BLACK BREATH: Seattle Savages Go On The Attack With Second LP In Early 2012

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on January 6, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Seattle’s barbaric wrecking crew BLACK BREATH have completed their second LP and are preparing to fire it point-blank into the public’s face this March. The forthcoming new platter, dubbed Sentenced to Life, is the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s raging 2010 debut album, Heavy Breathing, which blew away fans of both hardcore-fueled Rock and Roll and crushing Swedish Death Metal internationally.

Now in 2012, BLACK BREATH‘s neck-snapping Sentenced To Life projects an even more vile, Metallic sonic attack than its predecessor, bearing is a bit less rock and roll swagger and a showcasing more full-on crushing rage. The album is a product of furious creativity jammed into a short span of time, written in the seemingly endless Winter after returning from their November 2010 European tour.

Bearing 10 thunderous tracks in under 33 minutes, Sentenced To Life features such smashing BLACK BREATH hits as “Feast of the Damned,” “Doomed,” “Forced Into Possession,” “Home of the Grave” and of course the title anthem “Sentenced to Life.” The band once again recorded at God City Studios with Kurt Ballou, and had the finished product mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side. Easily the band’s most thunderous recording to date, BLACK BREATH sentence every listener to a life of headbanging after spinning this motherfucker!

Sentenced To Life will burst into stores and distros for public armament in March 2012. A final release date, full track listing, cover art and preview of the new album will be announced in the weeks ahead.

SEVEN ENDS – Signs To Massacre Records

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal, thrash metal bands with tags , , , , , , on January 4, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SEVEN ENDS from Limburg, Netherlands, was formed in the darker months of 2007 by guitarist Ricardo, vocalist Jan and drummer Cor. Soon Noud joined the band, bringing thunder with his bass, together with Tim on guitar completing the band. Tim’s presence was not very long, after about a year he was replaced by Leon.

SEVEN ENDS’ musical style can be described as furious Thrash/Death Metal. Speed and aggressiveness are the main ingredients, all flavored with a hint of melody and a grooving touch to it.

Their first EP was recorded in 2008 and it was time to hit the stage. Reactions to EP and live performance were overwhelming from the start. SEVEN ENDS played live with bands such Legion of the Damned and Torture Squad, and in summer 2010 they got their chance at the legendary Wacken open air festival in Germany after winning the Dutch Wacken Metal Battle, among the greatest names around in metal and rock.

In 2011 SEVEN ENDS finished recording their first full length album, mixed and mastered by no other than Andy Classen (Legion of the Damned, Belphegor, Tankard).

“To The Worms” is scheduled to be released on March 23, 2012 via Massacre Records.

SEVEN ENDS:

Jan Bieseman – Vocals

Ricardo Carta – Guitars

Leon Vinders – Guitars

Noud van Erp – Bass guitar

Cor Niessen – Drums

NEPHELIUM – Announce Release Date For “Coils Of Entropy”, Reveal Artwork & Track Listing

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on December 14, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Dubai may be known as a city rich in history, a business hub and the home of the tallest structure in the world, but it’s also the birthplace of one of the first Death Metal bands to come out of the Middle East, Nephelium. Now residing and re-establishing themselves in Toronto, Canada over the last 10 years, the band has announced the official release date of their debut album “Coils of Entropy” on February 7th, 2012.

“From the scorching heat of the Arabian deserts to the blistering cold of what we now call home, this debut album has literally and figuratively come a long way. The aged yet modern style of death metal with a subtle integration of Middle Eastern melodies is a perfect musical collaboration of our minds and souls. A ferocious ride with concepts and lyrical themes written around the observations of an entity witnessing the world and its demise through different eras and music that creeps up the caverns of your brain, be ready for a hybrid onslaught of technical mastery and blood curdling brutality. We firmly believe that it was well worth the wait but don’t take our word for it, give it a spin and determine that for yourselves. However, don’t cry when your speakers demolish your insides…you were warned…” comments Nephelium co-founder and drummer Alan Madhavan.

Samples from Nephelium’s six-track masterpiece that forges the perfect balance between Technical Death Metal, Old School Metal and Arabian melodies are presently streaming on their bandcamp page at the following link here.

THE PROPHECY 23 – Announces New Lineup

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , on December 9, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Rearmament of THE PROPHECY 23. The new weapons: MARIO (Bass) and PHIL (Death Vocals).

THE PROPHECY 23 is already presenting two new members while one or two are still speculating about the replacement of Tobias: MARIO MACARONI is following the 23rd Prophecy as their new bassist and PHIL HECKEL will unite his rough Death Vocals with the Thrash Vocals of Hannes to a powerful unit. The new guys already showed their unruly live-action during the “Tour The Pit 2010”, when they already stepped in for Tobias. Now they are officially in!

Hannes: “Phil and Mario are two extraordinary action-guys! After the shock of Tobias’ quit, we immediately realized who should be the replacement. Everything blends seamlessly into one another. We are currently working very hard and we almost have finished all our songs for the next record. More on this later.”

The last show with Tobias will take place on December 17th at X-MAS-ROCKT-Festival, Stauferhalle Bad Wimpfen. Get your pre-sale tickets now – info@theprophecy23.d

Metal Odyssey’s Top Ten METAL Songs Of 2011

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, heavy metal songs, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , , , , on December 1, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Metal Odyssey’s Top Ten Metal Songs of 2011 – My name is Stone and I listen to Metal. I write about Metal. I live for Metal. On this December 1st of 2011, I present to you the Top Ten Metal Songs that left the biggest impression on me during 2011. These ten Metal songs will always maintain a lasting impact on me. With the remaining month of December left, I could not foresee any one song being replaced on this list. My Metal decisions cannot be swayed. Before this list begins, I have included a Metal song as an Honorary Mention:

THE RODS – The Code (Featuring Ronnie James Dio)

(Niji Entertainment)

David “Rock” Feinstein has given an admirable tribute to his late and legendary cousin Ronnie James Dio with the addition of this song on THE RODS 2011 release: Vengeance. I remember buying this CD in the early Summer and being ecstatic that Ronnie James Dio was singing lead on The Code. It’s amazing how strong a song can come across to me and it’s due to the timeless vocals of Ronnie James Dio.

Ronnie sounds like the Metal icon he always was and shall forever be on The Code, with the spirit of Traditional Metal being swirled about by THE RODS. A double fist to the air vibe that came over me, as I listened to The Code for the first time, felt so damn cool for me. I’m certain I’m not alone in how I feel about this song either. Rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio.

#10

FAIR TO MIDLAND – Musical Chairs

(eOne Music)

Why I dig Fair To Midland so damn much is no one really knows what genre of Metal they really are. Alternative Metal? Check. Extreme Metal? Check. Um, Melodic Metal? Yup. To embrace this band’s sound is to accept the fact that these guys love music and know how to mix-it-up with Metal splendor. Musical Chairs from their Arrows & Anchors album is a sensational listen into what Modern Metal will sound like in five years. Fair To Midland can be considered… ahead of their time.

#9

KATANA – Rebel Ride

(Listenable Records)

From Sweden, comes KATANA. At approximately 2:54 long, Rebel Ride is an unmistakable Metal ride to hear! This song is short and gets to the Metal point, with duo guitars driving this song, coupled with its pumped-up power vibes that take you to a psyche-you-out level of Metal enlightenment. Rebel Ride is heard on the outstanding 2011 debut album from KATANA: Heads Will Roll.

#8

PENTAGRAM – Call The Man

(Metal Blade Records)

Bobby Liebling and PENTAGRAM returned on Metal Blade Records in 2011, with Last Rites. I wrote back on August 23rd: “Listening to Call The Man and this entire album is like getting psyched-out by a late night thunderstorm, there’s just no other way for me to explain it”. Doom pioneers = PENTAGRAM. Metal be thy name.

#7

SARAH JEZEBEL DEVAThe Corruption Of Mercy

(Listenable Records)

The title track from Sarah Jezebel Deva’s sophomore studio album The Corruption Of Mercy is hauntingly soothing, Gothic and never fails to mesmerize me. Is it Sarah’s vocals that casts such a magical Metal spell upon me? Yes. Yes again. Oh, her band plays exquisite Metal too. I’ve heard my share of female fronted bands in Metal and Sarah Jezebel Deva is one of the best at what she does in 2011. Take that to the Metal bank and tell ’em Stone sent you.

#6

SCHEEPERS – Saints Of The Rock

(Frontiers Records)

What would a Metal Odyssey Top Ten METAL song list of 2011 be without Ralf Scheepers? I wasn’t gonna be the one to tell Ralf he didn’t make the list. Instead, Ralf Scheepers is spotlighted at #6 with Saints Of The Rock from his star-studded solo album: SCHEEPERS. Nuthin’ beats a Heavy Metal anthem and nuthin’ beats a kick-ass Heavy Metal anthem. Saints Of The Rock has kicked my Metal lovin’ ass since the first time I’ve heard it. So let it be Metal written, so let it be Metal told.

#5

SPEED\KILL/HATE No Remorse

(HAMMERFIST RECORDS)

It was a close call with determining this selection. You see, SPEED\KILL/HATE have ten Thrash songs on their debut album, Out For Blood, that are each capable of tearing your Metal soul apart, while having you exclaim: Thank you sirs, may I please have more of your Extreme Thrash Metal Assault delivered upon me? Lyrically, No Remorse says it all about the assholes in life that think they rule you. Intense isn’t the word for this song. Instead, F’n intense to the Thrash Metal melting point is how I sum up this song best.

#4

SINISTER REALM – The Crystal Eye

(Shadow Kingdom Records)

From the greatest Metal city in Pennsylvania known as Allentown, there is a Metal band that the world should brace themselves for. This Metal band is: SINISTER REALM. Traditional Metal, such as the title track from The Crystal Eye, has become a necessary Metal nutrient for my Metal hungry ears. A Metal song that takes me back to those days of long ago, days when I felt invincible. That is how a great Metal song can make me feel and I like that.

#3

ANTHRAX – Fight ‘Em ‘Till You Can’t

(MEGAFORCE RECORDS)

After 8 years of waiting for a new Anthrax album, Worship Music is released in 2011 with Joey Belladonna at the mic! Yes Virgina, there is a Thrashin’ Claus and it’s Anthrax! Fight ‘Em ‘Till You Can’t became my favorite song from Worship Music and it psyches-me-out beyond belief. This song defines what I always loved about vintage Anthrax: speed, more speed, guitar driven, Charlie Benante going Metal Thrashin’ Mad on drums, gang vocals and Joey Belladonna. What else can I say?

#2

HEMOPTYSIS – M.O.D.

(Rock It Up Records)

Any regular visitor to Metal Odyssey knows by now that Stone supports HEMOPTYSIS. Why do I have this band on a Metal pedestal? Due to the clear Metal fact that Masaki Murashita (guitarist/vocalist) has his band running on precise Metal cylinders.

It is 2011 and new chapters of Metal, Thrash Metal and Death-Thrash are at my doorstep. HEMOPTYSIS is leading the Metal charge and I’m on board for the F’n Metal ride. M.O.D. defines the speed and extreme sound of this band’s brand of Thrash Metal. If you haven’t picked up and listened to Misanthropic Slaughter from HEMOPTYSIS yet, you absolutely must.

#1

MORBID ANGEL – I Am Morbid

(Season of Mist)

When it comes to choosing my #1 Metal song of 2011, I take it very, very, seriously. The #1 Metal song has to be the crème de la crème of all the Metal songs I’ve listened to all year. This song MUST take me to Metal heights that I can’t explain away. I Am Morbid is that #1 Metal song for me. “We stand invincible not just a dream” and “Tear down the obstacles this is our day” are real Metal lyrics to me.

Triumphant and yet defiant, I Am Morbid speaks of stepping on the enemy. Defeat those who obstruct your path to success is what I hear in this song. I Am Morbid is leading… not following. A Metal anthem that picked me up and carried me off in 2011, while I raised Metal horns to the sky.

LONG LIVE METAL.

FAREWELL TO ARMS – Signs With Massacre Records

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on November 26, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Landsberg am Lech back in 2007 – FAREWELL TO ARMS were born. Melodic, uncompromising, technically ambitious, versatile and curious – that’s how you could characterize the band.

Their goal is to define themselves without following any trends: FAREWELL TO ARMS are not one of those typical Metal bands and they won’t play the music you’ve heard a thousand times before! They have a unique style, which combines a lot of Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive and Hardcore elements.

Their first 4-track EP “Exhalation”, which was produced by Corni Bartels (Hackneyed, End of Green), was released in late 2010.

After numerous live gigs, also at various festivals, FAREWELL TO ARMS were also finalists of this year’s New Blood Awards. So they also played at the Summer Breeze Open Air with Davidian, who are now their label mates.

In spring 2012 FAREWELL TO ARMS are going to enter the Weltraumstudios in Munich to record their debut album with Corni Bartels.

Welcome on board, guys!

RE-ARMED have been up since 2001, when five guys in Kerava, Finland decided to start playing music similar to so-called “Göteborg Metal”.

Their musical style has evolved along with many critically acclaimed demo tapes. Becoming a style that is a combination of technical, grooving Death Metal with Thrash and Grind influences, spiced up with melodic lines.

During the years some line-up changes have occurred within the band but they have still managed to grow musically, as well as individuals.

Be sure to get your hands on their debut album, “Worldwide Hypnotize”, which is scheduled to be released on Massacre Records, on January 27, 2012!

RE-ARMED Lineup:

Mart Mardisalu – Drums

Joonas Jaaranen – Bass

PREY FOR NOTHING – Signs With Massacre Records, Second Studio Album Drops On December 9th, 2011

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, melodic death metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on October 27, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

PREY FOR NOTHING was forged in the fiery cities of Northern Israel.

After playing with Iron Maiden’s original singer, Paul Di’Anno, Yaniv Aboudy (guitars), Amir Salomon (bass) and Iftah Levi (drums) decided to dissolve their Prog-Metal band Damnnation in order to form a band more extreme and write songs more suitable to their musical taste.

PREY FOR NOTHING was joined by Yotam ‘Defiler’ Avni (vocals) with his acid throat and iron lungs, and the band released their debut album “Violence Divine” in 2008.

Inspired by classic Metal acts like Death, At The Gates and Testament, the band was joined by second guitarist Tal Behar (Orphaned Land live guitar player) and toured Israel, growing a massive following in the local scene.

Combining Progressive Metal elements to sheer Death Metal brutality, PREY FOR NOTHING can attract the fans of Opeth, Behemoth and all in between!

PREY FOR NOTHING’s second album “Against All Good & Evil” will be released on Massacre Records, on December 9, 2011!

PREY FOR NOTHING Lineup:

Yotam ‘Defiler’ Avni – Vocals

Yaniv Aboudy – Guitars

Tal Behar – Guitars

Legendary Florida Death Metal behemoths OBITUARY will embark on a short East Coast run of dates this November alongside Denial Fiend! The trek will commence on November 12 in Tampa, Florida and runs through to November 20 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The band will be joined by bassist Terry Butler (Death, Six Feet Under, Massacre),

Commented guitarist Trevor Peres: “We are gonna rip out some old songs that we haven’t played in ages during these shows!”

The band is currently writing the follow up to their Darkest Day full-length, released in 2009 via Candlelight Records. “Our goal is to be in the studio by January or February and to release the album in May or June of 2012,” says Peres. “Of course, the album will be followed up by a ton of tour dates. We will start out in Europe with the Summer festival circuit, followed by a proper European tour package and then do a full North American tour in the Fall of 2012.”

In addition, the band is also working on a new website that will allow fans a more interactive OBITUARY experience. “We’ll be able to have more direct, real-time communications with our fans through our website utilizing audio, video, chat rooms etc. We’re working on making these features function on our website, but as soon as we are ready to go live we will make an announcement.”
