Goregrind legends EXHUMED played their first U.S. show in over six years at the 2011 edition of the Maryland Deathfest and thanks to NPR, the set, in all its uncensored glory, is available for your consumption at THIS LOCATION.
EXHUMED released their All Guts, No Glory full-length earlier this year via Relapse Records. The record continues to reap critical acclaim from fans and critics nationally and has left it’s grisly mark on multiple Year End lists including Decibel, Pitchfork, NPR.org, MetalSucks and Skulls N Bones!
Said vocalist/guitarist menace Matt Harvey: “2011 has been a great year for the band. We’ve had a killer time scraping off the rust on the gore metal machine and getting back on the road and partying with necromaniacs all over the place. It’s amazing how many people have enjoyed our racket and have actually said nice things about our record – sometimes even in public! We have a lot of shit planned for next year and we’re chomping at the bit to continue subjecting the universe to more of our god awful noise! See you on the road…or at the bar. Play fast or die, dudes. Cheers!”

Currently, MINISTRY mastermind Al Jourgensen is finalizing the last mixes on the new material. Commented Jourgensen on the signing: “Our 13th Planet Record releases have been distributed in Europe via AFM through our partner Soulfood Music in Germany for several years now, and we have established a solid business relationship, so it made perfect sense to take the next step and have AFM Records come on board and be involved with the new Ministry release for worldwide and digital distribution. I’m pretty psyched about the collaboration, based on the response and enthusiasm I’ve received from AFM so far…”

The ceremony took place at Coop Katacombes on November 25 and 26 and included live rituals from some of black metal’s most esteemed creators.
Commented vocalist/guitarist Julien of the experience: “Thanks to [fest organizer] Martin [Marcotte; Sepulchral Productions] and the rest of the crew, we had the chance to play in front of an enthusiastic audience in Montréal for the first edition of Messe des Morts festival and share the stage with great local acts as well as international bands such as Absu, Inquisition and Angantyr. It sure does feel different than in Europe, for there is a definite hunger for our art and it’s an actual pleasure to bring the fire that we craft in good old Europe to the new continent and share it with the few, the extraordinary.”

Scythia – Folk Metal Band Releases Xmas Song: “…Of Santa”
Posted in christmas, christmas rock songs, christmas songs, folk metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags ...of santa, christmas, christmas rock songs, folk metal, heavy metal news, rock music news, scythia on December 20, 2011 by Metal OdysseyFolk Metal clan Scythia have released a holiday tune for fans called “…Of Santa”, which is now streaming on youtube at the following link here and can also be purchased at bandcamp here.
“Christmas has all the right elements of Folk Metal: it’s dark and wintry, it involves magic, and there’s plenty of ale and mead. This year, we figured it was time to pay homage to the season by creating our very own Scythian Christmas tale.” commented vocalist / guitarist Dave Khan.
In addition the 2011 year coming to an end, Scythia have been mentioned on a few Top 2011 lists for this year’s sophomore release “…Of Exile”.
Decibel Magazine named Scythia’s “Oboe of Death” the #2 of Top 5 Non-Metal Instruments on a 2011 Album. Check it out on pg #54 of Issue #87 Jan 2012.
So what is Scythia?
Taking its name from vocalist/guitarist Dave Khan’s infatuation with a painting of Nordic/Russian warriors riding bears while brandishing swords, Scythia not only “gives the painting musical significance,” but it is also “the name of an ancient empire spanning from the Caucasus through Russia, and even into eastern Scandinavia. The melodies used in our music have a very ancient, sometimes medieval sound, so I wanted to attribute them to an ancient civilization,” says Khan.
In 2010, Scythia released its debut, “…Of War” (originally with violin) which was produced by Shaun Thingvold who has engineered on projects with SYL, Fear Factory, Darkest Hour and many more. Now, following some line-up changes, Scythia have released their second album “…Of Exile”, again produced by Shaun Thingvold September 23, 2011.

SCORPIONS ‘COMEBLACK’ – Heavy Metal Legends Do It Their Way, On Album Of Covers & Re-Recordings

I realize there are fans who don’t applaud when a band makes an album of cover songs and I understand that. Personally, I enjoy hearing a band covering other band’s songs. I really am thrilled with Comeblack for more than half of this album is, essentially, the Scorpions covering themselves!
In my opinion, some of the re-recorded songs the Scorpions did for Comeblack are actually better than their own originals. I point to the first three songs on Comeblack to state my point: Rhythm Of Love, No One Like You and The Zoo. All three songs are outstanding Scorpions originals, yet on Comeblack each of these mentioned songs has a harder and edgier zeal to them, which I really dig, especially on one of my all-time favorites The Zoo. The harder energy on these three cover songs are so good and breathe some new life into them.
Unfortunately, I can’t state the same for the new versions of Rock You Like A Hurricane and Winds Of Change. I feel the original versions are superior to their re-recorded selves on Comeblack. Then again, these two songs are this iconic band’s biggest hits, so I imagine it would be almost impossible to improve on them. Blackout and Still Loving You are done well and both are very solid re-recordings. If there is one thing I would have done differently on this half of Comeblack, I would have included some of their lesser-known hits like Big City Nights, Alien Nation and In Trance and re-recorded them with the same updated heaviness.
Now for the cover songs. First of all, I find this a very interesting collection of songs to cover. For example, I was never a big fan of the song Tainted Love by the New Wave/Post-Punk band Soft Cell. Actually, I find it a very annoying song. Therefore, even before I heard this cover version by the Scorpions I was preparing to be disappointed. Man, was I surprised! The Scorpions came up huge here. What a terrific job the Scorpions did in creating what I would call a wuss of a song and transforming it into Metal!
Children of The Revolution and Tin Soldier are solidly done. Across The Universe is probably my biggest complaint, in terms of song selection for Comeblack. I can’t say I’m a big fan of this song. All Day And All Of The Night packs a good and Hard Rockin’ punch that I believe The Kinks would praise.
This brings me to the final song. The Scorpions end Comeblack with grand style! What do you get when you combine Klaus Meine, Metal guitar riffs by guitar legends Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs and a song written by The Rolling Stones? This is Scott Coverdale’s “Song Of The Year”: Ruby Tuesday. I can’t begin to tell you, just how much I love this cover version of Ruby Tuesday. After listening to this song over and over again, I’ve come to the conclusion that Ruby Tuesday was meant to be a Metal song and we’ve been delivered just that… 40 years later.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “We are beyond psyched to head to Brazil for the first time. We’ve been getting letters and emails from folks down there for years and it is going to be awesome to finally be able to play for those maniacs south of the equator. I know they’re ready for some serious gore fucking Metal and we can’t wait to deliver it to them!”

The band’s first new record in almost eight years offers up 11 choice cuts of grinding death metal and has turned up on multiple Year End lists including Decibel, Pitchfork, NPR.org, MetalSucks and Skulls N Bones! Metal Underground praised the release saying: “EXHUMED are back, hungry, vicious, and unrelenting,” while Decibel Magazine noted: “Everything seems more fluid and powerful, though as vicious as it all is, the focus remains on the composition and how it smacks the listener between the eyes.” Revolver agreed: “… fans of dripping blood, gaping autopsies, and ravenous zombies will absolutely adore this record.”
Added Aborted: “EXHUMED has not only strongly persisted over the last 20 years, but has also managed to simultaneously keep their musical integrity and brutal, gore-filled lyrics fully intact.

ORANGE GOBLIN – New Track Premiere Brought To You By Noisecreep
Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Hard Rock, heavy metal albums 2012, heavy metal news, orange goblin, orange goblin tour dates 2012, rock music news on December 15, 2011 by Metal OdysseyToday Noisecreep premieres “Red Tide Rising,” the opening track from ORANGE GOBLIN‘s forthcoming A Eulogy For The Damned full-length. Set for North American release on February 14, 2012 via Candlelight Records, A Eulogy For The Damned is the band’s seventh studio album (and first for Candlelight). The ten-track offering was recorded at The Animal Farm studio in South London, UK, produced and engineered by Jamie Dodd and mastered by two-time Grammy-nominated Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson at Tube Mastering.
Commented vocalist Ben Ward of the track: “‘Red Tide Rising’ was actually the first song we wrote for the new album and the main riff was written by [guitarist] Joe [Hoare] as far back as 2008. We all knew that this would be the lead song on the album as soon as we wrote it; it felt kind of special and it set the tempo and feel for the whole record. It’s one that we all had a lot of input on so it’s a real band effort and definitely wasn’t rushed. The ending must’ve been changed half a dozen times or so until we were all satisfied! It’s a very typical ORANGE GOBLIN song and I’m confident that it’s going to be a live favorite for many years to come. We’ve actually played it at the last few shows and despite no one knowing it, it got a great response. Lyrically, the song is a tribute to my fascination with the works of horror writer H.P Lovecraft. The theme centers around the rising of Cthulhu from the deep and the ultimate destruction of Earth and mankind. It was fun for me to use my imagination and be able to write about the Elder gods and the end of the world. I think it’ll make a great Heavy Metal video! The title was something I made up and we considered calling the album ‘Red Tide Rising’ for a while. It’s pretty self-explanatory with the idea of the oceans turning to blood and the beasts taking over for the dawn of a new dark age! We are all very proud of this track and honored to preview it with Noisecreep/AOL. With our annual Christmas show looming on Saturday, now seems like the perfect time to unleash this beast on the world!”
Check out “Red Tide Rising” HERE.

Now residing and re-establishing themselves in Toronto, Canada over the last 10 years, the band has announced the official release date of their debut album “Coils of Entropy” on February 7th, 2012.
“From the scorching heat of the Arabian deserts to the blistering cold of what we now call home, this debut album has literally and figuratively come a long way. The aged yet modern style of death metal with a subtle integration of Middle Eastern melodies is a perfect musical collaboration of our minds and souls. A ferocious ride with concepts and lyrical themes written around the observations of an entity witnessing the world and its demise through different eras and music that creeps up the caverns of your brain, be ready for a hybrid onslaught of technical mastery and blood curdling brutality. We firmly believe that it was well worth the wait but don’t take our word for it, give it a spin and determine that for yourselves. However, don’t cry when your speakers demolish your insides…you were warned…” comments Nephelium co-founder and drummer Alan Madhavan.

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS – Headlining Dates Begin Tonight, Nonstop Touring For Entire First Quarter Of 2012 Confirmed

Taking only a few weeks off after this run of dates, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS hit the road on another set of headlining performances on their way to provide direct support for Dark Funeral’s North American assault engulfing all of February, immediately followed by a full tour with Deicide through the end of March! A full list of tour dates is posted below.
ABIGAIL WILLIAMS‘ massive ongoing tour schedule is to pummel audiences with new material from the band’s new album, Becoming. Confirmed for release in North America on January 24, 2012, once again on Candlelight Records. The band’s third full-length Becoming is already stirring interest in the Metal media; its organic, churning tracks offering some stark contrast to previous ABIGAIL WILLIAMS releases. The first single from Becoming, “Ascension Sickness,” in its second week at radio has already broken the top 20 on CMJ (on a 11-minute single!). The track continues to get heavy requests and plays nationwide as the track continues to infect the masses. Stream “Ascension Sickness” right here.
Clocking in at nearly an hour in length, Becoming ushers in a provocative new chapter for the adventurous band. Containing six vast tracks, truly the band’s most expressive and complicated to date, Becoming was recorded in various warehouses throughout Los Angeles, with the lineup for the album including returning guitarist Ian Jekelis, studio drummer Zach Gibson (ex-The Black Dahlia Murder) and as always, vocalist/guitarist Ken Sorceron, who handled all mixing, mastering, production and engineering duties. View the cover art by infamous graphic artist Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Watain, Ulver, Nachtmystium, etc.) and more at this location. Preorders for the record are available from Candlelight.
Becoming Track Listing:
1. Ascension Sickness
2. Radiance
3. Elestial
