LAVATORY – Joins The Pulverised Records Roster

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 31, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Pulverised Records are pleased to announce the latest addition to their roster of brutality: Malaysian Death Metal deviants, LAVATORY. Spawned in 2012,  a five-song EP entitled Transgression was issued earlier this Summer and showcases their unwavering penchant for raw, Swede-ian Death Metal as originally conjured by the likes of Entombed, Carcass and Dismember. LAVATORY is currently working on their full-length debut. In the meantime, sample their delicious sonic decay below!

Notes LAVATORY throat-slasher Muntah Ke Darah of the union with Pulverised: “It’s a dream come true for LAVATORY to sign with Pulverised as we are the first Malaysian band offered with this opportunity.”

Adds Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo: “LAVATORY caught us by complete surprise when we first heard them, and truth be told, there really aren’t many bands in the Southeast Asia region paying tribute to the elder statesmen of Swedish Death Metal! This sinister alliance between LAVATORY and Pulverised Records will prove to be an interesting yet lethal one indeed. We cannot wait to hear how they will pick up from where they left off with the Transgression EP. Something tells me that a mixture of sick, crushing and rotten Death Metal is coming our way!”

Further info on LAVATORY to be announced in the coming weeks.

LAVATORY:

Muntah Darah – Vocals

Djinn – Guitars

Jahanam – Guitars

Musibath – Bass

Pelesit – Drums

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, Power Metal, power metal bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 31, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Progressive Power Metal troupe, VISION DIVINE, recently posted a new track, Mermaids From Their Moons, from their forthcoming new full-length. Titled Destination Set To Nowhere, the 11-track concept album is scheduled to drop in North America on September 18, 2012 via Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records. Featuring founding guitarist/songwriter Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth) and singer Fabio Lione (Rhapsody, Rhapsody Of Fire, Kamelot live), the band’s seventh studio offering delivers a melting pot of epic Metal anthems with a futuristic concept that follows a man’s journey through outer space in a quest to escape the social and political injustices of planet Earth.

In a 4.5/5 rating Metal Underground commended the band for their “beautiful classic progressive elements blended with driving riffs,” Metal Temple applauded VISION DIVINE  for offering “an accessible showcase of musical prowess and utter creativity to step into what could be in the not so far future,” and crowned the release a candidate for album of the year, while Axis Of Metal notes: “VISION DIVINE really perfect that floating, futuristic atmosphere that bands like Pagan’s Mind, Manticora and Alchemist also feature heavily in their Power Metal.”

Fabio Lione – Vocals

Olaf Thorsen – Guitars

Federico Puleri – Guitars

Alessio Lucatti – Keyboards, Piano

Andrea “Tower” Torricini – Bass

SAMOTHRACE – Forced To Withdraw From East Coast Tour

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 31, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Seattle Doom quartet SAMOTHRACE have just issued a statement on their unfortunate but necessary withdrawal from the pending East Coast tour with Pallbearer and Royal Thunder, set to embark in just one week:

“Samothrace is very sorry to announce that we will have to cancel our part on the upcoming tour with Pallbearer and Royal Thunder due to an immediate illness in the family of a band member. The most important thing right now is family. We are stoked to have had the opportunity to do the tour and will be planning to make our way out east in the near future. We appreciate the understanding.”

SAMOTHRACE just wrapped up a five-city West Coast tour last week in support of their acclaimed sophomore LP Reverence To Stone, released via 20 Buck Spin at the end of July. The album was recorded at Soundhouse Studios in Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) and mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea).

Reverence To Stone is still streaming in its entirety via PITCHFORK:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/13910-samothrace-reverence-to-stone/

“…Samothrace position themselves on a weird axis between Sabbathian doom worship and psychedelic freak out sludge (á la Cough or Rwake), along with an Isis-esque rhythmic complexity and molten tempo. 8/10” – Decibel

“…the  second full-length from Seattle quartet Samothrace for 20 Buck Spin comprises only two tracks, but they’re diverse and dynamic enough to prove that the breadth of doom is wider than a stylistic rut.” – Pitchfork

DEEPSEND RECORDS – Signs Death Metal Squads: HUMILIATION and ETERNAL REST

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on August 30, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

DEEPSEND RECORDS SIGNS HUMILIATION

Malaysian war-themed Death Metal soldiers, Humiliation, have signed a multi-album deal with Deepsend Records. Their as-of-yet untitled fourth album will be released in early 2013.

Musically, Humiliation focus on mid-tempo headbangers with heavy anthems of war, lack of humanity and minimal guitar solos. Humiliation’s war has been waged and will continue on until all in their path have been destroyed or join their hellbrigade.

Even at the “Dawn of Warfare,” the band will “Seek to Survive” marching “From Strength to Strength” to raise the Malaysian Death Metal Flag!!

HUMILIATION

________________________________________________

DEEPSEND RECORDS SIGNS ETERNAL REST

Deepsend Records is proud to announce the signing of Australia’s ETERNAL REST. The label will release the band’s debut album, Prophetic, in early 2013. The album was recorded and mixed by Joe Haley (Psycroptic).

Eternal Rest hail from Brisbane, Australia. The band’s powerful energy can be heard on Prophetic, but must be experienced in a live setting to be truly appreciated. This young band is surging forward with their excellently crafted heaviness from Down Under. Their brand of Death Metal is a mix of Immolation, Psycroptic and Martyr, with a heavy dose of ass-kickery.

A pre-production recording of the track “Preaching the Decimation of Spheres” can be heard below!

Eternal Rest have played with many national and international artists such as: The Black Dahlia Murder, Ulcerate, Sybreed and Alchemist, to name a few. The future looks bright for these Aussies. Hellbent on making a mark alongside countrymen Psycroptic and Beyond Terror Beyond Grace, Eternal Rest’s execution is unmatched.

Equal parts crushing and ferocious, maintaining a level of musicianship that should be applauded in a scene that’s been saturated with technical nightmares and slow-plodding meh.

KISS RULES! Wanna See My KISS ARMY Patch I Bought? It’s Really Cool…

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock and roll, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on August 30, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Last Sunday I went out shopping for back-to-school stuff with the girls. Shopping for school supplies can get very boring for a middle-aged Metalhead; unless you stumble upon cool KISS stuff, like the KISS Army patch you see above! Whoa!

One of the stores we went to is called Michaels. This store sells arts and crafts galore. It’s a very clean and organized store too. Michaels is North America’s largest arts and crafts retailer, with 1,079 namesake stores.

As I walked around Michaels I saw this KISS Army patch for sale on an endcap display. Since my first KISS Army patch (on my first denim jacket) has been long gone for decades, I decided it was time to renew! What’s the price for this KISS Army patch you ask? $5 in U.S. funds. Whoa.

Here is what a Michaels store looks like:

In case you wanted to know, here is what the cardboard backing (the patch is on) looks like:

As you can see in the above photo, C&D Visionary Inc. distributes this cool KISS Army patch. C&D Visionary Inc. is a leader in selling to merchants tons of pop-culture and Rock ‘N Roll related items. They have a website, only it’s a wholesale site for retailers with valid sellers permits only. Still, it’s a fantastic site to check out if you’re  not a retailer: http://www.cdmerch.com

LET’S GET ROKKEN WITH DOKKEN – “BROKEN BONES” OUT IN SEPTEMBER VIA FRONTIERS RECORDS

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Frontiers Records is proud to announce the return of melodic hard rockers, Dokken; the band’s 11th studio album, BROKEN BONES, has been confirmed for release on September 21st in Europe and September 25th in North America.

The album will be released in two configurations: standard CD and limited edition CD in digipak with a bonus DVD, which features a comprehensive “Making Of The Album” documentary.

BROKEN BONES is produced by Dokken frontman and namesake, Don Dokken, and is mixed by Bob St. John (Extreme, Duran Duran, Collective Soul) and Wyn Davis (Black Sabbath, Dio, Whitesnake) and mastered by famed engineer Maor Appelbaum (Halford, Yngwie Malmsteen, Sepultura). The new set features a return to the band’s signature sound of catchy melodies, hot riffs and monster production.

Don Dokken commented, “We’ve never had a #1 hit; we’ve just kept touring winning fans over one by one.”  The first single from the album will be “Empire”; click here to check out a sample of the song.  Please see below for the track listing for BROKEN BONES.

Dokken exploded out of the hotbed that was the hard rock and Heavy Metal scene in Los Angeles in the early ‘80s. Such classic albums as TOOTH AND NAIL, UNDER LOCK AND KEY and BACK FOR THE ATTACK were all certified multi-platinum, with songs like “Alone Again,” “Just Got Lucky,” “Into the Fire,” “It’s Not Love” and “Dream Warriors” still being regarded as amongst the genre’s finest. Dokken was one of the first groups to sell a million copies of their DVD “Unchain The Night.”

The group continues to tour the world extensively and has shared the stage with AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Kiss, Scorpions, Bon Jovi and many more. To date, the band has sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide.  The group has been nominated for a Grammy as well as an American Music Award. In 1988, Don was awarded the keys to the city of Los Angeles by Mayor Tom Bradley declaring January 27th as “Dokken Day” for his charity contributions to the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

Dokken is: Don Dokken (vocals), Mick Brown (drums), Jon Levin (guitar) and Sean McNabb (bass).

BROKEN BONES Track Listing:

  1. Empire
  2. Broken Bones
  3. Best Of Me
  4. Blind
  5. Waterfall
  6. Victim Of The Crime
  7. Burning Tears
  8. Today

NIDINGR – Unite With Indie Recordings

Posted in Black Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Indie Recordings are pleased to announce the signing of Norwegian Black Metal deviants NIDINGR! Starring present and past members of bands such as Mayhem, Gorgoroth, DHG (Dødheimsgard), 1349 and God Seed, among others, NIDINGR are known for their efficiently complex songwriting, ravagingly dissonant, yet infinitely catchy riffs and breakneck tempos.

Their two previous offerings — 2005’s Sorrow Infinite and Darkness, which the Metal Crypt crowned “one of the most interesting albums that has crawled out of the blackened depths of Norway in many a years” and 2010’s Wolf Father, featuring Mayhem’s Hellhammer on drums — proves what this maniacal assault is capable of.

Said the band in a collective statement: “NIDINGR is looking forward to working with a great label on Norwegian soil. We are sure Indie Recordings is the label we need to get us out to the masses and up to the next level.”

Further info to be released this Fall.

“NIDINGR has created an extremely dense and concentrated lesson in black metal’s most interesting elements…” – Lords Of Metal

“Wolf Father is a lean, mean disc that hits with the quickness of a raiding party and the heft of broadswords. Its six songs always go for the jugular, leaving a solid clubbing any time they fall short. It’s a beast worth hunting down as Wolf Father has potential as the head of the blackened death metal pack.” – Washington Times

QUIET RIOT 1996 ‘Greatest Hits’ – Yes, I Bought This CD Today! QUIET RIOT EPK You Must Check Out! WHOA!

Posted in classic rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on August 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

QUIET RIOT – This morning I stumbled upon this Quiet Riot Greatest Hits CD at my local Super Walmart. It was released back in 1996 via Epic / Pasha. This CD cost me $5 (U.S.) and that’s not too shabby. What inspired me most (besides being a QR fan) to buy this CD are the two previously unreleased (live) tracks: Bang Your Head (Metal Health) and Let’s Go Crazy. Within the liner notes, there’s no mention as to where these two live tracks were recorded. That’s a shame.

I already own the Super Hits CD of Quiet Riot. The Super Hits was originally released back in 1999 via Sony Music. (See photos of alternate CD covers below). The only songs that are common between these two CD’s I’m discussing here are: Cum On Feel The Noize, Bang Your Head (Metal Health), Slick Black Cadillac and Mama Weer All Crazee Now.

You know how it is. Being loyal to a (huge) group of bands you grew up with can make you want to own every one of their CD titles that’s out there. The way I operate, I grab the greatest hits titles too; especially if the CD covers are different. I’m probably considered a Heavy Metal CD hoarder. I think I’ve mentioned this once or twice in the past about myself. Life goes on regardless…

I’m quite psyched that I finally bought this Quiet Riot Greatest Hits CD. All these years I’ve never realized two previously unreleased (live) tracks were on it. Yes, both live tracks sound very, very cool. I’ll add that both live tracks don’t sound like the (also very cool) 1983 US Festival tracks.

The Heavy Metal of Quiet Riot has lifted my spirits for decades now… and that is something I can never put a price on. Metal be thy name.

QUIET RIOT Greatest Hits – Track Listing:

Cum On Feel The Noize

Bang Your Head (Metal Health)

Slick Black Cadillac

The Wild & The Young

Mama We’re All Crazy Now – (as it’s spelled on the liner notes)

Party All Night

Bang Your Head (Metal Health) (Live)

Let’s Go Crazy (Live)

JEFF LYNNE – Rock Music Legend Returns In October With Two Albums; Releasing On Frontiers Records

Posted in classic rock, classic rock albums, Music, rock albums, rock and roll, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on August 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

“It all comes down to what you truly love doing, and what I love doing is overdubbing and making new sounds out of things that are sometimes quite ordinary on their own, but when you put them together, they make something new–or something that sounds new. Just discovering things like that musically is a pleasure.”  – JEFF LYNNE, 2012

JEFF LYNNE, one of rock’s most iconic figures, is returning to make some new waves and shed a little electric light.

The creative force of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and the singularly accomplished singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer will release two albums on October 5th in G.A.S, October 8th in the UK and Rest of Europe, October 9th in North America via Frontiers Records: the solo disc LONG WAVE, a heartfelt and vivid tribute to some of the very songs that originally inspired him, and MR. BLUE SKY – THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA. For the latter album, the British artist has artfully revisited and re-recorded–at his home studio in Los Angeles– the greatest hits of Electric Light Orchestra, actually improving on some of the most classic and beloved recordings ever.

The release of LONG WAVE and MR. BLUE SKY – THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA mark the 40th anniversary of ELO. LYNNE’s legacy will further be celebrated with releases in 2013 including ELO Live! plus expanded reissues of the ELO’s 2001 album Zoom and LYNNE’s first solo album in 1990, Armchair Theater. For up to date info on all things JEFF LYNNE and ELO, go here: www.elo.biz

LONG WAVE powerfully celebrates the music of a time when LYNNE’s lifelong passion for music began, evoking an era back when old standards were just giving way to rock & roll. He somehow makes pre-rock standards like “Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered,” “Smile” and “Love Is A Many Splendored Many Thing” — along with a few of his favorite gems from the Sixties such as the first single “Mercy, Mercy,” “Let It Rock” and “So Sad” — his own with these loving versions. LYNNE’s deeply felt and musically brilliant one-man-band takes add up to an inspired love letter to music itself — and an exquisite reflection of the way songs grace and change our lives.

“I call this new album Long Wave because all of the songs I sing on it are the ones heard on long wave radio when I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, England,” LYNNE explains. “These songs take me back to that feeling of freedom in those days and summon up the feeling of first hearing those powerful waves of music coming in on my old crystal set. My dad also had the radio on all the time, so some of these songs have been stuck in my head for 50 years. You can only imagine how great it felt to finally get them out of my head after all these years.”

MR. BLUE SKY – THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is a powerful testament to LYNNE’s enduring artistry and his singular desire to get things right once and for all. Featuring such classics as “Evil Woman, “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Livin’ Thing” and “Mr, Blue Sky,” the result is, in effect, a kind of showdown between JEFF LYNNE today and his extremely illustrious past, and thanks to improved technology and recording artistry, LYNNE somehow comes out on top again. It’s a fresh chance to hear these extraordinary songs sounding sharper and clearer than the old versions.

“There was a big reason I wanted to re-record these ELO songs,” says LYNNE. “When I listen to the old versions they don’t sound the way I thought they did when I first wrote and recorded them. I wanted to use the experience I’ve gained producing records ever since and have a completely new try at them. I’m not saying the old versions aren’t good; I like them very much. We were doing our best, but experience and technology also play a big a big part, and these new ones sound much more solid and tight.”

The album includes a never-before-heard bonus track The Point Of No Return and a very special version of “10538 Overture” that’s a nod to ELO’s 40th anniversary.

The songs that JEFF LYNNE wrote and sang–and the recordings that he so expertly arranged and produced for ELO — have endured beautifully and are perhaps even more beloved today than they were back in the Seventies and Eighties. By any standard whatsoever, ELO is one of the most remarkable success stories in rock history. Consider just the facts: ELO has sold over 50 million records worldwide, and continues to be a remarkably popular catalog.

Between 1972 and 1986, LYNNE wrote and produced 26 Top Forty hits in the United Kingdom, and 20 Top Forty hits in the United States, including 20 Top Twenty smashes in the UK and 15 Top Twenty smashes in the U.S. Even more remarkably, the ELO catalog continues to have tremendous impact, as demonstrated powerfully when the compilation All Over The World: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra was released in 2005 and became a Top Ten album in a number of international markets including England.

Outside of the success of ELO, LYNNE has led a remarkable career that has found him taking the lessons learned leading ELO and using them to help produce and collaborate with many of the greatest musical artists of all time, including a number of LYNNE’s all-time heroes including Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and remarkably, even the Beatles themselves, as well as contemporaries like Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose new album Analog Man LYNNE recently helped produce. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, LYNNE was, of course, a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys – a super group like no other.

FOREVERS EDGE – Announce New Singer And Bassist, Reveal New Album Artwork

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, Power Metal, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

After several years of hard work trapped in the dungeons of creating a Heavy Metal masterpiece, NJ/NY Progressive Metal band FOREVERS EDGE have announced the return of singer CLAY BARTON (SUSPYRE) for their sophomore album, Hereafter, as well as bassist NOAH MARTIN (ARSIS).

CLAY BARTON comments:

“When I was first approached about being a part of the second album I wasn’t sure if I was going to have the time or energy to put forward what was needed from a vocalist, but when I started hearing the rough mixes I knew that it had a chance to be something very special. Sal has always been nice enough to give me the freedom to be creative and that makes recording his albums a much more enjoyable experience. If you aren’t having fun with a project, it comes across in the music for everyone to hear. My hope is that when everyone hears the album they experience not only the music, but also experience a little bit of the fun that went into recording it.”

NOAH MARTIN comments:

“I’m glad to have done this recording session with friends, the majority of whom I’ve known for nearly ten years. It’s definitely an effective gelling of musicians, Their music seems to capture the riffs of say, Iced Earth, the length and complexity of Blind Guardian’s arrangements, and the grandeur of Symphony X. It’s been hectic finishing both this and the Arsis album. Much thanks to the guys for asking me to play on their album, being patient, and even giving me a bass solo.”

CLAY BARTON – Vocals

NOAH MARTIN – Bass

Wanna See My JUDAS PRIEST ‘Painkiller / The Sharpest Cuts’ Cassette? It’s Really Cool…

Posted in classic rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on August 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

JUDAS PRIEST – That’s it at the top! That’s my Judas Priest Painkiller / The Sharpest Cuts cassette! It’s still sealed in its original plastic wrap too. This is a 9 song greatest hits. This title was released back in 1990, via Columbia.

I haven’t opened this cassette to play it for I already have all these songs on CD’s. This very cool Judas Priest cassette I discovered at a thrift store last Winter. I paid a whopping 50 cents (U.S.) for this cassette. 50 cents!

Here is what the back of this Judas Priest cassette looks like:

On the back cassette sleeve is the track listing. A bunch of type (so tiny I cannot read it) is on the right side. With that said, there is this red type in the center that reads: Demonstration Not For Sale. Whoa! I always love it when I stumble upon a vinyl album, CD or cassette that was distributed as a promotional copy only. Usually these “demonstration” copies are not that abundant in the open marketplace.

I’ve searched around the worldwide web, discovering that this particular Judas Priest promo cassette has been offered for sale. In other words, the few occurrences when I found this cassette, it was no longer available. Whoa! I’m leaning towards this promo cassette being kinda rare.

Here is what the spine of this cassette looks like:

JOB FOR A COWBOY – More Studio Footage Posted From ‘Demonocracy’ Studio Sessions

Posted in Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on August 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Drum Magazine Catches Up With Jon Rice; Band To Play Russia, Ukraine And Belarus

New footage from JOB FOR A COWBOY’s Demonocracy studio sessions is currently available at the band’s official landing page. Witness Jon Rice demolish his kit during “Fearmonger” at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, Drum Magazine recently caught up with Rice to talk about his natural sounding approach to the critically lauded record noting, “If you detect more of a feel-oriented style on JOB FOR A COWBOY’s Demonocracy, credit Jon ‘The Charn’ Rice for that extra bit of human touch. Eschewing sound replacement, scientific Pro Tools quantizing, and the usual by-the-numbers approach favored by most death metal bands (and their power-hungry producers), Charn and JFAC did it old school; well, almost. While the band certainly used computers to keep the perfect beast drummer in perfect time, they didn’t follow the typical click track route. Similarly, Charn opted for natural drum tones and sounds. All this anti-machine behavior gives Demonocracy a serious kick to the groin, and on songs like ‘Children Of Deceit,’ ‘Imperium Wolves,’ and ‘Fearmonger,’ 24-year-old Charn smacks down single strokes, bleeds double pedal profundity and generally rips the heads off your favorite Death Metal destroyers.” READ THE FULL STORY HERE.

Praise For Demonocracy:

“…an ass-kicking, skull-cracking record,” — Alternative Press

“…a very strong exercise in slickly-produced, technically sound death metal…” — Decibel,

“Demonocracy affords JOB FOR A COWBOY another album to legitimize their death metal sound, which was set forth starting with Ruination…Bringing in guitarist Tony Sannicandro and Cephalic Carnage bassist Nick Schendzielos translates to dynamics not heard on any JOB FOR A COWBOY album to date…” — About.com

“The album plays like a constant assault, and while never backing off it still manages to add enough structure for individual songs to become memorable… the soloing is surprisingly catchy and well-executed while still managing to sit well in the context of the songs.” — Ultimate-Guitar

RETALIATORY MEASURES from Finland was founded in early 2009 by Kalle Hahtamo (Guitar), Pessi Haltsonen (Vocals) and Janne Halima (Guitar). Soon Iiro Aittokoski (Drums) and Teemu Heurlin (Bass) joined the band. Teemu left the band about a year later and was repleaced by Marko Mäkipanula.

They released their first demo in late 2009, which gained good feedback from the music media in Finland. A second promo CD entitled “MMX” followed a year later.

RETALIATORY MEASURES have been hitting the stages since the beginning of the band and played with bands such as Omnium Gatherum, Insomniumm, Rotten Sound or Napoleon Skullfukk.

Being asked about the lyrical themes of their songs, Iiro said in an interview with The Core Of Brutality: “(Our songs deal with) death, accepting death, tattoo artists and Mel Gibson.”

MONSTERS RULE! Wanna See My 12 Creature Feature Trading Cards From 1973? They’re Really Cool…

Posted in Heavy Metal, horror movies, metal music, monster movies, monsters, movies, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , , on August 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

CREATURE FEATURE TRADING CARDS – Monsters rule. Monsters are Metal. Don’t believe me when I say Monsters are Metal? Just ask Rob Zombie, Glenn DanzigJerry Only, Wednesday 13, Skeletonwitch, Lizzy BordenOrange Goblin or the mega-legendary KISS, Iron Maiden, King Diamond and Alice Cooper if Monsters are Metal! Monsters are to Metal, what hops is to beer. They just go super swell together.

Back in 1973, Topps Chewing Gum released some very scary and very cool trading cards called Creature Feature. I remember vividly, watching Creature Feature on Saturday mornings with my sister. We both were psyched out of our minds to see the black and white film classics of: Frankenstein, The Bride Of Frankenstein, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Wolfman, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, The Invisible Man and ALL the King Kong and Godzilla flicks too! Whoa!

Okay, I’ll throw in the original War Of The Worlds film from 1953 and The Blob from 1958 as being childhood favorites of ours as well. In my opinion, the special effects seen in any of these old-time Horror films deserves an applause! Hell, there were no computers back then to assist in any SFX, like we all know exists today.

Night Of The Living Dead – Original Movie Poster (No, I don’t own this poster… wish I did though).

If I had to name my favorite Horror film stars from the golden years of Hollywood, they would be (in no particular order): Vincent Price, Lon Chaney Sr., Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi and of course Boris Karloff. Horror film icons all. My favorite Horror film of all time? Why, it’s a tie. Here they are: The Phantom Of The Opera (1925 silent film) and George A. Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead from 1968.

I would share these cards with my sister and we would laugh at the corny jokes that are printed on the backsides of them. The “sayings” on the card fronts are a hoot as well! Here are 9 of my Creature Feature trading cards:

The Frankenstein card in the center reads: “Would Somebody Tell Me A Scary Story?”

Grand memories these Creature Feature cards produce for me. I so often wish my sister was still alive; I miss talking about ghosts, monsters and the paranormal with her. My sister was never at a loss for words when it came to these scary topics! My sister also had a small quantity of Creature Feature cards too. While growing up, we weren’t surrounded with money, therefore, building a complete set of Creature Feature was not even a thought to us.

Here are 3 more of my Creature Feature trading cards:

Here are the backsides of my Creature Feature cards:

On the back of card #93 (shown above) reads the joke:

“Why are you so surprised that I shot a werewolf last night in my pajamas?”

“I didn’t think a werewolf could fit in your pajamas.”

I’d like to give a BIG thank you to my Metal Buddy over at ATOTHEWR.COM for prompting me to write about and show off my Creature Feature cards. Please check out his very, very cool site! From movie reviews, books and music to running, you’ll be in for a surprise by stopping by there! Plus, I believe he’s a KISS fan too! Tell ’em Stone sent you. Now, to end with a quote from ATOTHEWAR:
