English Extreme Metal legends CARCASS will return to headline the ninth DamnationFestival for their only UK appearance following the release of their first album in 17 years.
The Death and Grind standard bearers have promised another historic set which will feature cult classics alongside unexpected old gems and brand new material when they take the stage at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 2, 2013.
And after helping to sell out Damnation Festival in advance back in 2008, guitarist BillSteer is looking forward to performing to a packed house on their return to the event.
He said: “We’re very excited about the prospect of returning to Damnation Festival this year.
“Our appearance there in 2008 was a major highlight for us and this time around, people can expect to hear a fairly different Carcass set.
“The old favourites will be in there, of course, but we’re also planning to play a couple of the less obvious tracks from our past, as well as songs from the album we’ve just completed. Join us!”

With 22 more bands to be announced across three stages, festival director Gavin McInally, said fans can look forward to the melting pot of diverse styles of music Damnation Festival is known for from Black Metal to Post-Rock.
He added: “It was a coup to land the first UK Carcass show in 13 years in 2008 when fans snapped up every ticket going before we made it to the day itself and it’s another coup having the band return following the release of their first new album in 17 years.
“But even with the mighty Carcass topping the bill, we won’t be satisfied until we’ve pieced together a more challenging and brilliant day of music than the eight successful years we’ve already had the pleasure of hosting, so expect a lot more to come from 2013.”

SATAN are a heavy metal band originating from Newcastle, England in 1980, known as part of the NWOBHM movement. Though generally obscure throughout their career, the band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-thrash metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s. SATAN remained inactive until re-assembling for a one-off gig at Germany’s Wacken Open Air in 2004, and finally reunited in their original Court In The Act line-up for 2011’s Keep It True festival. The band performed at several European festivals in 2011 and 2012 and have announced more festival shows and new album for 2013, to mark the 30th anniversary of their debut release.

Danish Death Metal mercenaries PANZERCHRIST are releasing their seventh album, aptly entitled The 7th Offensive on July 15th on Listenable following their previous and highly – acclaimed 2011 release, Regiment Ragnarok.
PANZERCHRIST used three different studio to complete their new assault. Guitars and bass were recorded in the Igloo by HR Swan, drums were recorded at AMP studio by JensFörster and Markus Ziemer and vocals and the final mix were done in Death Island Studio with engineer Marco Angioni.
Although very extreme musically on a constant basis, PANZERCHRIST have never quite done the same album twice. The 7th Offensive shows a slightly more melodic and evil approach to the guitars; enhancing the grey, sinister feel of a battlefield. The band’s intended bleak sound was without a doubt achieved. The album also sees PANZERCHRIST return to the ultra-guttural and pure death metal styled vocals.
Make no mistake, PANZERCHRIST ‘s new album retain the violence and über-brutality the band has been known for. As the band says, “THE WAR IS OVER, LETS START A NEW ONE , DEATH FOREVER PANZER!”

May 21, 2013, Philadelphia – ASG, the North Carolina quartet who will release BloodDrive, their first new album in nearly six years on May 28, are streaming the 12-song release via Pitchfork Advance (http://pitchfork.com/advance/117-blood-drive/).
Alternative Press has awarded the album a four-star review, adding “mentioning these ASG cats in the same breath as riff-rockers Torche or Queens Of The Stone Age is not only misleading, it might even be an understatement.” Decibel gave Blood Drive an 8/10 review and said “it’s refreshing to hear a metal band that doesn’t have to compromise heaviness on its way to pop nirvana.”
The band was just added to Scion’s Rock Fest on June 1 in Memphis and will also play the Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh in early September. ASG play a hometown, record release show on Friday at The Soapbox in Wilmington, N.C.

Okay, now that’s out-of-the-way. Motörhead has released (at least) 20 (official) studio albums over the course of 5 decades; with countless live and compilation albums to their unparalleled credit. Whoa. This legendary band can’t be stopped nor contained and I’m very grateful for their existence.
With lineup changes comes the different eras of Motörhead; only each era is essentially still… Motörhead. At its core with founding member, bassist, vocalist and the forever iconic Lemmy Kilmister is the epitome of dirty, rotten, who-gives-a-shit Rock N’ Roll. That’s what Motörhead was, is and forever will be all about, my fellow Metal brethren.
We Are Motörhead (released back in 2000) may not be better than their classics released during the ’70’s; only WeAre Motörhead is better than their last 2 studio albums. Yup, that’s my Metal opinion again. Take my Metal word for it and cash it in, We AreMotörhead is an endless experience of getting your brains ROCKED OUT and it has served me right; time and again it has.
With the title track, Stay Out Of Jail, Out To Lunch, One More Fucking Time and Stagefright /Crash & Burn, the song titles are 500% Motörheadwith the fired-up Rock N’ Roll to back ’em all up! Yes, you read that correctly, I stated: 500%. There’s an old school appeal to this Motörhead album and it’s as delectable to me as 1983’s Another Perfect Day. It doesn’t even matter if Lemmy croons like no tomorrow on One More Fucking Time; the song still kick’s ass despite the tempo.
The Punk flavoring that Motörhead’scatalog of albums can be (many times) noted for is quite present on WeAreMotörhead; with the Sex Pistols 1977 iconic song God Save The Queen being covered by Lemmy and his rabid crew. A grand cover it is! Just listening to Lemmy sing this song is Rockin’ righteous and ring that Punk will never die bell.
So there y’all have it. We AreMotörhead is a worthy addition to any Metalhead’s or Rockaholic’s album collection. Motörhead Forever. Metal be thy name.

ROB ZOMBIE – Oh those cover songs. Sometimes there are so many bands doing cover songs these days I realistically lose track of many of them. Some cover songs are super fabulous, some are good and some are plain forgettable. Rob Zombie’s cover song of We’re An American Band falls into the category: Super Fabulous. Who could possibly argue that Classic Rock wasn’t the meat and potatoes for the evolution of Heavy Metal? I sure can’t. Rob Zombie took this Grand Funk Railroad Rock classic and Zombiefied it to a level of unthinkable Metal bliss and I’m flying high again! I guess when you get Rob Zombie and John 5 together with Piggy D and Ginger Fish, grand Metal miracles happen on an almost too common basis. In other words: Rob Zombie RULES.
I could have easily targeted Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor as Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day; only that’s for… another METAL day. Now, if only the corporate lame-O’s over at The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame would induct Grand Funk Railroad into their prestigious society. What am I thinking? AmericanMidwest Rock N’ Rollisn’t supposed to exist in that building in Cleveland. Shame on me for even dreaming like that. Metal be thy name.

Pitchfork.com has premiered “Heathen Child,” from DEMON LUNG’s forthcoming full-length debut. It’s the second song released from The Hundredth Nameset for release via CandlelightRecords on June 4. The conceptual album was produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).
Discussing the song, drummer Jeremy Brenton reveals, “‘Heathen Child’ is the fifth track on the record and is definitely one of our favorites to play live. We got the gnarliest guitar tone at the end of that song. It’s the part of the story where our hero, the warlock, kills an unbaptized male child in order to make a flying potion from his fat. Don’t try this at home, especially without a sharp knife.”
Early reviews of The Hundredth Name are encouraging. Sludgelord.com writes, “The Hundredth Name is a masterpiece from top to toe… this IS doom.” Metal Review says, “This is a band that knows how to make Doom Metal dramatic,” while Vegas Seven adds, “DEMON LUNG’s debut record destroys. Literate and lacerating, the ‘LUNG breathes real fire.” With the album’s full impact at Metal radio nationwide set for this coming Monday, it is an album that will find a rightful place in the collections of doom and metal fans round the globe.
Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG self-released Pareidolia in early 2012. The band was dubbed “Earthy-yet-horror-themed Doom Metal,” by Metal Hammer and, “One of the best new bands out there,” by PureGrainAudio. Signing with Candlelight Records last Autumn, the band featuring vocalist Shanda Fredrick, guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, with drummer Brenton, entered Oakland-based Sharkbite Studios in mid-December. Emerging a few weeks later, the album was turned over to Billy Anderson to work his mixing magic. Fredrick notes, “Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He helped us craft something we are very proud of.”

Ronnie James Dio – As incredible as it sounds, it’s been three years since the iconic Ronnie James Dio passed away. May 16th, 2010 was one of the saddest days in the history of Metal and Rock N’ Roll. At age 67, Ronnie James Dio’s battle with cancer came to a tearful end. No matter how evil cancer is, the one thing it cannot destroy is the memories and spirit of its courageous victims.
The spirit of Ronnie James Dio shall forever live on and my memories of seeing him in concert, listening to his albums and letting his lyrics and music move me will never fade away. Never. I am very pleased to see the constant and never-ending outpouring of love that the fans, bands, musicians and record labels give toward Ronnie James Dio each day on social network sites like twitter and facebook.
It’s truly amazing to read about how many lives that this one incredibly talented man had touched over the decades; and Ronnie James Dio is still touching us all with his never quit strength he had exhibited and priceless Metal spirit that lives on (in all of his fans). There will never be another Ronnie James Dio.

Demon In The Mirror exhibits elevated Metal vibes of profound substantial levels, is Old School and has a quasi-energetic outro (courtesy of guitarist Mike Kock) that (to me) rivals what the incredible Jake E. Lee had accomplished so brilliantly with the song classic Bark At The Moon. Kev Moore was born to sing Metal. This band was born to play Metal. For me, Witch Cross has created a thunder strike of Metal bliss with Demon In The Mirror.

Philadelphia – Baroness have added an additional leg to their previously announced Yellow& Green North American Tour, with a number of Midwest and West Coast dates including a stop at Bumbershoot.
The band has also released a candid interview clip where they share their thoughts on the Summer 2012 tour bus accident and reveal the first rehearsal footage with Nick Jost (bass) and Sebastian Thomson (drums). Watch below:

Baroness was sidelined when their tour bus plunged off a viaduct in the Bath area of England on Aug. 15, leaving the band and crew members with a variety of serious injuries. Yellow & Green had been released less than a month when the accident happened, and with just four shows remaining in the six-week trek before the band could return home to enjoy the praise that was being heaped upon the double-album. Singer/guitar player Baizley suffered extensive injuries, which, at one point, clouded the future of both the band and his return to music.
In October, after an unprecedented outpouring from fans, peers and friends, Baizley posted an open letter in which he painfully recounted the horrific crash (http://baronessmusic.com/update-from-baroness/), ending the ten-paragraph note with a fierce determination to return to music and touring. By December, a clip of Baizley and Adams performing an acoustic rendition of “Stretchmarker” was posted on the Baroness website (http://baronessmusic.com/a-message-from-john-stretchmark-video/) with a brief note that started with “Simply put: it’s time to get back to it.” With that, Baroness’s return to touring was not a matter of if but when. Adams and Baizley made their first public appearance with a performance in late January at Decibel Magazine’s 100th issue celebration in Philadelphia. SOULFLY are pleased to announce that they have inked a deal with Nuclear BlastEntertainment, a new division of Nuclear Blast formed by Nuclear Blast owner MarkusStaiger and former Roadrunner A&R chief Monte Conner. SOULFLY will enter the studio this month to begin recording their as-of-yet-untitled ninth studio album. The record will be produced by the world-renowned Terry Date, who is known for his work with such bands PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN among many others.
“I’m really excited to be signing SOULFLY to Nuclear Blast Records,” commented legendary frontman Max Cavalera (SEPULTURA, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY). “On top of it, we’re going to be reunited with Monte Conner who I’ve worked with for over 20 years at Roadrunner. SOULFLY ‘s new album is going to be recorded in Seattle with the great producer Terry Date, and it’s going to come out later in the year through Nuclear Blast worldwide. Keep it metal!”
“It feels so right to be reunited with Max Cavalera,” added Monte Conner. “He is the second artist I signed and we’ve made 17 albums together over the years, including several metal classics. Max’s voice remains just as unique and powerful as the day I met him and I felt the last SOULFLY album Enslaved was his strongest work since the band’s Gold-selling debut. I am honored to call him a friend and to continue to be a part of his mission.”
Ever since the band’s gold-certified debut in 1998, SOULFLY have become deadlier and more dangerous with each critically acclaimed successive release, and their upcoming album will be no exception. Expect a release tentatively in the Fall of this year.
