On October 28th, 1983 – The Horror film POSSESSION (1981 film) opened at the Rivoli and other theaters in New York City. This B flick stars Isabelle Adjani, Sam Neil (of Jurassic Park fame) and Heinz Bennent. Possession was written and directed by Andrzej Zulawski.
On October 28th, 1994 – The Science-Fiction film STARGATE was released to wide-screen theaters in the USA. This film stars the legendary Kurt Russell and James Spader. I absolutely love this movie! I recommend STARGATE tremendously! This movie is not difficult to find; I am now in the mood to watch it again!
If you are addicted to the Ancient Aliens series that is currently airing on the History Channel, you’ll fall head over heals for STARGATE! By the way, I once met James Spader at a wedding I attended in Long Island, New York. This chance encounter took place back in the 90’s. Pretty cool, huh?

QUEENSRŸCHE – It’s been far too long since I’ve posted a Metal Pick Of The Day. What better way to kickstart it all once again, with the magnificent QUEENSRŸCHE! Guardian is a pumped-up and convincingly strong song from QUEENSRŸCHE ‘s recently released studio album: Condition Hüman (Century Media).
With Guardian, Todd LaTorre nails it on vocals and QUEENSRŸCHE are as powerful than they’ve ever been, in my Metal opinion! I love listening to Scott Rockenfield on drums and he is killer on this track. I can go on and on. Instead, crank the living hell out of Guardian below and Metal Be Thy Name!

I find enormous pleasure in hunting for older records and CDs. My expeditions take me to antique malls, flea markets and second-hand stores on a frequent schedule. I very often come home empty-handed or with spending only a colossal five dollars or so. These past several years, I’ve found and purchased many exciting vinyl, CD and miscellaneous treasures that I’ll be boasting about on Metal Odyssey, as part of a consistent series of posts. I promise. Yes, it’s been too long since I have shared such cool stories.
In the meantime, I want to share with you via this post all the Creepy Crap I Have To See, While On My CD And Records Hunting Trips. It really sucks to witness such macabre objects that are lurking around corners of the establishments I patronize; many times I stand in awe at the creepy crap that people are trying to sell. On one recent trip, I decided to document this creepy crap through the lens of my iPhone.

Power Metal, Prog, Melodic Metal, Hard Rock, – descriptions touching on multiple genres of heavy music today, none seem to do justice to the music that is Azrael’s Bane. Based in Houston, Texas, Azrael’s Bane was formed in the summer of 2002. Its members, all seasoned veterans of the heavy rock and metal scene sought to create music that was new, powerful, and different from the norm. The band has appeared in multiple US music festivals including Rocklahoma, ProgPower West in Los Angeles and Milwaukee Metal Fest. FROM ASHES TO NEW are a Rap/Alternative Metal band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Their new EP Downfall has grabbed my attention in a positive way, as you’ll read below. The band’s debut studio album, Day One, is slated for a February 2016 release.
Adding to the excitement that is stirring within the From Ashes To New camp is their forthcoming supporting role on the Christmas Vacation Tour; a tour which boasts Falling In Reverse, Atreyu and Assuming We Survive. From Ashes To New just concluded a supporting role on the Five Finger Death Punch Tour; a tour that also featured Papa Roach and In This Moment. ‘Nuff said and whoa.
I once lived in Pennsylvania for nearly seven years, right on the Allentown city line. During my time living there, I can easily state that Pennsylvania is a hot-bed for music. From the annual Berks Jazz Fest in Reading to Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with many bustling music clubs in-between, music is an essential part of social gathering in The Keystone State.
With the likes of Hall & Oates, Halestorm, Cinderella, Sinister Realm, Motionless In White, Candlelight Red and Poison originating from Pennsylvania, it doesn’t surprise me at all that such a talented band as From Ashes To New call this great state home as well.

From Ashes To New blend their styles of Rap and Alternative Metal together in a seamless fashion, with all four songs on their new EP: Downfall. These songs are filled with more hooks than a pro fisherman’s tackle box and flow with each other like a fresh mountain stream. Seriously, From Ashes To New have taken their own musical canvas and painted their own art upon it; there is very much originality here to be heard and embraced. Where some bands of this ilk can get downright annoying, From Ashes To New have sucked me into their melodious vacuum.
As the Rap Metal goes, I find it to be as cool of a listen as when Anthrax had done it many Metal moons ago. These are well written (both lyrically and musically) and thought-out songs on Downfall; while they’re also minus any lullaby moments too. The numerous spurts of heaviness throughout this EP makes it all the more enjoyable for me; plus I truly dig the vocals and chorus that From Ashes To New perform so very well. It appears that Lancaster, PA has exported a talent that I could not resist boasting about and I wish nothing short of the very best for From Ashes To New. Metal be thy name. – Stone.

Montreal’s Death Thrashcore rippers BORNBROKEN have added new vocalist Pepe Poliquin (ex-Endast) to their line up and have just unleashed a new whopper of a tune featuring Peloquin entitled ‘A Nation of Ignorance’ for metal heads gearing up to vote in Canada’s federal election this week.

“Doesn’t it seem that there are more lies exposed than truths being revealed and are we are letting it happen right before our eyes? Our latest single talks about a nation of ignorance we elected into power, that conceals everything behind a cloak of secrecy, conspiracy and silence. Well it’s time we expose the incompetence, stop the confusion before it all turns into chaos. The best way to protest and raise your voice is by voting. Make yourself heard and not be one of the forgotten.
We also like to add, we like to welcome into the band Pepe Poliquin (ex-Endast) on vocals. Pepe stepped down from playing guitar (for health reasons) and has given everything he’s got to be the voice for BornBroken. BornBroken are a Montreal-based Metal band uniting the world through their unique take on explosive Death/Thrashcore. The band is three parts vocals with Pepe Waitforit Poliquin as the lead singer and Mike Decker and Simon Savard performing double-duty on guitar and vocals, one part low-end bass crafted by Tommy Vaillancourt and one hundred percent integrity.
BornBroken is the sound of the beaten and the fallen overcoming their outlook of a blackened tomorrow through the medium of aggressive, galloping Metal. Lyrically, the focus remains on taking sorrow and anger and rising up from the ashes to rebuild and heal a new world from one that’s crumbling down around us now. Lyrics have had a very personal connection for the band since their beginnings in 2008. Much of the band cut their teeth playing in local groups like Endast, Burn Unit, Dilute the Poison and Mort au Combat.

AGAINST EVIL are from Visakhapatnam, India and have their new studio EP, Fatal Assault, out via Transcending Obscurity. AGAINST EVIL is another fine Metal example as to why the underground Metal world rules. This EP begins with Battle Call, a 49 second intro that boasts both electric and acoustic guitars, a segue for the ripping and tearing The Enemy Within. Melodic guitar playing with clean vocals, this song has memorable seeping from its every Metal crevice.
Speedbreaker sounds like its name; all speed my Metal brethren! Can I say, memorable song number 2? Bulletproof is yet another solid showing of how this band can crunch and pound away with their brand of Metal, while incorporating clean vocals in such a non-subtle fashion. War Hero is my favorite song on Fatal Assault, due to its Power Metal meets Metal anthem and thundering style. Throughout this entire EP, the production is top-grade with obvious Thrash and Speed Metal influence. AGAINST EVIL’s Metal craft has obviously catapulted them to such a fine level of Metal creativity, in my Metal opinion.
It’s very cool that I have been introduced to AGAINST EVIL via their Fatal Assault EP. Guitarists Sravan (vocals & rhythm) and Shasank (lead) are a thrill to listen to. Noble John on drums is a lit stick of dynamite! Siri on bass and vocals is a player too, making it fun for me to crank the bass knob on maximum! Get your Metal radar turned towards AGAINST EVIL and thank the Metal Gods that this band exists. Metal be thy name. – Stone

I have seen that some people are commenting with their disappointment that a few of the “so called” supergroups are not playing live and that this somehow diminishes the relevance or quality of these releases. A lot of negative vibes and preconceived notions are made before a note of music has even been released. This is not a new issue to us and we of course respect people’s opinions, but in these times of social media where direct communication to the fans is available, I thought I’d make a direct statement to explain how we, Frontiers see things.
Since the moment I put the label together, I saw this as one of the most exciting jobs that I could ever have imagined in my life. It was something that for years I was only able to dream of. The idea of working with the artists that for years and years I had been listening to on record was truly exciting. And after almost 20 years (yes, next year Frontiers will turn 20!), I think I have not lost one ounce of that initial enthusiasm! I was, and still am primarily a MUSIC fan and I have always interpreted my role as A&R director of Frontiers in a creative way. I have always been relentless in trying to find and expose GOOD MUSIC to the fans. And considering that when I started the label a lot of the classic bands that I grew up with were disbanded or not active, I think that I have really helped in creating some interesting pieces of music to fill the void left by those legends.
Since the days where – together with artists like Kevin Chalfant, Mark Mangold, Jim Peterik, Billy Greer or Tony Harnell to name a few – we created the concepts of Two Fires, The Sign, Seventh Key, Pride of Lions and Starbreaker, Frontiers has been the “brain” behind these new band projects which were greeted warmly by the public and the media. Now as to WHY those bands have never played live? Well to begin with it is not completely true that none of these projects have ever played live. In fact, The Sign, Two Fires, Seventh Key, The Magnificent, W.E.T, Angelica, ISSA, and I am certainly forgetting others, have all played live shows. And also, it needs to be said that there is nothing in principle that prevents these bands from playing live. In most cases, unfortunately this has to do with a lack of interest from tour promoters and/or with scheduling conflicts among the members or even certain contractual obligations that the artists might have to their main band. However, I am pleased to say that there will be more and more efforts from our side to bring these projects to life on the stage moving forward – and you will soon see what I mean.
So, yes, I think I am creative and again, what still preoccupies me the most, after all these years, is to keep releasing GREAT records that keep Classic Rock, Melodic Rock, and Hard Rock alive and well with a constant flow of quality releases. This – I think – allows everyone to keep ENJOYING new and exciting music while allowing me to keep building on my personal dreams thanks to the art, talent and skill of all these amazing musicians we are so fortunate to work with. Just think about all the amazing records from the likes of ALLEN LANDE, FROM THE INSIDE, ISSA, KHYMERA, KISKE SOMERVILLE, PLACE VENDOME, FIRST SIGNAL, SUNSTORM, VERTIGO and all the others…
I really hope that people can welcome with open arms the music we release and give it a fair chance, regardless of who is involved, if the artist is touring, etc. Moreover I wish to say one final thing: If it wasn’t for some of those projects, we would have had a lot more difficulties in launching new talents. The most shining example is probably W.E.T, whose success immensely helped the exposure for two of the most EXCITING new bands we have on the roster, Eclipse (Sweden) and Work of Art. But, I could obviously mention Revolution Saints for Alessandro Del Vecchio, Allen Lande for Magnus Karlsson, Starbreaker for Fabrizio Grossi, Find Me for Daniel Flores, and of course all the work we did during the years with Dennis Ward and so on. These groups are also a really important tool to expose new songwriters, producers and real musical talents to the world.
Talking about new bands, you may have noticed some “young blood” coming in. I am very proud of these new guys and I hope you will follow and give them a chance, exactly in the same way you would do with a new Whitesnake or Journey record.
