ALMAH – Brazilian Metal Band To Release Third Album “Motion” Via AFM Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, Power Metal, power metal albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on December 11, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Formed by Angra vocalist Edu Falaschi over a decade ago, Brazilian Metal act ALMAH have transformed from simply a side-project of the top-tier Power Metal acts into an expansive entity of its own volition, language and identity. AFM Records now confirms that Motion, ALMAH‘s third full-length, will be available to North American fans on January 17th, 2012.

ALMAH‘s first two studio albums – Almah (2007) and Fragile Equality (2008) were accepted well, both by fans and media alike. With Edu Falaschi being known for choosing excellent musicians and production crew for the creation of their releases, the lineup on Motion will not disappoint. Falaschi’s Angra bandmate Felipe Andreoli joins on bass, as well as Berklee-graduated guitar wizard Marcelo Barbosa, powerhouse drummer Marcelo Moreira and a master of fast solos and gargantuan riffs, Paulo Schroeber.

The musicians tread into more modern territory while keeping ALMAH’s recognizable style intact on Motion. Recorded with 7-string guitars, tuned a half-step down (B flat), while the rhythm guitars were layered four times, the band has reached their optimal balance of heavy, modern metal and beautiful, catchy melodies. Edu Falaschi has already stated that this album is probably the best one in his whole discography.

Motion was recorded at Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brazil produced by Falaschi and Andreoli, and mixed and mastered at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam by Jochem Jacobs (Textures). The cover artwork was created by Edu Falaschi himself with his iPhone, using some applications to create that motion effect, which was later edited by Felipe Andreoli.

MOTION – Track List:

Hypnotized

Living and Drifting

Days of the New

Bullets On The Altar

Zombies Dictator

SAMOTHRACE: Construction Of Second LP Underway

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , on December 10, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

After nearly four years without a new release, ambidextrous Sludge purveyors SAMOTHRACE were in Soundhouse Studios in their hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) to being the recording of their second LP.

SAMOTHRACE issued the following collective statement about the recording process: “Working on this album at Soundhouse Studios with Brandon Fitzsimmons is amazing. We were fortunate enough to use the Rolls Royce of analog tape machines. The sound of rolling thunder was an inspiration during the whole process. The songs are as soaring and turbulent as the last album, but a bit more mature. We can’t wait for its release and imminent touring to follow.”

The LP will tentatively bear two side-long tracks, “When We Emerged” and “A Horse Of Our Own.” The hymn “When We Emerged” originally appeared on the band’s 2007 demo in a much shorter and raw form, and has here been completely reworked and extended into a new song.

The album — its title still TBA — will be released by mid-2012 via 20 Buck Spin, who also released SAMOTHRACE‘s praised 2008 debut full-length, Life’s Trade. More info on the new album will be available in the coming weeks.

Check out video footage of the band performing some of the new material live this past Summer and more at this location.

THE PROPHECY 23 – Announces New Lineup

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , on December 9, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Rearmament of THE PROPHECY 23. The new weapons: MARIO (Bass) and PHIL (Death Vocals).

THE PROPHECY 23 is already presenting two new members while one or two are still speculating about the replacement of Tobias: MARIO MACARONI is following the 23rd Prophecy as their new bassist and PHIL HECKEL will unite his rough Death Vocals with the Thrash Vocals of Hannes to a powerful unit. The new guys already showed their unruly live-action during the “Tour The Pit 2010”, when they already stepped in for Tobias. Now they are officially in!

Hannes: “Phil and Mario are two extraordinary action-guys! After the shock of Tobias’ quit, we immediately realized who should be the replacement. Everything blends seamlessly into one another. We are currently working very hard and we almost have finished all our songs for the next record. More on this later.”

The last show with Tobias will take place on December 17th at X-MAS-ROCKT-Festival, Stauferhalle Bad Wimpfen. Get your pre-sale tickets now – info@theprophecy23.d

LIZZY BORDEN – MENACE TO SOCIETY

(METAL BLADE RECORDS)

Here’s a legendary Metal band that helped define our Metal community as we know and love it today. A Metal band that’s led by their lead vocalist of the same name: LIZZY BORDEN. You want to listen to a real Metal album? Then go buy or trade for their 1986 sophomore release: Menace To Society. It’s a Metal classic. It’s an essential Metal album in the history of Metal music.

If you are salivating for a potent dose of real Metal, this album will kick your Metal lovin’ ass to kingdom come. No, not the band Kingdom Come. (Lenny Wolf and his band F’n Rocks by the way). Um, back to LIZZY BORDEN. Look, their entire catalog kicks monumental Metal ass… I’m only recommending Menace To Society for the simple fact that I can’t stop playing it for the last few months.

BLOODDYY MAARRRYYY!

Call it Menace To Society dependence, call it what you will. I’m only calling out this tremendous Metal album of yesteryear to bring attention to what quality, real Metal sounds like. Here’s my review for Menace To Society: it kicks F’n Metal ass. Okay? Now, if you want to treat yourself right with a Metal purchase, I’m strongly suggesting you go out and get Menace To Society and thank the Metal Gods that LIZZY BORDEN created this album and are still kickin’ Metal ass to this very day. Metal be thy name.

EPICA – First Details On New Album!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, melodic metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, symphonic metal with tags , , , , , , on December 4, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Title of new Epica album released: Epica’s 5th full-length album which will be released on the 9th of March 2012 by Nuclear Blast will be called:

REQUIEM FOR THE INDIFFERENT

This title refers to the end of an era. Mankind can no longer stick their head in the sand for the things that are happening around us. We are facing many challenges. There is an enormous tension between different religions and cultures, wars, natural disasters and a huge financial crisis, which is getting out of control. More than ever we will need each other to overcome these problems. As we are all connected; the universe, earth, nature, animals and human beings, this period in time will be the prelude to the end for those who still don’t want to, or simply won’t see it. A REQUIEM FOR THE INDIFFERENT but also a possibility for a new beginning with great new chances!

Epica will present this album to the public on the 16th of March 2012, in 013, Tilburg (NL) tickets are still available but are going out fast!

Keep an eye on the official Epica website and social media for regular updates on REQUIEM FOR THE INDIFFERENT!

Christmas Album Covers – Let’s Have Some Fun Looking At ‘Em!

Posted in christmas, christmas albums, christmas rock albums, classic rock, classic rock albums, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on December 3, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Christmas Album Covers – I love the Christmas holiday. I dig giving more than receiving too. Really, I do. That is why I am giving you this list of Christmas album covers to laugh at, talk about and at times… gaze at. Maybe this list will encourage you to buy one of these Christmas albums? I dunno. The main Metal objective I have here is to have fun. So, without any further ado, let’s get the Christmas album cover party started!

Rockin’ Little Christmas

Since when is pile-driving your wife or girlfriend a “thing to do” at Christmas? Whoa.

MAYBE THIS CHRISTMAS

Maybe what? Maybe the power goes out on Christmas day? Maybe Bigfoot finally gets his beef jerky? At least this is a funny Christmas album cover. Okay, semi-funny.

Michael Buble’ – Christmas

I find this cover for Michael Buble’ Christmas to be rather, well, uncomfortable. You see, if I saw a dude in my neighborhood acting like this, I’d call the cops. A “stalking vibe” just screams out at me here. It looks like Michael is trying to squeeze out a last second fart, before he enters wherever he is going.

A VERY SHE & HIM CHRISTMAS

What was She & Him thinking here? They didn’t need to over-cool a cool look like that, to the point where it is not even cool at all. At least I think this cover is funny, in a non-cool way.

Classic Rockin’ Christmas

Whoa. I don’t trust that face on this Santa. A mean looking Santa. To me, it looks like this Santa had a bad day with the elves and now he’s looking for revenge. I’m just glad I don’t have anyone living nearing me who looks like this dude. By the way, I wouldn’t trust any egg nog he may be offering either.

Classic Rockin’ Christmas

Now this is the Classic Rockin’ Christmas I’m talkin’ about.

BOWLING FOR SOUP! MERRY FLIPPIN’ CHRISTMAS VOLUME I

Ha, ha, ha, ha! That’s so righteous man! Ahem. Whatever.

WE WISH YOU A HAIRY CHRISTMAS

Um, We Wish You A Hairy Christmas. Metal Odyssey is NOT supposed to be XXX here. I’m just the messenger, so please excuse me as I bust out in laughter from this Christmas album title. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. This is a compilation album of Christmas songs from a bunch of famous Hair Metal bands. Still, give me a Metal break.

WE WISH YOU A HAIRY CHRISTMAS

Now, this is a much more classier “look” than the previous We Wish You A Hairy Christmas album cover. The weird, plastic reindeer and huge candy cane are what makes this cover so damn memorable.

HEAVY METAL CHRISTMAS

Yes! This Christmas album cover is my favorite! Why? Cause it has “Heavy Metal” in it’s title and those Iron Maiden “like” fonts are the best! Plus, I can’t tell a Metal lie here… I’ve always been a HUGE admirer of Christmas decorative bows. Metal be thy name.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A METAL NIGHT.

RAGE – Artwork, Track List and Details On The New Album – 21!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on December 3, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

It’s heavy, fast, extreme – but at the same time virtuosic and melodic: the new RAGE album “21” (OUT: 24th of February 2012). Once again the CD was produced in the “Twilight Hall Studios” in Krefeld, Germany by Victor Smolski and Charlie Bauerfeind.

Peavy, vocalist and founder of the band, explains: “It may have already got about that our new album will come off pretty heavy. We’ve been bubbling over with creativity and it was huge fun to work on the songs – as always, it was real teamwork. Working with such fantastic musicians like Victor and André is great”.

At the past weekend, the CD was presented to an international group of journalists which were gobsmacked and delighted at the same time.

“21 sounds harsher and more virtuosic. The waiting time will be darn hard”, states Tobias Blum of Rock Hard Germany. Andrea Vignati of Italian Metal Hammer is even more enthusiastic: “This is a milestone for Rage’s future”.

The artwork of “21” was created by Felipe Machado (BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE u.a.) and represents the power RAGE are radiating in the year 2012.

The following tracks can be found on the CD:

House Wins

Twenty One

Forever Dead

Feel My Pain

Serial Killer

Psycho Terror

Destiny

Death Romantic

Black And White

Concrete Wall

Eternally

From March on, RAGE will be on tour under the slogan “Metal Firestorm“ together with their label mates COMMUNIC as well as TYR.

HULL Issue Tour Wrap-Up, Band To Open For EYEHATEGOD In Brooklyn This Sunday!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on December 2, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Brooklyn Sludge Rock sensations HULL recently returned from a pillaging month-long tour crumbling stages throughout the U.S. with their sonic wall of triple-guitar led, conceptual enormity. Bassist Sean Bryant Dunn recently posted an extensive tour wrap-up. An excerpt reads:

“First and foremost, The Fucking Wrath are amazing dudes! Wise are they in entering and sustaining the ‘Nite Zoo’ mentality. Ripping through the states with these boys was truly an honor and meeting them again could come no sooner. Sorry that merch dog Shimer had to deal with that crazy shooting in NOLA on Halloween. If only he had worn the Duke that road dog Hollis had donned for his warrior outfit, there would not have been any random violence. The situation would have been resolved quickly and with less innocent casualties.”
