Halestorm Cover of “Bad Romance” Spoils The Hard Rock Party

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 20, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Halestorm – I’ve always dug Halestorm and will continue to do so. However, when you cover a Lady Gaga song such as Bad Romance and slap it on your new EP (ReAniMate: The CoVeRs) not everyone is gonna be psyched-out about it. The first time I heard this ultralousy song “covered” by Halestorm, I thought it was a cruel joke or at least a mistake. Why on Earth would Halestorm want to cover this crap song? Is the band “friends” with Lady Gaga? Is Lady GaGa influential to someone in Halestorm? (Ouch). Even so, there is NO rhyme or Metal reason to cover it… unless your looking for a grammar school battalion of fans.

If Halestorm wants to be “cool” within the Hard Rock circles, they shouldn’t even be associating themselves with such a poser song. I would give Halestorm a Metal pass if this song was done as a joke. Children of Bodom covered a crap Pop song called Oops!… I Did It Again (the crap song that made Britney Spears millions) for their Skeletons in the Closet covers album and openly stated it was not to be taken seriously. That is not the case here. Halestorm should step back, take a deep breath, then realize: they are NOT immune to being called out for SELLING OUT on covering a bubble gum Pop song such as this. This is Halestorm obviously cashing in on the current commercial fame of Lady Gaga. I don’t know which version of Bad Romance is worse… it’s a pick ’em.

By no means do I ignore that Lzzy Hale displays her patented powerful vocals on this covers EP. With the likes of Guns ‘n Roses (Out ta Get Me), Temple of the Dog’s (Hunger Strike) and Skid Row’s (Slave To The Grind) being hammered out with undeniably relevant heaviness from the band, this EP does become rescued. The Classic Rock gem from Heart (All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You) lacks the original vibe and feel that Ann and Nancy Wilson can only bring. (I Want You (She’s So Heavy)) is a Beatles song that really doesn’t need to be reinvented or covered at all… some songs are still sacred, you know?

I am not going to cow-tow to anyone and say nice things about a song that is justifiably out of place on this EP as Bad Romance is. Overall I recommend this new EP offering of cover songs from Halestorm to loyal fans… just don’t say I never warned you about the one bad apple song in the bunch.

That’s it. So, as you have read above, Stone is not always going to listen to an album, then hand out smiley faces and tell everybody it’s a sunshine day. Metal be thy name.

SPEED\KILL/HATE guitarist Dave Linsk [who also plays with the legendary OVERKILL] will be chatting live on the air with MetalheadRadio.com’s DJ Rob tomorrow [May 20th] at 6:30PST.

Head over to METALHEADRADIO.COM tomorrow during DJ Rob’s Metal Asylum show to hear the thrash titan give the scoop on the new SPEED\KILL/HATE album, Out For Blood.

“Speed/Kill/Hate is a fine example of what NY thrash can be today. There’s the gritty, street-wise feel to it. Not too polished. Not too complacent. And with the right amount of edge to make it interesting. Out For Blood is just that. It wants your hard earned blood and sweat and it takes no prisoner in getting it.” – Battle Helm

“The band doesn’t sound as if they’ve missed a beat here on Out For Blood, so locked-in and turned-on is the aggro ‘n blitzkrieg level. – Metal Army America [Rating: B]

“One of this year’s most amazing, brutalizing and spine snapping Thrash Metal albums.”Metal Odyssey

“An admirable thrash metal record that manages to sound vital and modern in the current metal scene, without ever betraying the most defining and essential traits of the style.”  – Scratch the Surface Webzine

SEETHER – “Here And Now” Is Truly An Emotional And Stunning Song

Posted in alternative metal, alternative rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 19, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

SEETHER – Before I bought the new Seether album I was already quite psyched-out by their top selling single Country Song. (It has peaked to #2 on the Billboard Rock Songs Chart). I could not hold back my heightened liking for Country Song, so I purchased it on iTunes a couple of weeks before Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray was released on May 17th. Yes, I was anticipating a new album from Seether that hopefully has the potential to blow me away. It has… and one particular song has blown me away ten-fold. That song is Here and Now.

It is not often that a song can touch me on such a personal level. When those moments do occur and a song speaks to me the way Here and Now does, it is simply put: mesmerizing. The lyrics of Here and Now coupled with the melodies, mood and emotional vocals of Shaun Morgan have frozen me in my tracks. This incredible song brought me to tears the first time I listened to it. Those tears were a long time coming. Whenever a song can move me this way, it becomes special to my Metal soul. I guess there isn’t much more I can say than that.

Thank you Shaun Morgan for writing the lyrics to Here and Now. Thank you Seether for the music.

VASTUM – 2011 Tour Dates For Bay Area & Pacific Northwest

Posted in concerts, Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 16, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

VASTUM are on the warpath! The Bay Area horde are being praised by old-school death metal fans throughout the underground media in response to their brutalizing debut full-length, Carnal Law, set for release via 20 Buck Spin on May 31.

Continuing to brutalize live audiences with their stripped-down and ultra-pulverizing tonal supremacy, VASTUM have confirmed more live actions throughout the Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest over the coming weeks, with more tour plans in the works to be announced shortly.

VASTUM Confirmed Rampages:

5/18/2011 Elbo Room – San Francisco, CA w/ Inquisition, Necrite

7/01/2011 The Know – Portland, OR w/ Atriarch, Murderess

7/02/2011 Black Lodge – Seattle, WA w/ Ritual Necromancy, Anhedonist, Countdown to Armageddon

7/03/2011 Saratoga – Portland, OR w/ Knelt Rote, Negative Queen

VASTUM‘s thunderous, stripped-down attack produces some of the most wretched, dehumanizing, old-school Death Metal one can find on Carnal Law. Unifying musicians with current or past ties to Saros, Amber Asylum, Hammers of Misfortune, Infest and containing 3/4 of Acephalix’ lineup, conceptually, the band’s lyrical content explores dark themes of sexuality and psychic disfiguration in a more cerebral context, as one may find in the work of Georges Bataille or psychoanalyst Jean Laplanche. Frustration, pain, pleasure, confusion, depravity, death, life and isolation; the lines are blurred.

Ronnie James Dio and Yngwie Malmsteen: This Iconic Duo’s Cover Song Of “Dream On” Is A True Hidden Gem!

Posted in classic rock, classic rock music, guitarists, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock and roll, rock guitarists, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 16, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Ronnie James Dio & Yngwie Malmsteen  – On May 16th, 2010, the ultra-legendary Ronnie James Dio passed away after a valiant battle with cancer. This was a day when Metal cried. Hard Rock cried. Rock and Roll cried. I cried. I’ve always lived by a wonderful thought: “Time heals all wounds”. Each time I listen to any DIO, Rainbow, ElfBlack Sabbath and Heaven & Hell song and/or album now, I realize that Ronnie James Dio’s legacy will forever live on.

On the anniversary of Ronnie James Dio passing away, I decided to listen to some of his work that I haven’t pulled out in quite awhile. I remembered having a CD titled: Guitar Gods – The Classic Rock Anthems. On this fantastic CD is a cover song of Aerosmith’s Dream On. Ronnie James Dio sings and Yngwie Malmsteen plays his amazing guitar on this cover song of Dream On. Two legends covering an iconic Rock song, written and recorded by fellow legends. Simply put… the original version and cover version of Dream On are both everlasting.

I can’t even adequately put into words, just how sensational, how riveting this cover song of Dream On is to my senses. Ronnie James Dio sings the lyrics of Dream On in such a remarkable way… it’s Ronnie James Dio. With Yngwie Malmsteen stamping his signature tone to this song, it’s hands down the single greatest cover song I have ever heard of Dream OnMetal case closed. To admit I receive countless ostrich bumps up and down my entire body whenever I listen to this cover of Dream On is real and not fantasy.

This entire CD is a MUST buy for any fan of Rock, Classic Rock, Hard Rock and/or Metal. If there ever was that hidden gem of a Ronnie James Dio song, then this cover of Dream On is it. If there ever was that hidden gem of a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal compilation CD, then Guitar Gods – The Classic Rock Anthems is it. Wanna know something? I found this CD at Kmart about two years ago. Kmart. Metal be thy name and kiss the F’n sky. That is no lie.

Legends are galore on this CD, with Ted Nugent giving his spin on another Aerosmith classic: Rag Doll. The Motor City Madman sings and plays his patented guitar licks on Rag Doll and it’s a hell raiser. Just look at the track listing with the respective artists below, it’s ’nuff said and ring the Metal bell for glory! This CD is so electrified with guitar legends and vocalists that it’s Metal mind boggling.

I’ll say this much: Slash and Roger Daltrey cover Alice Cooper’s Rock classic No More Mr. Nice Guy with Hard Rockin’ brilliance. Whoa, the legenday duo of Slash and Roger Daltrey make an infinite impression on my Metal soul. Steve Lukather covers Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond… it’s jaw dropping. I truly don’t know what else to say about that. An unreal CD that I have revisited and won’t be putting away again for a very, very, long time.

* Guitar Gods – The Classic Rock Anthems was released back in 2006, via Fantastic Price Records.

* Guitar Gods – The Classic Rock Anthems was mastered by Anthony Focx at Foxhole Underground Studio, Los Angeles.

* I’ve seen this CD for sale at Amazon.com for just under $10 (U.S. funds).

* For some odd reason, I can’t play this CD in my car’s CD player. Every time I slide this CD into the car’s player, it gets sent back out! WTF? However, this CD plays just fine on my home stereo system.

Track Listing:

Slash & Roger Daltrey – No More Mr. Nice Guy

Ted Nugent – Rag Doll

Jimmy Page – Burn Up

Jake E. Lee & Phil Lewis – Journey To The Center Of The Mind

Steve Lukather – Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Rick Derringer – Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo

Santana – Jingo

Pat Travers – Snortin’ Whiskey, Drinkin’ Cocaine

Michael Schenker & Leslie West – Blood Of The Sun

George Lynch – He’s A Woman, She’s A Man

TRILLION RED – A Metal Odyssey Interview

Posted in ambient music, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, progressive metal, progressive rock, rock music, rock music interviews, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 15, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

TRILLION RED – It’s no secret that undergound music exists from the sprawling country sides of a Middle America to the back alleys, basements and lofts of rural cities worldwide. Underground Metal exists, has existed and shall never go extinct. Trillion Red is yet another example, as to why the underground scene is a music force that can never be underestimated. Trillion Red is a two-man band of (multi-instrumentalist & vocalist) Patrick Brown and Max Woodside on drums, evolving from San Francisco, California.

I have already labeled Trillion Red a Metal band, one that focuses on the ambient, progressive and extreme sides. The layers of instrumentation, diverse vocals and excellent musicianship has made me an admirer of the sound that Trillion Red has captured. The dark imagery that Trillion Red has me visualizing in my minds eye from their debut Two Tongues EP comes as an embraced bonus. Trillion Red is onto something and I’m on board for the ride.

Recently, Patrick and Max took the time to answer some questions that hopefully give their new fans an inside look into their music styles, tastes and influences. There is a complex process involved when a recording is being created, Patrick and Max touch on their thoughts and experiences of recording the Two Tongues EP as well. Here is what Patrick and Max had to say:

Stone: What’s the story behind the band being named “Trillion Red”?

Patrick: The usual. We go back and forth on what we like and dislike. There were a lot of disagreements and eventual realizations, that the last name we thought of was totally ridiculous or not as cool as we thought. This is one we just fell upon without any particular meaning or ideology and just instantly liked. It has a nice ring to it, sounds cool, isn’t affiliated with any particular genre, not cliché and symbolizes a mass scope of life, power, blood, and yes, death. To me it is more a visual existential feeling than an actual idea.

Max: Powerful name Trillion Red.  Vast numbers of intense Red. Besides, I felt close to all the great bands with color in their names. Evergrey, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Shocking Blue, Frigid Pink, Cream, Savoy Brown, Deep Purple, Black Flag, Blue Oyster Cult, Yellowjackets, Maroon 5, Moody Blues, Whitesnake, etc..

Stone: If the opportunity ever came to pass, would you be interested in
creating a Horror movie soundtrack?

Patrick: Is our music that creepy? I never realized or even thought of our music as “dark” until I received feedback from listeners. The devil has got me all goosed up I suppose. But, to answer your question, yes, that would be a lot of fun.

Stone: What band or who is the musician you would say has had the most
influence on your music?

Patrick: Hmm….tough one.  I can be rather capricious with these kinds of questions. I tend to immensely like a certain genre or a few bands at one time, and after a while, my mood changes and I move on to something else.  So, depending on when you ask me, it would be a different musician. If had to pick a few musicians that have always been somewhere in my mind, it may be Allen Epley of Shiner and now, The Life and Times. He is a brilliant songwriter, guitarist and vocalist.  And Johan Edlund (vocalist/guitarist) of Tiamat (the old stuff mostly!)

Max: King Crimson, Rush, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Andromeda, Dark Moor, Chuck Brown, Terry Bozzio, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Bill Bruford, Tommy Bolin, ELP, Yngwie Malmsteen. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Vandenplas, Therion, Nightwish, Chick Corea, Al De Meola, Billy Cobham, Jean-luc Ponty and Patrick Ohearn.

Stone: How did you decide on the style of Metal that you would create and
record?

Patrick: When writing the Two Tongues material (and new stuff coming), I didn’t even consciously consider it was “Metal”, so to speak. What you hear on this EP and will hear in the future are simply songs that I would want to hear myself. I never stopped to think, “geez, what kind of Metal do I want to sound like?”. It just never occurred to me.  This style of Metal I suppose is a conglomeration of everything I like and enjoy I suppose.  If it sounds like hip-hop (which it never ever will), then so be it.

Stone: Do you agree that music truly is a universal language?

Patrick:  Yeah. I’ve lived in China and Japan for many years, and have always found commonalties and camaraderie with others into the same music that don’t speak English. Although, to be fair, I do speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and some Japanese. Good times those were…

Max: The most universal language perhaps but certainly not the most objective art.

Stone: Somewhere, someone is listening to Trillion Red right now. Does this
thought put what you create as a musician into perspective?

Patrick:  I don’t think so.  When I write, it is a selfish act and process, it’s a place where there are no concern of others. It is a pleasant thought that somebody is listening to (and hopefully enjoying) my passion, but it doesn’t change anything other than me feeling more rewarded for my efforts, i.e., a happier guy.

Max: Cool thought. But only a thought. It’s nice that someone should listen to our music because the music is very good.  But, if nobody listened, we would still have fun making it.

Stone: What trials and how much fun was involved in writing and recording
your debut “two tongues ep”?

Patrick: The writing was a lot of fun. It always is. Max and I are not recording engineers or mixologists, and had no prior experience recording this EP.  So we had a steep learning curve with respect to creating a good sound and production (but it all turned out sounding excellent). So one can imagine there was a lot of wondering and worrying. I did all the sound engineering, recording and initially mixed the entire EP myself. I had a hard time getting the right sounding mix with all the instruments and layering.  I kept beating my head to the wall trying to get everything well represented in the mix. Eventually I came to realize that I didn’t carve out frequencies very well, and subsequently, the drums and vocals were buried. At that point, I renounced my mixing moniker and had a professional do it for us, under my direction though.  I had a blast during production though! That was my highlight. I really think the next go-around will be very enjoyable, because we know our true strengths and limits.

Max:  Profound fun with Patrick!  He lets me be creative and experiment. I think I understand the way he thinks now and he indeed has a great vision. Pat let’s me contribute, without being a petty tyrant as other bandleaders I’ve known were.

Stone: Will there be a full-length eventually from Trillion Red? Are you
approaching the writing and recording process any differently compared to
the first time around?

Patrick: Yes, we have 8 new songs we are preparing for a full-length album. Various parts of these new songs were written prior to and during the construction of the Two Tongue’s EP. We have put beats to 5 of them, and as soon as we do so with the last 3, we will start recording. I suspect we will release an album in very early 2012.

The writing on this record will have more ambient (or isn’t psychedelic the new cool trendy term to use?) breathing room.  Yet, it will still maintain a very dark and heavy pounding mood. Writing for me is very much like writing a story; there is a beginning, middle, and end.  I love songs that emotionally pull you up, take you down, or drag you across a droning path, only to pull you up, down, side ways and bleed the mind. That is what I am trying to do with this album, all of the above.

We will indeed be recording differently. There will be a lot more attention paid to sound engineering (like microphone placement on the drums) and engineering a much better bass guitar sound.  I will also be doing some different recording techniques on the guitar and unifying my vocal style a bit. We’ll see how it turns out!

Stone: Have any record labels shown interest in Trillion Red thus far? I feel
there should be strong interest from labels in what you have created with
the “two tongues ep”.

Patrick: None so far.  I just started sending our EP to labels. I originally wanted to be independent. Since we currently aren’t playing live, I didn’t see what a label really could do for us. But after learning a bit more about the way things work in the world of underground Metal and the strain promotion takes on “time” in my life, it made more since to have a label as a supporter. Therefore, we have just recently shifted gears towards finding a lablel.

10 – If you could seek out one “well known” guest musician for your next
album, who would that be and why?

Patrick: Possibly Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver.  The guy is an amazing vocalist. Truly inspiring and very original! His unique take on vocal presentation and a pull away from traditional choruses and melodies would run beautifully with some of my material I think.

Stone: As a multi-instrumentalist, how important is it to focus on song
structure and balance?

Patrick: Song Structure and balance is extremely important. A song doesn’t necessarily require original riffs, melodies or hooks, it is how it is presented, structured, and layered, that will ultimately make or break it.  One of my biggest pet peeves with Metal bands (or most bands) is that they don’t know when to shut up, there is so much riffing/vocal masturbation, that bands lose sight of what it means to simply put a good well-rounded song together. Many just concentrate on perceived cool ideas (mostly redundant) and try to glue shit on shit with unnecessary bridges and breaks. I would suspect producers have a lot to blame for this phenomenon too. Originality is great, but if you can’t put the pieces together correctly, it loses its appeal very quickly.

Slayer’s Reign in Blood is an exemplar of structure and balance.  The freaking album is what, something like 30 minutes? Each song is tight, powerful and doesn’t linger one bit. It has zero filler! Its’ balance and structure is perfect. I strive for that kind of bluntness. However, as I like to structure songs as emotional stories that walk you to the side, up, down, and more to the side, I can’t afford to be as cut and dry. I also totally love style structures like Burzum’s Filosofem, an ambient antithesis of Reign in Blood being long, winded, spacey, rich… a beautiful record!  I guess you could say I am now trying to structure and balance my songs like Reign in Blood and Filosofem – to the point, not too much fluff, but some good fluff for sure, and then get on with it!

Stone: Where can fans buy your music?

Patrick: You can buy the Two Tongues CD on our website: www.trillionred.com . It is $5, including postage in the USA. Buyers outside the US will be quoted pending country/location. MP3s can be purchased via Amazon, iTunes, and a lot of other places too.

We are planning on doing some t-shirts and possibly releasing Two Tongues on 10” vinyl soon. It all depends on how the label thing shakes out. Thanks for the interview. Good questions.

Stone: Thank you Patrick and Max!

SKINLESS – Following a special, ritualistically brutal, one-off performance last June that brought the classic SKINLESS lineup to the stage once again, the legendary death metal battalion will play their last show at this year’s edition of the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore. Vocalist Sherwood Webber, drummer Bob Beaulac, guitarist Noah Carpenter and bassist Joe Keyser are prepared to scathe listeners with tunes off Progression Towards Evil and Foreshadowing Our Demise for one last time.

Commented Webber of the final performance: “This is Death Metal, so things can’t live forever, and here… we have an end! I’m stoked the guys at the Deathfest thought of us to do the show. It makes sense and we’re all down to do it. I know Noah announced the band’s demise a couple weeks ago, so it will be like seeing a ghost, then going to see Ghost ha!

“You can expect to see the sickest SKINLESS show ever,” he promises. “Last year’s reunion show was killer. It was everything a SKINLESS show should be about the finality of the MDF performance will definitely make it…….FINAL! THE FINAL NAIL!  Everyone in the band are still great friends. I live in Denver and we all have a lot going on in our lives now. We did way more than I ever expected. It was a lot of drive that made it happen; hard fucking work! I’d like to personally thank everyone that got behind us: Relapse, Ted Etoll and Step Up Presents, and most importantly the Metal fans all over the world! I’m over-the-top stoked for the show. If you can’t be there, there is always the miracle of YouTube. You never know what the musical future holds for all of us…keep a look out! Everyone take care, and always…STAY BRUTAL!”

SKINLESS will play on Sunday, May 29th in the main room at 6:45pm.

SHAKRA – Back On Track: Swiss Hard Rock Band Is Blazing Forward!

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , on May 13, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

SHAKRA – Watch out… before you dive your eardrums into this new Shakra studio album Back On Track, bear in mind this veteran band is aiming to kick your Hard Rockin’ and Heavy Metalin’ ass! I just cannot resist warning you all. When an album of 13 songs ROCKS this HARD, HEAVY and MEMORABLE, by God I am gonna raise some noize about it. Released on May 3rd, 2011 via AFM Records, Back On Track has Shakra on track for worldwide Hard Rock domination. Glory be to Metal, this album is a non-stopper… I just can’t hit the stop button when it is playing. I could have easily taken the easy road, by just giving this album a three word review like this: buy this album. Alas, I have to rant and rave about Back On Track.

Based in Switzerland, Shakra is following up on their last album Everest, which soared to #4 on the Swiss album charts back in 2009. I honestly see Shakra making gigantic strides in the States, with enough promotion and (hopefully) consistent radio play, be it FM or satellite. Shakra is tailor made for the Hard & Heavy Rock that makes 80’s old schoolers proud and play with enough relevance for todays younger generation to dig… big time. In a Metal nutshell, Shakra caught my undivided Hard Rockin’ attention from the opener B True B You to the unbelievable closer: Stonger Than Ever. This last song puts the thunder stamp on this album where I’m left muttering… holy crap that was one hell of a goooood listen!

Shakra now has a new lead singer with John Prakesh, (replacing Mark Fox) and he is damn good. Damn good. There are moments where I hear some Marc Storace (influence?) in John’s vocals, only don’t think for one second that John Prakesh isn’t an original. His vocals are a reminder to me, that a band can be elevated by it’s front man. This guy sings the Rockin’ daylights out of this album, Metal be thy name and hallelujah to all. Shakra plays as a cohesive unit, with their energy and Heavy Rock spirit coming through LOUD and very clear on Back On Track. Blazing is the most adequate adjective to describe the sound and total vibe I receive from Shakra, these guys are running on all Hard & Heavy Rock cylinders with Back On Track.

Revved up guitar leads and Hard Rockin’ riffs? Check. Hooks? Check. Melodic and memorable songs? Check. Pumped up chorus? Check. Thumpin’ rhythm section? Check. Psyche-you-out sonic thrills by the minute? Um… check again. Look, I would never praise an album that is the equivalent of bird crap on a windshield. Shakra has created an album that is the equivalent of a Hard & Heavy Rock celebration. This celebration called Back On Track MUST be shared to all fellow Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fans alike. Shakra for all intents and purposes, have smacked it down and let it loose with Back On TrackSpread the Hard Rock word: SHAKRA.

* Recorded and produced with Shakra’s own guitarist Thom Blunier, at Power Ride Studios.

* Back On Track entered the official Swiss Album Charts at #2, the highest charting SHAKRA album ever. Back On Track entered the German Album Charts at #84.

* Back On Track is the eighth studio album from SHAKRA.

UNEARTH – Darkness In The Light: Album Art and Track Listing Revealed! New Song Stream Available!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, metal odyssey, metalcore, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 11, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

UNEARTH – Pit-churning, Melodic Metal pioneers, UNEARTH, are currently readying to unveil Darkness In The Light, their fifth full-length in a discography that’s placed the band among the most prolific and plainly ravaging modern metal acts to come out of the U.S. Set for North American release on July 5 via Metal Blade Records, the 11-track long player — their most conceptually personal offering to date — was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

Commented UNEARTH vocalist Trevor Phipps of the band’s latest output: “Darkness In The Light is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we’ve ever written. The disc is littered with the shred ‘n’ stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the Heavy Metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn’t be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old.”

Darkness In The Light Track Listing:

01. Watch It Burn

02. Ruination Of The Lost

03. Shadows In The Light

04. Eyes Of Black

05. Last Wish

06. Arise The War Cry

07. Equinox

08. Coming Of The Dark

09. The Fallen

10. Overcome

11. Disillusion

UNEARTH:

Trevor Phipps – Vocals

Buz McGrath – Guitar

Ken Susi – Guitar

John “Slo” Maggard – Bass

Justin Foley – Studio Drummer

The first single, the instantly pummeling “Eyes Of Black,” is currently streaming on the band’s official album landing page, which includes updated tour info, pre-order options and more. Said Phipps of the track: “We chose ‘Eyes Of Black’ to be the first song heard out of the gate as we feel it represents the ‘UNEARTH sound’ and style perfectly and it’s simply a hard-hitting, catchy-as-hell song. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I’m not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can’t wait to get out there and play it live!” To check out the tune, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

Several pre-order deals for Darkness In The Light are available. Packages include:

CD: $9.99

CD + T-Shirt: $19.99
