). This sensational comeback album from SATAN is their first since 1987’s Suspended Sentence. SATAN has become one of the best comeback stories of 2013 and have solidly proved it to me with ALL ten songs on Life Sentence.

Each time I listen to this new SATAN album, I marvel at the quality of the musicianship, vocals and songs. Life Sentence is a complete SATAN package! Lyrically ominous and invitingly dark is this album; with haunting vibes that seems to cast a hypnotic Metal spell on my brain, which to me, makes SATAN so significant within this pioneering and sacred Metal genre that they helped bolster so many years ago.

SATAN delivers their retrospective Metal sound with authority; a sound that numerous newer bands are trying to recreate today. The NWOBHM was and forever will be an era of profound importance in Metal history; SATAN’s Life Sentence is a magnificent reminder of just that. With history aside, this new album from SATAN unleashes an enormous wave of relevancy; accentuating that their Metal sound is indeed timeless.

Satan - classic logo - red

I can easily label Life Sentence as a guitar-driven album, with guitarists Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins leaving me helpless in numerous momentary lapses of Metal awe. Vocalist Brian Ross sounds excellent, tapping into his melodic and falsetto strengths. Listening to Brian Ross take command of the song is unreal. Graeme English on bass and Sean Taylor on drums are a non-stop force of Metal thunder! Whoa.

Siege Mentality, CenotaphTestimony and the title track are just four out of ten kick-ass songs that I could carry on about for another five hundred or more words. My Metal brethren who’ve already gotten into Life Sentence should surely share in my Metal passion I’ve expressed here. For those others in my Metal family who’ve not yet picked up this new SATAN album… you absolutely must!! Life Sentence is without question, one of the finest Metal albums released in 2013. SATAN reigns once again!

Metal be thy name.

SINISTER REALM “WORLD OF EVIL” = METAL FANTASTICAL!

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metal Fists 5 Metal Odyssey

SINISTER REALM – The greatest Metal band to ever call Allentown, Pennsylvania home is SINISTER REALM. There, I’ve said it. The greatest Metal band to ever call Pennsylvania home is SINISTER REALM. There, I’ve said that as well. Now… onto the Metal Odyssey album review for SINISTER REALM’s WORLD OF EVIL

There are many average, good and grand Metal albums that I’ve listened to thus far in 2013. Let’s just forget the bad Metal albums for they take up precious life moments, you know? What category does the 3rd studio album, World Of Evil, from SINISTER REALM fall into? Try: Fantastical. Anyone familiar with SINISTER REALM knows: this band of Metal Defenders will never deliver filler or artificial flavoring to an album with their name on it.

World Of Evil is 100% True Metal and boasts an Epic Metal atmosphere of invade and conquer. The vocals of Alex Kristof (alone) are epic! John Kantner and John Risko on guitars are epic! John Gaffney’s bass takes center stage; reminding me of how the legendary Steve Harris has always made his presence known with his iconic Iron Maiden. John’s bass is absolutely killer on World Of EvilChris Metzger on drums (once again) dazzles with his classic Metal style.

Sinister Realm - large band logo - white

World Of Evil has 8 Metal glorious songs; with 4 songs surpassing the 6 minute mark. Each song on World of Evil bestows its prominent mystique and melodically heavy uniqueness. Bell Strikes Fear gives me super Metal powers. Well, that’s what I like to think anyways. The album’s title track, The Ghosts Of Nevermore and (album closer) Four Black Witches are high points, among an album of luminous songs that have raised the Metal bar for American True Metal bands everywhere.

You’ve now been briefed. You’ve been given the Metal invitation. The time has cometh for you to enter The Metal Realm, aka the Metal world of SINISTER REALM. Metal be thy name.

UK-based thrashers MERCILESS TERROR will release their full-length debut, Vile Extinction, on October 7th via Devil’s Clause Records.

The album comes on the heels of last year’s self-released EP, Eternal Decay, and sees the band overcome a series of obstacles in the form of lineup changes. Earlier this year, Michael Brush (ex-HELLBASTARD) stepped in to take over drum duties and original guitarist David Siddons took his leave and was recently replaced by shredder Luke Tasker.

Frontman Dale Linsdell commented: “‘It has been tough this past year, with new line up changes/touring and recording the album itself, we are glad to finally unleash it upon the world. This will be 11 tracks of pure terror”

Vile Extinction was recorded at Stuck on a Name Studios by co-producer Ian Boult and was mixed and mastered by Neil Williams at Abysmal Audio. The album artwork was handled by legendary artist Jon Zig and the bands logo was revamped by local artist Gary Ronaldson of Bite Radius Designs.

“When Merciless Terror are not pummeling you with savage drumming then they are berating you with speed freak like riffs and a vocal style that will make lesser music fans cower in fear!” – Destructive Music

ZUD – Portland, Maine’s Obscure Blackened Jam Horde Drops Debut Album

Posted in Black Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on July 29, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

ZUD - The Good The Bad And The Damned - promo cover

ZUD – There are a few of them left out there. None are nearby and most are dead anyway. The castle has been under a long siege and strange things go on behind walls when death is such a good old pal… In one sense four years in the making, yet in another thrown together in six months. And so, out of the dead-end peninsula of Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine, ZUD presents their debut full-length, The Good, The Bad And The Damned.

Infectiously and seamlessly merging the aesthetics of Black Metal and Classic Rock, delivering tunes with an exceedingly organic delivery and live-for-now outlook, ZUDsomehow does something vibrant and fresh while simultaneously paying homage to those who forged the paths the four members have traveled thus far in life.

Recorded and mixed by Todd Hutchinson (Falls of Rauros, AOK Suicide Forest) at Acadia Recording Company in Portland, Maine and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Repugnant) at Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, The Good, The Bad And The Damned hits fucking hard with more than forty minutes of killer, free-form, high-octane Metal, perfect for those late Summer night parties full of suds and bud, while keeping you aware of the fact that no matter how good or bad life may be, death is always within spitting distance.

Check out “Blood And Twilight” RIGHT HERE.

ZUD self-released The Good, The Bad And The Damned on the Summer Solstice in a limited run of 333 hand-numbered gatefold digipak CDs, available for order direct from the band HERE.

ZUD - Large Band Logo - B&W

For those who lack imagination, ZUD plays old-school sleazy n’ cheesy blues-rockin’ black metal, like old Mayhem and older Bathory mixed with Roky Erickson, early Van Halen, Ash Ra Temple and a slew of other classic rock, psyche and various NWOBHM influences. It is harsh, it shreds, it kills and crushes, but it is also hypnotizing, trance-inducing and still catchy and fun as all fucking hell. This is music to die to, to cry to, to get high to, to bang your fucking head to. But most of all it is fuel for the souls of those true rock n’ roll outlaws who still wander around on their infinite journeys; be it on the iron dragons, an iron horse or on foot. Those who know that no friends or glory await at the end of the line, only death… and that there is nothing to do about it but to learn to enjoy the torture that is life in the bizarre but unique opportunities which it can present. To embrace the wastelands in the pouring rain. To smile at death. To wink back at the world when the time comes, knowing that the only thing left to say is “later twerps…”

Stay tuned for infiltrations of sheds and recluse vicinities with ZUD and their vicious live assault and be ready for plenty of surprises…

ULCERATE – An In-Studio Video Documenting “Vermis” Recording Sessions Posted

Posted in Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 21, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Ulcerate - Vermis - promo cover pic

Following the recent unveiling of the details on ULCERATE’s impending and highly anticipated fourth LP VermisRelapse has leaked an in-studio video with the Auckland, New Zealand tribe as they meticulously crafted the mammoth album at hometown MCA Studios earlier this year. The combined demolishing power and technical prowess of the music the trio creates is truly jaw-dropping on every one of the band’s releases to date, and watching them hone and construct these anguished hymns piece-by-piece is enthralling for any extreme music musician or ULCERATE devotee.

View the extensive in-studio video of the making of Vermis now AT THIS LOCATION.

Album-to-album, ULCERATE continually expands their attack by melding mechanical elements with organic flow patterns, and integrating more sonically demoralizing elements into their haunting explosiveness. The band’s forward-thinking death metal style is born where Hate Eternal, Gorguts and Immolation collides into the blackened anguish of Deathspell Omega or Portal — traits which become more apparent than ever on their Relapse debut Vermis.

The nine passages harnessed on their fourth full-length play out into a nearly hour-long document of their most tumultuous craftsmanship yet. Vermis will see release September 17th in North America, preceded by September 13th in Germany and Benelux, and September 16th in the UK and rest of the world. Preorders have been made available here.

Additional propaganda, hymns and more on Vermis will be announced in the coming weeks in addition to new ULCERATE tour actions for 2013.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Take Break From New Album; To Perform Live Dates In The US & South America

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on July 19, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Corrosion Of Conformity - Group Promo Pic 2012 #1

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY is vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer Reed Mullin.

_________________________________

Following their recent performance at the Fifth Annual Scion Fest in Memphis, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY has announced live assaults for August. In addition to their already planned participation at Gwar’s annual BBQ, the trio will perform a headlining show in Wilmington, Delaware before heading to South America for a string of dates. The August shows mark a break from continued work in the recording studio on the band’s new album, expected for release in early 2014.

“We need a little escape from the studio,” comments vocalist/bassist Mike Dean. “We thought it would be good to see the light of the day a little bit. We are excited to play Brazil, Peru, Columbia, and Argentina for the first time ever. Of course returning to Mexico City and playing Gwar’s BBQ will be highlights for our summer as well. The new material is sounding really good but it’s time to get the perspective provided only by playing in front of a live audience. And we are talking about some very live audiences in this case.”

Updates regarding progress of the band’s forthcoming album came during the band’s late April West Coast tour with Danzig. Dean said, “We have a lot of lyric writing to refine but a lot of solid musical arrangements are in place. We plan to begin basic tracking for half the songs as soon as we return to North Carolina.” The initial work on the still untitled album found the band not long out of the recording studio having recently completed their Scion/AV EP Megalodon. The special EP was included free to all customers to the band’s official webstore and is still available as a free download by clicking HERE.

Dean notes, “The EP was written, recorded, and released in two months time.  It really challenged us in a good way.” In the meantime, fans can check out live footage of the band’s first-ever appearance in Chile at this year’s Metal Fest this past April at THIS LOCATION.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY released their self-titled album via Candlelight Records to high praise late February 2012. It was the first new material by the North Carolina trio since 2005. “Corrosion Of Conformity is what you want out of a comeback record: not just a reclaimation of lost vigor but a meaningful update on a vintage sound,” said Pitchfork. “The celebrated Animosity line-up displays a command of style far beyond anything their 1985 selves could have imagined,” added Decibel. The album debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 chart at position 157 and impacted CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at position 8 on its debut week before working its way up to the top spot.  It remained on the magazine’s popular radio chart Top 10 for eight weeks.

Corrosion Of Conformity - Promo Album Pic #2!

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. The band has influenced countless new bands and today remains humble about their accomplishments. To date, the band has sold over 1.1 million albums in the United States and continues to find new fans via non-stop touring.

TOXIC HOLOCAUST – Portland Punk Metal Combatants Complete New Album

Posted in Metal, metal albums, metal bands, metal music, Music, punk metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 3, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Toxic Holocaust - Classic Band Logo - Yellow & Black

Portland’s favorite punk metal combatants, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, recently completed the recording of their long-anticipated forthcoming new full-length. Titled Chemistry Of Consciousness, the 12-track beast of an offering was recorded by the band themselves, mixed with friend, Converge guitarist and renowned producer, Kurt Ballou at his own GodCity Studio and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering.

Elaborates TOXIC founder Joel Grind, he of “spewed blasphemies and death-machine guitar tones” (Revolver): “I’m excited to announce that the new TOXIC HOLOCAUST record has been completed. We recorded it ourselves like we did last time but this time around we had our friend Kurt Ballou mix. It’s sounding so crushing! Lots and lots of distortion! Musically I went into a more punky territory than the last record while still maintaining the TOXIC HOLOCAUST sound. I look forward to everyone hearing it!”

Joel Grind

Chemistry Of Consciousness is set to deploy this Fall via Relapse Records. Further details – including cover art and track listing – to be revealed in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, fans can still bludgeon their ear drums to the satiating sounds of  From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction, the monolithic 22-track TOXIC anthology released earlier this year. Compiling over a decade’s worth of demos, and various comp and vinyl-only split appearances,From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction is a historic compilation of hostile bliss and a must own for any TOXIC HOLOCAUST completist. Order your copy HERE.

Toxic Holocaust - From The Ashes - promo cover pic

From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction

TOXIC HOLOCAUST mutated into existence in 1999, when Joel Grind merged his love for classic punk and metal into his ideal band. Like his influences – Bathory, Venom, English Dogs, Possessed, Broken Bones – TOXIC HOLOCAUST offers up blazing riffs, gravel-throated vocals, and a deadly fixation on the evil in man and a post-apocalyptic world wrapped in a DIY attitude.

CIRCLE OF CHAOS – Sign With Massacre Records

Circle Of Chaos - band promo pic - B&W - 2013 - #2

From MASSACRE RECORDS:

We’re happy to announce the signing of CIRCLE OF CHAOS from Sweden!

CIRCLE OF CHAOS started out as a project of the band’s guitarist HG Hogström in 2008. As the project developed, he began searching for musicians to complete the band. The original line-up then included HG Hogström (guitars), Thomas Jonsson (bass), Staffan Lundholm (drums), Antonio da Silva (vocals) and Allan Lundholm (guitars).

Dan Swanö mastered CIRCLE OF CHAOS’ debut album Black Oblivion that was released in 2010. It was well received worldwide and the band played their first live shows in Sweden.

In 2011, the band played their first shows abroad, in Germany and Poland, and shared stages with bands like Gun Barrel, Embodying The End and Dawn Of Destiny. At Germany’s Bremer Metal Festival in November 2011, Julian “Julle” Loaiza was introduced as new vocalist.

Circle Of Chaos - Large Logo - B&W

During spring 2012, CIRCLE OF CHAOS released the 5-track album “Twoheaded Serpent”, which was mixed and mastered by King Diamond’s Mike Wead. They went out on a headliner tour in Poland and the Czech Republic and also entered the Emergenza Festival and went all the way to the Scandinavian finals!

CIRCLE OF CHAOS have the ambition to always deliver energetic and captivating live shows. Anders “Atte” Strokirk joined the band as new guitarist in January 2013.

The natural adjustments in the line-up have strengthened and shaped a crew ready to go “all in” and let you know what “Swedish Metal Chaos” is all about!

The band is currently working hard on their upcoming album “Crossing The Line” – with Germán Echiburu on drums – which is set to be released later this year via Massacre Records!
