BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME’S THE PARALLAX II: FUTURE SEQUENCE AVAILABLE TODAY – BAND EXPERIENCES MINOR BUS FIRE IN ENGLAND

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, progressive metal, progressive metal albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Oct. 9, 2012, LOS ANGELES – Between The Buried And Me’s critically-lauded, 72-minute opus, The Parallax II: Future Sequence, is available today via Metal Blade Records.

Between The Buried And Me’s bus caught fire this morning in England.  There are no injuries and no equipment was damaged.  There is no effect on the band’s tour.  Tour manager Courtney Warner adds: “As of now, we are at a service area awaiting transportation to a hotel.  A new bus is on its way.  We shouldn’t miss any shows because of this.  All gear, luggage, personal items and most importantly, people, are all good.  We just stink like smoke.”

The 12-track album was described by Tommy Rogers (vocals, keyboards) as: “A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head.”   The band’s 2011 predecessor, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues EP, laid the groundwork for the story behind the Parallax releases, Prospect I and Prospect II.

Loudwire described The Parallax II as ” quintessentially brilliant,” while awarding the release a perfect score.  Alternative Press said the band “continue to dominate progressive metal” and are musically “expanding on every already-top-notch aspect.”  Outburn called the album “otherworldly,” while Decibel added that BTBAM are “one of progressive metal’s most singular, unique and genuinely progressive bands.”

A number of aural and visual clips have been released leading up to the release with the most recent addition audio clips from the entire release, which can be found here:  http://youtu.be/HFTbp3UFmyE.  The band has also released a stunning, effects laden video for “Astral Body“:  http://youtu.be/u8Q9DknFFuM and a series of instructional videos (guitar, bass and drums) for “Telos“: http://youtu.be/qQZmTXCSO00.

Metal, Heavy Rock Bands + Spiders = A List Of Creepy Crawling Cool Albums!

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Black and Yellow Argiope (Argiope aurantia)

Metal, Heavy Rock Bands + Spiders – Take a look at that spider above! Whoa! Apparently, this Black and Yellow Argiope is harmless to humans. Harmless! I’ve encountered this scary looking spider throughout my entire life; in my dad’s and uncle’s gardens and eventually my very own garden; this intimidating spider has appeared, time and again.

I remember catching this spider in mayonnaise and peanut butter jars when I was a young lad. I remember how I would chase my sister around the yard, while holding this spider captive in my jar. Metal be thy name, what was I thinking? Good times, nonetheless. (Maybe that wasn’t quite the case with my sister).

Okay, I’ve introduced you to this creepy crawler and now I shall introduce you to a list of Creepy Crawling Cool albums! The bonus is they are all Metal and Heavy Rock albums too! I own each album (and 1 CD single) you’ll see below, (with just 1 exception at the end of this list). I’ve slapped together examples from the legendary King Diamond, COLD and an appearance from… Ravage.

Just in time for Halloween, this list may be a first-time introduction and/or a reintroduction to what I consider to be excellent albums to own. If you know of other Metal or Heavy Rock album covers that features spider themed artwork, feel free to comment! Enjoy this list and… let the Halloween season spin its spooky vibes around you!

KING DIAMOND – The Spider’s Lullabye (reissue cover version)

Metal Blade Records (2009)

KING DIAMOND – The Spider’s Lullabye (original cover version)

Metal Blade Records – (1995)

RAVAGE – The End Of Tomorrow

Metal Blade Records – (2009)

COLD – Stupid Girl (CD Single)

Geffen – (2003)

COLD – Year Of The Spider

Geffen – (2003)

COLD – Superfiction

Eleven Seven Music – (2011)

Okay… cause you were so cool to stop by and stick around to the end, here is a…

BONUS ALBUM COVER:

This is an album from the UK’s BLACK SPIDERS. I’m gonna eventually buy volume and it will serve me right. These Stoner Rockers have the ultimate band name for this list I’ve compiled here too.

CORPUS MORTALE – Signs With Deepsend Records

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on October 8, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Danish Death Metallers CORPUS MORTALE have signed to Deepsend Records. Deepsend will release the Danes’ third album “FleshCraft” this fall, with a special web-only Pre-Order which will ship prior to the release date in stores.

“FleshCraft” is the follow-up to Corpus Mortale’s 2007 sophomore album, “A New Species of Deviant” and first for Deepsend Records.

Corpus Mortale joins Dawn of Demise, Spectral Mortuary, Deus Otiosus, and The Cleansing as Deepsend’s dominance with Danish Death Metal continues!!

“FleshCraft” will come to be known as a defining statement of Danish Death Metal. The year’s best Death Metal album is also amongst the best from Denmark ever. The perfect death metal recording, Martin Rosendahl’s trademark bellow (last heard on The Cleansing’s “Poisoned Legacy”) and their musicianship that’s second to none. Your expectations should be high and will be mightily fulfilled. “FleshCraft” is an excellently composed monster, exemplifying everything that Danish Death Metal has been known for and finally accomplished by Corpus Mortale.

A promo video for the track “Love Lies Bleeding” is below!

VENOM – To Headline Maryland Deathfest 2013

Posted in Black Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on October 7, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

As reported on the Official Venom Website:

Yes it’s official…. Venom have confirmed they will be headlining the Maryland Death Fest which takes place during the last weekend of May 2013.

The Black Metal Godz last played Live in America in 2006 on their ’10 Commandments Tour’, although other show commitments have prevented them from returning sooner. As yet no other US dates are being planned during this period, so this show at MDF XI could be a one-off spectacular.

INCANTATION – Records Exclusive Track For Decibel Magazine

Death Metal pioneers INCANTATION have recorded an exclusive track for Decibel Magazine’s Flexi Disc series, which is available only to subscribers.

INCANTATION gave the song a proper reworking and the deathed-up, newly-recorded version of the song will appear inside the December 2012 issue of Decibel.

Non-subscribers have until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10th to visit http://store.decibelmagazine.com/collections/subscriptions-renewals/products/subscribe to sign up in time to receive the disc.

KISS – On October 9th, the 20th studio album, MONSTER, from the iconic KISS shall be released upon the world! I cannot wait! I absolutely LOVE their lead single Hell Or Hallelujah and I’m not bashful to admit this song psyches-me-out. I bought this song on iTunes and it has served me Metal right.

Critically Acclaimed MAELSTROM EP “It Was Predestined” To Be Released On Itchy Metal Entertainment

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on October 3, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Few self-released albums or demos get the kind of international industry-wide praise that MAELSTROM’s It Was Predestined enjoyed when it was circulated throughout the underground in 2008-2009. That’s why the news of MAELSTROM’s signing to Los Angeles’ Itchy Metal Entertainment (IME) and the announcement of the official digital release of It Was Predestined on Halloween, October 31, 2012, is a truly celebratory event.

IME President Ed Fassio had this to say about MAELSTROM’s crosscutting appeal:

“To create anything that appeals across the ages is challenging. Commercially, new styles take time to be accepted and caution must be taken to avoid becoming too trendy. Yet history has proven, nobody can argue with the wide appeal of great music.”

In particular, Fassio credits the ability of heavy metal to attract new fans decade after decade. As this audience continues to grow, so does their affinity to the genre and that synergy seems to hinge on particular songs and styles that fuel the appeal. Such is the case of IME’s latest addition from Long Beach, New York: Genre bending band MAELSTROM, a hybrid fusing of Thrash, Death, Power, and Prog – creating a cinematic styling which nearly forges its own sub-genre.

Formed in the tumultuous fire storm known as the eighties, MAELSTROM took note of the European underground, blending classical melodies, heavy rhythms, and theatrical vocal progressions into a formation that would hail as the top drawing local act of their time. Honing their signature sound, MAELSTROM’s reach expanded well beyond domestic borders, gaining popularity and promise around the world until the thrash scene gave way to the Grunge-influenced decade of the nineties.

While the industry changed with the times, Maelstrom’s resolve became even stronger. Re-constructed by founding vocalist/lyricist Gary Peter Vosganian and Guitarist and chief songwriter, (Julliard guest lecturer, and Guitar Player Magazine and UltimateGuitar.com guest columnist), Joey Lodes along with percussionist Daniel Kleffmann – MAELSTROM was born again. This time, the band set out to rekindle their international audience and introduce their tried-and-true formula of metal to an interconnected, cross-cultural marketplace. This ambition and seasoned ability appealed to the team at IME.

“When first introduced to MAELSTROM, we put particular focus on production quality, use of original melody and specific evidence that their art could transcend beyond a particular highlight in history,” explains Fassio.

What Itchy Metal Entertainment found was an extremely well-networked band commanding over 30,000 Facebook “Likes” with phenomenal musical structure, business acumen and multidimensional demographic potential. Recently named to Terrorizer Magazine’s List of Top Two “Best unsigned Bands” worldwide, it seems that the industry is equally convinced that the world is once again, ready for MAELSTROM.

Through their new relationship with Itchy Metal Entertainment and dedication to success, MAELSTROM is a group fired up and headed to the next level.

“We firmly believe that awesome music is timeless, but that’s often demonstrated in mainstream capacities,” says Fassio. “We feel the same principle can apply in the underground scene and this band is hell-bent on proving it. MAELSTROM allows new direction for the label and revives fresh possibilities for the genre.”

International Critical Praise for It Was Predestined:

Named in the Top two Unsigned Bands Worldwide – Terrorizer

Demo of the Month, January 2009 – Rock Hard

“Fusing a dizzying array of styles – death, power, thrash and prog-metal – with cinematic elements, jaw-dropping musicality and Gary Vosganian’s eccentric, staccato vocals, cult New York band Maelstrom have ended a two-decade hiatus to present something thunderously unique.” – Metal Hammer

A symphony of progressiveness the likes of which has pretty much never been articulated, invented, or heard, before now.- Martin Popoff – Editor in Chief BWBK

“This band is on their way to becoming the next big thing.” – Metal Asylum

“Pagan/folk/viking/whatever metal has fallen out of favor since it momentarily exploded onto the scene in 2008-2009, but every so often a band in that micro-genre comes along that piques our interest. Long Island crew MaelstroM have some of the trademarks of that genre – vocals that occasionally soar, fantasy-themed artwork, keyboards – but theirs is a brand that’s distinctly thrashier and a whole lot less cheesy than most of what we hear. Great guitar work, too.” – Metal Sucks

“These tracks will leave you breathless…their power is undeniable” – The Gauntlet

“It Was Predestined is a flattering combination of old school and new school power, and it works surprisingly well.” – Metal Review

“Maelstrom is not your typical power metal act and It Was Predestined is going to strike a nerve with classic fans.” – Teeth of the Divine

“MaelstroM are not only back, they’re stronger than ever and dedicated to bringing their wildly inventive brand of metal to a new generation of listeners.” – Ultimate Guitar

“Maelstrom are a mean and snarly power metal band, and they aren’t afraid to keep things raw instead of sparkly.” – Unrestrained!

“If you love huge, massively melodic metal with an off the wall touch, ‘It Was Predestined’ is worth a listen.” – Chronicles of Chaos

KILLING JOKE – To Release MMXII Via Spinefarm Later This Month

Posted in alternative metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on October 3, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

October 30, 2012 sees the release of KILLING JOKE’s new album, MMXII, on Spinefarm Records.

2012 is the perfect year for KILLING JOKE to be releasing an album that is as dense and dark as the surrounding swirls of madness in the world. At a time when the news is on fast-forward and the planet seems to be descending into lunacy, who better than KILLING JOKE to reflect such a sentiment?

When their original lineup of Jaz Coleman, Geordie, Youth and Big Paul reconvened in 2008 after working together intermittently, that strange voodoo once again filled the room. Individually, they have a power, but together they have something sulphurous and strong that few bands can match. KILLING JOKE are not an average band with an average agenda; they lock the door and let the ritual commence, and MMXII is the result.

MMXII’s 11 tracks are an avalanche of sound — empowering whilst jolting you awake. They are as fascinating as chatting with Coleman, as he talks of future humans living forever but with no emotions, and of the Age Of Aquarius and the cycles of time, the shift in the earth’s electro-magnetic field, the end of extreme capitalism, the Arab Spring and how his trips to Cairo to record music have added to his belief that when Cairo falls everywhere else follows… MMXII is possibly KILLING JOKE’s best album ever; a dense and multi-layered work. The songs are great washes of sound – a death disco with huge slabs of guitar that soundtracks these dangerous times. It’s an end-of-time album that somehow finds moments of optimism in the downward swirl of the planet. Finding hope in the apocalypse, this album just could be their masterpiece.

The album’s key is the end of times, an age of flux, a shift in consciousness. Coleman comments: “I can’t see the point contemplating extreme life extinction — it’s good for nothing. It’s nihilism in the absolute even considering it.”

This kind of thinking sets the tone for this powerful record, with 2012 and the state of flux the key issue.“It’s in many different calendars – the great unveiling, the sky and the earth coming together. It’s a significant date. Everything is speeding up. It’s not just our minds shrinking. We are heading towards the Eschaton and no-one really knows what’s going to happen.”

The album reflects this dark vision, but Coleman sees the great change in a more positive light — the dawning of the Age Of Aquarius. “All the remote viewers I know, myself included, cannot penetrate beyond. This year is about getting our collective dreams in order, restoring the biosphere, the idea of well-being as opposed to economic growth, the idea of partnership and co-creation with fellow human beings, moving away from national boundaries and more towards what Schiller and Beethoven were saying in some of their work.”

The album’s themes are political, anti-capitalist and forward-looking. “If we can concentrate on what it can be, the dream of clean streams, of re-forestation, of permaculture, of disengaging all the banks — identifying all the majority shareholders of the top 100 corporations and dismantling them. If we start dreaming of a fairer system and defining what an elite should be — an intellectual powerhouse and not international bankers.”
