The unrelenting force of diabolical Black Death Metal, BELPHEGOR, returns with a blazing new single: “Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus.” Forged in chaos and crowned in blasphemy, the track marks a savage invocation of what is yet to come.

This release marks BELPHEGOR’s first under their freshly inked deal with Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM), setting the stage for a powerful alliance between one of extreme metal’s most revered entities and one of the scene’s most ambitious new labels.

Helmuth, the band’s co-founder and guiding force, shares“It’s great to be working with Gerardo Martinez once again. He believed in Belphegor early on and was the one who brought us to North America in 2006. I look forward to a powerful new chapter with RPM.”

Gerardo Martinez, co-founder of RPM, echoes the sentiment“Helmuth, Belphegor and I go back to 2006 and I’m extremely thrilled to be able to continue working with one of the best proponents of Black Death Metal art. Welcome to RPM! Here’s to many more years of great music!”

Listen to “Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus” here: https://youtu.be/yCORFvKY6J0

On “Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus,” Helmuth describes: “A symbiosis of diabolical Black Death Metal. A glorification of the Devil. A hypnotic anthem of passion, fire and iron discipline. It stands for the absolute freedom to walk your own path, to reign within your own realm.”

More ominous creations are on the horizon, with this single serving as a harbinger of the full-length devastation yet to be revealed.

Posted in Black Metal, black metal music, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on May 21, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

AMIENSUS surprisingly drop digital single for new song “Fields of Emerald Fire.” It was just last year that the epic, melodic, progressive black metal group released not one but two records worth of engaging material that was critically lauded and had fans embracing the impact of the group’s adventurous sound. Not resting on laurels AMIENSUS give fans the first of several new tracks in the works, so sit back and enjoy “Fields of Emerald Fire” now HERE:

Digital Single links – https://lnk.to/emeraldfire or watch the streaming visualizer – https://youtu.be/oqUrWyUHmOc?si=JXNxrkXo2eaJ_JTI

“Fields of Emerald Fire was written concerning The Great Hunger,” explains singer/guitarist James Benson. “As a band that has often written about historical events, as well as current events, we used this opportunity to draw parallels between the past and present actions of governments and their oppression of minorities.

“Fields of Emerald Fire is the first of multiple singles to be released in 2025. Some of these tracks were written with the objective of creating within a limited time span, and therefore pushing ourselves to maintain our standards on creativity without the pesky overanalyzing that often can delay completion of songs/albums,” continues James. “We have a lot of material for the future and a lot to speak on. We hope you enjoy Fields… and look forward to sharing more music with you this year!

James Benson, who also fronts Midwest post-black metal operatives CHROME WAVES, is joined in AMIENSUS by GHOST BATH drummer Chris Piette plus guitarists Alec RozsaKelsey Roe and bassist Todd Farnham. Chilling, harsh yet melodic and progressive are just some ideas of AMIENSUS’ sound heard on “Fields of Emerald Fire” which will sate fans of their two-part ‘Reclamation’ opus while the collective continues work on additional new music this year.

From the Greek black metal bastion of Athens emerges ELEVENTH RAY, with lamentations that have lain in wait for the best part of a decade. The occult offerings within the unhallowed sleeve of Reviving Tehom invoke the spirit of Celtic Frost, Sodom, the ‘90s exploits of the great Magus Wampyr Daoloth (Necromantia, Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord), and of course, Therion’s 1993 Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas album.

The seeds for ELEVENTH RAY were sown by materials once artificed for the black metal force of Serpent Noir, whose changing tonality saw guitarist Y.K. bury said materials for a later purpose. A decision that first bore rotten fruit via a devastating rehearsal demo in 2022, which piqued the interest of Dark Descent Records.

ELEVENTH RAY is a totally new autonomous entity for which we plan to work with full force and NOT a one-off project of Serpent Noir leftovers,” exclaims Y.K. “As it happens with all my projects, ELEVENTH RAY is deeply rooted in Dark Magic and the Typhonian Alchemy.”

The practices of Magic and Alchemy are of critical importance to Y.K., and these elements at even keel with the music itself.

“Writing music for the sake of music is not enough. It is the expression of what lies hidden beyond the frames of what we call reality. The great Unknown emanated from the foremost symbol of power, the Red Dragon,” explains Y.K.

“What we were aiming to achieve was the creation of a purely black Magical death/thrash/black metal album without the lyrical satanic naivety of the past. Listening carefully to the album, you will realise that into this blend there is a striking ritualistic element with an ominous vibe and a heavy occult twist. Basically, Reviving Tehom is an album I would personally love to listen to, but I could not find anywhere.”

The common thread extends to the stunning artwork by L.G.N Nekropropaganda, depicting the aforesaid Great Red Dragon “as the orgasm of existence, the utmost symbol of hidden wisdom and forbidden knowledge which is also a tangible form of ecstatic energy. Lyrics deal with personal experiences related to the awakening/channelling of this tremendous force.”

ELEVENTH RAY:
D. Gharrassielh: Rhythm and lead guitars, chants
D. AanoNin: Vocals, chants
Peyote: Bass, additional lead guitars
Nuctemeron: Drums, percussion

Recorded by Haris V. at the Eleventh Tower Studio, a familiar collaborator of Y.K., the production perfectly complements this first wave hell-noise with a crushing old school sound. With full force!

FURIA – To Take Their Unique Black Metal To The Cinema This April

A unique music and film project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Silesian Film Archive in Katowice

Images of Silesian cities recorded on film tape, history, tradition, everyday life, industrial heritage. Cinematic alchemy of image, music and Silesian spirit.

Only a few tickets left for the second concert on 6th April. Tickets for the 5th April concert sold out in 2 (!) days

Polish black metal titans Furia will take part in a unique project on 5th and 6th April at Kinoteatr Rialto for the 25th anniversary of the Silesian Film Archive in Katowice, Poland. Furia will play its songs accompanied by unique materials from the only regional film archive in the country.

The band has chosen archival films, which show, among other things, how the Silesian region was created and developed, how the legendary Spodek in Katowice was built, how life changed in Silesian cities and towns. We will also see artistic impressions inspired by the industrial landscape of the region or local crafts; recorded on film tapes, full of nostalgia, images of ordinary life: everyday activities that our grandparents, parents or ourselves engaged in years ago.

During this anniversary concert, we will see materials from the Silesian Film Archive, which Furia will illustrate with compositions from its albums, transferring the images of old Silesia to a completely different, surprising and hypnotising dimension.

Furia is one of the most original Polish black metal bands. The band was formed in 2003 in Katowice by vocalist and guitarist Michał “Nihil” Kuźniak. The band also includes Kamil “Sars” Staszałek (bass), Grzegorz “Namtar” Kantor (drums) and Artur Rumiński (guitar, since 2013). Furia has several album releases under its belt, performances in Japan, Romania, UK, at OFF Festival and at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, among others; a nomination for the “Polityka” Passport and cooperation with Jan Klata and the Krakow Stary Theatre on the adaptation of Stanisław Wyspiański’s “Wesele”. An important source of inspiration for the Katowice band is the tradition, culture and art of Upper Silesia: its mythological universe, to which they willingly and often refer in their work (e.g. “Guido”, “W Śnialni”).

The Silesian Film Archive was established 25 years ago in Katowice and is run by the Silesia Film Institute. It is the first and only regional film archive on the cultural map of Poland. Located in the basement of the Kosmos Cinema in Katowice, the Film Archive is mysterious because the relatively little-known space is filled with traces of film history. There you will find stills, posters, scripts, press clippings and over 10,000 film copies. Above all, thousands of old film material (including 8 mm, 16 mm and 35 mm tapes), especially those related to the subject of Upper Silesia. The Film Archive carries out its mission by collecting, storing, restoring, digitising and making available old film materials. www.filmotekaslaska.com

GLORIOR BELLI: French Black Metal Collective Premiere New Track From “The Great Southern Darkness”

Posted in Black Metal, black metal music, Extreme Metal, extreme music, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , on August 2, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

French Black Metal collective, GLORIOR BELLI, are pleased to unveil the first single, “Secret Ride To Rebellion,” off their upcoming new full-length, The Great Southern Darkness. Scheduled for a North America release on September 27, 2011 via Metal Blade Records, the record finds the band at their most ravaging.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Julien of the tune: “‘Secret Ride To Rebellion’ begins furiously with the right mix of blackened tremolos, catchy melodies and wicked words. Then slowly, the track reaches a frenzy point over the last minutes of dark incantations. Sorry pal, you’ve just been exposed to the black light and there’s no return from there!”

Check out “Secret Ride To Rebellion,” at the band’s official landing page, where you will also find pre-order details, HERE.

The Great Southern Darkness features 11 tracks that magnify all the best elements of GLORIOR BELLI in a twisted, gritty, wholly unique way; dangerously violent and fast, yet simultaneously dark and swampy with all the Americana/Stoner/Blues elements the band has come to embrace. Formed in the suburbs of Paris during the close of 2002, what began as a noxious duo soon became an untamable beast, acting as a beacon for everyone looking to free themselves of the influence of the Demiurge.

Lyrics and themes explored throughout the years reveal a sincere inclination for rebel-ism and a developed sense of poetry. Today, GLORIOR BELLI has garnered a stellar reputation in the Extreme Music community for mixing desert rock textures with the brutal, ominous, Doom-laden vibe typical of Black Metal. But don’t bother trying to restrain that which cannot be confined, for this is merely the greatest curse of the cosmic scheme.

CRADLE OF FILTH – “Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa” Releases November 9, 2010 In North America!

CRADLE OF FILTH – As 2010 is drawing towards a close, the new Metal releases just keep on coming! On Novermber 9, 2010, Cradle Of Filth’s ninth studio album – Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa will be released, on Nuclear Blast USA for North America. Dani Filth and his band have returned… and from what I’m hearing, this Cradle Of Filth album is the fastest and heaviest yet! November shall be quite the “filthy” month for Metal once this Cradle Of Filth album hits the street. Did you get it? “Filthy”… Cradle Of “Filth”? Man, my corn-dog side is coming out again.

You can bet your last Metal dollar I’ll be buying this new Cradle Of Filth album… especially after I’ve had to endure looking at thousands of political campaign commercials while I’m trying to watch my nightly ghost hunting and paranormal reality shows on television. It feels like my Metal world has been invaded by all of these lying, slimy and backdoor dealing politicians, each time their overpriced commercial hits the t.v. screen.

I’m voting… you better believe it, it’s an American privilege that I shall never take for granted. It’s just that these phony politicians aren’t gonna “sway” my vote just because they are name calling and throwing stones at each other every night on television… like a bunch of preschoolers in a playground. I’m into facts and the pursuit of happiness… not mud slinging.

I don’t mean to get off track here… my Metal point is: I’m thankful that Metal exists, that bands like Cradle Of Filth exists, to keep my attention away from the political garbage that network news and politicians try to feed society on a daily basis. Long live Metal and Cradle Of Filth. Metal be thy name.

I’ve listened to Lilith Immaculate several times already… this is a strong epic song to savor on Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa. Atmospheric and layered in all of it’s eerily dark richness, with speed and heaviness not taking a back seat. Dani Filth is as vocally Extreme as ever, with Black Metal fire resonating from his every syllable. Extreme, Gothic and Black Metal fans will find plenty to embrace from this fantastic song. If the rest of Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is like this… whoa.

Metal has never messed up a society… politicians have.

METALMEISTER – A 1996 METAL BLADE RECORDS, COMPILATION OF UNRULY & EXTREMELY HEAVY… METAL!

Posted in black metal music, death metal music, hard rock music, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal bands, heavy metal history, heavy metal music, heavy metal songs, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 6, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

METALMEISTER – Released back on July 23, 1996, on the legendary Metal Blade Records, this compilation of fifteen songs is a molten fireball of Metal Music! Fifteen bands, all signed to the Metal Blade Records label, (as of 1996), are featured on Metalmeister. From Cannibal Corpse and GWAR to Armored Saint, Metal Blade Records never put up any boundaries when it comes to Metal Music… and they still don’t. Metalmeister may be out of print, alas, I have seen numerous new copies for sale at Amazon.com for slightly over $1 U.S.!! That’s one meager buck for a heavy swath of Metal, Metalheads!

The one track on Metalmeister that isn’t heavy at all is Fall-Dark Waters by Decoryah. It’s quite an atmospheric song, reminiscent of The Alan Parsons Project. (!) Believe me, that is my most honest Metal opinion I have of this song. Plus, as a mellow bonus, this song clocks in at 7:16 too. I am not dismissing myself from ever listening to this song ever again, it’s just that it does not “fit in” with this Metalmeister compilation at all. In case you are wondering… Decoryah was a dark/ambient Doom Metal band from Finland, releasing two albums, two EP’s and two demos from 1992 to 1997. My Metal research has found this band broke up in 1997.

Wretched by The Crisis is just that, plus it sounds like the Pop Rock Band… Hanson going all Death Metal on my brain. I really don’t know of any other songs and or albums from The Crisis, this is just my Metal opinion on the one song from them, heard straight from Metalmeister.

Thankfully, the track immediately following this Wretched song is Here In After by Immolation. (Phew), Immolation does a Metal brain good, especially after listening to a Metal? song that leaves me bewildered. The song Here In After is Immolation NOT fooling around… this Death Metal Band always delivers the heaviest of goods to my ears. Metal be thy name.

Meat Sandwich by GWAR is… vintage… GWAR. There is something about these unearthly beings that makes me listen to them, with the upmost Metal curiosity. Meat Sandwich is as entertaining lyrically as it is Metal groovy.

Meat Sandwich can be found on the RAGNAROK album, released back on October 24, 1995, on of course, Metal Blade Records. Here is what the RAGNAROK album cover looks like:

Well, I covered my least liked songs first… then Immolation and GWAR saved the Metal day… now for the really cool Metal… step in Armored Saint. Creepy Feelings is listed on Metalmeister as previously unreleased material and from a 1989 demo tape. This was 1996 when this album was released, thus Creepy Feelings was very much a previously unreleased track of the time. Fast forward to March 7, 2000, when the Armored Saint album – Revelation was released… Creepy Feelings was included on it. This song is a killer… a melodic and hard driving force is Creepy Feelings with John Bush vocally at his finest.

This is what the Revelation album looks like:

I also posted a review for Armored Saint – Revelation back on July 24, 2009. You can read it if you like, by clicking the link below:

Armored Saint – “Revelation” brings forth Heavy Metal intensity

Psychotic Companion by Galactic Cowboys exhibits flashes of Thrash, Funk Metal and Heavy Metal commercial accessibility. One damn decent band was Galactic Cowboys, a cool song to have in this Metalmeister mix of Metal candy.

Blue Suit, Brown Shirt by one of Thrash Metal’s best non-limelight bands – Sacred Reich, is as hot as a blow torch firing straight up from hell. This song lasts 2:27 and it alone is worth the $1 and change you will pay for this Metalmeister CD. Mercyful Fate appears with Into The Unkown and is always worth a half dozen repeat listens… for me. King Diamond… ’nuff said. Into The Unknown is from the 1996 Mercyful Fate album… you guessed it… Into The Unknown.

Here is what the Into The Unknown album cover looks like:

DEATHSTARS – “NIGHT ELECTRIC NIGHT” ILLUMINATES THE DARK SIDE OF HEAVY GOTHIC METAL

Posted in black metal music, gothic metal, gothic metal albums, gothic metal bands, hard rock music, heavy metal albums, heavy metal bands, heavy metal music, metal music, Metal Reviews, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 14, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

DEATHSTARS – This Gothic/Industrial Metal band from Sweden has been stalking about the planet for several years now. Their first studio album Synthetic Generation had a 2003 European release. Termination Bliss followed in 2006 and now Night Electric Night has been available for your Metal listening enjoyment since January of 2009. Deathstars play and promote their Gothic and Industrial styles well, exhibiting their Black Metal influence and roots within their Metal.

Mark Of The Gun is my favorite track on Night Electric Night, it really grooves along with all of it’s ultra proficient Gothic and Industrial glory. Deathstars can deliver some heavy grooves within their Metal and that is one quality I like about this band. Lyrically, dark themes and topics are explored… of course. It’s very easy for me to embrace Deathstars affinity for melodic songs, as well as dynamic verses that keep their music interesting and far from boring.

Whiplasher Bernadotte on vocals makes the songs on Night Electric Night illuminate the dark qualities they encompass. It’s difficult for me to imagine any other vocal style attempting to sing these songs… this music was meant for Whiplasher to sing, undisputedly so. The Fuel Ignites is another standout song on Night Electric Night, seamlessly escalating a rhythmic flow, highlighted and enriched by very infectious keyboards.

The electronics/keyboards are incredibly necessary for Deathstars, adding a consistent, textured sound and feel that elevates each song to even darker majesty. Venus In Arms is standout song #3 for me, brandishing it’s stomping rhythm section, coinciding with the atmospherics, making for a semi-epic sound. Deathstars cohesiveness as a unit is their greatest strength. Your not going to hear riveting guitar solos, what you hear is guitar proficiency that melds within the layers of Deathstars Metal.

Gothic Metal, Industrial Metal and Extreme Metal fans surely know Deathstars by now… hopefully. If you are a fan of Metal Music and are looking for something new to order off the Metal menu, then Deathstars comes recommended by Metal Odyssey. Deathstars Night Electric Night is not an album you should listen to once and pass judgement on, there are just too many musical elements that need to be heard.

Mercyful Fate released their first full length studio album, Melissa, back in October of 1983. I remember back then, a high school buddy of mine named rich, he had this album in his clutches as soon as it was released. Rich eventually asked me if I wanted to borrow this album and give it a thorough listen. Listen I did. Metal truth be told, this album spooked the hell out of me back then. Heck, it was 1983, how many bands were out there that sounded like Mercyful Fate with Kind Diamond’s vocals? I remember staring at this album cover, wondering to myself… I’ve been introduced to a band that is heavier than Judas Priest. In 1983, getting my Metal taste buds wet with Judas Priest and Black Sabbath was a big deal… Mercyful Fate just shook my Metal senses loose.

Quite honestly, I cannot recall which album I listened to first back in the day… Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All or Melissa. It doesn’t really matter. The Metal fact is clear, these albums changed the way I and countless others listened to Heavy Metal Music back then… period.

I appreciated Rich lending me Melissa back in 1983, he was a real deal Metalhead and a good dude. Fast forward to today, I have Melissa on CD, it is a staple in my collection, a true Metal Classic. Each time I listen to this album, I am blown away realizing Melissa is from 1983 and it still reigns with all the Metal fury it bestowed from it’s initial release. This was just the beginning for King Diamond… so much Metal history and total quality surrounds Melissa. I never hesitate to consider Melissa as one of the greatest Metal albums ever. If you never heard Mercyful Fate – Melissa before, don’t despair… it’s never too late to appreciate this album and song. Give Melissa a listen below and crank it LOUD!

Hank Shermann – guitar

Michael Denner – guitar

Based on the type of funky day I’ve been having, coming across the song Under A Pitch Black Sky by SKYFIRE was all the Metal elixir I needed, to get that funk out of my day. This song is from Skyfire’s 2009 release – Esoteric. Skyfire is a Progressive Death Metal Band, originating from Sweden. I first heard Under A Pitch Black Sky from a compilation CD of Metal songs, courtesy from an issue of Metal Hammer that I picked up, sometime back in 2009. (Getting free Metal compilation CD’s from an issue of Metal Hammer… or from any source, is a very cool Metal deal). I really enjoy the Death Metal genre, throw in melodic and it suits me just the same. There is the atmospheric element of Symphonic Metal heard throughout this great song. Lead vocalist Joakim Karlsson sounds brilliant on Under A Pitch Black Sky, some may equate his vocals to having a touch of Black Metal fire as well. The blistering guitars are a focal point of this song… just one listen and you shall understand my Metal glee. At the end of the Metal day, SKYFIRE is an excellent Progressive Death Metal Band for me. I hope you enjoy Under A Pitch Black Sky as much as I do… crank this Metal up and it might get the funk out of your day too!

LONG LIVE SKYFIRE!

SATYRICON – “BLACK CROW ON A TOMBSTONE” VIDEO IS A BLACK METAL TRIUMPH

Satyricon The Age Of Nero was released back on November 3, 2008. This is an album that gets increasingly greater for me, after each listen. One song in particular, Black Crow On A Tombstone, just stays in my head for days… weeks on end. I am not going to fight it off, it’s a fantastic song that I immensely enjoy. I can remember distinctly, the first time I listened to The Age Of Nero in it’s entirety… it blew me away. The grooves are abundant throughout this album, Black Metal reigns supreme through these songs. Satyricon created an album with The Age Of Nero that I would easily consider to be… Metal Album of the Decade. I’m not kidding around… the Metal… Black Metal, on this album is representative of what incredible song writing is all about, both musically and lyrically. Satyr proved to me, that you do not need to get mathematical, intricate or go over the top, in order to create a sensational Black Metal album such as this. Here is the video for Black Crow On A Tombstone – the darkness of the video compliments this song. Satyr sings this song with unreal conviction, which is an attribute I find so admirable and remarkable. Being pre-warned by the sight of a black crow, that impending doom is upon you, is the theme of this song. Here’s hoping you enjoy this great song and video as much as I do…

Satyricon “The Age Of Nero” – this is serious Metal

LONG LIVE SATYRICON.

Well, sorry fellow Metalheads and Satyricon fans… apparently “WMG” (yeah, that record compnay) doesn’t want to “share” their music video’s with blogs like Metal Odyssey. It’s too bad, due to the fact that Metal Odyssey gives away FREE advertising for record companies like WMG day in and day out. Wherever you do go to finally see this amazing Satyricon music video, I hope you do enjoy it. Black Crow On A Tombstone is one HELL of a music video from one incredible Black Metal Band that is Satyricon.

Stone.
