The Neologist – Releases New Songs and Launches Official Website

THE NEOLOGIST – Coming off the release of their debut album, The 26 Letters of Your Universe, Gothenburg styled melodic metal two piece THE NEOLOGIST have been hard at work on new material.

The band is currently working on their next album tentatively titled The Promise of Eternal Separation which is set to be released in the fall of 2011.

THE NEOLOGIST is simultaneously recording the first of several IN FLAMES cover albums which they will be titling In Flames We Trust: Volume 1.  Thus far they have recorded and released “Jotun”, “Jester Script Transfigured”, and “Ordinary Story”.  The band is taking requests from fans via their Facebook, YouTube, and Homepage on which IN FLAMES songs should be covered on the album.  They also released 2 comical music videos for “Jotun” and “Jester Script Transfigured” which can be viewed on their YouTube account.

An official website has been launched for THE NEOLOGIST where fans can get up to date information and free music.  The new website is www.theneologist.net .  Fans can also leave the band messages via their website for which IN FLAMES songs should be covered next.

Most importantly, the band is giving away their music for FREE and encourage people to download their entire album and share the music.  The entire The 26 Letters of Your Universe album along with the 3 released IN FLAMES covers can all be downloaded for free via the bands BandCamp profile.

THORNAFIRE – To Open For SLAYER In Santiago, June 2nd, 2011

On June 2nd, 2011, Chilean Death Metallers THORNAFIRE have the distinct honor of warming up the stage for the almighty SLAYER when the Thrash titans bring their World Painted Blood Tour to South America. Understandably, the band is marking this occasion as a huge moment in their career as guitarist Victor Mac-Namara reflects in the following statement:

“We are very happy as musicians and fans to be part in the scenario of a Slayer concert, and opening for them in our city.The truth is that I don´t have many words to talk about it, I can only say that we will unleash our fury and vibe on stage with our sharp axes and drums to evoke the somber cry of death. In short, we hope to leave the stage like shit, but leave at least the electrical system working for Slayer to finally crush this masochistic audience with their classic tyranny.”

The announcement of this high-profile gig comes as the band is currently working hard on the anticipated follow up to 2009’s Vorex Deconstrucción. In a previously released statement regarding the forthcoming album, Mac-Namara commented, “Currently we are writing music a little different than what we have done in the past. It’s a variation, but still true to our underground Death Metal underground roots. I’m drawing concepts for the album artwork. We hope to have this released  by 2012.”

THORNAFIRE – Deconstrucción:

Deconstrucción was previously described by THORNAFIRE bassist/vocalist Alexis Munoz as a “futuristic song inspired by the religious and social decline experienced in the current era Eon oh Hourus.”

Deconstruccion comes off THORNAFIRE’s second album, Vorex Deconstrucción, which came out in July 2009 via Ibex Moon Records and is currently available at: Ibex Moon Records and  ABYSS RECORDS.

The band’s previous release, Exacerbated Gnostic Manifestation, is also available through Ibex Moon Records.

The video for Deconstrucción (see & hear below) was filmed, produced and edited by Daniel Duarte (a member of the fellow Chilean Death Metal act EXECRATOR) in a professional TV studio in Santiago.

HEMOPTYSIS – Interview Streaming Online!

Hemoptysis guitarist Masaki Murashita has posted a video demonstration of ENGL’s Fireball 100. The Video features Murashita playing through the Fireball 100 with different music styles, demonstrating the Fireballs ability to work under various conditions, and settings. AMON AMARTH – To Return To North America This August 2011!

AMON AMARTH – Following up a hugely successful U.S. headlining tour that found the band touring without support and instead performing two separate sets each night, Melodic Death Metal legends AMON AMARTH will return to North America for the second leg of the “An Evening With AMON AMARTH” tour.

Scheduled to kick off in Vancouver on August 4, the trek will ravage its way through 22 cities, including several Canadian venues, and come to a close in Boise on September 3. The first set will again feature the band performing the recently-released, critically-acclaimed Surtur Rising album in its entirety while the second will offer up mixed bag of tunes from their extensive catalog of Norse-inspired awesomeness.

Commented the band in a collective statement: “Yes, it is true! We are coming back to tour North America. The Spring tour turned out to be so successful, and we had such a great time playing the double sets each night, that we decided to bring ‘An evening With AMON AMARTH’ to the rest of the continent, including Canada! We will perform the new album in its entirety, and after that we’re doing a revised second set with all the classics as well as some ‘wild-cards.’”

SKINLESS – To Play Final Show At 2011 Maryland Deathfest

SKINLESS – Following a special, ritualistically brutal, one-off performance last June that brought the classic SKINLESS lineup to the stage once again, the legendary death metal battalion will play their last show at this year’s edition of the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore. Vocalist Sherwood Webber, drummer Bob Beaulac, guitarist Noah Carpenter and bassist Joe Keyser are prepared to scathe listeners with tunes off Progression Towards Evil and Foreshadowing Our Demise for one last time.

Commented Webber of the final performance: “This is Death Metal, so things can’t live forever, and here… we have an end! I’m stoked the guys at the Deathfest thought of us to do the show. It makes sense and we’re all down to do it. I know Noah announced the band’s demise a couple weeks ago, so it will be like seeing a ghost, then going to see Ghost ha!

“You can expect to see the sickest SKINLESS show ever,” he promises. “Last year’s reunion show was killer. It was everything a SKINLESS show should be about the finality of the MDF performance will definitely make it…….FINAL! THE FINAL NAIL!  Everyone in the band are still great friends. I live in Denver and we all have a lot going on in our lives now. We did way more than I ever expected. It was a lot of drive that made it happen; hard fucking work! “Warschau 2: Headhunter Halfmoon,” a brand new song from Swedish Black Metallers MARDUK, is currently available for your listening pleasure HERE. The track comes off the band’s upcoming new EP, Iron Dawn, set for release in North America on May 27, the day the band will make their long-anticipated appearance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest.

Before you read on any further, please understand that this album review is about an East Coast Thrash band that plays REAL Thrash Metal… bludgeoning bass and deathly fast on all points with pissed off vocals… just like Thrash was meant to sound like. Death Thrash. Hardcore Thrash. Thrash. Thrash up your ass. Whatever you want to call it… this is the stuff your momma cursed about and warned you not to go near.

Alas, your safe here at Metal Odyssey… so sit back, put on your Metal seat belts and read on about one of this years most amazing, brutalizing and spine snapping Thrash Metal albums: Out for Blood created by SPEED\KILL/HATE. This band is a force, founded by guitarist Dave Linsk of Thrash Metal Legends: OVERKILL. Not to be confused as a “side project”, Dave Linsk and his band of Thrash brothers are playing for keeps… and Out for Blood is audio proof. This new album is the follow up to their 2006 debut: Acts of Insanity.

Metal be thy name does this Thrash band devastate with their crushingly heavy and mind blasting speed. I put this CD of SPEED\KILL/HATE atop a stack of other CD’s and the entire stack below Out for Blood disintegrated into dust. Seriously, Out for Blood is a Thrash Metal album that you MUST BUY, whether your a casual fan or the most Hardcore follower of Thrash and Extreme Metal. The Thrash hurtin’ is for F’n certain throughout this entire album of 10 songs. After my very first listen, I was wishing this band was around for the last 25+ years with a vast catalog of albums.

Dave Linsk’s violent guitar riffs, leads and solos are unmistakably dominant, his Overkill signature and tone inevitably will follow him wherever he goes… and that’s something he should be proud of. With that said, SPEED\KILL/HATE is no carbon copy of the iconic Overkill machine. This is a Thrash Metal band that carries their uniqueness to the highest of Thrash Extreme.

Bob Barnak is an Extreme Thrash force to reckon with. Bob’s vocals are a lethal weapon and can easily tear your Metal soul apart. Evil Thrash. Darkened Thrash. Metal be thy name, I’m using every Thrash Metal adjective that can possibly exist about SPEED\KILL/HATE. This band kick’s undisputed Thrash Metal ass.

Album opener No Remorse is the knockout Thrashing punch… and if you think this song is heavy and fast, Written in Blood and Behind the Mask are superiorly intense, superiorly Hardcore Thrash, overloaded with maniacally fast double bass and searing guitar. Mark of Judas is the face melter on this album, undeniably a Thrash Metal song that thrives on it’s all encompassing Extreme force and total domination of all that exists around it. Brotherhood of Arms is yet another blistering Thrash attack of profound strength, a strength in this band’s jaw dropping Extreme musicianship.

The consistence of Thrash brutality that SPEED\KILL/HATE dish out on Out for Blood is incredibly impressive and bizarrely astounding to my ears. Once the album closer of The Cleansing finishes, I’m realizing I’ve been Metal schooled again. Bob Barnak has ripped apart my eardrums with his unearthly vocals and I’ve fallen down to one knee… with my hands raised in the air begging for Metal mercy… I cry out to you all: SPEED\KILL/HATE has kicked my Metal ass into oblivion! Please, pl, pl, please… can I have more sirs?

* I recently corresponded with Necrophagia’s guitarist Boris Randall, in regards to Deathtrip 69. Here is how Boris broke it down, in what to expect from this new Necrophagia album:

“Deathtrip 69 is Necrophagia getting back to it’s roots. Back to what put us on the map for horror and gore mixed with Extreme Metal. Hemoptysis guitarist (and vocalist) Masaki Murashita has announced an endorsement deal with ENGL Amps, joining notable musicians such as Gary Holt (Exodus), Jeff Loomis (Nevermore), Mille Petrozza (Kreator), Marty Friedman, and many others in his endorsement of ENGL Amps.

AMON AMARTH – U.S. Tour To Commence Today! April 14th, 2011

Melodic Death Metal titans, AMON AMARTH, today kick off their long-anticipated near two-week run of live dates in support of their latest studio offering: Surtur Rising. Dubbed “An Evening With AMON AMARTH,” this special tour will find the band performing two sets each night with no openers. The first set will feature the band performing Surtur Rising in its entirety while the second will boast a collection of songs from previous releases.  The Viking-inspired mayhem will begin tonight in Chicago at The Bottom Lounge.

Released on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, Surtur Rising has topped the charts both domestically and abroad and continues to reap praise from critics and fans around the globe for its sheer debilitating heaviness. Said Decibel of the offering: “…it’s a pleasure to learn one of metal’s most consistent bands remains as indefatigable as ever.” L.A. Music Blog called Surtur Rising, “the epitome of what death metal should be: ferocious and crushing. AMON AMARTH: “Surtur Rising” First-Week Album Sales Revealed

Surtur Rising, the latest studio album from Swedish Death Metal tyrants, AMON AMARTH sold approximately 15,000 copies in the United States landing the band the #34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums, #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums and #10 on the Indy/Small Chain Core Store Chart.  The record entered Austria’s Top 40 Chart at #12 and Switzerland’s Top 100 at #20. In Germany, Surtur Rising sold over 14,000 units, entered the Top 100 Chart at #8 and is in the official Media Mark Charts at #14 in its second week.

In addition, Surtur Rising came in at #19 on Canada’s Top 200 Chart, #5 on the Independent Charts and #2 on Hard Charts. The record is #1 in Canada on iTunes’ Top Metal albums, and also charted on the following: #16 Top 200, #3 Top Rock and #1 Top Metal. In the U.S., the record ranked in at #2 on iTunes’ Rock Album chart and #20 in the Top 200 (overall album chart).

Released on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, Surtur Rising is AMON AMARTH’s eighth studio offering in a winding discography that’s helped shape the very face of epic, Viking-inspired death metal. Named in tribute to Surtur, leader of the fire giants of Muspelheim (“flame land”) and the oldest being in the nine worlds of Norse mythology, the record was recorded, mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren and bears the striking cover art by Tom Thiel.

The mammoth long-player has been reaping incredible praise from critics nationwide. In a 9/10 review, Blabbermouth compared Surtur Rising to being,  “…bludgeoned by your favorite warhammer.
