LAMB OF GOD – Just this morning, the March issue of Guitar World fell in my lap and I couldn’t be a happier Metalhead. Lamb Of God is the cover feature and I’m very excited over their new album – Resolution. Eventually I will write about why I am digging Resolution so much. Look for a post on Resolution in the coming week for sure.

There are some very cool articles in this new issue of Guitar World, so I’ll be looking to chill-out sometime this weekend and read ’em. Dweezil Zappa, Robby Krieger, Mastodon, Joe Satriani and a 2012 Reader’s Poll have all caught my eye while quickly browsing through this essential mag.

KOSHER METAL – Releases “The Kosher Komp Vol. 2” – And It’s A Free Download!

KOSHER METAL RELEASES ANOTHER COMPILATION ALBUM!

Southern California-based online Metal radio station Kosher Metal have released their second compilation album called “The Kosher Komp Vol. 2” via their website at http://koshermetal.com/kosher-komp

The compilation (along with Vol. 1) is available for free download and contains nearly 30 tracks from 16 unsigned and independent bands. An interactive PDF is included along with the compilation artwork. There is also a Limited Edition CD version available with only 150 copies made and individually numbered, for those who want something physical.

Kosher Metal founder and on-air personality ManJewky stated the following regarding the compilation series: “It’s a tough world out there for unsigned and independent Metal bands, but we at Kosher Metal are doing everything we can to help get these bands heard. I have been on both sides of the spectrum. I have been in bands but I’ve also done a lot of work on the business end of things. With all of my knowledge and experience, it would be a shame to let that go to waste. Besides, I want to be able to provide some opportunities that my old bands never had.”

SLIPKNOT, SLAYER and ANTHRAX – Headlining: 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival has 26 dates on its Metal journey across the United States this Summer of 2012! This Metal potent festival begins on June 30th at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California and finishes on August 5th at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut. Metal be thy name!

The main stage for this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will feature Slipknot, Slayer and a major special guest which will be announced on March 5th. The fourth slot on the main stage will feature a rotation of The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria.

In 2012 the tour has upgraded the production on the festival stage and this year the Jagermeister Stage will feature a special headline set by Anthrax supported by a rotation of The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria, along with Whitechapel, High On Fire and the Jagermeister opener. OVERKILL – Details On New Album ‘The Electric Age’ Revealed!

Legendary Thrash band, OVERKILL have announced their next full length entitled “The Electric Age” due out on Nuclear Blast March 30, 2012.

“The Electric Age” was recorded and mixed at Gain Studios in New Jersey, owned and operated by bassist D.D. Verni. This is the bands followup record to “Ironbound” released in 2010 which received much critical praise. Decibel Magazine went as far to add, “Call this Thrash, or whatever: to us, it’s just Metal. And damn good Metal, at that.”

VENOM – South America Festival News For 2012

As reported on The Official VENOM Website aka “The Official Website Of Black Metal”:

Venom’s Management have just announced that they are currently in negotiations with the 
Promoters of a fantastic new festival in Latin America called “Metal Open Air Brazil“.
The ‘M.O.A.’ Festival will be a 3 day event in Sao Luiz [Northern Brazil] and will take place between 20 to 22 April 2012.
The event is now attracting some big names including Venom who are looking to headline on Sunday 22 April 2012.

Also in South America, Chile are currently organising a festival called “The Metal Fest Chile” on 
28 April 2012. Venom have been invited to appear as ‘special guests’ to Anthrax.

METALLICA ‘Beyond Magnetic’ – North American Release On CD Is January 31st… Some Metal Thoughts

METALLICA – Yes, being the “old school” dude that I am, I’ve been holding out on buying the 4 song EP Beyond Magnetic from Metallica until it’s release on CD. It is cool of Metallica to go old school with a CD release, especially since there are only 4 songs and this is the era of digital downloads. I’ll add that it is a very cool gesture on the part of Metallica, by releasing material to get our minds off of Lulu. Metal be thy name about that.

Any regular visitor to Metal Odyssey knows I have a diverse taste for Rock, Hard Rock and of course Metal. However, there are those times when I draw the Metal line and Lulu was not going to have me flagging down the “open your mind for something different bus”. Metal as my witness, I’m not that easy.

I’ve never lost my Metal faith with Metallica, it’s just that this band has veered off into bizarre directions creatively in the past and I’m not going to love everything they’ve ever done. At the end of my Metal day on January 31st, this CD EP will be added to my Metallica collection… minus Lulu and St. Anger of course.

As for the four songs on Beyond Magnetic, as stated by Metallica on their website: “As a refresher, these four songs are the rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March of 2008”.

SKELETONWITCH ‘Forever Abomination’ – 5 Reasons Why You MUST Own This Extreme Metal Album

I bought this release on CD and it has served me right. Forever Abomination has kicked my Metal ass, many times over. I’m not bullshitting either. Below are 5 reasons why you MUST buy Forever Abomination.

Reason #1: SKELETONWITCH seamlessly unites Thrash and Death Metal grooves resulting in a Metal sound that is Skeletelextreme.

Reason #2: Chance Garnette. His vocals are drenched with Black Metal tones and he sings on this album at his most venomous best yet. Chance has to have steel reinforced vocal cords. How else could he sing at such an optimum level of aggression?

Reason #3: If you’re looking to have your ears and senses galvanized, then rest assured, Forever Abomination will have you staring into space as you wonder what just happened to you. Yes, you will yearn for more.

Reason #4: Musicianship. Extreme Metal musicianship at that. This band plays so heavy and fast that it’s staggering. All the while, not once do the songs embody any muddled parts. The intricacies are all there and SKELETONWITCH keeps evolving as a band.

Reason #5: The dark lyrics throughout Forever Abomination are a powerhouse unto this album. Combine these lyrics, with the scathingly fierce atmosphere from the Extreme wall of sound that you’ll experience and it’s Metal mind-boggling.

REZISTOR ‘Beware The Silent’ – FREE Album Download From Romanian Thrash Metal Battalion!

REZISTOR – I was recently contacted by a Metal/Thrash band from Romania (EU) known as: REZISTOR. This Thrash Metal Battalion wants YOU to hear their new album Beware The Silent and they are offering it for FREE! I really dig what I hear from the Thrash Metal noize of REZISTOR. These guys haven’t taken a page from Old School Thrash and Metal… they’ve studied the F’n text-book on it. While blending their own stylings to a raw and aggressive Thrash Metal approach that’s relevant, REZISTOR should not go unheard or unspoken! REZISTOR shouldn’t remain as an unsigned band for long. Any Metal record label, with an ear for raw Metal talent, should be checking out what REZISTOR has created here. Metal be thy name.

Here is some background information on Beware The Silent, as provided by REZISTOR:

“Beware the Silent” is Rezistor’s response to the society we live in: one governed by corrupted laws that chain the individual and alienate him from the fundamental human values. Its lifeforce is feeding on the dark energy boiling deep down inside each individual forced to obey unjust rules and punished for not blindly conforming to a shallow and artificial grey society.

The album features 8 songs: 7 with English lyrics and one in Romanian, with powerful and introspective lyrics. The cover artwork was created by Costin Chioreanu (Twilight13Media) and it represents a very personal and unique representation of the album’s lyrical content and atmosphere.

SEVEN ENDS – Signs To Massacre Records

SEVEN ENDS from Limburg, Netherlands, was formed in the darker months of 2007 by guitarist Ricardo, vocalist Jan and drummer Cor. Soon Noud joined the band, bringing thunder with his bass, together with Tim on guitar completing the band. Tim’s presence was not very long, after about a year he was replaced by Leon.

SEVEN ENDS’ musical style can be described as furious Thrash/Death Metal. Speed and aggressiveness are the main ingredients, all flavored with a hint of melody and a grooving touch to it.

Their first EP was recorded in 2008 and it was time to hit the stage. Reactions to EP and live performance were overwhelming from the start. SEVEN ENDS played live with bands such Legion of the Damned and Torture Squad, and in summer 2010 they got their chance at the legendary Wacken open air festival in Germany after winning the Dutch Wacken Metal Battle, among the greatest names around in metal and rock.

In 2011 SEVEN ENDS finished recording their first full length album, mixed and mastered by no other than Andy Classen (Legion of the Damned, Belphegor, Tankard).

“To The Worms” is scheduled to be released on March 23, 2012 via Massacre Records.

ONSLAUGHT: First Ever North American Tour Confirmed! March & April 2012!

Wake up North America… after three decades of waiting, British Thrash Masters ONSLAUGHT will cross the Atlantic for their first ever tour of the continent in March and April!

The 20-date trek gets underway in Seattle on March 19th and tramples its way across the continent ending in Brooklyn on April 7th. The band’s exclusive set for the tour spans their full back catalog, including Power from Hell, The Force, In Search of Sanity, Killing Peace and their lauded 2011 release Sounds of Violence. ONSLAUGHT will have direct support from all ex-Venom supergroup M-pire Of Evil for the entire tour, as well as Evil Dead on a slew of the West Coast dates.

HATE SQUAD: Sixth Album Set For North American Release On Massacre Records

Having won over audiences across Europe via major Metal/Hardcore tours and massive festival appearances since their 1993 inception, German Metalcore heavyweights HATE SQUAD will drop their newest full-length, Katharsis, onto North American audiences via Massacre Records this January 17th.

The Hannover-based quartet will kick off the new year with their sixth LP to date, surging with nearly an hour of the band’s pummeling blend of death metal and hardcore. Recorded and mixed by Ralf Müller at Rape of Harmonies Studios, produced by Müller and HATE SQUAD, and mastered by Olman Viper at Hertzwerk (Hamburg), the album clearly makes the listener aware that they are a force to be reckoned with in the new year, and once again prove why HATE SQUAD remain one of Germany’s leading Metalcore exports.

Recent News About Germany’s Brutal Thrash Metal Band: THE PROPHECY²³ 

THE PROPHECY²³ – After the overwhelming reviews of their first record “…To The Pit” and many crazy live-shows (i.a. WACKEN OPEN AIR 2011) THE PROPHECY²³ announce their second record GREEN MACHINE LASER BEAM.

It will be produced by Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner in the Kohlekeller Studios in January and February 2012. He already worked on chart-breaker like Crematory and Powerwolf. The second record of THE PROPHECY²³ will be released by MASSACRE RECORDS in spring/summer 2012. The cover artwork was again drawn by Marvin Clifford (MAD Magazine, etc.).

THRASHFEST CLASSICS – 2011 Video Documentary Online!

2011 saw one of the most exciting metal tours in a long time. THRASHFEST CLASSICS featured DESTRUCTION, EXODUS and SEPULTURA among others, performing just classic songs & sets. Needless to say the tour was a huge success! STORMBRINGER.AT visited the bands on the day of their final show in Austria and shot a short, interesting documentary about the tour – including statements of all participating bands.
