EXHALE – Signs With Pulverised Records; New Album Releasing In 2013

Posted in Death Metal, grindcore, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on December 30, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Pulverised Records - Large Logo!! B&W!Exhale - large logo - B&W

Pulverised Records has announced the official signing of Swedish Grind-guerrillas EXHALE!

With the group formed in 2004, EXHALE have already proven themselves to be a devastating force since their inception, bombarding the Grindcore community with two full-length albums Prototype in 2006 and Blind in 2010. Two years later into the band’s last effort, EXHALE sharpened their Grind-weapons and returns even more powerful than before!

With a brand new full-length entitled When Worlds Collide, this album sees EXHALE taking on a much more dynamic approach while still maintaining an extremely strict diet of sick and demented modern Grind-sanity.

When Worlds Collide will be scheduled for a 2013 release, with more announcements and further album details to be unleashed soon.

In an official press statement, the band stated: “We’re really proud to announce that we have inked a deal with Pulverised Records. The label has released some really good albums during the years (Bombs Of Hades, Desultory, Morbus Chron just to name a few), so it feels great to be among them. When Worlds Collide contains 14 tracks of Grinding Death Metal. You will recognize the sound of EXHALE but there are also a few surprises for you! Can’t wait to release this monster! See you on the road in 2013!”

Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin further commented: “Throughout the years of our search for the signing the ‘right’ bands, there were of course many bands that we felt were a great addition to our roster. Then came along EXHALE’s four-song promo by way of email one day, and those four tracks became an instant hit with us! There are some real serious chops and unbelievably stalwart songwriting amongst all that chaos; it is almost unreal. We are extremely proud to have EXHALE join the Pulverised family, and we cannot wait to present When Worlds Collide on a worldwide domination crusade. Onward to Grind-gotha we shall!”

EXHALE recently filmed a music video for Wrath Unleashed, the opening track from When Worlds Collide. The music video was filmed and directed by acclaimed Swedish videographer Daniel Falk from http://www.framednoise.com. Check out the music video for Wrath Unleashed below!

Avantasia - Promo Banner Pic - #1 - 2012!

Finally! On http://www.tobiassammet.com you find the first audio samples, plus a view into the recording studios of AVANTASIA’s upcoming record The Mystery Of Time, which will be out in March 2013.

Tobi comments the 2-minute trailer with even more informations:

“Hey friends, as you know I am currently working on a new Avantasia album. It’s a lot of work, but I am so proud of what we are creating right now – it’s amazing stuff. As my little Christmas gift to, and to make Christmas even a little more exciting for you, I’ll reveal some secrets today: Of course, Michael Kiske is on board again! I bet you expected this, you can hear him loud and clear, and he is still the number one vocalist in that range – unbelievable! But, what is really new: For the first time in the history of Avantasia, we’re working with a real symphonic orchestra: The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg! You may remember it, they have worked with Rammstein, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, and also with Edguy on the Hellfire Club album. It’s an enchanting fairytale we are working on, so we really have no choice but to finally have a real orchestra; after all it’s an epic Rock or probably Metal Opera! If you click on the clip below, you can check out the orchestra recordings and also, you’ll hear a little sample, a rough mix of what’s to come in March 2013: THE MYSTERY OF TIME! Enjoy and Merry Christmas! – Tobi”

Metal Odyssey – Scott Coverdale Picks His Top Ten Metal Albums Of 2012!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, Power Metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on December 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Unisonic - Logo!!

Another year has come and gone. Man, am I getting old. I, Scott Coverdale, am pleased to reveal my much-anticipated Top 10 Metal Albums of 2012.  As always, it’s a grueling process and I’m glad it’s over. I think I switched my top 5 about 15 times! Now for my picks…

Unisonic - cover promo pic!!

#1

UNISONIC – S/T

This album caught me by complete surprise. I happened to be sampling music on the internet a couple of months ago and I came across this debut album from Unisonic. I was hooked from the very first song! Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen, together in the same band. Whoa, I need not say any more. This entire album rocks.

MILLION DOLLAR RELOAD - A Sinner's Saint - promo cover pic!!

#2

MILLION $ RELOAD – A SINNER’S SAINT

I never heard of Million $ Reload, until Stone hooked me up with this CD of theirs earlier this past Summer. A Sinner’s Saint was one of my most listened to CDs of the year. An album that’s solid from beginning to end.

Iron Maiden - En Vivo! - Large Promo Cover Pic!!

#3

IRON MAIDEN – EN VIVO

I became an Iron Maiden junky this past year. There is very little in the music world that can be better than Iron Maiden live in person or recorded. Live versions of Blood Brothers and When The Wild Wind Blows back to back is worth the purchase alone.

Jackyl - Best In Show - Large Promo Cover Pic!

#4

JACKYL – BEST IN SHOW

Over the past 20 years I never really became a fan of Jackyl, however, I am a big fan of this album! Jackyl really put out a kick ass “Fun Rockin” album this past year!!

Slash - Apocalyptic Love - promo cover pic!

#5

SLASH – FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS

APOCALYPTIC LOVE

I definitely think this is the best work to date from Slash. I had a chance to see Slash and Myles Kennedy in Beirut this past Summer; only I didn’t go. Instead I went to the Casino Du Liban. I should have rethought that decision; I ended up getting yelled at by a couple of Arabs (They were bad blackjack players) and losing 300,000 Lebanese pounds; which is the equivalent of $200 (U.S.).

Wig Wam - .Wall Street - promo cover pic!png

#6

WIG WAM – WALL STREET

A really good album from a band I wasn’t familiar with until (again) Stone turned me onto them.

T&N - Slave To The Empire - promo cover pic!

#7

T&N – SLAVE TO THE EMPIRE

Basically a Dokken Album without Don. I really like the heavier redo’s of the (some) classic Dokken tunes. In addition, the original tunes on this CD are excellent also.

Eclipse - Bleed & Scream - promo cover pic!

#8

ECLIPSE – BLEED & SCREAM

I really like this band! Eclipse have become one of my favorite AOR bands! They’ve put out another quality album this past year.

Trixter - New Audio Machine - Large promo album cover!

#9

TRIXTER – NEW AUDIO MACHINE

20 years ago I might have been a little shy to admit that I liked Trixter; only it’s not 20 years ago!  This CD is really, really good.

Accept-Stalingrad - cover promo

#10

ACCEPT – STALINGRAD

Stalingrad is an excellent follow-up to Blood Of The Nations. Is Stalingrad as good as Blood Of The Nations? No! Yet it truly is a kick ass album. I’m hoping Accept can keep it up. By the way, if you have a chance to listen to Herman Frank’s latest solo album Right in the Guts, it too is really good; however, I am only doing a top 10 here.

_________________________________________

I ENJOYED SHARING MY TOP 10 WITH EVERYONE AND I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED READING IT. I WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS 2013. LET’S KEEP THE METAL FAITH.  THANK YOU MY METAL BUDDY STONE!!!

Dream Theater - Large Band Logo - White!

As reported on Roadrunner Records by Phil Freeman, back on December 3rd, 2012:

Grammy-nominated band Dream Theater, one of rock’s most musically fearless and adventurous bands, has re-signed with Roadrunner Records. The group first signed with Roadrunner in January 2007 and has so far released three critically acclaimed albums with the label. The label first issued Dream Theater’s ninth studio album, Systematic Chaos,in 2007 and went on to release Black Clouds & Silver Linings in 2009, as well as their most recent album, A Dramatic Turn of Events in September 2011. The band will soon begin recording a new album as part of the new agreement with Roadrunner Records.

In 2012, the band received their first-ever Grammy nomination for “On The Backs Of Angels” in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category. The song was the first single from their 11th studio album, A Dramatic Turn of Events, which had 14 Top 10 debuts around the world, including the U.S., where it entered at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings also charted strongly, debuting at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, the highest-charting record of the band’s career.

They have also won several awards while at Roadrunner Records including Rollingstone.com’s readers’ poll for “Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time” (2012), several awards from the leading Japanese rock magazine BURRN! (2012) and the”Spirit of Prog” achievement award at the 2009 Classic Rock Awards. Overall, the legendary progressive metal masters have sold in excess of 10 million records and DVDs worldwide.A powerhouse live act, they’ve headlined and sold out shows all over the globe.

Dream Theater - Group Publicity Pic - 2011 - #1

The band commented, “We are all very excited to be re-signing with Roadrunner Records! Over the past 5 years from the release of Systematic Chaos to our latest A Dramatic Turn of Events, we’ve developed strong creative and professional bonds with everyone at Roadrunner as well as many great friendships along the way.”

The band adds, “Roadrunner’s dedication and commitment to Dream Theater has been evident to all of us from the very beginning, and is consistent in all departments and on all levels, right on through to the top. Roadrunner is a record label that is not only great at what they do but who truly understand what Dream Theater is all about as well as the amazing people who support us all around the world whom we proudly call our fans. They are a record company we relate to as an organization firmly rooted in its ideals and mission, while always pushing the envelope in an effort to keep things moving ever forward. We’ve reached many career defining milestones while at Roadrunner and are all incredibly pumped in anticipation of our continued future together!”

Dream Theater formed in 1985 under the name Majesty. The lineup has evolved to become John Petrucci (guitar, founding member), John Myung (bass, founding member), James LaBrie (vocals), Jordan Rudess (keyboards and continuum) and drummer Mike Mangini.

Dream Theater recently wrapped up a massive worldwide headline tour in support of A Dramatic Turn of Events and is heading back into the studio to record their next album. The next chapter in Dream Theater’s storied career begins in 2013.

UNITED FORCES – Members Of Iconic NYHC/Thrash Outfit Begin New Chapter

Posted in hardcore, hardcore metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on December 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

METAL NEWS!

_________________________________________________

Subsequent to the demise of reunited NYC Hardcore/Speed Metal legends Stormtroopers Of Death, two of the four members of the brutal faction have set out to forge a new path of punishment in 2013.

UNITED FORCES unites S.O.D.’s bassist Danny Lilker (Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Nunfuckritual, Lock-Up,ex-Anthrax) and notorious frontman Billy Milano (Method Of Destruction), the longtime cohorts taking their mayhem to new turf. Milano and Lilker recruited two additional henchmen to help carry out their forthcoming disorder, with the thunderous Nick Barker (Lock-Up, Ancient, ex-Cradle of Filth, ex-Dimmu Borgir) on percussive duties, and Anton Reisenegger (Criminal, Pentagram Chile, Extreme Noise Terror, Lock Up) handling guitars. With Lilker located in upstate New York, Milano in central Texas, Barker in England and Reisenegger in Spain, details on the outfit’s plans concerning touring or recording remain unknown, but UNITED FORCES is, without question, a pending force with which to be dealt.

Notes vocalist Billy Milano on the eclectic union of metal soldiers: “I’m not out to reinvent myself at my age. I just want to have a lot of fun with this. We called it UNITED FORCES because we’re located all over the place, in different countries, but this is something we’re going to come together for.” Added four-string assaulter Danny Lilker: “It’s gonna be really fun to get together with some good friends — who are also great musicians — and play some earsplitting, hardcore-tinged thrash metal! And obviously, we know how to do just that.”

At this year’s installment of the Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin, Texas, modern thrash heavyweights Municipal Waste were joined by Lilker and Milano onstage to help unleash the S.O.D. staple “United Forces.”  Check out the carnage HERE.

Future UNITED FORCES plans will be revealed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned

Metal Odyssey – Stone Picks His Top 10 Hard Rock Albums Of 2012!

Metal Odyssey – Stone Picks His Top 10 Hard Rock Albums Of 2012!

After I banged my METAL brains to a pulp in compiling a Top 30 Metal Albums Of 2012 list, I decided to keep the Hard Rock side of the street to a cool and tidy Top 10 Of 2012. Okay, there’s really 11 Top Hard Rock Albums Of 2012; cause there’s a tie. Couldn’t help it. My favorite METAL troll who lives deep in the Pennsylvania woods told me a couple of days ago: “No one ever said it would be easy, Stone”.

Below you will find the 10 Hard Rock Albums (all released in 2012) that I turned to most often to get psyched-out of my Hard Rockin’ mind. I truly thought this list over long and hard, while making certain the overall quality of the albums stand tall on their own respective musical merits.

In my heart, KISS will always be #1; only SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators found their way to my Rockin’ soul in 2012. That counts big time. The ultra-fabulous return of Van Halen, Trixter and Soundgarden are just 3 stories among many Hard Rock comebacks during 2012. What sensational comeback albums these 3 bands created and they’re included in my Top 10! Spider Rockets appear in my Top Ten for good reason; their Hard Rockin’ bite is infectious!

Switzerland’s The Order and N. Ireland’s Million Dollar Reload are 2 bands that released unbelievable albums this past year! Both of these bands took me by incredible Hard Rockin’ surprise! The word elite comes to my mind, whenever I listen to the new albums from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Country Communion. As for Georgia’s very own Jackyl… their new album Best Of Show is a combination of Hard Rockin’ fun and whoop-ass that I am so very thankful for.

Thank you for supporting Hard Rock and any/all bands seen or heard on Metal Odyssey this past year. I greatly appreciate your every visit and loyalty. I also want to thank each band listed below for existing. Metal be thy name.

You’ll find a link for my album review (or feature) below each respective title.

Soundgarden - King Animal - promo cover pick!

#4

SOUNDGARDENKING ANIMAL

More than just a “new” or “comeback” Soundgarden album. This is an accomplishment from Soundgarden, with lyrical brilliance and songs that are executed with unique and memorable musicianship and vocals. I can easily place King Animal atop the back catalog of Soundgarden albums and preach to the world that this band has returned in (what feels like to me) mystical fashion.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Last Of A Dyin' Breed - cover promo pic!

#3

LYNYRD SKYNYRD – LAST OF A DYIN’ BREED

An inspirational album both lyrically and musically. By the way, LYNYRD SKYNYRD is still kicking Southern Hard Rockin’ ass in 2012! Each LYNYRD SKYNYRD lineup is legendary, Last Of A Dyin’ Breed is proof once again.

Black Country Communion - Afterglow - promo pic!

#2

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION – AFTERGLOW

AFTERGLOW is easily one of the best Hard Rock albums I’ve heard in many years. As a supergroup, Black Country Communion doesn’t portray a single ego in their music. All I hear is greatness.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION “AFTERGLOW” – Majestic, Classic Hard Rock Still Exists… And It’s Right Here

Slash - Apocalyptic Love - promo cover pic!

SLASH – Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators

APOCALYPTIC LOVE

As I see and hear it, once an album can move you, lifting your Rockin’ soul to new heights as Apocalyptic Love has done for me, then it’s a #1 album for certain. The combination of SLASH’s guitar and Myles Kennedy’s vocals were destined to unite. It had to be! At least that’s how I feel and hear it.

The chemistry of this entire band just seems to be right on the bullseye, overflowing from every song on this exceptional album. Maybe it’s just me. Regardless, I couldn’t be more confident and psyched-out by my choice of Apocalyptic Love being my #1 Hard Rock album of 2012. Metal be thy name!

PRIMAL FEAR ‘Unbreakable’ – The Time Is NOW To Join The METAL NATION

Angel Witch - As Above So Below - Promo Cover Pic - Large!

#1

ANGEL WITCH – AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

Kevin Heybourne (guitar, vocals & founding member) has resurrected ANGEL WITCH back to True METAL prominence. This once NWOBHM pioneering band has reminded their faithful that METAL history can repeat itself with As Above, So Below. The atmosphere and raw, classic METAL (era) vibes that are projected from this album are jaw-dropping to an old school Metalhead like myself.

As Above, So Below has put me into a retrospective METAL la-la dream world. To say that this album is perfect in so many ways is not over-stretching any truths on my METAL part. The mood that this album puts me in is difficult to explain; it’s as if I’m once again introduced to what METAL was and is supposed to sound like. I suppose that’s cause to label the affects this ANGEL WITCH album has had on me as… priceless.

METAL BE THY NAME.

ANGEL WITCH “As Above, So Below” Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

In advance of their new studio album “Death By Fire” (out: February, 1st), ENFORCER release a free download for their new track “Mesmerized By Fire” today.

On January, 18th “Mesmerized By Fire” will also be released on a limited vinyl version:

Tracklist:
A: Mesmerized By Fire
B: You Can Be (non album track)

Olof Wikstrand comments:

“Mesmerized by Fire” is more or less the title track from the “Death By Fire” album. I think within four minutes it captures pretty much everything about Enforcer: intensity and power mixed with a touch of melody and melancholy. The B-side is a cover of Nagazaki’s “You Can Be”. It is a track with mega potential from a band that unfortunately never made it in the 80s.”

KINGCROW – Atmospheric Prog Band To Release Fifth Album Via Sensory Records

Kingcrow - In crescendo - promo cover pic!

The Progressive Metal aficionados at New Jersey-based Sensory Records this week announce the pending release of the newest album from Italy’s KINGCROW, In Crescendo.

While working in a mostly Progressive Metal direction in the earlier days, KINGCROW has increasingly expanded the scope of their sound to encompass elements of Rock, nowadays rounded-out in a culmination of strong atmospheric component similar to Riverside, Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd but also bearing a heavier, metallic semblance to Opeth and Dream Theater. This is boldly present on the band’s fifth studio full-length, In Crescendo, the new album encompassing nearly an hour over eight epic movements. Produced by the band’s own Diego and Thundra Cafolla at Sound Under Pressure in Rome, the massive album was then mixed by Giampiero Ulacco and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.

Over the past two years KINGCROW has expanded the band’s fanbase through European tours in support of both Redemption and Jon Oliva, in addition to performances at ProgPower Europe and ProgPower USA. Plans for a U.S. tour are being devised for 2013 in support of In Crescendo.

Sensory Records, a division of The Laser’s Edge, will release In Crescendo in North America on February 12th. Stay tuned for further updates as the new album nears release and as KINGCROW takes to the road in the New Year.

TODAY IS THE DAY Verifies Extensive North American 2013 Spring Tour

Posted in Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on December 24, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Today Is The Day - promo group pic - logo - 2012

Prophetic extreme music trio TODAY IS THE DAY will embark on an enormous North American tour this March and April, and have unleashed the first wave of confirmed dates.

TODAY IS THE DAY’s upcoming brutal voyage will begin in the Northeast and storm south across the country on the way to SXSW for this year’s official ToneDeaf Touring showcase alongside Orange Goblin, KEN Mode, Mondo Generator and more. After the festivities in Austin the outfit will continue a clockwise path of chaos up through the Northwest and Midwest US and into Canada.

Support for TODAY IS THE DAY throughout most of the venture will be provided by Black Tusk, KEN Mode and Fight Amp. But Black Tusk will drop from the trek after a month on the road, and will be replaced by a special guest to be announced shortly. Additional American and Canadian shows and more action for this year’s SXSW and more will be confirmed soon as well. Stay tuned. In the meantime, the confirmed routing is as follows, with tickets for most of the shows going on sale tomorrow.

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2013, TODAY IS THE DAY remains one of the most unique and influential bands of the past two decades. Led by visionary frontman Steve AustinTITD’s violent but psychedelic attack has received worldwide acclaim ever since the debut album, Supernova, hit in 1993. Nine studio albums have been released on such labels as Amphetamine Reptile and Relapse, and the band’s ever-morphing lineup has included such musicians as Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form Mastodon.

TODAY IS THE DAY has toured the world with Motörhead, Helmet, The Melvins, Morbid Angel, Converge, Napalm Death, Neurosis, Eyehategod, Unsane, Coalesce, and many more. Steve Austin has also made a name as a producer, helping create seminal albums for Lamb of God, Converge, Deadguy, and more. The current lineup sees Austin flanked by drummer Curran Reynolds (Wetnurse) and bassist Ryan Jones (Wetnurse, Mutilation Rites) — as witnessed on the band’s Kurt Ballou-produced Pain Is A Warning LP, issued in 2011 via Blackmarket Activities — which received critical acclaim and took the band on massive US and European tours including performances at Maryland Deathfest, Roskilde Festival and more.

Stay tuned for continuous updates on TODAY IS THE DAY as the tour draws near.

Lee Dorman - Iron Butterfly - publicity pic - 2012 - #1

Lee Dorman, the bass guitarist for the legendary Iron Butterfly, passed away from natural causes on Friday, December 21st, in Laguna Niguel, California. Lee Dorman was 70 years old. Lee Dorman was born in 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Lee Dorman joined Iron Butterfly as they recorded their (now iconic) In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album back in 1968. In 1971, Lee Dorman and Iron Butterfly guitarist Larry Reinhardt founded the Metal-Jazz Fusion band Captain Beyond, along with Rod Evans of Deep Purple fame.

A tried and true pioneer of heavy music, Lee Dorman helped pave the way for the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal genres that we all cherish here at Metal Odyssey.

Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family, friends, bandmates and fans of Lee Dorman. May Lee Dorman rest in peace.
