Longtime political hardcore/punk activists, DROPDEAD, have just released two brand new EPs via their own Armageddon Label, both of them split releases; one with RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA and the other withSYSTEMATIC DEATH.
Since 1991, Providence, Rhode Island’s DROPDEAD has protested humankind’s attrition towards the environment and its inhabitants, including each other, along the way amassing an impressive arsenal of fully independent releases, including several full-length studio and live LPs, and split releases with Crossed Out, Rupture, Totalitär, Unholy Grave, Suppression, Converge and others.
Having toured internationally, razing clubs, squats and basements on multiple continents for two decades, the band has been a major East Coast US contributor to inspiring entire new generations of extreme music fans to rise up against tyranny and injustice at maximum speed and aggression through their “fucking assholes don’t get it” credo. DROPDEAD‘s latest audio collapses come in the form of two new 7″ vinyl split releases with a pair of high-potency international acts.
One of these brutal head-to-head platters is with Vienna, Austria’s punk shredders, RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA, the female-fronted outfit raging in the riotous vein of Antischism, Capitalist Casualties, Los Crudos and Hellnation. The split leads with “A Fall Of Empires” and “Last Breath” from DROPDEAD on the A-side, and counters with “Donde Esta La Solucion,” “Asco” and “Blanco Y Negro” from RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA on the B-side.
The second new output comes in the form of theFighting For Life 7″ split with longtime Japanese punk/hardcore outfit, SYSTEMATIC DEATH. In existence since 1983 this outfit spews forth rabid political hardcore along the lines of Gauze, S.O.B.,Infest, GISM and Lärm, and here overthrows the B-side of the split with the tracks “Suji” and “Dashing,” while DROPDEAD overloads side A with their newest attacks in the form of “Foundation” and “The Final Chapter.”
Revolver Magazine is streaming the entire debut full-length from Cleveland quintet YOUTH FORGOTTEN, Ghost Of A Fallen Empire, as the band releases the album into the public today.
Unifying former members of Dead Even, Salt The Wound, Above The Fire, Chimaira and Integrity, YOUTH FORGOTTEN forges straightforward, energetic, metal/punk-fueled hardcore. A high-octane release with the bustling angst, recalling the energy of the 1990s punk/hardcore movements, Ghost Of A Fallen Empire is a forty-minute, action-packed release packed with ten anthems aimed at lethargic, fad-driven acts that pollute the current scene. Recorded with Rob Arnold of Chimaira, marking his debut as a producer, Ghost Of A Fallen Empire is now officially available digitally, while the band finalizes plans for the upcoming physical pressing of the album.
Weed out the weak and resurrect the Ghost Of A Fallen Empire at Revolver RIGHT HERE.
With tour plans for the coming months currently being devised, YOUTH FORGOTTEN’s hometown record release party for the album will go down tomorrow evening, the act joined by nine bands considered true allies including Fuck You Pay Me, Teddy Boys, Cholera, Aricebo, Cop Problem and more. Every paid head at the door will instantly receive a handmade CD version of Ghost Of a Fallen Empire crafted exclusively for this event.

Critical Praise:
“Brutal riffs, hardcore punk intensity, anthemic vocals, an ear for meaningful technicality, all combined with a live show that more than punctuates the sentiment- Youth Forgotten should prove a force to reckoned with in 2014.” – Blow The Scene
“Contender for album of the year. If rating is something I would do I would give this one 10 sticks of dynamite.” – Hard Times
“If their past success in the metal scene is any indication of things to come for this band, then audiences should take notice of this release. This is only a warm-up for Youth Forgotten and I can’t wait to see what’s next.” – Broken Neck Radio

On a seemingly endless live killing spree in 2013, noise/grind assailants FULL OF HELL have embarked on their next wave of live attacks on the two-week 14 Acts Of Audio Terrorism tour. The mayhem started last night in Bay Shore, Long Island with White Widows Pact and more, then plowing a counterclockwise warpath through Connecticut, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, North and South Carolina before closing down in Virginia, the last three dates of the tour alongside A389 labelmates Noisem. View the updated tour itinerary below and await more violent live action from FULL OF HELL in the coming weeks.
This week FULL OF HELL posted a video of their recent session for Toxicbreed’s Funhouse, where they get halfway through the chaotic set before blowing out the power to the entire building. View that, as well as their first official video for the track “The Lord Is My Light” and more RIGHT HERE.
Continuing to tour in support of their most damaging and scathing material to date — their second LP, Rudiments Of Mutilation, released in June via A389 Recordings – FULL OF HELL has been slaying audiences all year-long. 9/18/2013 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA w/ Noisem
Critical Praise:
“Full of Hell want to open wounds however they can. The four-piece is so focused on delivering bile-soaked fury that they’ll use nearly anything at their disposal. While most of the tracks are acrid flashes of grind and powerviolence, there are still treks through squeamish noise and torturous hardcore. Seems like there’s always new releases by these guys, but this is the best I’ve heard so far.” – Decibel
“…Rudiments of Mutilation is an incredible album that should not go unheard. It is sick, unnerving, excellently established, moody, violent, and one of the best damn records that will be put out this year. You want dark? Here it is motherfuckers. Eat it up. 9.5/10” – Metal Injection
“…this is the band’s finest work to date and as a statement, Rudiments truly serves as a moving monument to the inevitability and eternality of human suffering. 10/10” – American Aftermath
A389 Recordings this week proclaims the signing of Columbus, Ohio-based death-dealers EMPIRE OF RATS and the impending release of their vindictive self-titled debut full-length recording this Autumn.
A cast of warriors who have collectively done time in Palehorse, Under One Flag, Pitboss 2000 and countless others unify in their hateful talents in EMPIRE OF RATS, forming a devastating style which is a brutal reminder that heavy hardcore is alive and well. On their self-titled debut LP these scene-veterans have created a perfect record that is sincere, energetic and unapologetically pissed-off without coming off as paint-by-numbers, an eleven-anthem dose of metallic, unsuppressed aggression with a style that will inspire fans of Hatebreeed, 100 Demons, Cold As Life, Ringworm, Crucified, Homewrecker and the like to seek street revenge on their enemies in no time. Bearing cover art by Linas Garsys, the deal is sealed and now A389 will release the album via download and 12” vinyl on October 1st, 2013.

COUNTERPARTS has the Hardcore world waiting in anticipation for their third studio album, The Difference Between Hell and Home, which is set for a July 23rd release. Heartbreaking and honest, chaotic yet purposeful, fans can expect the same spitting aggression and emotive lyricism they’ve come to appreciate from COUNTERPARTS, magnified and turned all the way up.
Vocalist, Brendan Murphy comments, “There was so much preparation, thought, hard work, whatever you want to call it put into this record. We spent more time on these songs than I can even remember, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. It’s everything we’ve ever done so far, but better. If you give a shit about Counterparts, you will like this record.”

ARSON ANTHEM – Released on October 12, 2010, on Housecore Records, Insecurity Notoriety is the first full-length album from Arson Anthem. A Hardcore band of enormous Punk aptitude, Arson Anthem is, no matter how you slice or dice it… a Hardcore supergroup. With Phil Anselmo on guitar and needing little to no introduction, his years fronting the iconic Pantera is unequivocally legendary, not to mention his years vocalizing with Sludge Metallers known as Down.
Mike IX Williams on vocals is also the front man for the Sludge Metal warriors – Eyehategod. Hank Williams III has brandished his very own successful solo career and played alongside Phil Anselmo with Superjoint Ritual. Hank also has molded and brought to underground fame his Metal meets Punk band called… Assjack. Collin Yeo rounds out Arson Anthem on bass, coming from his alt-heavy band… PonyKiller.
So, it is fair to think, that Arson Anthem won’t be making their Grammy Awards performance debut anytime soon. This is why Hardcore exists, this is why Arson Anthem exists, to shove it in the face of the mainstream lovin’ and tuxedo wearin’ Grammy crowd. That same crowd who would probably cry and break out in puffy-red hives if Arson Anthem strolled down their red carpet. Blue collar, street and pissed off about somethin’, this is why I dig Hardcore and Arson Anthem. Accept it or go hide behind your stacks of Wall Street Journals. Once you put this new Arson Anthem CD into whatever “machine” your using, just know that the “stick it to the man” warning light just went on.
There are 17 songs on Insecurity Notoriety and 12 of them are under two minutes long. This is Hardcore and in your face, brutal and unforgiving of any insult to injury. Listening to this album is a lesson in quick release rage therapy. Arson Anthem has accomplished a remarkable task in keeping themselves sounding original. Arson Anthem’s reverence for Old School, with thick slivers of Punk fueled outbursts and playing for keeps, dramatically elevates the totality of their barbed wire hardness. This is a band that obviously knows where their Black Flag vinyl is kept.
Hank Williams III doesn’t just play the drums on these songs, he decimates them. Mike IX Williams doesn’t sing, are you kidding? Mike rants and screams his vocal chords inside-out. Collin Yeo doesn’t try to keep timed rhythm while playing bass, instead, he pummels his strings into frantic rhythmic chaos that might just open up the center of the Earth. Then there is Phil Anselmo on guitar, exhibiting some mighty riffs that cover the Extreme Metal spectrum. Phil leads by Hardcore example, with his axe attack teetering on the insane, he will even throw in some micro solos, making a song like Crippled Life seem as if it is going to explode it’s pissed off attitude straight from hell.
When Extreme combines with Hardcore, Punk and Metal, the only thing that can come out of it is a profoundly brutal piece of work. Arson Anthem has taken their Extreme Music roots and latched them upon their instruments, to create their first full-length that makes a pummeling statement. This is a crushing work of Extreme art that is Arson Anthem’s Insecurity Notoriety.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA – From the initial sounds of an angry thunderstorm hovering upon you on the opening track Escape, The Devil Wears Prada proves there is no room for watering down a concept EP that revolves around… Zombies. Zombie EP, released on August 24, 2010, on Ferret Records, is for all Metal intents and purposes Extremely Heavy.
All five songs are about Zombies and the nightmare of having them take over humanity. Zombies… that’s Metal. The Devil Wears Prada makes it very apparent that they are Metal as well, based on their extremities of speed and heaviness, combined with vocals that quite possibly could bring Mount St. Helens down to its fiery knees. Metal be thy name, can Mike Hranica belt out the lyrics with the upmost Hardcore potency, while making me feel like I really should be scared about these damned Zombies.
If there ever was any doubt that a Metalcore band could pull off an amazingly Extreme Metal EP of the harshest degree, then the The Devil Wears Prada makes me a believer. This young band has given me every reason to believe they will be around for another ten or twenty years from now… while never lending themselves to being just another number on the long list of Metalcore star gazers. What makes Zombie EP so real for me, is it’s sheer intensity that never caves into a dull moment. Metal be damned, just try to fast forward through any one song on Zombie EP and you are short-changing yourself from the total relentlessly Extreme package.
I can completely embrace what The Devil Wears Prada has accomplished with this Zombie EP. Yes, their fusion of Extreme Music genres is worthy of raucous applause, only the haunting Zombie concept just seems to fit so perfectly with their ferocity of sound, that in turn envelopes the mind and senses so seemlessly well. All the key elements of Extreme Metal and Hardcore are ever apparent with The Devil Wears Prada. To lump this band into a Metalcore only bucket is a result of not listening to what they play. From the blast beats to a guitar tandem spilling out memorable heavy riffs while mixing up Death Metal caliber grooves, the melodic shades of this band do spill out onto their songs by some amazing miracle.
My recommending The Devil Wears Prada to Metal, Hardcore and Extreme Metal fans is an easy thing to do. Giving this band a listen and experiencing their fired up energy and Extreme sound on this EP might just serve many a Metalhead right… both young and old. Just the front cover photo of this Zombie EP gives off enough scary vibes to last an hour. There is something about those sinister power lines, amid the backdrop of a fog filled landscape and greying sky… that’s Zombieville if I ever saw it. The liner notes contain excellent creepy and macabre photography as well, along with the back cover to this Zombie EP, (see pic below).
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA:
Mike Hranica – vocals & lyrics
Chris Rubey – guitars
Jeremy DePoyster – guitars & vocals
Daniel Williams – drums
James Baney – keys & synth
Andy Trick – bass

ARSON ANTHEM – The first “full length” studio album from ARSON ANTHEM – Insecurity Notoriety, will be released on October 12, 2010, on Phil Anselmo’s very own… Housecore Records. The triple threat combination of Hardcore, Thrash and Punk are what you can expect from ARSON ANTHEM… with the onslaught of Hardcore dominating their music. Sure, you can call ARSON ANTHEM a “supergroup” based on their incredible lineup, only this is a band that brings it Hard… Heavy… and F’n Hardcore! No bullshit found in the music of ARSON ANTHEM.
*As Phil Anselmo has stated about Insecurity Notoriety: “This is vicious Hardcore, so trip out on this record!” – (Hard Rock Hideout Interview, September 20, 2010)
ARSON ANTHEM:
Mike IX Williams – vocalist
Phil Anselmo – guitars
Hank Williams III – drums
Collin Yeo – bass guitar
* Brief Metal career background on the members of ARSON ANTHEM:
Phil Anselmo has forged in Metal, his legendary career as lead vocalist for the iconic Pantera. Phil is the vocalist for the kick-ass and Louisiana born Metal Band – Down. Superjoint Ritual and Christ Inversion are just two more past bands that Phil has been a driving force behind. Mike Williams is the lead vocalist for the Metal Band – Eyehategod. Hank Williams III played bass for Superjoint Ritual and is a vocalist/guitarist for his very own Metal/Punk Band – Assjack. Collin Yeo heads up his eerie and alternatively contagious band – PonyKiller.
