Dallas Death Metal battalion CLERIC will crush the weak with their disparaging debut LP, Gratum Inferno, through their local cohorts at independent waxmongers Tofu Carnage Records this fall; the label now confirming the street date for the record as September 26th.
Formed by members of Kill the Client, Baring Teeth, and Tyrannosorceress, CLERIC fuses their old-school Death Metal aggressive tendencies here into a relentless attack, which their Gratum Inferno LP attempts to capture in full-force. Recorded by Garry Brents (Kill The Client, Phobia, Noisear) and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (From Ashes Rise, Nails, Sleep), Gratum Inferno boasts nearly a half-hour of grating, Stockholm-bred but Americanized death through seven hymns of debauchery, bizarre, haunting and horror-soundtrack elements permeating from deep within its hellish core.
The platter is being pressed on 200-gram, translucent yellow wax with blood-red and milky clear splatter and features heavyweight spot-varnish printed jackets, gold foil-stamped inner-sleeve graphics, was mastered at 45rpm for superior sound quality, and bears insane cover art masterminded by JasonBarnett (Noothgrush, etc.).

Stay tuned for the band’s hellfire-strewn first video to be released shortly. Additionally, CLERIC has locked down new live actions across Texas over the coming months with more being confirmed all the time. looking forward towards the turn of the year, they’ll infiltrate audiences beyond the region with more extensive tour plans… stay tuned.
Featuring members of various other collectives including Made Out Of Babies, Thursday, Red Sparowes, Pigs, United Nations, Goes Cube, Mussels and Kiss It Goodbye, STRANGELIGHT was forged in a small basement studio. While their past and current bands share little in common, STRANGELIGHT – Brendan Tobin, Cooper, Kenneth Appel, John Niccoli and Geoff Rickly – share an adoration for all things angular, discordant, rhythmic and driving.
Drawing heavily upon DC visionaries, Amphetamine Reptile destroyers and Touch & Go noisemakers and named in honor of a track off Fugazi’s last record, The Argument, STRANGELIGHT offers up all the signature makings of an early ’90s Dischord band: Drums and bass rumble along like a tornado. The guitars stab their way out of the mix like broken glass. The fact that they’re not distorted only makes them heavier. The vocals, mumble, shout, indict and accuse. Anyone with a deep record collection will understand that STRANGELIGHT aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel, just taking the dust jackets off the old classics and melting the vinyl down for fun.
STRANGELIGHT will release their debut EP, 9 Days, on October 1, 2013 via Brooklyn-based Sacrament Music. Written and recorded at Tobin’s own Ice Cream Audio in Brooklyn, New, York in just nine days (hence the title), 9 Days is an honest and simple name for a simple, honest record.
BAT Stats: Primitive Metal Punk power trio featuring Ryan Waste from Municipal Waste on bass and vocals, Nick Poulos from Volture on lead guitar and Felix Griffin from D.R.I on skins.

AMBUSH was released back in September, 2012, in North America, via Rocksector Records. Ambush was directed and engineered by the also legendary Chris Tsangarides.
Floridian psychedelic noise weavers, ORBWEAVER, recently dropped their brain-fraying Strange Transmissions from the NeuralnomiconEP upon unsuspecting masses. Christened “twitchy, trippy tech death” by Invisible Oranges, the five-track Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon is a harrowing, multifaceted sound voyage through modulating realities recorded at Miami’s Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed).
ORBWEAVER spiral’s through the realms of psychedelia, noise, and a warped interpretation of Death Metal. Shifting between these erratic, trance-like elements, the foursome produce cosmic pandemonium reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled chaos. Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon was released earlier this month in alimited run of 100 cassette tapes via Primitive Violence Records:
Also available on CD direct through the band. The record is also available digitally via their official BandCamp page where you can twist your cranium to Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon in full. Point your browser here:
ORBWEAVER was forged n 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro (ex-Hate Eternal, Gigan) and drummer Mike Pena. Together they recorded a self-titled, three-song demo. Shortly after, lead guitarist Sally Gates (ex-Gigan) and bassist Jason Ledgard joined the fold. Mike Pena parted ways with the group in 2013, and was replaced by drummer/percussionist ScottSpasiano.
The band will continue their stampede through the Sunshine State with another round of live takeovers. Additional shows to be announced in the coming weeks. Can’t make it to Florida? Peep the band’s new tripped out video for “Tragic Orbit: A Doomed Cosmic Star Ship” below:
“…off-the-wall structureless noise tech that borders on the type of irreverence built by instrumental group Behold The Arctopus with insane space atmospherics.” – HeavyBlogIsHeavy
“Their uniqueness is engaging, but the fortitude of it is what really grasps you. With how immense and bizarre their spacey effects are, you will find yourself dumbfounded by the intensity of it. ” – The Age Of Metal
“…deranged, psychedelic death metal hurdling through space at speeds that make The Millennium Falcon look like your little sister’s moped.” — Orlandooom.com
Venom are currently in the studio adding the final touches to their new album. The album is being scheduled for release through UMG [Spinefarm Records] in early 2014. [ we will bring more information and album / song titles soon ]
Dante commented: “The new songs are sounding amazing, the whole album has a great feel. I’d say the strength of this band comes from our determination to create great music, and that comes from forward thinking, new ideas and fresh challenges”.
Cronos continued: “I believe this is Venom at it’s best, the song writing keeps getting better, and the live shows are tighter and heavier than ever. It’s clear to me now that all of the line up changes this band has been through over the years, has been an inspiring journey to find the right band of warriors. Venom continue to keep growing stronger, and unstoppable”.
SABATON were supposed to play a show in Russia next weekend. Now political people and organizations are trying to prevent the band from entering Russia due to some uneducated politician who tries to convince the Russian immigration and government that SABATON are nazis.
SABATON now released the following statement:
Did the Nazis win the battle of Stalingrad?
We have been reached by the news that some organizations and political representatives who claims to have studied us has come to the conclusion that Sabaton are a nazi band, and because of that our scheduled appearance at the 70th anniversary of the battle of Stalingrad should be cancelled. This show is to take place in a few weeks in Volgograd.
Further, these people believe that we will desecrate the Russian flag during our concert (which we have never done and of course have no intention of doing) and they are now trying their best to ban Sabaton from all of Russia!!!
We know that the people of Russia is far more intelligent than this and thus we hope that reason will allow us to play this concert in honor of this historical event and the Soviet soldiers who fought for their freedom.
Sabaton is and has always been a NON-POLITICAL and NON-RELIGIOUS band and holds a lot of respect to the veterans of war and the heroic and non-selfish acts that was performed in a time of need.
Ps. It should be noted that Sabaton has been awarded honorary membership of the “Scions of the 17th Airborne Division”, an organization that consists of veterans from the very same airborne division who fought against the nazis in “The battle of the Bulge” and “Operation Varsity”.

Cruz Del Sur Music will release Beyond the Martyrs, from US Doom Metal outfit ARGUS, on October 1st in North America, with an October 7th release in the UK.
Beyond the Martyrs starts where their 2011’s release Boldly Stride the Doomed had left us…at the Ruins of Ouroboros. In between these two releases ARGUS has tested its strength and valor in several live shows both in their homeland and in Europe, receiving high praises from fans and from the record industry. Although a sense of impending fate marks again their compositions, the characteristic Doom Metal elements which were a distinguished trademark of ARGUS’ past releases have now given way to what is primarily to a genuine Heavy Metal approach, its nature rooted in the most classic environment of Heavy Metal tradition.
ARGUS’ third album is sure to force Metal Heads everywhere to raise horn-crested fists to the sky. Beyond the Martyrs contains the hallmarks of their previous works – twin guitars, soaring vocals, and a driving rhythm section; it is heavy, melodic, epic, and brooding all at once. After their successful shows at festivals such as Hammer of Doom in 2011 and Dublin DoomDays in 2012, the band will hit again the European soil with a proper tour in October 2013 in order to promote Beyond the Martyrs.
Beyond The Martyrs – Track Listing:
1. By Endurance We Conquer
2. No Peace Beyond The Line
3. The Hands of Time Are Bleeding
4. Trinity
5. Four Candles Burning
6. The Coward’s Path
7. Cast Out All Raging Spirits
8. Beyond The Martyrs
ARGUS:
Butch Balich – vocals
Jason Mucio – guitar
Erik Johnson – guitar
Andy Ramage – bass
Kevin Latchaw – drums
ABOUT ARGUS:
Pennsylvania’s ARGUS stormed onto the underground Metal scene with their twin guitar-driven, doom-tinged, working class Metal sound. Releasing a self-recorded demo in early 2007 on John Brenner’s (Revelation/Against Nature) DIY label, Bland Hand Records, the band was roundly welcomed by the Metal community at home as well as abroad and established its foundation amongst friends/fans within the scene. With this initial momentum, the band created a buzz that was only solidified by their punishing live performances.
Their self-titled debut album was released in May of 2009, receiving much critical praise. Following, was the 2011 release of the epic album BoldlyStride The Doomed, which also marks a switch to the record label, Cruz DelSur. The band has continued to gain notoriety, traveling abroad and around the U.S. The release of their third full-length album, Beyond TheMartyrs, is staged for release in October 2013.
MASADA – Kick-ass name for a Death Metal band? Um… okay. Check. Kick-ass cover artwork for MASADA’sHideous Rot EP? Check. Kick-ass city where MASADA calls home? It’s Philadelphia and… check. Kick-ass underground Death Metal that MASADA wants to punish ALL of our Metal community’s senses with? Check.
If all you crave is underground Metal and Death Metal is your obsession, MASADA’s bludgeoning wall of sound will no doubt beat your eardrums and any brain cells that are still functioning into a pulp! My Metal brethren, this is MASADA. No smoke or dumb-ass mirrors happening on HideousRot; just backwoods, back alley and dark as hell, retro Death Metal.
Fluteotherapy sounds like MASADA kidnapped the legendary Ian Anderson and kept him in a cellar, forcing him to play his flute while surrounded by piles of dead corpses. A macabre listen it is… freaky and psychotic. MASADA came up with it and it truly creeps me out. Cool.
Suffer Mental Decay is my favorite song. A sensational song title it is. It’s brilliant with all of its repulsive vocals and horrid vibes. Very cool. ToxicUnreality when played super fucking loud is like being hit in the face with soaking and scalding hot burlap bags. Aw hell, I’ve never really been hit with soaking and scalding hot burlap; only the description befits my Metal point.
Hideous Cerebral Pulp and Exist To Rot round out this Hideous Rot EP and both songs are like the spinning back kick to your face that you didn’t see coming. Both of these songs rage in their simplicity and this entire EP rages with its middle finger pointing right at expensive production costs. Let every Death Metal garage band know that there is a beacon they can follow to the dark side and it’s the underground disturbance known as MASADA. Metal be thy name.
MASADA HIDEOUS ROT – Track Listing:
Hideous Cerebral Pulp
Fluteotherapy
Exist To Rot
Suffer Mental Decay
Toxic Unreality
For all of you Metal trivia lunatics out there, I looked up the definition of MASADA and here it is:
The site of the ruins of a palace and fortification built by Herod the Great on the southwestern shore of the Dead Sea 1st century BC
Portland punk metal hellions, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, are pleased to unleash their most volatile offering to date. Titled Chemistry ofConsciousness, the devious new full-length spews forth eleven tracks of revved up, road-raging bestial devastation. Chemistry Of Consciousness was recorded by the band, mixed with Kurt Ballou (Converge) at his own GodCity Studio and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering.
Chemistry of Consciousness is the sound of Discharge on speed, Slayer with a punk rock chip on its shoulder, The Exploited on a Metallica overdose. It is the perfect marriage of punk angst and metal guitar hooks. If there’s one thing the punks and the heshers will agree on in 2013, it’s that TOXIC HOLOCAUST’sChemistry of Consciousness is a rager of a record destined to top any worthwhile best of 2013 list. Recommended for devout followers of Municipal Waste, DRI, Sodom, Midnight, GBH etc.
Chemistry Of Consciousness will detonate in North America on October 29 (October 25 in Benelux/DE/Finland and October 28 in UK/World).
Further TOXIC happenings, including preorder packages and live takeovers, to be announced in the coming weeks.
ANTHRAX – Any red-blooded Metalhead knows that the (unreal) legendary ANTHRAX likes to have some extra fun with their Metal; and this goes back to those golden years of the 80’s. With Anthems, ANTHRAX definitely exhibits their appetite for Classic Rock with contagious and Heavy Rockin’ fun once again! With 6 cover songs, along with their original studio version of Crawl and a Crawl Remix, ANTHRAX have delivered a doozie of an EP to their fans (like myself).
ANTHRAXdoesn’t cover these Rock classics with a Thrash Metal attack, as I had expected they would; instead ANTHRAX stays quite true to the original’s structures and gives these songs a much more harder, heavier and energetic push. Joey Balladonna just has an incredible knack for sounding like he should have been a huge Classic Rock star back in the glorious ’70’s. Joey Belladonna sounds grand on every song, from top-to-bottom.
Above: Digipak Cover Art
The entire band grabs ahold of Anthem, TNT, Smokin’, Keep On Runnin’, Big Eyes and Jailbreak as if they truly thought this entire project over for years. There’s never a point where I wince or question as to why ANTHRAX have chosen to play these classics in such a classic way. Crawl (from 2011’s Worship Music) fits right into the mix of these Classic Rock gems. I guess I never listened upon Crawl as being such a genuine Classic Rock song, up until now. The CrawlRemix is given much higher vibes, courtesy of the orchestration from Michael Lord.
ANTHRAX have proven to my ears their sincere appreciation for the Classic Rock era with Anthems. If you’re as loyal to the classics and ANTHRAX as I am, then this EP is an absolute, 100% must! ANTHRAX is a band that should be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame… NOW! Metal be thy name.
